What's the cheapest graphicscard that would most likely work with a kakewalk installation?

Think I have a defect GTX285(got it from a friend that didn't know if it worked), and just want to try another card to rule that out.

Would a 4350 work?

gt9500 is probably the budget card that works fine

First thank you so much for all the people helping us people like me that dont know alot about this kind of a thing.

Second, I have a computer with GUID partition get through the install and boot up with the welcome screen and the sound but then when I dont use the boot cd at the end and startup without it. It says Loading Darwin and then sits there for 2minutes and then turns into black screen.

One thing I didn't mention but didnt know if this would hurt my snow but I have 2 partitions one leopard and one Snow. However my leopard is ideneb 10.5.8 and it uses darwin original bootloader while im looking at this and it looks like you guys are using chameleon.

Does this cause Snow to not work?

Can anyone help me with this please?

you have most probably found your own problem ....the boot loader you use. download the boot loader from the 1st post

Nvidia GF8400GS works almost flawlessly (DVI, dual display, single monitor connected to VGA port gives blue screen of no return when changing resolution).

That is the exact one that I use and its running my 23" cinema display at 1920x1200 without a problem. I also have the EVGA version which is fanless. Its nice to run pages with flash and not hear all kinds of fan noise like I do from my Mini and MBP.

I got it for something like $30 after rebate from Microcenter, Fry's usually has the same deals as well.

Oh and not to get off topic, but for anyone that shops at either of those two stores, have you noticed that the prices in their brick and mortar stores are almost the same as Newegg.com etc? In some cases even better!

OK, but I have a IDE DVD-Burner and HDD in my rig.

Just curious how many people on this thread are on a G41M board I was never able to get it to work and I believe the issue is in the dsdt.

I have done 4 installs on these boards without problems. I was even able to up grade to 10.6.3 with every min. problems. :hysterical::D:D

this is a system i may purchase.

http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?Source=MSWD&WishListNumber=17769427

i only have 4 questions:

1. it says this mobo is supported (GA-X58A-UD3R) but does the revision number mater, 1.0, 1.1 etc

2. it is a ATI Radeon HD 5850, how well does this video card work?

3. what is Mac OSX stand on USB3 support

4. it has a ALC889a Audio integrated, do i need a audio patch after i update to 10.6.3?

please share any other useful hint about this setup. you guys are great thanks for all the help!

3. what is Mac OSX stand on USB3 support

Currently there are no public announcements on Apple's stand on when or if they will implement USB3 in their systems. Therefore there is no known public kexts (ie drivers) for USB3 yet.

1 no expert on this but it does in some minor fashion,, possible small differences in the dsdt or with audio or something but everyone seems vague on the issue., still trying to get someone to answer that question for me who is not blowing wind. I have a rev 1 board and kakewalks installer botches the boot loader install amongst other issues. I borrowed its dsdt briefly when doing my own install of chameleon , fakesmc etc. And have extracted and started patching my own from scratch due to vagueness on this issue.

2 no idea

3. The ports run at 2.0 speed I guess, no support yet.

4. If your dsdt+legacy hda was assembled for 10.6.0,1,2 etc then it needs to either be tweaked or you downgrade the applehda kext to a pre 10.6.2 version, this is documented all over the place in the forums.

I dowloaded and installed Kext Utility in applications/utilities and then went to http://kexts.com to download the patched apple.hda kext for my sound card. I replaced the original apple.hda in S/L/E with the one I downloaded and ran Kext Utility. A reboot later and I had sound. Definitely worth a try. Good luck.

Has anyone used Kakewalk to install Snow Leopard on a GA-G41M-es2h motherboard (not es2l)? I ran through the installation, choosing the es2l motherboard options. The install was successful absent sound and ethernet, both of which I cannot make work. I was hoping that someone with experience with this motherboard could help point me in the right direction. It doesn't appear that there are many posts on the board -- or Internet, in general -- related to SL on this motherboard.

Thanks for any help, and thanks to the developer for putting the time and effort into Kakewalk.

I have the ES2L but have no trouble with the ethernet. I fixed the sound by downloading Kext Utility into applications/utility. I went to http://kexts.com and downloaded the patched apple.hda kext for my sound card and installed this over the corresponding one in S/L/E. I ran Kext Utility, rebooted and had sound. Worth a try. Good Luck.

So I installed 10.6 retail, used the combo 10.6.3 update and then applied kakewalk for my mobo...strange thing is when I did the update I got 5-6 "errors" saying that the extension or file could not be updated and to try and reinstall...one of the files with AppleHD.kext...strangely though after I rebooted I had sound...should I be concerned about anything? If so, how do I avoid the errors?

So would you say erase the leopard partition and just have the snow partition and hopefully it should work?

OR

Can't I just install the bootloader separately and use both partitions?

Does anybody know the answer to my snow problem?

If you have a small USB drive, you can install it on to that drive, and set it as default boot drive. It is the best way to test, and also with that you can select the leopard and see if it will boot with the new loader. if it does you can install this to the drive and all should be fine.

to select the drive to boot in the boot loader, just press any key once you see the countdown timer (default is 3 seconds)

"Also, i couldn't find AHCI mode in the BIOS. My mobo is a Gigabyte G41M-ES2L. "

your motherboard does not have that option, you will need to either find another method of install or use 10.5.8 Leopard.

There is a conflict with time in windows seven when dual booting with Mac OSX or Linux. Try this it worked for me and have not had a problem with time being screwed up ever again.

1. Firstly fire up Registry Editor by typing regedit.exe in Windows 7/Vista Search Bar. If you have UAC enabled , you should get a prompt. Simply hit yes.

2. Now Navigate to this key , to do so simply keep on double clicking the folders till you come across to this

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\TimeZoneInformation

http://prasys.co.cc/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/regedit1.jpg

3. Right click on the empty space right below ‘TimeZoneKeyName’ and create a new Dword (32-bit). On 32-bit versions of Windows 7/Vista , you will only see D-WORD .

4. Rename the new DWORD as “RealTimeIsUniversal” (without quotes and its case-sensitive) .

5. Double click on the new DWORD and change its value data “0″ (thats a zero) to “1″ (one) . Its in hexadecimal

6.Save it all. Reboot to MacOS X , set the time properly and now boot back to Windows. You should notice the time should be alrighty

Thanks, that worked great!

hey man, thanks a lot for this awesome stuff!

i have a gigabyte ga-ep45t-ud3lr mobo, intel core 2 quad q8400, 4gb ram ddr3 gskill ripjaws, and installed OS X 10.6.1 via usb after doing the necesary tweeks to the bios, and got everything working OOB. only having some troubles with the keyboard though (it's not a mac keyboard), and i couldn't get a tenda pci wireless adapter nor a us54se II msi USB wifi adapter to work... but tried onboard ethernet and it worked like a charm.

i've yet to try my xfx geforce 9500GT 512mb ddr3, though i think it should also work alright.

once again, thanks!

That is not 100% correct. I just skipped that setting in the bios and installed with kakewalk and it worked perfect. Immanue1 what is the rest of your parts that you are using. RAM, video card, ect.

That maybe causing your panic.
