gdscei
i am wondering... i have a gigabyte p55m-ud2 motherboard, and you say it has support for it... though in the guide it says that p55 chipsets are not working?! hockeylove
Keep in mind that word "essentially". The boards are close, but the Extreme does not have the Marvel chipset for 6Gb/s on 2 of the SATA ports and the sound codec is ALC889A instead of the ALC889(without the A) that the UD7 has. You could probably use the GA-X58-UD7 install files with the GA-EX58-EXTREME and most things will work, but you will need to find a kext file for the ALC889A. It should work, but keep in mind that Win7 doesn't like to share disk space with OS X - it's possible to do it, but you need to start with a clean disk and go through all sorts of hassle to make it work. I would get a separate HDD for the SL install. Another thing to keep in mind is that every time you boot Win7 after having booted OS X, you will probably need to reset the tray clock - mine gains exactly 5 hours every time I boot Win7 after having OS X up and running. I see from your spec you have a firewire audio. That's good because you won't need the ALC889A kext for sound your board needs. What board do you have? What video card? If you can't get Kakewalk to work, have you tried any other methods? You might want to give this a try: http://tonymacx86.blogspot.com/ Several people who couldn't get Kakewalk to work had success with it. There is a conflict with time in windows seven when dual booting with Mac OSX or Linux. Try this it worked for me and have not had a problem with time being screwed up ever again. 1. Firstly fire up Registry Editor by typing regedit.exe in Windows 7/Vista Search Bar. If you have UAC enabled , you should get a prompt. Simply hit yes. 2. Now Navigate to this key , to do so simply keep on double clicking the folders till you come across to this HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\TimeZoneInformation http://prasys.co.cc/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/regedit1.jpg 3. Right click on the empty space right below ‘TimeZoneKeyName’ and create a new Dword (32-bit). On 32-bit versions of Windows 7/Vista , you will only see D-WORD . 4. Rename the new DWORD as “RealTimeIsUniversal” (without quotes and its case-sensitive) . 5. Double click on the new DWORD and change its value data “0″ (thats a zero) to “1″ (one) . Its in hexadecimal 6.Save it all. Reboot to MacOS X , set the time properly and now boot back to Windows. You should notice the time should be alrighty
Dilemma Prison
http://www.tonymacx86.com/viewtopic.php?f=...;p=19801#p19801 I got my board working, my guide is on this forum here. Everything I could Possibly test is working for me. This also has a DSDT for the board assuming you have the i7-930 Ah, we have the same mobo and proc. I shall take a look at it! I already built a 10.6.3 boot drive, installed cham2 rc4 and minimal kexts and basic dsdt patches in place aka am up and running with the basics. pdawg17
I am a nOOb with this but I am learning quickly One problem though: I have an EP45-UD3LR (ALC888) and after updating to 10.6.3 I have lost audio (no surprise)...I've tried using a 10.6.2 AppleHDA.kext and a couple of different 10.6.3 patched kexts for ALC888 but after reboot it always says "no output devices found" and there is no audio...can someone explain step-by-step what I am supposed to be doing? I used Kakewalk to get this far...here is all I have done: Drag 10.6.2 kext into Kext utility and wait until finished...then reboot...am I missing steps? Are there other files I should be "messing with"? Thanks...

I had removed the legacy kext (had read it was not needed in another thread) but then put it back... So in theory I should be able to install 10.6 with Kakewalk, then do the software update to 10.6.3 and then just drag the one file to the utility and reboot? Googles
Hi all I'm really new in all this stuff and have some problems with the sound. I actually detailed my hardware (pretty generic i7-920, e58-ud3r, ati 4870 1gb) and problems in THIS post of mine (in the #####/##### forum here at InsanelyMac). If you have any advice. I'm wondering if it's graphics card (ATI isn't ideal I've read). But, like, others have had success on the same hardware so why it doesn't work here is illogical. Frustrated. If you want to switch to the mac bios, there is lots of help in the topic about it, and also on the blog/forum for it. I have the 45ud3lr not the T, but they are almost the same. If you need any help with this just ask. Kakewalk is great and it works, the mac bios also work, same goes for #####&#####. ALIAS360
Totally new here and I have been lurking for awhile and I would just like to thank MrJanek for all his great work on this project!!! It's awesome!! And I think the community here is great people really try to help everyone. So I took the plunge and did my first build last night and was able to do my install this morning before work and everything seemed to be working alright haven't had a chance to check everything before I went to work but I did notice that the sound is definitely not working. I know I lot of people have been having sound problems but I thought that people have had good success with my board. My build is mainly for a Media Server purposes and I was wondering if any one has had success installing a 2TB HD in there build just for there media not for the boot drive. I know there were issues about having 1TB HD's as the boot drive. So here are my specs: Gigabyte GA-EP45T-UD3LR EVGA 9800GT 512MB Intel Core 2 Quad Q8300 2.5G Kingston Memory 2x2GB 1333 Antec TP-750 Blue 750W Antec P183 Case Any help will be much appreciated!!!! Any one with experience with this board please help!!! O and I currently have a fresh OS of Snow Leopard so I think it's 10.6.0 and I don't know what version of my bios is right now either I will update when I get home!!! Should I go and update to 10.6.3 first before I try anything or should I possible update my BIOS before I do anything???? Please Help!! If anyone needs more info about my specs let me know!!! O and when I loaded the bootloader to the HD at the end I got a weird message that says: System extension cannot be used The system extenstion "/System/Library/Extensions/AppleHDA.kext/Contents/Plugins/HDAEnabler.kext"was installed improperly and cannot be used, Please try reinstalling it, or contact the products vendor for an update. Any suggestions??? Sorry for the huge amount of info!!!

Hack24
First thank you so much for all the people helping us people like me that dont know alot about this kind of a thing. Second, I have a computer with GUID partition get through the install and boot up with the welcome screen and the sound but then when I dont use the boot cd at the end and startup without it. It says Loading Darwin and then sits there for 2minutes and then turns into black screen. One thing I didn't mention but didnt know if this would hurt my snow but I have 2 partitions one leopard and one Snow. However my leopard is ideneb 10.5.8 and it uses darwin original bootloader while im looking at this and it looks like you guys are using chameleon. Does this cause Snow to not work? Can anyone help me with this please?
skidman
Just curious how many people on this thread are on a G41M board I was never able to get it to work and I believe the issue is in the dsdt. I have a G41-ES2L (rev. 1.1, BIOS F6) in my budgetosh. Installed 10.6.0 via Kakewalk 2.2 (USB), updated to to 10.6.3 and everything works OOB (32bit and 64bit Kernel) except sound (requires Apple HDA 1.7.9 from 10.6.2, installed with #####, works) and onboard gfx (Tossed in a NVidia 8400GS). 3 Kexts in /E/E (jmicronATA, fakesmc, LegacyHDA), hassle free, rock solid, Kakewalk. ALIAS360
Just wanted to give an update I have updated to 10.6.3 and I still have no sound! I guess that's no surprise.... But Ethernet, USB's, Video seems to all work but I haven't put my video card on a high res setting because I don't need to at the moment. O and my Bluetooth dongle is working perfect OOB it's an Asus USB-BT21 mini. I plugged it in and it instantly showed up so if any one is looking for BT there you go!!! kh602
thanks for the heads up and quick reply. i am all new to this and its all very interesting. do you know where i can find the GA-X58-UD7 files? and which is the best boot loader to boot my SL 10.6.3 disc? i think i might install SL on my seagate external drive then if windows is going to mess around. will SL still run fast on my 1TB seagate usb external hard drive? i have been looking at loads of pages and seen quite a few that dual boot win 7 and SL on partitions and it looks alright. i managed to find the dsdt files for my mobo GA-EX58-EXTREME on http://www.kexts.com/view/281-ga-ex58-extreme.html but its using bios F6. my mother board is on bios F12. the last time i remember using F6 with my intel i7 920 D0 stepping which is a new version of the C0 stepping the F6 had problems with the new processor model. F7+ worked fine... is there anyway anyone can modify this dsdt file to work with F12 bios or will the files work no matter what bios you have? delmar1978
What's the cheapest graphicscard that would most likely work with a kakewalk installation?
