Kakewalk: Minimal effort install (EP45, EX58, P55, G41)

after many time trying every thing works except sleeping (not a big deal ) i mixed many methode together untill every thing is okay with xbench result 293 in normal speed and when over clocking @4gh result 429 wow!

so i am satisfy on my system now and i ll try to remmber what i did and post it as a clear instruction for beginner like me

as i remember

1- install retail 10.6.3 with usb method ( kakewalk 2.2 ) sound not work

2- grab files from kext.com link

3 - replace extra folder and the boot file from the one above >> sound now work perfect . and sleep work all perfect but resolt from xbench result 230 and the cpu temperature is over 48 reach 5.5 when overload !

4 - i found here a post didn't remember the number ! talking about that by that kext nulcpupowermangment.kext use search and you will find the link i but it on extra folder and restart wow !!

the themes of boot loader changed the audio work perfect xbench result 293 in normal speed and when over clocking @4gh result 42 so every thing is okay but !!! trying sleep ( networking ) but as i am disabling it by default when i am using protools so it is not problem

so that is my little story i know i am Newbies and i know that i may be did something not pro but i am glad from result i have now thinking now if some professional hero like Mr.Janek or Magnifico10 or other may be correct me if i did something wrong

i have the ud3r but have disabled onboard sound entirely so can't test those new packages. i hope someone else can test for this great community so that mrjanek can continue to improve on kakewalk!

ok so i just tried sleepenabler.kext using KU into s/l/e/ (last time i tried putting it into e/e/) and sleep still doesnt work for me goes to sleep but when waking up, it doesn't full come back and monitor is still asleep...

 

this is REALLY frustrating!

1. Downloaded KW2.2 and boot loader 2.2

2. created new partition on existing HDD

3. secure erased 1 pass write zeros to 16 GB flash drive

4. format flash drive Mac OS extended journaled, case sensitive

5. created and verified new image from 10.6.0 Retail Install disk

6. restored image to flash drive

7. installed KW2.2 to flash drive

8. booted from flash drive and installed SL - reboot

9. install boot loader, reboot

10. update to 10.6.3, reboot

still no sound

11. download fix from mrjaneks post #2903 and install.

sorry - still no sound. What should I try next?

Do you need any other files?

Thanks, but I already have a working install with sound since way back in February. This was just a test of the latest Kakewalk and mrjaneks latest fix for sound for the X58A-UD7. I tested it per his request.

 

I am sure he will get it fixed right eventually.

mrjanek, you have done a wonderful job and service to the hackintosh community. There is no doubt you have helped more people then you can imagine. In that regard can we now help you? My thought is would you even think about putting your code up on Google Code so that others could check it out and try to make changes and then check their changes back in. I think with Google Code you could still have the ultimate control on what code gets committed back into the release versions.

 

I am in no means trying to take this project away from you at all. I sure hope you don't think I am trying to undermine what you have done. I am just thinking how all of these great minds here can help you make Kakewalk the best installer possible.

First of all...Thank you for this Kakewalk installer...

 

I've just installed SL using EP45-UD3P option ( i actually have EP45-DQ6), since it is the closest specs i can get with all the features they have.

 

Everything is running smoothly except for the Firewire, it says "Unable to list FireWire devices"

 

Even my GTX 260 is detected perfectly without any other tweaking.

 

So, is there any solution to solve this Firewire problem?

I sucessfully installed SL 10.6.3 using the usb methord of Kakewalk 2.2

everything works great apart from my M-Audio delta 66 pci soundcard,

this is because SL won't support old pci slots, this is a real problem as this

hackintosh was built as an audio workstation to run pro-tools and logic,

i've tried the envy 24 sl drivers....but no luck the card is not recognised

someone told me that I should install leopard 10.5.7 instead as that supports my card,

so does anyone know an simple way to install leopard on another drive,

or a way to get SL to see my m-audio card?

Just checking in to let people know that I used Kakewalk with a Gigabyte G41M-ES2L motherboard and Asus 8400GS and it works flawlessly with Snow Leopard 10.6. Video card/bluetooth/network/etc all work out of the box. Just as easy as install OSX on a real mac! Thanks.

What's the proper way to update my 10.6 install to 10.6.3? I did that before and SL wouldn't boot anymore... just a black screen with the cursor at the top left of the screen? Do I have to run the bootCD and install the bootloader again like the instruction below to get 10.6.3 working?

 

Got the same problem with my GA-EX58UD5 + Nvidia 9800GT when updating to 10.6.3. Tried to boot in safe mode but same black screen. Anybody got a suggestion?

try pci slot #2

some of us have pci cards which kakewalk /10.6.3 (kind of) supports. most of them are wifi cards but it´s possible that it works also with other pci cards.

 

if you don´t have success with kakewalk, try cartri's bios (without kakewalk!). this will sure work with pci cards (depends if SL drivers are available for the cards!!!).
