GrootWitBaas
This is the third time I am posting it and hopefully by wording it differently someone might be able to help me I have a i7 hackintosh with a 9800GT GPU, which has two DVI slots in the back. Just to see if different resolutions worked, I changed the resolution for the screen I was using. It sent me to the "blue screen of no return," which is a blank blue screen that I do not know how to change out of. Can someone help me go back to the working resolution on this DVI port. The other DVI port works, but blocks my internet antenna, so I need to have the other one fixed? Is the only way to fix this by doing a reinstall through Kakewalk? Yes there is sometimes .... try turnig your screen off and back on .... also try sleep/wake (it depends on your setup, but power button can put to sleep and wake, or Apple Keyboard option-alt-eject) On some cards you have to use the port closest to the board. Good Luck
Pier25
So I updated kakewalk to 2.2 to see if that helped my ram problem... Not only it did not help, but it lowered my FSB bus speed to 533 ... Now I get like 1000 less points in geekbench. Can someone help me? TIA
CrAkD
I just want to say thank you so much for this. I almost gave up my desire to install osx cause every guide made my head spin and im pretty good at following instructions but when these guides get up to like 40 steps its a little nuts. But kakewalk was so easy and straightforward it was awesome! I'm now running Snow Leopard on my i7 920 with GAUD4P. THANK YOU! Now to my question. I have an ATI RADEON 3450 card. There are no options under displays other then 1024x768. I have 2 monitors so their just mirroring eachother right now. I found the kext files for the radeon 3450 but I cant seem to get them installed. I tried using osx86tools but it shows the kext files as greyed out and wont let me install them. any idea how I can get them installed?
CrAkD
I was messing around with trying to get a dual boot going and now osx wont boot on its own! so pardon me well I get 5 posts real quick so i can post a thread in the dual boot forum!
Tom Sawyer
What is the most powerful graphics card that will work with for sure? Officially supported (in other words, works out of the box).. on the ATI side, the 4870. On the Nvidia side... it should be the GTX 285 as that card is available in a mac version, but I've seen no one 100% confirm that. The 9800 GT works OOTB, I've had one of those and it's not a bad card. Bang for the buck, I think the 4870 is the best choice. I picked up two of them at 200 for both on eBay. GL! hireally kakewalk project is awsome my ga-x58 ga 7 runing now leopard perfect with core i7 920 and vga evga gtx 285 but audio problem with the alc889 chipset the only thing is disspointing if this problem solved or any body make the audio working in this board with 10.6.3 and bios f6 plz help ! i tried every thing but no way Glad to hear your machine is running beautifully! Sound has been the thing I've struggled the most with and as I mentioned in a previous post I ended up punting on it and went with a USB sound solution.. But, I was able to get sound working on my board (X58-UD3R) by using the 889 kext install through #####. I've attached a screen shot of the one I used. This was after running the kakewalkboot installer again post a 10.6.3 update. I removed the LegacyHDA.kext from /Extra/Extensions that kakewalk places, ran the ##### install, reboot and sound worked. My remaining problem even with that solution is that it extended my boot time quite a bit. Not the end of the world, but not being totally set on the speakers I had anyway I decided to let that be an excuse to do a nice upgrade to the speakers I have now. Hope that helps! There is another interesting suggestion on here about a series of reboots with a -v -f boot flag tweak in the middle... thats worth giving a try too! On your EVGA GTX 285, did that work out of the box or did you have to do some tweaking (DSDT, kexts etc) to get it to fully work?
jaymz60
Just about to order parts for my i7 "Hac Pro" project and got some questions. Should I go for Gigabyte X58A-UD5 or X58A-UD7? and Will all USB, FIREWIRE, eSATA ports work when the installation is successfull? and Will I be able to software RAID internal drives(RAID 0 with two WD caviar black 1TB)? Thanks! Yes on mine all working. you can software raid on the six intel sata You can also set up the 2 marvel sata ports in the bios.
VinP14
Question. X58A-UD3R does the Audio work, does the USB 3.0 and SATA 6 operate in 2.0 speeds or do they not work? and is it the same with the EX58-UD5?
DrAVeN25
I was wondering if anyone had any idea's on my panic issue. I am fairly new and my knowledge is VERY limited. I was able to get through the install using som Bios tweaks. It said install was complete, but upon reboot I got a panic while loading OS. Here is the error. \~ACPI\~.\n~@/sourcecache/xnu/xnu-1456.1.25/iokit/kernel/ioplatformexpert.cpp:1389 I have The EP45-UD3P. My CPU is the Q9950. I have 4 gig of ram, and ATI Radeon 5850. Any Help would be greatly appreciated. BTW. I have Win 7 also if that matters at all.

Tom Sawyer
Question. X58A-UD3R does the Audio work, does the USB 3.0 and SATA 6 operate in 2.0 speeds or do they not work? and is it the same with the EX58-UD5? Audio works, there are some previous posts detailing how to get that going. Can't comment on the USB 3 and SATA 6 as I have those functions disabled. I know the JMicron controller some of the extra ports is supported.

Going Bald
I really need to now if the X58A-UD5 is compatible?? Having a hard time finding EX58-UD5s where I live. Or should I go for X58A-UD7 Please help! If you can afford the extra cost, by all means go for the UD7. Otherwise, the only difference that I can tell between the X58A-ud5 and the UD7 is that the UD7 has 2 esata ports on the back panel that the UD5 doesn't have. You could safely use the UD7 installer files to install to the X58A-UD5. The EX58-UD5 on the other hand, has a different PCIe/PCI setup and used the ACL889A sound codec rather than the ACL889 used by the X58A boards. See attached file for comparisons. backinmac
I just wanted to give props to the creator of Kakewalk. Just did a "for fun" install using the boot disk and a retail 10.6 Disk. Amazing. Not a single Problem. Already have the Lifehacker install that I've been using for about 3 months without a single problem as well. Not even a single kernel panic. Anyway, Kakewalk appears to be working equally well. Although, I've only been using it for about 5 min, I have tested QE/CI which work and obviously (since I'm typing from it right now) ethernet works, as well as sound. Just wanted to let others know of my success if they were on the fence about trying it. Also, keep in mind that this install was from the boot disk, so those of you who are Windows users know it will work for you as well. Check out my specs below. Cheers! MisterProfessor
WHOOP! Got it working - loving it so far! Great work mrjanek. It took some tweaking, but got it running. Donation definitely on the way. For the curious, I ran it off the USB restoring with the SL DVD, which helped me get the LAN working, and then used ##### to get the sound working, had to take out the LegacyHDA kext from E/E, add the Legacy889 kext, the HDAEnabler, and the VooDooHDA 2.56 instead of AppleHDA. Now runs like a dream. These boards really helped. Thanks to all. Was thinking of putting in a second graphics card. People had success with that? I've got a NVIDIA GeForce gt120 from a mac pro laying around that I thought I may try to add. Again, great installer.
