You have to select "system reserved" as thats where Windows puts its bootloader (assuming you're using Windows 7). Hope this helps.

Haha, thanks, its ok,I'm done with 1 hard disk and 2 OSes,I've lost some sleep due to that, now its working fine,I'm gonna leave it as it is,otherwise I'm gonna be dead, hahahah

Well for what it's worth I was never able to get OS X and Win 7 to exist on the same physical drive and work. An install of OS X and then Win 7 would break the OS X install, and an install of Win 7 then OS X would break the Win 7 install. I may have missed something but ended up punting and getting a 2nd SSD for my Win 7 setup and then went the route as I mentioned earlier of disconnecting the OS X drive and doing the clean Win 7 install and hooking the OS X drive back up with both behaving properly.

I would really like to be able to split my 160gb SSD in half for dual boot os x/win 7 off the same drive and sell my 100gb SSD to put some cash back in the toy fund.

Ah well... It was a long and boring process, I installed OS X with CD,update to 10.6.3, and used the bootloader file from MrJanek so I get sound, working bootloader and 10.6.3, I then partition for Windows 7 and selected NTFS, I installed Windows 7 the usual way and at the selection of drives, format the hard drive for Windows 7 and install as per normal.

After booting into Windows 7, install EasyBCD than add Mac boot, choose Generic X86 and type in a name, when you restart, it should look like when you dual boot 2 or more Windows OSes(Not sure about Linux, since I don't use it) and you should be able to boot into Windows or OS X without any worries, This should be the steps, kinda confusing, but I messed around within this few parts, I got it to work, currently I'm in school, after I get home, gonna continue installing my programs for Windows and OS X, hope it helps :ninja:

Good morning

First, thank you very much for your great work.

Secondly, forgive me for my bad English (Iam spanish). I hope you answer me with clear sentences so that you can understand you.

My computer is this:

Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD4, i7, Vertex2 SSD, DDR3 6gbRAM, GTS250, ...

1.- I created the boot CD and selecting the footsteps EX58-UD4P, is that correct?

2.- I am following your wonderful manual and after boot properly, I introduce snowleopard disk I get a screen that tells me to reboot with the button.

If I boot in-v mode puts it:

1b705180451621.gif

3.- Also I have a doubt in the configuration of the BIOS. Is this right?

3a0c5a80452559.gif

IDE-> AHCI. If I put in both places AHCI or it begins to boot the boot CD.

I hope you can help!

Greetings

Hey guys, I'm wondering if you could help.

Does anyone have this installed with working sleep and wake-on-lan? If so, could you tell me what motherboard you are using? My P5QL Pro Hackintosh has a lot of issues with power management so I'm looking at changing the motherboard.

Thanks.

My Setup is

GA-X58A-UD3R

GeForce 9800 GS

i7 920

I had to take out Graphics Enable = Yes from the boot.plist on the USB stick just to get it to load. Otherwize it goes to a black screen after the boot logo is finished. In verbose everything looks like it loads fine so it must be the Video Card.

GraphicsEnable = yes will kill the display. Without it you are stuck in VESA mode 800x600.

This is the same issue I had with the X58A-UD5 board.

So Does this installer work? Anyone out there have the same hardware as me and used this installer??

Seems like this thread is full of more questions then answers, Id make a donation for sure if someone could make this work for me!!

Charles

I have a similar board, GA-EX58-UD5, and everything is working but I had problems like you trying to install SL.

In my case, I bought 6GB DDR3 1600Mhz but I cannot make it work, just check your RAM memory options in the first menu of the BIOS and be sure your ram memory works at 1066Mhz, may be that works... (I´m also spanish xD)

Does anybody know how can make it work at 1600???

Thanksssss

Is my motherboard compatible?

I burned the iso for the EX58-UD5.

I've tried.

1 .- IDE DVD and bios in AHCI -> tells me checksum error and no boot disk ...

2 .- SATA DVD and bios in AHCI -> or boot disk

2.1 .- SATA DVD and bios on IDE (not AHCI) -> starts the bootcd correctly and put the disc after snow comes a gray screen saying I should restart the computer.

Any advice?

THANK YOU!

Take out the 5870, replace the 9600GT. The ATI 5xxx series are not supported. Assuming that you are using 6 x 2gb ddr3, remove 4 of them until after you have installed and updated, then add them back. See page 17, section 1-5-1 of your manual for the proper slots to install only 2 sticks of ram.

Newegg does not carry the EX58-UD5 and the EX58-UD3R is out of stock.

where else can I buy? TigerDirect has neither, and Amazon has a $50 markup on it over newegg?

Does it have to be this particular board? For USD $20 more at Newegg you can get the X58A-UD5 (also on the supported list and get more memory slots and more PCIe x16 slots.

See http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList....ption=x58a+ud3r

the reviews on the X58A-UD3R has a flood of bad review in the last month with Windows 7 issues. and these reviews have the "Purchased at newegg" tag. Gigabyte might have a wave of bad boards in the assembly line. but I am scared to test that board. I want to play safe with the EX58.

I found a site for it now

http://www.ewiz.com/index

EDIT: Does this instalation method get the USB and SATA 3.0 ports functioning at 2.0 speeds, or are they useless? I might risk the X58A-UD3R. just hope I don't get a faulty one of the batch.

Cable Management, Installing the cooler, and cleaning the thermal paste is time consuming if I have to RMA the thing 3 times.

I'm narrowing down my RAM problem.

To make it short, and AFAIK... Kakewalk creates a file called DSDT with the machine config.

Then I added a ram DIMM, but in the DSDT file the total RAM was already configured, so my RAM stayed the same as before because I didn't update the DSDT.

The thing is the DSDT is a very complicated file, and although I have managed to decompile it, I don't have a clue what I have to change to update my new RAM size.

I'm detailing all this in case someone else has the same problem... It took me a few days to figure out all this.

So my question is (finally):

If I update kakewalk to version 2.2 will that update compile a new DSDT with the actual config?

TIA

Ok thanks very much .. will they ever be supported ? Might just run it in vmware if not .. I am not going to change video cards every time I want to boot into OSX :D

For those having issues with sound. Here's an alternative. You can get a USB sound card for like $3 and it works in OSX perfectly.

USB sound card

The further I've gone into the hackintosh experience and still not having a fully optimal sound setup, I decided to do basically what you've mentioned and go with a USB sound solution. I ended up upgrading my audio considerably with a set of B&W USB speakers so win win... but it works perfectly without a doubt. If I had been 100% set on my previous speakers then I would have gone with a external USB or Firewire solution. The nice thing is that I can be 100% sure that while other things may break with updates etc... as long as USB doesn't break my audio will work flawlessly.

I'm almost 100% now on my HT... my last piece was getting sleep to work. Bottom line with that is that with NullCPU kext in place, sleep was a no go. Remove it and sleep works perfectly. But... my CPU temp is showing roughly 10 Deg higher in iStat. FWIW, my geekbench score went UP after removing the NullCPU kext. By almost 2000 points.

So that said... at this point I'll live with the higher idle temperature, but I wonder a couple of things:

1. Is the CPU really running 10 deg higher or is it just being incorrectly reported/intrepreted

2. If it is running hotter, is there any way to get it to run in the proper 'mode' as it does in Windows and still have my full performance and sleep capability?

TIA!

Just about to order parts for my i7 "Hac Pro" project and got some questions.

Should I go for Gigabyte X58A-UD5 or X58A-UD7?

and

Will all USB, FIREWIRE, eSATA ports work when the installation is successfull?

and

Will I be able to software RAID internal drives(RAID 0 with two WD caviar black 1TB)?

Thanks!

Yeah the USB option is great because it's so cheap too. However I think I fixed my problem now. Maybe others will find my info useful.

I finally got my sound to with 10.6.3 and my G41M-ES2L mobo. I followed the same instructions as someone mentioned before with the boot flags -x -f, but it didn't work. So here's what I did.

1. Update 10.6.x to 10.6.3

2. reboot

3. Install kakewalk 2.2 boot update

4. reboot

5. Boot in to 10.6.3

6. Reboot

7. hit any key to enter the boot flags -x -f

8. boot into safe mode

9. reboot

10. boot into 10.6.3, and I noticed HDD was blinking a lot, seems like my mac was detecting hardware,

11. rebooted

12. back into 10.6.3 and now i have sound!

Lots of reboots I know. I'm sure you can probably cut out some reboots but that's exactly what I did.

Problem Solved !!

i have read the previous posts !!

If you want a 32-bit system, open /Extra/com.apple.Boot.plist in TextEdit and go to line 8. Change arch=x86_64 to arch=i386

Thank you all !!

kakewalk package is amazing !!!

For all i used Frontier design Alpha track :

The AlphaTrack is fully working ONLY with the 32 bit kernel

This is the third time I am posting it and hopefully by wording it differently someone might be able to help me

I have a i7 hackintosh with a 9800GT GPU, which has two DVI slots in the back. Just to see if different resolutions worked, I changed the resolution for the screen I was using. It sent me to the "blue screen of no return," which is a blank blue screen that I do not know how to change out of. Can someone help me go back to the working resolution on this DVI port. The other DVI port works, but blocks my internet antenna, so I need to have the other one fixed?

Is the only way to fix this by doing a reinstall through Kakewalk?
