Kakewalk: Minimal effort install (EP45, EX58, P55, G41)

mrjanek- I believe I am right in thinking that in Kakewalk, Nullcpumanagement.kext is not installed as there is an issue with it clashing with Sleepenabler.kext.

The reason I ask is that after a clean install of the latest Kakewalk, then a combo update to 10.6.3 - I installed Nullcpumanagement and my machine works the best and coolest it ever has. I was so delighted with it I thought I would install the latest Sleepenabler.kext for 10.6.3 to see if the problems it caused were small enough that I could live with it.

I now have both kexts installed, my machine is working great, sleep works perfectly and I have not experienced any problems. My machine is using UD3LR.

So my question is, if I am right that Nullcpumanagement.kext was not originally used what was the problem it caused with sleepenabler.kext? I would like to know so that i can look out for that specific issue.

Hi there, I read your post and thought I would install the .kexts you referred to. Let me state that I have ZERO problems with my Hackintosh, everything works as it should. The only anomaly is the reported temps are 10 degrees higher than they actually are.

Well, after installing the Nullcpumanagement.kext I had graphics problems upon start-up, weird pixel blocks & colours. well at that point I decided to "run-away" and revert back to the ZERO problem set-up.

No great insights I know, but I thought you might like to know regardless.

Regards, Anil.

This post is becoming crazy... kakewalk should have it's own sub forum.

Can anyone help me with my ram problem?

As I said. I can see 12Gb in "about this mac", but only 8 Gb in the activity monitor.

I suspect apps can only use 8Gb...

TIA

so the gf 9400 ,8400gs work 100% without having to patch , i mean same as the 9800gt's? As for performance, that is fine, there is no gaming going on this computer, just internet, music, photos etc.. I just need to confirm before he goes ahead in buys it.. Im doing support via skype acrros the country, and cant have the car fail... thanks again skidman.

I'm using both cards and both work 100% OOB as long as the DVI-port is used (dual displays is working without hiccups too). A single display connected to the VGA-port shows the blue screen of no return, if the resolution is changed, but the new resolution is displayed correctly after rebooting.

Well big thanks out to PROJECT Y for getting me on my way !

HDD 1 - Windows 7

HDD 2 - OSX (((( Still NO SOUND ))))

GA X58a - ud3r / GTX 260 sc

Upgraded to 10.6.3 with the combo v1.1 = no sound

Opened KakeWalkBoot 2.2 -> 2 folders one _MACOSX, the other KakewalkBoot

- both seem to have all the same files or at least both contain the KakewalkBoot.mpkg file which I ran and updated MAC OS

- Rebooted

- Still no sound

- Booted in Safe Mode - > -x -f ( space between the x and the minus/dash sign ) -> continued booting into safe mode -> Rebooted

- Still no sound

- Also fixed the file permissions using disk utility

- Still no sound

Under System Pref in OSX - >Sound -> Output -> no devices are shown to select from in window and the volume adjust bars are greyed out and will not slide, the mute button is checked but greyed out too.

Under About -> more info -> Hardrive -> Audio (builin) -> Panel displays Intel High Definition Audio

Perhaps this is how MAC sees it, but I know on the windows 7 side it is RealTek HD audio.

on another note.......

Currently I have to go back and forth switching my BIOS settings so I can boot into Windows. I have to unplug the MACOS drive with the Windows 7 default optimized BIOS to boot windows. For MAC to work I have to change my BIOS as instructed in the guide however my BIOS had more options for SATA controllers so for the MAC bios settings I used:

- set first boot drive to CDROM

- set Hard disk Priority to the second drive for OSX

- ICH Sata Control Mode: (set to AHCI )

- 5 USB Devices : (set to enabled)

- esata controller : (set to AHCI )

- GSATA 6.7/IDE Ctrl Mode : (set to AHCI )

- GSATA 8.9/IDE Ctrl Mode : (set to AHCI )

- ACPI SUSPEND TYPE TO : ( set to S3(STR) )

- Set HPET Mode : ( set to 64 bit mode )

I wasn't sure what to set as there were more options which contained AHCI as an answer so I set everything to AHCI that I could see... since I could not see a SATA RAID/AHCI Mode to AHCI.

When booting up using the MAC BIOS settings as above I hit the space bar which accessed the Darwin/Chameleon boot options.

- Windows NTSF ( this is my windows drive ) not sure why it lablled it as such

- System Restore ( this is part of my Windows drive ) not sure why it labelled it as such

- OSX drive

If I choose the OSX drive everything boots fine because the BIOS is set up as above

If I try to choose with the System Restore or WIndows NTSF option it will not boot and I get a BSOD which forces me to reboot into BIOS and restore to factory settings each time I want to boot into WIndows 7....

SO maybe I should work on the sound first but I have two issues which I need help with PLEASE.

1) SOund

2) Dual Booting options.

Tesla, take a look at the ##### tool from tonymac. Lots of info here in this own thread on the ##### and how it fixes the sound situation on the x58a-ud3r. Also when installing each os I recommend installing each to it's own drive. This works insanely easy. For me I install win 7 first, unplugged the drive installed osx plus multibest, plugged back the second drive with win 7 and during boot if I hit the space bar it stops the auto osx bootup and lets me select osx or win7.

I have the same mb as you and once installing the ##### tool selecting our sound chipset and other goodies the sound was fine as was the ability to select other os's during boot graphically.

I recently swapped out from a vanilla Kakewalk install my ATI x1950 Pro to a Nvidia GeForce 470. Now I get a Kernel Panic during boot up from my old OSX Snow install. Even if I try to re-install Kakewalk from USB it panics. Even tried the Live DVD of 10.5, same thing...

Nothing else has changed except the graphics card. Is there a work around?

Thanks!

I have to say this has been the most painless osx installation. It was easier than installing windows 7..

Upgraded from an ip35pro to a ep45UDR, installed SL using the CD method on a empty drive, imported the previous installation, updated to 10.6.3, did the sound fix. That's it.. everything works.

I just installed windows 7 on my second drive, and I'm about to plug it back in, and set SL as the primary drive, I'm hoping that it will detect it, since EasyBCD is no longer an option.

The only thing I miss from the ip35pro, is that fantastic fan control.... the gigabyte board seems to only control the cpu fan... so every other fan is running at full blast. Quite annoying, but there are inexpensive fixes for that... (zalman fanmate).

After that I'll try the thermal management fixes, idle temps are almost as high as prime 95 load temps on windows 7.

I'm afraid not, the issue is that that 470 is yet to be supported in OS X. I found it is a wrestling match/slippery slope trying to get unsupported cards working from the posts I've read. This was the reason I decided on the 4870. It's certainly not the fastest card by todays standards, but it is, for the $, the fastest you can put in a hackintosh and know it will work OOTB.

I have thought about picking up a GTX 285 and trying that card as there is a Mac 285 sold, but I wonder if the performance gain would be worth it for going from a 4870 to a 285. For the $.. I paid $100 for my 1gb 4870 and 285's seem to be at least 250-300 give/take.

Best of luck... I bet that 470 is a beast though!!

Hi there, I read your post and thought I would install the .kexts you referred to. Let me state that I have ZERO problems with my Hackintosh, everything works as it should. The only anomaly is the reported temps are 10 degrees higher than they actually are.

So quick question on your comment on the temps reported... is it just that the temperatures that are reported are 10deg C off or is the CPU actually running 10 deg hotter when in OS X without NullCpuManagement.kext? I would like to pull that out if possible so I can let my computer go to sleep but would rather the CPU not run hot at idle. If it's just that the temperature is reported incorrectly then I'd rather just pull out NullCpu and have my machine able to sleep!

Greatly appreciate any clarification anyone can give.

ddorbuck or anyone else:

In the ##### guide page 3-> Advanced Options -> Audio ->

There are five options, 3 which describe mention the Realtek codec

1) LegacyHDA

or

2) HDAEnabler

or

3) APpleHDA 10.6.2

Do I use both of these extentions ?

How or where can I find what Realtek ALC#### codec I have. In Windows....I've looked in device manager->Sound and Game Controllers->Realtek High Definition Audio->Properties.... and there is no description here that I can find.

PS Since I've allready installed and rebooted the OSX drive a number of times can I just try these new ##### steps on top of everything I've done - or do I have to start over... since the instructions suggest not to reboot after the 10.6.3 combo update and than to RUN #####...

Help.

Im using 9800GT. I had a smooth running hackintosh, but then stupidly decided to play with the resolutions. I think I put it on 1280*1024 and now all I have is the blue screen of no return. I switched DVI ports and it is back to "normal" but I need to figure out how to change the other screen because how it is plugged in now interferes with my PCI wireless internet antenna. Am I going to have to do a reinstall given that I need both working?

HI,

that is very good news !

what motherboard did you chose when installing Kakewalk ?

>i used the usb solution with the EP45T-UD3LR board choice

what happens to me is that i am unable to get sound, no FW and not capable of getting into my BIOS settings,,, Chameleon seems to run like on the first boot every boot,,,

any ideas what goes wrong here ?

i did install Kakewalk successfully on a EP45-UD3P, and have no problems even in 10.6.3,,,

Hi Tom,

Oh that is too bad, guess I'll just have to wait...

Yeah coming from a x1950 the 470 is insane - and for only $340! Only complainant is there are not many CUDA supported apps and the few that exist don't really work on FERMI (yet) let alone x64 OSes.

I'm using EP45T-UD3LR as well, but I install using the CD method but I did it another way, cause for some reason, I cannot install so I installed it from a Mac via external hard drive, then I plug in and install package, install my wireless adapter, update and install bootloader and viola, everything working fine except the display of specs, it says Xenon Quad Core, but that doesn't bother me

I'm not sure about your problem as I have yet to encounter these problems

i am not able to get into the BIOS settings, the computer always goes straigth to launch chameleon,,,

i did download and install another DSDT.aml file for this specific board from http://efixusers.com/showthread.php?t=38

but still no BIOS,,, and the startup screen is very bad resolution with black edges,,, this is not at all the case with my pc with a EP45-UD3P board,,,

any ideas ?

here is my DSDT.

http://www.paulodourado.com/OSX/DSDT.zip

sleep works, no graphics enabler needed

null cpu power not needed

lowers temps by 5 degrees compared to nullcpupower.kext

and getting 14,460 geekbench score

it's set up for a gts 250 but people told me it gets their cards setup just fine as well (nvidia)

if your card ends up being called a gts 250 in system profiler just change the name to what you'd like in the DSDT using DSDTSE

I use am X58A UD3R but it should work on a ud5 and ud7 as well

audio is set up for realtek 889 as well

14,460 score?

Sure?

But your cpu is overclocked?

For me is a fake

be sure to rename your current DSDT.aml to something like DSDTBACKUP.aml in case this one doesn't work for you for whatever reason you can always boot up to the other one

hope this helps everyone
