Kakewalk: Minimal effort install (EP45, EX58, P55, G41)

Ok, log shot question.....

My wifes OSX86 is currently an ASUS P5K based machine and I want to swap it with a Gigabyte EP41-UD3L machine, purely for commonality between OSX86 Macs in our household. Has anyone tried this method (Kakewalk I mean) on an EP41 based board? From what I can see in the specs they aren't that different from an EP45....

 

Any help appreciated.

Kakewalk Version 2.2 CD has the following Iterations ???

 

1) Kakewalk2.2 (Zip) = CD (26-04-2010 -- 06_11_AM)

 

2) Kakewalk2.2 (Zip) = CD (26-04-2010 -- 10_01_PM)

 

3) Kakewalk2.2 (Zip) = CD (30-04-2010 -- 04_35_AM)

 

This may be why there is some confusion as to who installed what ???

 

Please mrjanek would you ad a revision number to the Versions EG 2.2r1 -- 2.2r2 -- 2.2r3

On P35C-DS3R installed 10.6.3 v1.1, but no sound or wifi.

 

I attempted to fix sound by adding the patched AppleHDA.kext to S/L/E using Kext Utility. It changed the info in my Audio Profile to display output devices (not shown in 10.6.2) but these did not appear in System Preferences.

 

I also had to install the kexts for my antiquated graphics card in S/L/E, and when I repaired permissions on those I got a KP. So I installed them again and did not repair permissions.

 

May have to get a new graphics card (which means a new power supply to accommodate it), and a compatible network adapter for wifi.

Bit of an update on my install on a EP45-UD3L board.......

 

I have been following an amended install by ProjectY (Ray) as he had a very similar board. I installed using the Kakewalk CD as the boot and installed from the SL install DVD. Surprisingly I had full audio capability when done (actually both before the install and after the AudioID was 888 and all 5.1 bits were there), the little intro movie played like a champ. The only problem was that the HDD didn't have a bootloader so I installed the one from the Kakewalk CD as per instruction.

 

Well, thats where it all went pear shaped. Upon reboot sounds was once again absent with the AudioID mysteriously going back to 12. I then installed the 10.6.3 update, rebooted and then reinstalled the boot CD bootloader as instructed. Still no sound and still the AudioID remains at 12 with no output options.

 

I have ascertained that whatever is in the bootloader is breaking sound on this particular board, I am currently lost as to me next step. Hopefully the information will be useful for someone.....

Have just tried (in order) replacing the AppleHDA.kext with one from 10.6.3 and [url="http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/279450-why-insanelymac-does-not-support-tonymacx86/"]#####[/url] without success. All premission have been repaired and the system rebooted about a zillion times.

 

Found more problems with this one - sleep reboots on wake up and drag & drop is busted. Drags fine, doesn't drop plus ESC no longer works on the keyboard.

 

Am going to do one more last install using the USB method again (the method I had the most success with) and deal with sound later if it doesn't come up first pop.

Quick update on my x58a-ud3r clean install:

 

#1. My volume level not being saved after a reboot was fixed by the clean install

Here's a quick question for the knowledgeable ones.....

 

I see this install uses the Extra directory with DSDT.aml etc in it. I had custom versions of those file on my previous Snow install to cover my video card, sound etc. I updated that install to 10.6.1 with success but had a myriad of other problems hence the new install. Anyway, the question here is.... can I just use the appropriate files from that install on my new one with 10.6.3, namely the custom dsdt.aml, boot.list etc? I know the kexts won't work as they aren't the .6.3 versions (or maybe I am wrong?)

Found my problem with dragging and not dropping! Thought it was the 10.6.3 update but it turned out to be someone in the household reinitialising the wireless base for the mouse and keyboard. My mouse was driving 2 computers!

 

Anyway, I applied my custom DSDT.aml and I now have sound, the correct settings for my video card. It has been a long road but I am now on 10.6.3 thanks to Kakewalk! Thanks again.....

Hey guys, first let me say thank you for the incredible resource! I'm just dyin to get my hackintosh up and running!

 

Here is my problem... I just put my build together and followed the guide for creating a bootable USB flash drive (16gb). I also followed the guide and set up the BIOS accordingly.

 

However, when I try to boot, I get a message that says: "Verifying dmi pool data" and it just hangs there forever. I've been researching a solution all day but I haven't had any luck.

 

Also, I tried to go the cd/dvd rom install route instead but disk utility would not burn the kakewalk.iso, that was created and put on the desktop, to a disk. Each time I try it says: Unable to burn "Kakewalk.iso". (not recognized) -- Any idea why I'm getting this error? This has never happened to me before and I have burned lots of iso's.

 

Any help would be greatly appreciated! My setup is this:

 

MB: X58A-UD3R

CPU: i930

RAM: 6GB Dominators

Graphics: 9800 GT 1GB

 

I am using a 17" MBP for the setup portion.

Good to hear, that's pretty much what I did, except I just used the KWBoot 2.2 to update from 2.1 and I stopped using Paulo's DSDT for now.

 

I did try the nullCPU kext but as soon I used it, the first time my machine went to sleep, it wouldn't wake up, so I'm back to not using it at this point. Guess I can live with the +10c temps for a bit.

I had that same problem the first time, and I honestly forgot what it was, however it must have been simple as I got past that issue with little trouble.

 

I know you've probably already done this, but:

- re-verify your BIOS, especially the AHCI

- I have my DVD at SATA-0 and HD at SATA-1 (I installed my 2nd HD AFTER the OSX install.)

- I also set my boot order to DVD, USB, HD

 

Granted I installed form teh CD Guide, but I did test the USB as well, and I was able to boot just fine onto it to start an install.

 

It's not much, but hope it helps.

Well, atleast I know I'm not alone. Too bad you can't remember how you fixed it. I have verified several times that my bios settings are accurate. I also unplugged my 2nd HD. I currently only have the usb flash drive plugged in along with an 80gb SSD. No matter what I try, I cannot seem to get past that "verifying DMI pool data" message. It just hangs there.

 

I installed Win7 on another hard drive and it booted just fine so I know all of the hardware is working correctly. Hopefully somebody will have a potential solution.

Well, when in doubt, try the KakeWalk CD Boot. Maybe that'll nudge your system to straighten up, grin.

That's exactly how I was feeling! It seems like lots of people have had this problem but nobody lists how they fixed it--atleast from what I can tell.

 

Ugh...anyway, I did try the CD version as well but that didn't work!! I can't get the .iso to mount and burn on my macbook pro. So I booted up win7, went the legacy route, booted from the cd and reached the screen that tells you to put in the SL DVD and press F5 after it spins up. So that felt like progress! haha! However, it just froze at that point. Hitting F5 didn't do anything and the SL dvd never showed up to boot from.

 

I'm sure somebody has an easy fix for this...I just hope they show up soon! It's killing me looking at this rig and not being able to use it! haha!

My first post here, but I've been reading for a while.

 

First of all, i want to state Kakewalk is the easiest way to install Snow Leopard I have ever encountered, least hassle and as I read here, mostly very successful, and I will continue to pursue a perfect install using it. Great and amazing work mrjanek!

 

I tried to install a clean Kakewalk 2.2 USB method on a EP45-UD3L board, Q9550, 4gb OCZ 1066 DDR2, and PCI-e Firewire 800 card, and $2 ebay bluetooth USB. I tried to keep it simple it seemed to work well, no sound, but I kind of expected that. All else seemed good at 10.6.0. I upgraded to 10.6.3, again no sound, re-ran Kakewalk 2.2 bootloader to update after the 10.6.3. Still no sound, but used a cheap USB Sound card, which also worked well enough in the interim.

 

I figured I could work on the 888 sound later based on all the helpful posts here, So, I decided to add a D-Link DWA-582 network card, which is known to work OOB for Airport, and a USB 2.0 PCI card. Using up the two PCI slots on the board. The system would not recognize the PCI slots at all, not even listed in finder. Tried using one card at a time, switching slots and cards, tried another PCI card - no luck.

 

Regarding sound, at first it seemed to recognize all the ports in finder, but nothing in preferences, until the USB sound card was installed, and it appeared and worked in preferences.

 

Decided to do a clean reinstall, repartition, and Kakewalk 2.2 again. this time with the pci cards in place. PCI not recognized in 10.6.0, nor 10.6.3. This time the sound ports were not listed in finder (and no sound choice in preferences), but the usb sound card still worked.

 

As all was new, I thought maybe the board was defective, so I did a donor hard disk substitution, and loaded windows XP, and the PCI and sound worked fine, so it definitely is a driver issue. I checked bios settings, updated to latest F9, ACHI, Peripheral both on and off, no difference due to changes.

 

Has anyone else experienced this? Has anyone got any suggestions? I need to get the pci ports recognized, It would be nice to have a sound fix, but I know this is a work in progress. If anyone is suggesting terminal work, please keep it simple when you explain how to do it.

 

It is a shame it Kakewalk didn't install completely clean for me, but I know with your helpful suggestions you can help me correct this situation. I appreciate any help you can offer in advance. I know it works fine for most of you.

strangely the sound is now working for the G41M-ES2L after applying the KakewalkBoot.mpkg from the CD ISO. there's is something wrong with the audio drivers in USB installer.

 

my methods:

1) vanilla install via kakewalk USB method

2) generate the kakewalk CD ISO

3) apply the kakewalkboot.mpkg from the ISO.

4) reboot

4) beer :-)

 

 

@bobtennis: try my methods above, my board has a ALC888B, but it may solve your sound issue.

I originally had this problem as well. For me, I just put my RAM modules into a different slot and it worked...like I was using 1,3,5 and moved to 2,4,6 or vice versa???

Has anyone been able to get SMC Fan Control Working? I am able to install it, but when I try to start it up nothing happens.

 

I'm using a UD5 motherboard with 6gb DDR3 and a i7 930. I believe I have the cpunullpowermanagement kext installed as well??? Any suggestions?

What is it about the Gigabyte boards that make them so Hackintosh friendly?

I'm torn between a Asus P5K & a Gigabyte UD3P for my next build.

 

I would say it's the following, community and support on the forums. I'm not saying any one board is better then the next (ASUS, MSI, GIGABYTE, etc.), just that the people involved and those that go the extra mile make a world of difference.

 

Myself, I was torn between an MSI and GB board to begin with, but after enough reading on numerous forums and looking at the options and ease in getting certain configurations working, I choose the UD3R as a good price vs performance and compatibility motherboard. I have no regrets. Granted, I am new to the game as I am sure that there are many others with much longer experience on this path.

Sound now works on P35C-DS3R! After experimenting with different kexts and having no success, I installed the Kakewalk bootloader for EP45-UD3LR on my Snow Lep partition and added the kexts that had been in \E\E previously. Voila!

 

Sound through speakers (select Built-In Speakers) and headphones (select Built-In Line Out).

 

One more hurdle: WIFI - that probably will mean a different network adapter, but a new one won't break the bank!!

This is my first post here. I started looking in to hackintosh installers just the other day. Without knowing anything about it i thought I'll just give it a try. Tested a few guides but nothing worked. The longest i got was to the apple logo after installation reboot. To get that far i followed myihacks guide.

 

My hardware is:

motherboard: Gigabyte ep35-DS4

CPU: Intel core2duo e8400

ram: 4gb corsair

 

Does anyone know a guide or something that can help me get my hackintosh to work?

Hi, this is my first post here.

 

I'm thinking of building a "Hack Pro" based on a GB X58A-UD3R motherboard and with a Intel i7 CPU, I'm gonna use it for mainly videoediting in Final Cut Studio(my iMac just can't take it anymore...working with 1080p Apple prosres 4444).

 

So is the motherboard a good choice or you guys recommend something else?

 

My budget is about 3000 dollars including two screens.

 

Want to be able to use RAIDs (0) and dual screen is a must!

 

Anyway Kakewalk seems to be the best choice.
