baderoli
I posted a link to a kext in a post above. Download that kext and place it in /Extra/Extensions Reboot... and you should have sound. If you don't, re-run the KakeWalkBoot installer off the CD (or download it) and then place the kext in the /Extra/Extensions folder, reboot... and you should have sound. Thanks, i will try it. Mark Müller
Just posted a new update for Kakewalk 2.2. Hopefully this one solves the audio problems with X58A-UD3R, X58A-UD7 and G41M-ES2l. If it doesn't then please be patient and remember that I only have the EP45-UD3LR motherboard myself . Use the regular download links. Cheers, mrjanek Hi mrjanek, please be so kind and help me. I dont know if i could use your Kakewalk 2.2 to update my system. I have the Board Gigabyte EP45-UD3LR I installed osx using a patched retail dvd. I patched it with a tool called Gigabyte EP45-UD3LR.pkg All works fine, but now i did the update to 10.6.3 and i have the sound problem. What ahould i do exactly with your tool? robbins
Quick question...I need to burn the Kakewalk on a Windows PC but the guide says it does not work with P55 chipsets however, that is the only Gigabyte chipset I see that works with the i5 CPU. Am I reading that wrong?
xeir
Quick way to check, add something in dashboard ...if you see ripple then QE/CI works. I did check and QE/CI seem to be working as I did get the ripple effect. Thx for the insight. I also had trouble with no sound when I had Legacy HDA in there. In fact, I only have fakesmc and JMicron now. I would try removing : IOAHCIBlockStorageInjector.kext JMicronATA.kext LegacyHDA.kext OSX86_Tools - fix permissions + clear extensions cache + touch extension folder + reboot See if u can bring up sound device in prefs after rebooting. I tried what you mentioned, yet couldn't quite get it to work, however, audio is now working via the fallback to the 10.6.2 HDA. I did also test the FireWave Surround Sound module via FW400, it works perfectly with a side note: When the FireWave is plugged in, I notice an audible whine from the MB?, and it's rather annoying. Here's what I currently have in E/E: fakesmc.kext HDAEnabler.kext IOAHCIBlockStorageInjector.kext LegacyHDA.kext Using Paulo's DSDT as well. Sleep is working as well, BUT it takes a minute or two to go into sleep mode fully. I have also noticed a problem with the mouse freezing erratically quite often, depending upon what USB port the wireless dongle is plugged into. It as if when the drive is accessed sometimes, the mouse will stutter. Both issues seem to be related to the slow HD speed that I am noticing, especially relating to 4k read/write. Disk Test 65.71 Sequential 163.27 Uncached Write 261.86 160.78 MB/sec [4K blocks] Uncached Write 247.69 140.15 MB/sec [256K blocks] -> Uncached Read 75.89 22.21 MB/sec [4K blocks] Uncached Read 288.49 144.99 MB/sec [256K blocks] Random 41.13 -> Uncached Write 13.15 1.39 MB/sec [4K blocks] Uncached Write 158.97 50.89 MB/sec [256K blocks] -> Uncached Read 102.31 0.72 MB/sec [4K blocks] Uncached Read 193.98 35.99 MB/sec [256K blocks] I'll do some searching, but if anyone has any thoughts on the Sleep/HD issues by chance, feel free to drop a note. combiblock
Hi a gnereal question what is already included in kakewalk installation, by far kakewalk is the simplest method, and in my E/E there is a DSDT.aml file. I would like to know what fix/hacks has been included in that file? mobo: EP45T-UD3LR proc: E7500 GeForces 9500 GT and wondering if there is anymore i can improve. by looking at my extracted DSDT (using DSDTE) it looks like the DSDT.aml in my E/E folder compared to the extracted one is the same. as in no change. what about speedstep, usbfix, sleep etc..because my sleep is not working. tks
rheneas
P35C-DS3R Success but no sound. I have a seemingly stable 10.6.2 install now, which is farther than I ever got with the Lifehacker approach. I've tried numerous approaches to fix the sound (no traditional input devices detected) without success. Maybe installing 10.6.3 and a patched AppleHDA kext will enable sound. Similarly, I've tried a variety of recommendations to get wifi going, but it's not happening. I may have to buy a compatible network card or USB. I did gain access to my IDE drive, which I use to store music, applications, and files between my Windows 7 and Hack installs. I never could get Snow Leopard to recognize that with the Lifehacker install. In the Kakewalk installer I selected the EP45-UD3LR motherboard. This is the mobo that Bassheadtech chose for his successful install on a board very similar to mine.
polleke79
Hi there, after reading a lot on the internet i decided to go and build my own OSx86 machine. It doesn't sound too hard if you have the right hardware. I already have a macbook which is great for internet, movies, music en stuff but i also want a fast machine to edit photos (high res raw) and possibly some movies. No gaming. This is what I have in mind at the moment: Gigabyte GA-X58A_UD3R i7 930 processor Club3D PCI-e GeForce 9400GT 512MB DVI/HDCP Silent Western Digital WD5002ABYS, Caviar RE3, 500 GB for OS + programs Western Digital WD1002FAEX Bulk, Caviar Black, 1TB for data Kingston ValueRAM 6 GB DDR3-1333 Tri-Kit Retail Cooler Master RealPower M620 Since i have not done this before i was wondering if this would allow me to install SL easily using the kakewalk method. Especially the videocard I am not 100% sure about. Thanks in advance for any help! Regards, Paul.
magnifico
Hello mrjanek, if this you can be of aid. .ho noticed these differences, between three packages that you have created. .it will be the problem it will be this? I speak about audio problem ALC 889... Gentleman of the topic donated this great man who is working for the community ...I have resolved with the old package called USB Gigabyte. .the audio working… enough to make l' upgrade to the 10.6.2. I have made this test, using old Gigabyte USB and installed snow the sound it does not work, but after installed the 10.6.2 the sound works… after succeeds that installing the 10.6.3 the sound does not work, but capturing the AppleHDA.kext rows from the 10.6.2 all it returns with the sound, obviously using kext utlity. If you do not have USB Gigabyte I can put it on megaupload ...
Ottofunf
I'm starting to purchase the parts for my new machine but I'm looking for a couple recommendations. The only thing so far that I've purchased has been the processor (i7-930). I'm not sure which motherboard to get, though I'm looking at the GA-X58A-UD3R. I'll be putting 6gb of ram in...most likely Corsair Dominators... I'd love to have an SSD boot drive but we'll see. Also I'm so far behind on current technology...I have no clue what video cards are what. Could someone give me a suggestion to which video card I should get? Though I'll mostly use this machine with OS X, I also plan on dual booting with Windows 7 and playing Crysis. I'm a big fan of "as little hassle as possible". Keeping these in mind, any suggestions? Khan_Man
Thanks mrjanek for pulling all this together. It has made SL slick and easy to install. I haven't had to use a DSDT yet in a hack system, I was going to spend this summer learning about it (still will), now I have a place to start. Love that CD boot disk and boot installer. The only problem I've seen so far is that my EP45-UD3R network would auto negotiate to 10base so I forced it gig, works fine. Thanks again Khan

Though I'll mostly use this machine with OS X, I also plan on dual booting with Windows 7 and playing Crysis. I'm a big fan of "as little hassle as possible". Keeping these in mind, any suggestions? I'm currently using the X58A-UD3R and everything has been quite smooth with this install except for sound. I have finally been able to get it to work, but it's not perfect (volume level forgotten after a reboot, slower load due to the kext I'm using). Beyond that, it's a very solid board at a cheaper price than the UD5 and UD7. I've been able to achieve a 100% rock solid OC to exactly what I was shooting for: 4.0 ghz and 1600mhz memory. I've burn tested for hours and hours and it's solid as a rock. I'm running the Corsair H50 closed loop water cooler. My memory is just the XMS 12gb kit, 1600mhz speed rated. As far as the video card, I chose to pick up a cheap ($100) Ati 4870 1gb based card to give me native out of the box support in OS X. I like you want the least hassle to the setup as I've run a "real mac" since early 2007 as my primary platform and need things to just work. The 4870 is the highest end Ati card that Apple puts in their machines. On the Nvidia side, I THINK that the GTX 285 would be a similar OOTB working card as it represents the highest level Nvidia product that has a native mac product. I could be wrong on that, but I'm hoping that the GTX 285 would be an OOTB solution as it does give better performance than the 4870. If your not looking for the very fastest solution for either gfx platform, you could step down to, for instance, a 9800 GT which I had and worked OOTB. There are HCL's out there will give you all the details on which cards work natively and which ones need a little 'coaxing' to get working. Best of luck! This has been pretty much an epic win for me as I was at the end of the day able to replace a $2500 Mac Pro with a $1000 Core i7 system that is outperforming my MP in every way other than hard core number crunching where the 8 cores came in handy. I literally put $1500 back in my pocket and have made no compromise on performance for the tasks I do. If I could get a native sound support working without using this hacked LegacyHDA.kext, perhaps via a custom DSDT that eliminates the need for NullCPU as well as fixing sleep, I'd be 100%. I did try the DSDT posted above but my machine would not boot with it. It will certainly need some modifications to run with my ATI setup.
Ottofunf
I'm thinking most likely I'll pick up a HD 4870. Looks like it's quick enough for what I need. But where did you find one for $100? Cheapest one I found was $130 but they were out of stock. =( Also...I read that ATI cards are bad for Crysis (but good for everything else). Would that change things? xeir
I would have to agree with Tom's view on the hardware. The x58a-ud3r is the one I selected after a good bit of research because it did fit the price vs compatibility vs performance quite well. I've gotten sleep and audio working as per what Tom mentioned. The video card I went with was the GTS 250 512mb. I chose this for it's compatibility, speed and price, cost was $90. I did try finding an ATI 4870/4890 for a decent price but never found one for the $100 Tom mentioned else I would have gone that route. Besides I figure that almost ANY video I buy is going to be faster than what I had become use to owning an iMac or Mini. The H50 cooler is a popular choice, one I considered, just wasn't too sure how much I needed it so I went with the Hyper 212+ which cost all of about $27. Here's some temps for ya: Idle 38 36 38 35 @ 21c ambient and load(cinebench): 55 53 55 51 (I still haven't run an official burn-in as yet) Whatever you decide, I'm pretty sure you'll be happy with the choice. I probably should have specified eBay as the source... I bought 2 cards for $210 shipped total as I was intending on running Crossfire but ran into the issue of the 2nd card running at full blast while in OS X. I ended up selling the 2nd card to a member here for $100 and kept the other one of course. There are deals on eBay if your comfortable with it. Not sure how new supply would be on this card since I'm guessing they no longer make them.

I just did the KakeWalkBoot 2.2 prior to seeing your post so my kexts are minimal right now. fakesmc.kext Legacy889HDA.kext And I'm using the default dsdt.aml as well. I don't use IDE, so JMicron was removed. So it's quite probable that I did something to screw up the works. If you need me to try something in conjunction with this, just say the word. EDIT: Forgot, I have been experiencing issues with bring up 'Apple MIDI Setup' as it is now crashing on me unless I plug my FireWave in. If that would make any difference. Tom Sawyer
Argh.. Try the following package: Gigabyte X58A-UD3R The issue is the LegacyHDA kext. This package gave a bit better result as I could hear the sound card initialize or click on OS X boot (the first one you posted did not do that)... So it is definitely hitting the sound card. But... same result... no output device...
