you have to put only so much thermal compound on the cpu like the thickness of a sheet of paper!!!

 

i meant a 4-5mm diameter dot in the center that was then spread out when i put the heatsink on (per the directions). It was very thin when I finally took it off.

KakeWalk 2.2 seems to work well for my board (X58A-UD7).

 

HD icons are normal again.

 

Sleep works without SleepEnabler.kext

 

 

But do i still need NullCPUPowerManagement.kext??

 

What is about Intel SpeedStep? is there a way to get it working? Any good kext?

So... after a completely clean install with CD and Retail SL... no sound. This is on a UD3R. Did the install as follows:

 

Boot off 2.2 CD (new download this morning around 11 am Central time)... put in retail SL... setup/install

boot back off 2.2 cd... execute KakewalkBoot.mpkg and install selecting the X58-UD3R... reboot

 

Boots off of drive... installed 10.6.3 combo update... reboot... reinstalled KakewalkBoot.mpkg... reboot...

 

Sound device shows fine in System Profiler as Intel HD Audio, Audio ID 889... and all the input jacks...

But in sound preferences... still get the No output devices found msg...

 

This machine is a new build anyway so it's definitely no big deal to wipe and retry if you have anything different I should try...

 

One thing worth mentioning though is that I now hear my speakers click when the machine boots... just like it does when I boot into Win 7 so the sound card is definitely being initialized and hit by something... This is a first FWIW....

Popped that into /Extra/Extensions, reboot and sound works. I get two 'clicks' now so my guess is that

there may be something about this kext that is not quite right as it's initializing the sound card twice, but

it's working... SQ is fine, no artifacts etc...

 

Hopefully taking a peek at the kext I've linked above will give you some idea what might be going on with the one included in 2.2

 

FWIW... the one included in 2.2 is 73,172 bytes... the one linked above is 140,104 bytes...

 

Using the above LegacyHDA.kext, I get in my output devices :

 

Internal Speakers (works)

Line Out (nothing)

Line OUt (nothing)

Digital Out (nothing)

 

Using the green connector on the sound card. My bet is that the other line outs are for the center/sub and left right surround channels...

Replace the 5770 - there is no support/kext files for it. I would suggest the ATI 48xx series or the nVidia GT2xx series.

 

Any future plans for supporting the AMD 5xxx series video cards?

Also, can one build a Hackintosh using an AMD CPU...specifically the PII X4 955?

Tried X58A-UD3R, no luck just reboots, there is not boot file nor Extras Folder created when installed. Any advice? Also your Gigabyte P55M-UD2 install does not copy mach kernel properly any word on a possible fix? I have my own fix but it requires a little terminal work.

I'd like to try this method with my P35C-DS3R. Which mobo selection would be best?

 

I read that Bassheadtech had success with EP45-UD3LR on a similar board...but one of his readers, using a P35C, reported getting a different set of kexts.

 

I'm thinking that this method may produce a more stable install than my current Lifehacker test install.

I installed OS X and updated it throu software update to 10.6.3 and it worked!

 

Now I have another problem thou.

It has nothing to do with this guide but I (my dumbass) tried to install another driver for

my HD4890 card, and now when I try too boot i get a black screen after the apple logo.

Sometimes it shows some "dots" all over the screen.

 

How do I restore the old drivers that worked before I installed these ones?

Do I need to reinstall OS X ?

 

Is there a way to restore the old drivers that worked?

Hello, I'm afraid there is no support for AMD because Apple doesn't support AMD only Intel CPU's.

Hi, I believe Mr. Janek was asking if there are any Gigabyte MOBO's we would like support for in the future. Well my vote is for something like the Gigabyte H55N-USB3 mini-itx board. This would allow the building of a mac MINI type Hakintosh. Any others who would like to see support for mini-itx?

and getting 14,460 geekbench score

 

 

it's set up for a gts 250 but people told me it gets their cards setup just fine as well (nvidia)

if your card ends up being called a gts 250 in system profiler just change the name to what you'd like in the DSDT using DSDTSE

 

I use am X58A UD3R but it should work on a ud5 and ud7 as well

 

audio is set up for realtek 889 as well

 

be sure to rename your current DSDT.aml to something like DSDTBACKUP.aml in case this one doesn't work for you for whatever reason you can always boot up to the other one

I don't think there should a be problem, I'm using Palit GTS 250 512mb myself, but I can't install the OS, message was "Mac OS Cannot be installed on this hard disk" Anyone know how to solve it?

I am a little unsure what next steps to take.

 

I used kakewalk, CD install, successfully to 10.6. I would like to know / confirm whether I can just use the built-in Apple software updater to update to 10.6.3.

 

Currently sleep doesn't work right. The machine goes to low power mode, from which I cannot wake it.

 

Does 10.6.3 fix this? If not, how do I know which kext I need to install?

 

Any other recommended kexts for my system?

 

Finally, what about system utilities like CPU temperature monitors, fan speed monitors, and even video card overclocking software (I know, sort of off topic at this point).

those are the only kexts in my Extra folder

 

i believe all the settings for video card are in the pci area in dsdtse, somewhere around there

hit up dsdtse, search for gts 250, and replace all the "surrounding" code with the ones you use and you can basically use everything else

if your graphics already work then you're set

 

sorry i don't have any specifics but hopefully you have an idea what you should be deleting, just compile beforehand, if you get no errors you're good

I'm using the firewire port with an echo sound card with no problems so far.

 

Logic works great with 10.6.3, and 9.1.1. Very fast and stable.

 

I used the gigabyte ex58 ud3r with a core i7 920.

I recently bought a new system from iBUYPOWER. The configuration is similar to a lot of the ones on this thread, except for the motherboard. I chose an EVGA x58 triple SLI. Did I forever ruin the possibility of running a successful Hackintosh?

 

I also need to run Logic Studio for music production, so I really need to get this Hackintosh working ASAP.

My other specs are:

 

Intel i7 930 @ 2.8GHz

6GB DD3 RAM

Nvidia 285 GTX

64GB SSD Drive

2TB 7,2k Drive

Windows 7 is installed on the SSD, and that is particularly where I want to install OSX.

 

Using Kakewalk, I have managed to get to the bootloader, replace the Boot CD with the Snow Leopard CD, and once I press enter (to load the installer) the Apple logo shows up and immediately goes to a kernel panic. I can't really see (or even understand) what it says, but I saw something about com.boot. something something (the "You must restart you computer bla bla" dialog box covers the rest of the text).

 

Can anybody help me? Installing this Hackintosh is of primary importance to me right now. I live in NYC and need to do this for work (just couldn't afford a ridiculously expensive Mac Pro).

I have a gigabyte motherboad, UD5 and an i7 930. I've just used kakewalk to install Snow Leopard and neither my sound nor my airport utility work.

I cannot connect to the internet with my hackintosh, which means I have to borrow a friend's to even dabble with it.

Is there a kext that can fix this? I'm not very familiar with how to use kexts, but I thought this install method was suppose to be extremely friendly with gigabyte boards.

Any help would be appreciated.

Quick update on where I've landed with my X58A-UD3R setup:

 

With the LegacyHDA.kext I linked to above, my audio is working well. The only quirk I've had concerning audio is when I boot the machine it forgets the previous volume level. Not a major problem but unfortunately it is defaulting back to about 3/4 volume so if I don't remember to drop it back down it blasts.

 

I'm sure that the issue is the kext I put in place is not exactly right, but thus far it's been the only success I've had at getting audio working from a clean 2.2 install.

 

I have had to put NullCPUPowerManagement in place to get the temperature to drop down to where it should be at idle. Would be nice to not have to run that via the method posted above (and have sleep work) but I also run a 4870 so I'm assuming that DSDT would not work for me.

 

Beyond that things are running well. I've not managed to figure out a way to get both OS X and Win 7 to live happily on my 100gb OWC Sandforce SSD so OS X won [ ;-) ] and Win 7 got a partition on the 1gb WD Black. It's only installed for gaming and reminding me how nice OS X is anyway.

 

If someone manages to compile a new DSDT for this board setup and ATI setup (4870) that would be awesome. I would still like to get this audio working without this kext as I think that's what is messing up my volume but hopefully that will come.

 

I have only the Intel SATA enabled and in use so I'm thinking I do not need the JMicron kext... is that correct?

 

At this point I'm confident in this machine as my primary Mac so I have sold my 24" iMac. No turning back now!!
