Well it's going to take a bit to create a new stick... but thought I'd give a little more info on what happened when I ran the updater on the running X58A-UD3R system...

 

Updater ran fine, naturally chose the X58A-UD3R from the list... reboot.. .and now I am actually seeing an Audio (Built In) device... shows everything I would expect it to:

 

Intel High Definition Audio:

 

Device ID: 0x1458A102

Audio ID: 889

Available Devices:

 

Lists out the devices... Mic, Line In, Headphone, Line out etc... all 1/8 inch Jack.

 

Yet in Sound Preferences when I click the Output button I get "No output devices found"

 

Am I missing something obvious here? By Profiler everything looks great...

There isn't supposed to be any kext. The DSDT fix should eliminate the need for any.

Hey, I wanted to install all osx, win7, and red hat in a triple boot array. How do I go about doing that? Has anyone else been able to do this?

 

Mobo: x58-ud5 (Gigabyte)

Processor: i7-920

Video Card: Ati-4870

A few of things to keep in mind if you are going to dual(triple) boot OS X with win7.

1. As part of their ongoing battle with software piracy, Microsoft now has a file similar to a DSDT in OS X that it creates when it is installed and compares the system it boots on to. If the system specs don't match it's file, it will BSOD. Therefore, it is best to install win7 software LAST with ALL other devices plugged in.

2. When cabling the win7 HDD to the motherboard, if you want it to run in AHCI mode, make sure it is plugged into a sata port that is defined as AHCI from the start. If you plug it in to an IDE port and move it to an AHCI port, it will not boot. If you install with it in an AHCI port and move it to an IDE port, it will not boot.

3. When you get OS X installed and BEFORE you install win7 MAKE SURE you drag the HDD you intend to use for win 7 to the privacy box of Spotlight - win7 doesn't like spotlight!! spotlight will corrupt some win7 files and you will get BSODs!

 

So far, I have re-built my set-up 4 times (working on the 5th), experimenting for the most efficient set-up. Here are some of the things I have learned. (note that this set-up is for the X58A-UD7)

1. Put your Multi-drive on the SATA2_0 port

2. Put you HDD for win7 (64bit Ultimate for me) on the SATA2_1 port

3. Put your BD Multi-drive on the SATA2_2 port

4. Install your other boot drives on the other ports. (my OS X on SATA2_3, freeBSD on SATA2_4, win7 32bit pro on SATA2_5)

5. Install your storage drives on SATA2_8 & SATA2_9 and use SATA3_6 and SATA3_7 for (future) 6Gbs drives (remember to set the bios for AHCI for these ports)

6. Set your boot priority to USB then DVD then HDD

7. set your hdd order to OSX HDD, next OS, next OS, etc.

 

So, you have os x installed per Kakewalk directions and the bios points to it as first boot drive in the HDD list. Boot up, change the bios to make your next OS the priorty HDD & install it. Repeat for 3rd, etc. When you have ALL of your OSs installed, and have rebooted at least once into each OS, reboot and change the HDD order again to make Kakewalk OS X the first HDD in the boot list. F10

and let it boot. When you get to the "Verifying DMI pool", keep a finger on the down arrow key and start hitting it when you see the spinning cursor. You should get a list (or icons if you are using Chameleon) for all of your OSs and you can click on whichever one you want to use at the moment.

 

On another note, I have been thinking about getting one of these:

then using some of the 8 & 16 GB CFI and CFII cards I have for the cameras to put the operating systems on and then the internal drives will be for storage only and I will never have to open the case again to plug-in/unplug an OS HDD. Could also just get some SSDs and use them. Another thought - if I do get the above, I can keep the OS's in the drawer and just plug in the one I need which might actually work better with the windows hogs that don't like to share systems with other OSs.

Thank you Mr.Janek for my full working Hackintosh!

 

My one issue is with the internet. I bought an OOB compatible PCI Dynex wireless card to use AirPort natively. When I first installed kakewalk, it worked fine and I was able to surf. When I installed Kakewalkboot and restarted the computer, it no longer works. Does anyone know why?

I was told the AppleHDA.kext might be causing the malfunction. Is this kext safe to delete? My sound works fine at the present.

 

Also, I am trying to add a 1tb and 250gb hard drives (not to boot off of) and although they are plugged in, they are not being recognized and an error message pops up. It gives me the option to initialize them and I am not sure whether I need to partition them or do something else so they can act as storage.

 

Finally, I will eventually be overclocking my hackintosh, but I am worried given my experience with the NH-D14 the first time around. Should I give that heatsink another go? I blame it for my problems last time as the motherboard constantly said the CPU was overheated. I may have used too much thermal compound although I followed the directions of 4-5mm. If I take the intel stock cooler off and try to reinstall the D14, can i reinstall the intel stock cooler if the D14 fails again? I dont know if there will be enough thermal pad left on the stock cooler.

Ok, first try at using a freshly restored thumb drive with 2.2 is not so great... the thumb drive won't boot. This was the drive I used 2.1 on with success but it does have 2 partitions... so I've formatted and following the guide exactly, restoring the image of my retail SL disc now. Will run 2.2 on it and try again. Fingers crossed....

Ok, bit of bad news... 2.2 is rendering the thumb drive un-bootable. Followed the procedure for formatting, restoring SL and then installing 2.2 to the thumb drive selecting the X58A-UD3R and it will not boot. This drive boots fine with SL and 2.1 Kakewalk.

 

Not sure what else to report... I will leave the thumb drive as is in case there is anything you would like me to check on it...

i would like if you edit the changes also in your first posting! there´s only version 2.0.

 

oh, by the way: your new 888 kext for 10.6.3 is only 64bit compliant. a friend of mine has to boot with 32bit kernel mode (his codemeter stick for propellerhead record doesn´t work in 64bit kernel). but in 32bit mode the sound is awy, the sound tab is empty for in and out. we loaded this kext instead and it worked: http://www.tonymacx86.com/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=1053

you have to put only so much thermal compound on the cpu like the thickness of a sheet of paper!!!

Im running Windows 7 as we speak.

I have 1 sata II drive with 5 partitions.

 

If i wanna install OSX using this method above, do I have to uninstall Windows before

or can I do that during the installation of OSX?

Will my partitions be shown in OSX after installation or do I need to format them aswell and delete them so I get

1 big drive and then after installation making new partitions?

Thanks! I'll pull the new build down this evening. I think what I'll do is the CD method as it takes quite a bit of time to create the flash drive. Strange that it's not booting off of it but the CD method should take care of testing a clean 2.2 install. I'll report back on how it goes...

 

There was an earlier post about 32/64 bit mode... does it matter which mode I'm running in for sound on the X58A-UD3R?

I tested KW 2.2 with 10.6.3 and still no audio for the G41-ES2L.

 

I installed a fresh copy of 10.6.0 (it had kakewalk 2.2) onto another HDD for testing. No audio... I then upgraded to 10.6.3 and re-ran 2.2 boot pkg. Still no audio. It shows this in "About this mac" Also says there is no devices in the sound preferences.

Mrjanek, I have a working X58A-UD3R system I created weeks ago with kakewalk. Initially I had to use a different mb profile in kakewalk since the X58A-UD3R was not supported at that time but after some hacking everything is fine now like audio, video, usb ,etc. Are there any benefits on installing the new 2.2 version bootloader you just released? Oh and would it be beneficial to use any new DST files you now have for my X58A-UD3R motherboard, and replace the older ones?

 

I guess my questions can be summed up as "is there any way to upgrade to the newest kakewalk without wiping my system and starting again but getting only the updates out of it"?
