I can't do that. I'm using a cinema display that uses DVI-D (d is for digital). VGA is analog, so I'd need to buy an expensive converter from digital signals to analog... and really that's a bad idea.

I was wondering if firewire (must have for audio card) is reliable on x58 gigabyte mobos with kakewalk method.

Does anyone use it for music?

 

And what about 64bit support, which is more and more used by high end apps?

I use a GA-EX58-UD5 + i7 (with Kakewalk method) as host for a ProTools LE 8.0.3 with an interphase Digidesign's 002R.

Perfect.

Never a crash. Solid. Responsive.

This mobo has three FireWire 400 connections: 1 external and two internals. I moded the case to allow extend the internal FW socket to some place of the case (one in the front and one in the rear).

Each one works perfectly well. One of those FW is connected to 002R interphase. In the others FW sockets I connect external hard disks. Also I have connected several times a MacBook Pro in target mode to any of those FW connections.

I used the USB methode because the ISO would'nt boot (reset)

Why does the Retail DVD give a reset with the boot.ISO methode.

The USB boots fine with the Retail DVD on it.

Also tried it with a download of a DVD install Snow but also kernel panic.

Then read the guide again and with a Original Retail DVD it worked!!!!

 

Up and running, everything works.

By the way, FW works with the conection on the backpannel and in combination of a WD harddisk FW800 (@FW400)

I ended up pickup up a Diamond 4870 1GB (well actually 2), works BEAUTIFULLY. For what it's worth, I was able to update with the 9800 GT in to 10.6.3 with no trouble at all. But... decided I'd go for a little more performance with the 4870's. Unfortunately I didn't realize that there OS X does NOT like having 2 4870's hooked up in crossfire and runs the 2nd cards fan at full speed and it is LOUD! So... punted on that one and am just running a single card.

 

So going to head over to the marketplace and post the 2nd Diamond 4870 1gb and the Sparkle 9800 GT OC with a Zalman VF1000 for sale.

 

Still having no sound out of my X58A-UD3R but thinking I'll just go with a PCIe sound card that works OOB

I'm using the firewire port with an echo sound card with no problems so far.

 

Logic works great with 10.6.3, and 9.1.1. Very fast and stable.

 

I used the gigabyte ex58 ud3r with a core i7 920.

I have been reading everything but I cant install SL on my UD7! when I create a Usb image with the kexts or when I use kakewalk (that is suposed to work i have tried it on usbimage and bootcd) my pc doesn´t boot. I get to the bootloader screen but when I choose the install partiton on my usb the screen turns black, the fan of the graphics card (HD5770) goes so fast and there any response at anytime, I must to reboot the PC... i dont know what Im doing wrong, bios settings are ok (I think, F4 Bios).

 

I have tried a lot of things to get it working but any bootloader with the kexts and fixes for my UD7 will work, only works if I boot from a Chameleon 2 RC4 CD but then when I install SL I cant use ethernet either sound and get a lot of KP...

 

Any ideas??

Replace the 5770 - there is no support/kext files for it. I would suggest the ATI 48xx series or the nVidia GT2xx series.

Hello - I have an EP45-UD3L. I installed using the right package on boot, and updated to 10.6.

for some reason, i have no "internal speakers" in my output section.

I used Kakewalk latest version, and its working very good on motherboard GA-X58A-UD7 Bios version: F6 and its working very good on videocard GIGABYTE NVIDIA GT260 OC . BUT the AUDIO card ALC889 from motherboard ITS NOT WORKING!!! It is posible to make it work? OR can you tell me a soundcard wich is working with KAKEWALK?

The kakewalk programs its excelent and its pitty to not make it work on last motherboard UD7 from gigabyte.

USB Method:

1. Create an image of your Snow Leopard disc.

2. Restore the image to your thumb drive.

I may have to go this route. I just wanted a nice clean solution with everything working onboard. Of course nice & clean is a 'real mac' right? I'm contemplating letting this HT replace my iMac 21.5" but until I can get everything working 100% I can't make that commitment.

 

I've yet to be able to find a nice PCIe sound card that works OOB. If I have to punt on the onboard audio then it would be nice to upgrade the sound quality with whatever I get to solve the sound issue...

So all my parts finally arrived (in sig) and I spent all last night putting them together. This morning when I hooked it up to a monitor to test it out. It didn't work when I hit the main power button. Nothing at all. This is my first experience with a computer and I was wondering if someone might be able to tell me what is wrong.

 

Then next thing i did was open up the computer. When the power is on, the blue light on the UD5 is on like it should be. I press it and all the fans start running and the LEDs start flashing, like I imagine they should. This lasts for about 4.5 seconds and then everything shuts down. I have absolutely no idea what is causing this problem.

 

My concern is that when attaching the NH-D14 I may have somehow hurt the back of the mobo. I don't know how sensitive these are. My other possible theory is that something somewhere is short circuiting. Everything was plugged in accordingly, carefully, and wearing an ESD wristband.

your front panel wires aren't connected properly

or you have a short hitting your mobo

 

check the wires, if theyre all in the right place take it all apart and put it back together

I am in the middle of taking it apart. What does "a short hitting your mobo mean"? All the wires were in place so I am trying again.

So I took it apart and am getting a loud continuous beeping sound when I turn the mobo on before it shuts off.

So everything is up an running finally but now I am having an issue with Kakewalk. I changed the bios, put in the kakewalk disk to boot off of, and the screen successfully goes to the "Kakewalk screen" where it says

1. Eject the CD

2. Insert the Snow Leopard DVD

3. Wait for it to spin up. Press F5

4. Select the disc and press enter

 

I have done 1-3. The problem is that when I hit F5, nothing happens and I stay at that screen.

I have a DVD player and it finally worked on the 8th try. All up and running and at 10.6.3.

 

I checked the software update and there are two seemingly important updates - Safari v4.0.5 and the Apple Security update. I think I have a 100% Vanilla install (I used no kexts at all), so it should be safe for me to do a normal update right?

 

This also has confused me. I have a Dynex wireless PCI card that is OOB compatible. When I first did the install and got into OSX, I opened safari and was able to surf. Then I installed Kakewalk bootloader and I can't even turn AirPort on as it says "No AirPort card installed".

Going to punt on the Sound issue with my GA-X58A-UD3R and picking up a Griffin iMic today. Not perfect but it solves the issue and will probably give me higher quality sound to boot.
