when i try to install my third party firwire sound card, during installation i get an error message thats telling me that the kext files associated with the firewire sound card were not installed correctly. i never had this problem with the earlier version. when i go into the extras files i can see the kext file is there as it should be. does anyone know how i can fix a problem like this? can i try to repair permissions or something on that kext? how would i do this?

Does anyone have any request for support for some specific motherboards?

Has anyone had success installing Kakewalk on P55M-UD2 or P55M-GD45?.

I haven't seen much feedback on those.

p55m-ud2 - I began using this when several versions of kakewalk ago. At first I had to get 10.6.2 on the system before I get it to boot (retail snow leopard alone did not work)

I have been using the board with no issues until 10.6.3 - I installed 10.6.3 and Kakewalk 2.1 and lost my sound and my hd icons turned orange again (2.0 issue). I have wiped the system and reverted to 10.6.2.

System: p55m-ud2, core i-5 2.67ghz, 9800 gt, 1tb sata

10.6.3 with kakewalk 2.1 working great on my ga-ex58-udr3r and the ga-ep43-ud3l (USING: EP45-DS3L) - sleep, sound. Also using Firewire 800 (http://www.startech.com/item/PEX1394B3-3-Port-2b-1a-1394-PCI-Express-FireWire-Card-Adapter.aspx), bluetooth, and airport (http://www.tp-link.com/products/productDetails.asp?class=wlan&pmodel=TL%2DWN951N) and a Rocket Raid (http://www.highpoint-tech.com/USA/rr620.htm)

In answer your your Snow Leopard question. The family pack is not materially different to a single user disc. With the family pack your are paying Apple extra for the license to install on up to 5 machines. However there is no serial numbers with OS X, so this is purely a good Karma thing.

I have installed iLife zero issues.

I have overclocked my Core i7 to 3.8Ghz, my Gigabyte EX-58UD5 Mobo made this super easy, I changed one setting and the Mobo took care of everything else, memory voltage etc.

Hope this helps.

Anil.

So this may be a stupid question but...

I am about to order the Snow Leopard Retail Install disc and was wondering if I might run into any problems using the family pack in kakewalk. Other people in my family would like to upgrade to Snow Leopard and it would make a lot of sense to just install off that multi-license disk than spending an addition $30 for a single license.

Does anyone have any experience/issues installing iLife to a hackintosh?

Finally for overclocking, are there any issues using 1.6V RAM?

@mrjanek

Everything used to work perfectly with one of your first guides and install package (the one only for EP45-UD3LR) some time ago. Do you still have those files for me ? That would really help me out here.

Or if anyone else still has those old files (the ones before this project got called Kakewalk) please let me know.

Thanks !

I have been reading everything but I cant install SL on my UD7! when I create a Usb image with the kexts or when I use kakewalk (that is suposed to work i have tried it on usbimage and bootcd) my pc doesn´t boot. I get to the bootloader screen but when I choose the install partiton on my usb the screen turns black, the fan of the graphics card (HD5770) goes so fast and there any response at anytime, I must to reboot the PC... i dont know what Im doing wrong, bios settings are ok (I think, F4 Bios).

I have tried a lot of things to get it working but any bootloader with the kexts and fixes for my UD7 will work, only works if I boot from a Chameleon 2 RC4 CD but then when I install SL I cant use ethernet either sound and get a lot of KP...

Any ideas??

(Sorry for my bad english Im from Spain )

hi guys,

first of all i'm going to thank everyone for their hard work and willingness to help others. I am a NOOB and am going to be undertaking the daunting prospect of building my first hackintosh. I will be using my p.c for these things, in order of priority;

1. Music production (logic, reason, live and many plugins)

2.General home P.C

3. Some gaming

4. It'd be nice if i could dual boot in either OSx or Win7

I've done quite alot of reading on here and am really trying to make this as painless as poss getting myself to OSx10.6.3

Here's is a list of my planned build although i could do with some advise on a decent sound card and general advice on whether this will work and what probs/fixes i will encounter/need.

My Build

  • Gladiator Intel i7 920 DO@ 4.00ghz overclocked bundle including Gigabyte GA EX58UD5, 6gb Patriot Viper 1600Mhz, ThermalRight VenemousX CPU cooler

  • XFX ATI Radeon HD 4870 1024mb GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics card
  • Western Digital Caviar Green 1TB SATA-II 32MB Cache - OEM
  • LG 24x DVDRW Securdisc LightScribe Black Retail Kit - SATA
  • Aria 52-1 card reader (not the most important think so if i should leave it out...)
  • Fractal Design Define R2 Gaming Case Titanium Grey
  • OCZ StealthXStream 700W Silent SLI/Crossfire Ready ATX2.2 Power Supply
  • Sound Card suggestions please?????????

All this is just shy of a GRAND!! from Aria which looks pretty good to me but as i say i am a NOOB. Any help/advice is much appreciated!! :)

This is sounding like a pretty good unit. I don't have any special suggestions for a video card, but I'd look at the reviews for your Caviar Green HD (newegg or elsewhere) - I've noticed some really poor reviews.

Also, I love the case you are getting. Are you having that shipped overseas, or are you already somewhere that is sold locally?

Yes I've have done it!!!! My hackintosh is working with snow leopard 10.6.0

Haven't done much testing yet but I have some questions, and some problems..

My specs

Gigabyte ex58 ud3r

Core i7 920

Geforce 9500GT

samsumg dvdrw 22x

Problems

- sound is not working (I don't care as I'll be using a firewire soundcard) [solved with 2.1]

- I can't open the cd/dvd from the button on the player when in mac os [solved see below]

- I can't open the cd/dvd preferences panel as it hangs the system preferences app [solved see below]

- once my cd/dvd player stopped working and had to stop the machine, and reboot

- once my usb mouse stopped responding, had to plug and unplug

Questions

- I'm using the cd boot loader, and it's annoying... is there a way of installing it on the HD? [solved see below]

- I intentionlly left a partition for installing windows at some point. Do I have to instal it with boot camp or can I just boot from windows install disk and go from there?

- the kakewalk manual says ahci has to be active on the bios, but it seems the motherboard installs it everytime I boot. Is there a way of avoiding this? like a permanent instal of ahci or something?

I will be updating this post with geekbench results and so.

TIA!

edit: I installed 10.6.3 and everything is working

edit: I forgot one final step... installing the bootloader.pkg on the bot cd...now I can boot from hd.

edit: I solved the dvd problem in the bios. Somehow ther's an option that sata units works as ide... I changed that and now I can enter dvd preferences, and no hangs so far.

I'm having a problem installing the bootloader.pkg on my SL partition.

The booting stops when the grey screen with the white apple appears and the hd activity led remains off.

I redownloaded it again because I saw it was updated yesterday with the same result...

Am I the only one with this problem?

TIA

edit: I solved it by activating the sound card on the bios. I wasn't going to use it so I disabled it... but it seems that was causing the problem.

I decided to upgrade my 8400GS to a 9600GT. Both Asus silent video cards. I took out the old one and put in the 9600GT and it booted up Snow Leopard 10.6.1 without any issues. Just a straight swap. 1920x1200 resolution too.

Booting off my Windows 7 HDD had more of a fuss, lowering down to 800x600 and required me to get the latest drivers before I could go to max resolution.

Also, for whoever might be interested, the Rosewill USB wireless ethernet adapter in my sig worked just fine - super speeds, solid connection.

Hi, I just put together my second EX58-UD5 system. I'm converting an older HTPC. I just bought the Rosewill USB adapter on your recommendation, and it works great on both Snow Leopard and Windows 7. Speed is great, Windows needed no drivers and I downloaded the latest 10.6.2 driver for OSX.

Under OSX, do you know of a way to 'not have' the screen for the software to come up each time I boot. Not a terrible inconvenience, but I'd rather not have to deal with it if possible.

Also, does anyone know if it's possible, on this motherboard, to get all 4 Gsata drives to show up as 4 JBOD disks. Currently, I can only access 2. I really don't want to use RAID.

mrjanek,

You posted a few days ago asking if there were any motherboards we might like to have supported by Kakewalk.

I have an X58A series motherboard, a UD3R. I have never been able to get sound working on this board. If you could add more support for X58A boards, I would be most grateful.

EX58 series boards seem to be disappearing from the retail channel.

Great. I'm glad it works for you, too.

Honestly, given the graphics card failure I had, I haven't been able to give it a ton of time. However, now that all my hardware is running perfectly, I'll take a look tonight.

Hello,

You were able to make work kakewalk to suport BIOS VERSION F7 at motherboard GIGABYTE EX58A-UD7? The soundcard is not working!

Thank You

Update:

The DSDT.aml file that comes with the package is for BIOS version F7.

This BIOS update should be applied before following the guide.

The update decreases the boot time and improves CPU compatibility.

Download

Extract the files to a thumb drive. Flash BIOS with QFlash (Read about it in your manual)
