Greetings hackint0sh g0ds (or as I like to call you, 'those whom shall save me many monies')

I hate to n00b all over your forums but I have these 'questions three' if you guys could help me out

1. Can this way (Kakewalk) of installation can be used with ATI 4870 card (They use these in the new mac pros and I would assume they should work natively, but then again.... I dunno)

2. Is there a way to triple boot with OSX/Windows 7/Red Hat Linux (This is kinda a real concern for me, and before I buy all the proper hardware I need to know that this can work

3. Is there a Kakewalk (type) way to get GA-X58A based motherboards to work (I am eyeing the usb 3.0)

Thanks.....

1. Yes...i'm using a 4870 w/mine & I didn't have to do anything special.

2. Yes...i'm running OSX & 7, but they're on separate hdd's.

3. I dunno.

i seem to be having trouble running my audio interface which uses firewire. the mac seems to detect the card under the "about this mac section" and detects its speed.

i previously had this firwire card and the audio interface working on 10.5 leopard. does anyone have any idea for things that i can check for/do?

also ive noticed that when i install 3rd part software programs, a promt comes up telling me that the network kext is not installed correctly.

does anyone else have this message?

I have the same issue on my G41-ES2L. After updating to 10.6.3 no sound. I tried installing Kakewalk 2.1 on 10.6.3, still no luck.

Anybody managed to get the sound working after 10.6.3 update?

I think sound don't work, because we have ALC888B audio.

Kakewalk 2.1 Changes:

- Fixed sound for all ALC888 boards in 10.6.3

without "B".

So this may be a stupid question but...

I am about to order the Snow Leopard Retail Install disc and was wondering if I might run into any problems using the family pack in kakewalk. Other people in my family would like to upgrade to Snow Leopard and it would make a lot of sense to just install off that multi-license disk than spending an addition $30 for a single license.

Does anyone have any experience/issues installing iLife to a hackintosh?

Finally for overclocking, are there any issues using 1.6V RAM?

im at 4.2ghz and i have 12 gigs at 1.65v 8 8 8 24 1600

ive used the same install disc like 4 times now..

Does anybody have a way to change the hard drive icons from orange to the usual grey ones?

I know its a very minor thing but its the only thing that is different to a traditional OSX install and its annoying me.

I dunno if you answer got solved, but simply "iconically" speaking, you can use a program called candybar to change your icons, and you can replace the orange ones (denoting removable drives) with the regular ones.

My system:

GA-EX58-UD5 Core i7 920 12GB XMS3 DDR3 1600mhz corsair dual evga gtx 285 SLI

When I try with only one graphic card everything works GREAT (thanks!), but when I insert the other graphic card the system ceases to work (post and pre installation). In verbose mode in the post installation, it just hangs in APCI _SMC_PlatformPlugin:pushCPU _CSTData.

Anybody have had luck running kakewalk on 200 series SLI?

I love the simplicity of it, just wish I could make both cards work OOTB. ;)

Thank you

Hi Guys..

My hackintosh is unhappy..

Get the grey boot with the cart wheel, then the blue screen, then blue screen with cart wheel and it just loops with the blue screen cart wheel...

Have tried verbose mode boot, but boot as normal and when it gets to the blue screen I just have a flashing under score

Any ideas?

Hello - I am hoping someone can help me with a problem I am having.

I am running an EX58-UD5 and got everything running perfect. Then I decided to experiment...

Installing a .pkg version of Chameleon had me dual-booting with Win 7 no problem. However, soon I started to get the screen freezing up (excluding mouse) with flickering or black portions. So I wiped the OSX/boot drive clean and reinstalled OSX (SL). However, I am still getting these crashes.

Would the .pkg have adjusted by bios in some way to make this happen? Is there a way around this? Or is it possible I am misdiagnosing a problem with my GPU (or another component)?

Trying to update with the Combined Update, but it regularly freezes up well before I can install it.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Update: Have this pegged as a problem with my EVGA 9800GT 1GB, presently. As I expect this was just the one card, I'm getting a replacement this week. So, I take back what I said about the .pkg Chameleon installer - it appears it was not the problem, and I will be using it in the future (as I cannot make heads or tails out of the custom install instructions I am finding all over the place).

Given clausewitz's problems with the 9800GT, I am thinking about swtiching to the ATI 4870 1gb. The brands I can choose from are ASUS, HSI, and XFX. Which is the best to go with? Sapphire seems to be the general recommendation but it is $100 more expensive on google shopping than the other brands and not available on newegg.

Yesterday night I try to install azalia audio kext (http://www.kexts.com/view/156-azalia_audio.html), reboot and can't see any changes with audio. I find in root disk folder "Azalia bkp" or something like this. I copy kext file from this folder back to the System:Library:Extensions and see some error message box. Oh, I need some specific soft to restore kext files - I thiks, but never mind...

Today I switch on my desktop and find that sound work!

Only one HD Audio Output, no input devices.

That's my plan B if I can't get it fixed properly.

I haven't had a problem with my XFX 4890

Thanks Ray.

I finally was avble to use the Kaewalk bootloader. I used the one on the CD I made. For some reason I thought I was using the one from the iso that was created from the dsdt boot but I may have been using the bootloader from the Kakewalk download. When I used the one on the CD everything loaded as I watched it creat the extra files while I had the folder open. I am pretty cool now and everything running smoothly. Loaded the Ati Radeon 4870 kext loader and got all myu resolutions. Loaded the Dlink DWA-556 kext fix and wifi working great. Sleep seems to work. No real major issues. Thanks Kakewalk.

I still haven't figured out why I was unable to get a full install using Kakewalk and retail CdD but loading off my 10.5.6 worked fine.

Temperature control on the EP45T-UD3LR would be helpfull (55'C at Idle) Please

Thanks Ray

Does anyone have any request for support for some specific motherboards?

Has anyone had success installing Kakewalk on P55M-UD2 or P55M-GD45?.

I haven't seen much feedback on those.

Hey Awesome86,

As I was hoping to use SLI at some point, versus a card upgrade, I looked around some. From what I have been able to tell, there is essentially no support for SLI on the majority (maybe all?) hackintoshes.

Honestly, I would love to hear from someone if there is a way to make this work for the gtx 285 SLI, 9800GT, or any other card with Cakewalk...

I'm planning on doing exactly the same thing if I can't get things going for 10.6.3 with the 9800 GT... if I do go with the 4870 I'm hoping that I can do 2 4870's for some Crossfire goodness in Win 7 Gaming and not have issues in OS X. Will have my rig this week so we'll see!

The Rig:

X58A-UD3R

i7 920

12gb Corsair DDR3 1600

Sparkle Calibre 9800 GT OC 512MB

I'm having some trouble with the update to 10.6.3. I have no sound. I downloaded Kakewalk 2.1 and it acts like I should have audio in that in the system profiler it recognizes the build in audio and I can change the volume, but there is no sound coming out of the speakers.

I am running a EP43-DS3L board. When I first installed OS X and went to 10.6.2 I selected the EP45-DS3L board option and everything worked perfectly.

I also have the x58a-ud3r, and installed kakewalk using the x58a-ud7 option to a usb drive.

I got sound on the install, but after rebooting, I only get it IF I boot the SL partition with e.b. #####. Using the Kakewalk-installed bootloader, I get no sound.

I upgraded to 10.6.2 (using the Combo Update package), but unlike several user reports in this thread, this did not fix my problem. I still have no audio.

Should I use a different method to update from 10.6.0 to 10.6.2 ? Is there an easy way to go to 10.6..3 directly with this board ?

Hi,

I installed the x58a-ud7 version on my x58a-ud3r. Everything works great after the 10.6.2 update which fixed my lack of audio. What I am wondering if someone can help me fix my boot resolution to get my full 1920 x 1200. I tried all the methods on here and other places and no luck. My Card is a HIS 4870 1GB which was recognized right of the first boot. Is there a file i can download or is there something else i need to edit besides the file in the System Configuration folder because that didnt work. I hate the way te low res boot screen looks.

Thanks
