Hi,

this is my first post here. Just want to report that my very first attempt to do a hackintosh install on my budget build was successful. Thank you mrjanek for your efforts and fantastic support. Installation and updating to 10.6.3 was absolutely hassle-free.

Everything worked out of the box except audio (fixed by ALC888 HD audio 10.6.3 kext), sleep (haven't figured out yet, will try SleepEnabler.kext for 10.6.3 after checking CPU-temperatures under heavy load), switching screen resolutions (but resolution is changed to new settings after reset, good enough).

My firewire-card (3+1 Delock FW400 with NEC chip) only works, if a FW-device is connected and running at system boot. Is there a solution to this problem?

Cheers, and keep on hackintoshing

I just did an update to 10.6.3 and used the kakewalk 2.1 bootloader .mpkg to fix my G41-ES2L motherboard. No audio after update. There was audio with 10.6. Oh well, I'll stick with 10.6 for now. Thanks.

Here's the audio device in the G41-ES2L btw,

GMink - I'm not going to be much help with you I didn't change any kext's manually, I didn't even read up how to. All I have done is:

Install SL using Kakewalk 2.0

Use the ATI tool included with Kakewalk to get the 4890 working

Install 10.6.3 using the combo update, rebooted

Used Netkas 10.6.3 Exotic pacakge and his fix for a fix package, then rebooted

Current state.

I don't know anything about the kext either, I just installed using Kakewalk just like you did. I even tried teh Netkas Exotic package tonight to see if it would make any difference and no change.

Not sure what the problem could be with the lack of GL performance in OSX.

UPDATE: ok so I reset my bios and started my OC over again checking in OSX Cinebench for score improvent and not 100% sure yet but it seems if Intel Turbo boost is turned on in advanced cpu funtiions then my score tanks. I was running 21x multi with 200bclk and now at 20x with turbo bust off and 210bclk and my scores are where they should be in Cinebench

Is there some kind of issue with this build & 1TB drives?

I'm trying to install this on a Samsung 1TB hooked to a EX58-UD4P motherboard.

When finished, all I have is a blue screen after I set up my keyboard.

I tried doing 2 partitions of 500GB each, but it locks up during install.

Would I be better off installing my Win 7 on the 1TB & installing Kakewalk on a WD 640GB Black?

Ideas? Suggestions?

Thanks!

I have two pretty basic questions :(

1) Does anyone else get the error removing external hard drive after comming back from sleep? I have a 500gb seagate that as a time machine drive and OSX fails to eject it before sleep for some reason so when my computer wakes I get that nasty message. My 'solution' so far has been to manually eject it before I make it go sleep.

2) If I upgraded to say 10.6.4 and that broke a large part of my system would I be able to restore back to 10.6.2 from my time machine backup? I guess that would involve installing a fresh copy of osx and then restoring the latest backup? Or would carbon copy be a better option.

Thanks!

Hi Janek,

I have been posting comments on your direct blog, but figured I would create an account and post here to show my appreciation for your development effort. This is what I posted as a comment on your site today - im still having some of the same issues as my previous install but are stated below - and thank you!

HiJanek,

Checked out the latest stable release! I confirmed the osx 10.6 server functioning properly in the last major "GigabyteOSX: New update v1.6 Beta". Im happy to report this is currently functioning properly in latest "Kakewalk 2.1". I am still having some minor issues with random kernel panics, but I think its related to additional hardware - labeled my secondary video controller in red.

Thank you again for the wonderful work, and if possible would like an opportunity to text on ichat/aim

I picked up a UD3L from Canada Computers for 95 dollars. I bought this over the R version, as I wanted to swap the ddr2 ram from my previous c2d board. By holding off on a 600 dollar investment in i7 CPU and board, I opted for a souped up graphics card and quality psu. I bought the Evga 9800gtx+ and a Corsair 450 psu for about 250 dollars combined.

Kakewalk worked as advertised and the PDF instructions made it dead simple. Thank you so much! The kakewalk update for 10.6.2/.3 was also the only way to restore audio after updating. One small nitpick though. Audio shows as internal speakers. Not a big deal.

For the install and update to 10.6.3, I used a generic 7300 graphics card. After updating to 10.6.3, my new GTX+ card was fully supported. It's quiet for a card this big and all graphics are super fast.

Thanks for your hard work!

Does anybody have a way to change the hard drive icons from orange to the usual grey ones?

I know its a very minor thing but its the only thing that is different to a traditional OSX install and its annoying me.

Strange I dont have this problem, but are your drives connected over usb/firewire? Or are you using onboard sata/ide controller for your drives? It could be a issue the controller detecting the drives improperly.

When I installed the kakewalk bootloader from puru.se, my hard drive icons returned to the standard ones. Try that.

Also, anyone have an issue with the EP45-UD3P where your DVD-ROM is randomly polled? Everything else works like a dream for me, except for the fact that I have to manually select the correct sound output device everytime I reboot.

Hi Guys

Any help on getting an Nvidia Quadro Fx4500 x2 working under this install?

When I install the card, i get the mac loading screen... but then a blue screen. the blue screens change to different shades, but nothing ever happens beyond that...

Have jot found any ROMS for this card to make it work in mac os.

if it is not possible, could someone recommend a quad dual link DVI solution that will work in mac os?

Hey guys, this is my proposed final build. Could you give it a lookover. I wrote up a previous post but it logged out on me.

My biggest issue has been finding a case that I like, but I think I have settled on the CM690II Advanced However, I hate the blue light. Is there a way to turn it off? Does anyone know if the Regular version has the blue light?

If I can't get it without the blue light, I would go with the Antec Solo, but I worry about overclocking and space issues. Does anyone know if that will be a problem.

Otherwise, here is my proposed build. Any comments on the SSD would be really helpful.

CM690II Advanced Case

Intel Core i7-930 Bloomfield 2.8GHz 4 x 256KB L2 Cache 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core Desktop Processor

GIGABYTE GA-EX58-UD5 LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard

XFX HD-489X-ZSFC Radeon HD 4890 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card

Corsair 750W PSU

Kingston SSDNow V Series SNV125-S2/30GB 2.5" 30GB SATA II Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 ST31000528AS 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

G.SKILL 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Triple Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9T-6GBNQ

Finally, is there anything else that I need to make airport/wireless internet work as well as have firewire compatibility?

Go with the OCZ SSD for $20 more you get a MUCH faster SSD boot drive (you get the $20 back in rebate)

I will just quote myself from the Bios thread .... Please mrjanek ....I know you are the man for this ....and If you do I'll personally send some more beer money :)

I also have and had the Kakewalk install. I also saw the same problem, hence I asked mrjanek in the kakewalk thread to do us a "clean" boot CD/USB package specially for this bios ....this should be generic for all boards in the project. I asked him because from all the guides his was the most simple and straight forward of all so far, and I have tried alot of the guides out there.

I know the sleeping has to do with his install, because I also did a EmpireEFI and boot132 install on the very same machine, and they work .... but need some other things like the EFIstring for GFX.

I have also just bought a GT120 of Ebay to see if it will work native. If it does, then a bare minimum CD/USB boot will do a full install working OOTB and this CD/USB should then add the Kexts in /Extra/Extensions

fakesmc.kext

LegacyHDA.kext

and

Files in /Extra

com.apple.Boot.plist

SMBIOS.plist

This will also then make helping some of the people on here, having a suggested basic install that works 100% with the great work done here, and if we have this there will be no more (well theoretically speaking) silly questions about why some things are not working. This can then also be posted to the blog ...

Also from what I have seen here blackos have the know how to do this also .... so I put the same thing in here. I will also break the rules a bit and cross post this on the kakewalk thread so that mrjanek can see it.

Unfortunately I don't know exactly how to make this boot CD/USB pakage .... but if all requests for something like this, then I'll give it a shot at making it ...... so lets see what happens in the next week.

I'm using the Intel SATA controller on my X58A-UD7 for my HDDs and they are all showing up with the orange icons. I'll try installing the 2.1 bootloader

Just installed 2.1 bootloader and I'm having the same problem, the drives are reporting as removable :)

I have the same issue with my Gigabyte G41-ES2L. I updated to 10.6.2 and also tried 10.6.3. I looked in Sys Preferences - sound but it says there are no audio devices. According to System Profiler, it sees an audio device but it doesn't see any inputs.

On 10.6.2 and 10.6.3 it just displays:

Intel High Definition Audio:

Device ID: 0x1458A002

Audio ID: 887

However on 10.6, it displays this:

Intel High Definition Audio:

Device ID: 0x1458A002

Audio ID: 887

Available Devices:

Speaker:

Connection: 1/8-Inch Jack

Internal Microphone:

What's weird is if I use SuperDuper to clone my 10.6 install and boot off of it, there is no audio as well. It's an exact clone of my main drive with no updates.

I'll stick with 10.6 for now since it works flawlessly. However, it would be nice to be able to use the latest.

Thanks for your work mrjanek! I sent you a donation. So should everyone else! You saved hundreds building a hackintosh so a few bucks ain't gonna kill you ;)

I got this to work after doing the combined update by downloading the KakewalkBoot 2.1 file off the site. I ran that restarted and sound worked fine. This was done on a straight install of Kakewalk. I then ran just the 10.6.3 combined update. After the update I lost sound. Ran the KakewalkBoot 2.1 installer then restarted and sound was back. I have since ran all of the software updates. Itunes, Safari, etc. So far so good.

Right now I can't get it to boot into 64 bit mode but I will start researching that tonight.

By the way, I know I need to add a hardware signature here, I will work on that for future posts as well.

I'm up and running!

100% Success, everything is working.

But I need help, because I can not change my Display resolution to 1600x900, I've tried with an entry in my com.apple.boot.plist

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">

<plist version="1.0">

<dict>

<key>Kernel</key>

<string>mach_kernel</string>

<key>Kernel Flags</key>

<string>arch=x86_64</string>

<key>Timeout</key>

<string>3</string>

<key>Theme</key>

<string>Default</string>

<key>Graphics Mode</key>

<string>1600x900x32</string>

<key>GraphicsEnabler</key>

<string>Yes</string>

<key>EthernetBuiltIn</key>

<string>Yes</string>

<key>RestartFix</key>

<string>Yes</string>

</dict>

</plist>

Didn t work. I can change resolution but there is no choice for 1600x900 for my Acer v203h (DVI with Adapter to the VGA in of the display).

I believe grfx acceleration is working properly but I couldn't make geek bench run.

Please help.
