Sound it turned on by going to system preferences/sound and setting the output as "internal".

Thanks leafhoud. I'll be sure to read the FAQ next time!! Also getting the boot0 error so I guess I'll have to repartition my 1.5TB drive.

I have had my board about 6 weeks now. I am a long term MacUser and this is my first PC build. My Geekbench scores at 3.8 Ghz are around 14,000! Simply crazy, & so easy to achieve. One simple change and boom!

 

Ethernet, Firewire, Optical Audio, sleep, everything works. I had a few days of struggling to get my boot stick working until a user on another forum suggested http://puru.se I used his Kakewalk method. It is so easy it is silly. I used the CD method, then after OS X was up and running I used the installer on the CD to install the boot loaders.

 

My Radeon HD4870 works like a dream, I mega happy.

I certainly hope to get a GA-EX58-UD5 board with no problems. How long have you had yours for? You would think that in time Gigabyte / Realtek would have corrected the problem and updated the board, though as far as I know there's only just a Rev 1.0 of it.

This is probably a bad question to ask, but for me it didn't come out clear from the attached guide, please bear with me.

 

Does the KakewalkCD-app have to be run and the resulting .iso burned on the same computer which is subject to a Snow Leopard install?

My reason for asking is that I followed the exact steps in the guide and burned the .iso on my MacBook; however, even with two separate boot disks burned, my destination computer (x58-ud5) displays a general boot error when booting from these CDs, so I'm pretty much stuck at that stage in the process.

Hi, once again! Quick Thank you for kakewalk, works superb on my computer.

 

But I was wondering how I should go with the updates from here on? It has 10.6 right now, I believe apple update will first go to 10.6.1 and then 10.6.2 and lastly 10.6.3? I can't just press the "update now" button I guess :(

 

And I'm a noob so I'd be happy if you explain it easy for me.

I run a C2Q 2.4 x4 Intel Processor, P45 UD3LR, 8800 GTS 512.

Hi Calle, you burn the ISO, then you boot your soon to be Hackintosh with the CD you created from the ISO. You must make sure in your BIOS settings the first boot device is the CD drive.

 

Once you get booted with the CD you can follow the onscreen instructions. Which will include swapping the boot CD and inserting your Snow Leopard (SL) install disc. At this point you will be running the SL installer. Format your internal HD if needed and then install SL.

 

After the install is complete. you will need to restart. But make sure you put the ISO CD back in before you reboot. You will then get to the screen with instructions you saw before. Select the HD you installed SL onto, and boot away. Once you are in SL. The ISO CD will be mounted on the desktop as a normal CD.

 

On that CD will be an installer package to install the boot loader on to your SL HD. There is also a package for ATI video cards in a separate folder. Install that if you have an ATI card. You can now eject the ISO CD.

 

The next time you boot up you will boot straight into SL! No need for the ISO CD!

 

I have only done this once, six weeks ago, so if anyone spots any errors please chime in.

 

Finally, and most important, your BIOS settings must be correct. The first boot device must be set to CD drive!

hoskoau, I simply updated using software update. In my Hackintosh I have four HD's, I use one as the boot disc, with the system and my apps installed (Around 23GB's). I then clone this disc to another HD. I use the clone as a backup. On my third much bigger HD I have all of my media and work files. On the fourth HD I have Win7.

 

This setup means once I had everything working with my first install of Snow Leopard, I created a clone. The clone allows me to go back if a system update screws everything up!

 

I know this is a belt & braces approach, but it means if I apply a system update I am always safe. And up to now I have had zero problems. In fact, since I discovered the Kakewalk install method, my Hackintosh has been 100% working and trouble free. Maybe I am a lucky {censored}. But I did do tons of research before I bought my components.

 

Another benefit, of only having your OS and apps on your boot disc means the footprint is small. In my case around 25GB's, with Final Cut Studio and ADOBE CS4 installed. This means when funds permit I will put all of that stuff on a SSD.

 

Separating my work & media files from my OS HD was the second smartest move I have made. The first was saving €1800 building my Hackintosh!

 

I am sorry I can't help you more specifically, but if it helps my video card is a XFX 1GB Radeon HD4870.

That's similar to my hard-drive setup Anil.

 

You didn't have to apply a patch to get the 4870 working once you installed the 10.6.3 update?

What do you use to clone your system drive to your backup drive??

 

I haven't applied anything. Have you tried reapplying the ATI package that comes Kakewalk.

I've just stumbled across this installer and have to say its awesome. Nice work.

 

I am running an GA-EP45-DS4P that I installed using the GA-EP45-UD3P installer with a Q9550 Proc. I upgraded to 10.6.3, Everything seems to be working well except firewire (which I don't really use anyway).

 

I do have an issue with virtualization on this rig however. It doesn't seem to be product related as I started off with VirtualBox, then had the same issue with fusion. As soon as I start the VM, CPU0 goes to 100% utilisation and stays there.

 

Has any one encountered this before?

KERNEL PANIC ON SHUT DOWN

 

Hi folks can someone throw a helping hand on this thing I am having.

 

It all started two nights ago when I shut down my hackmack (EX58-UD3R, i7 920, 6GB RAM, 10.6.3) - it took quite some time to do so as opposed to the 3-4seconds it usually takes so I used the power button to shut it down.

 

Last night I got back on my hackmack and everything was normal - I completely forgot about that issue I had the previous night. So at the end of the day I did Apple-> Shut down it gave a grey screen KP.

 

I installed OSX the Kakewalk way (hence the post here) and I was wondering what might have caused it, if anyone else has had similar issues in the past, and any ideas on fixing it.

Thanks Anil, I'm up and running 10.6.3! I didn't see in the guide that you had to install the bootloader separately post install.

 

This is the BEST install method! Now only wish I could get my Linksys WMP300N wifi card working!!

I just installed Snow Leopard on my rig and I'm having some issues with my dual boot. As soon as I changed to SATA settings in the BIOS to AHCI I can no longer boot into Windows 7, I get a BSOD. Guess I needed to install the Gigabyte SATA driver first.

 

How is the effort going to have the hardrive icons show up as the usual grey HDD icon instead of the orange external HDD icon?

Many walkthroughs about this on the net - google how to boot windows 7 with AHCI

 

I just installed Snow Leopard on my rig and I'm having some issues with my dual boot. As soon as I changed to SATA settings in the BIOS to AHCI I can no longer boot into Windows 7, I get a BSOD. How do I get around this? The actual OSX install went like a charm I just need to get Windows back up and running.

Same problem here. I think is the ATI 4850 Video Card to cause it ... have you sorted it ?

Hi calle,

 

It seems there is something wrong with the ISO Cd you have burnt. Please outline how you go about burning the CD. I know this is basic stuff, but you are getting stuck at the first hurdle, which seems a bit strange. One caveat, I am new to this Hackintosh stuff. Been a Mac user for 20+ years, and Hackintosh is new to me. But I will try and help you.

Anil: thanks for helping, I would've done the steps that you're describing, but the CD wont boot up due to an error (that is, the Kakewalk boot CD). Has anyone had this problem?

I've just encountered an interesting problem that I hope someone can help me with. I installed Snow Leopard and used Kakewalk for my EP45-UD3LR motherboard. Everything worked fine but then I did a combined update from apple and i've now lost all input/output audio devices. Does anyone know how I can get these back?

UPDATE : The problem is my Video Card, today i change my VGA with nVidia product, and the retail installation running simply brilliant without any problems anymore! thx a lot Kakewalk & puru.se team ... hail from Indonesia everyone :)

I'm still having problems with my Windows 7 BSOD every time I switch into AHCI on my X58A-UD7. I tried installing the drivers and even the reg edit but still getting it. Might try re-installing with the pre-install drivers. Its funny how the SL install was a lot easier then trying to get Windows to play in AHCI :P

Hi I have the ep45-ud3l mobo with ati 4850

when I try to install the screen goes blank. But if I install under safe mode (-x) everything is fine. But I also have to boot in safe mode, any advice on this
