Kakewalk: Minimal effort install (EP45, EX58, P55, G41)

Hello, everyone.

 

Recently I've bought a GA-EP43-DS3LR.

I am new to Hackintosh so I've tried to find the easiest install guide.

My mobo wasn't in the list , but by using Gigabyte comparison table, I've found matching motehrboard from list (EP-45-UD3LR). Most specs matched so I selected this motherboard to make a USB installation drive.

 

I've read suggestions about BIOS configuration and chaged particular options mentioned in several guides.

After that I've booted from my USB drive and after some loading got "Restart computer" message.

 

Then I've tried to install using boot flags : -x32 -v -x -f. Installation stucked after finding ethernet (see the picture in attach). I tried disabling onboard lan, but stucked the same place - DSMOS Has Arrived.

It seems that next step breaks installation.

Any suggestions would be apreciated, because I have already spent about 5 hours trying to install Snow Leo.

You have a video problem. The next 'step' is presentation of the Mac startup GUI. You machine cannot find a video driver, hence it stops. You need to explore what is required to get your video card to work.

i just upgraded to 10.6.3 and i am having audio problems, i am using a ep45-ud3l mobo.

i tried some of the options mentioned before with no luck. don't know if i am doing it right or installing the right patches to get it working.

I have done everything as described. Powerbutton still won't sleep. Apple->Sleep shuts down my hack instead of putting it to sleep.

 

 

are you sure you did everything in there? Because The difference after all the changes is pretty significant. I deleted Nullcpupower.. and sleepenabler and temps and perfomance increased significantly

 

do you have this option?

do you know what could be causing me to not boot at my native resolution?

i've added

<key>Graphics Mode</key>

<string>1920x1080x32</string>

 

to my com.apple.boot.plist in system configuration but still no luck? it's the ONLY problem i have with my hackintosh

You might have to make some changes to the default theme. I think there is a text file hidden in the /Extra/Themes/default folder that contains some references to the resolution. Try replacing the value with your monitors resolution.

I'm running Gigabyte's EX58-UD5 and I'm having issues with audio through-put. I have audio going into the line in port and line in is showing sound levels (System Preferences>Sound>Input). However, when I go to Utilities>Audio Midi Setup to set the Built-in Line Input, I am unable to check the "Thru" box that will allow sound to pass through.

 

Is this an error on my part, or would this be considered a bug in Kakewalk?

 

So I’ve found a solution to the audio problem I posted before. There’s a free piece of software called LineIn that takes care of my audio input/output problems entirely! I hope this helps any of you who ran into the same issues as I.

Thanks for reply. I have a GeForce 8500GT, where I should look at to fix the problem? Do I need to add an additional kext to my installation drive?

I've got those values plugged in into the theme.plist.

 

but the problem goes all the way back up to the BIOS. everything is a smaller resolution until OSX boots up

Hello today i installed Snow Leopard on G41M-ES2L with the Kakewalk cd for this board. When I did the first boot it went smooth. Everything worked sound,network,usb and even my video card(Nvidia 7300 GT). I then installed the Kakewalk bootloader pkg from the disk on to my hard drive. When I reboot It won't start up. I get the Light grey screen with the Apple Logo Then a dark Grey screen that tells me to hold the power button to restart(it also say it in many different lang.). I put in the Kakewalk cd and boot my harddrive with it and it boots up fine with everything working. I have no clue as to why it dose this. Can anybody help?

I'm pretty sure your video card is causing the problem. You can try to fix it somehow but I recommend getting a new card.

d3n5h4, Thank you for your reply. I downloaded the boot package again on the Mac OS and reinstalled it. It worked! Everything is working including my video card (GT 7300). I think my Kakewalk cd that i durned the first time did not burn correctly.

 

PS. for those of you using the G41M-ES2L boards, if you follow the guide change your bios settings as described but there is no a setting in the bios to change your raid setting to ahci. Thats ok skip that and change the rest of the settings, it will work. I also kept my setting to 32 bit instead of 64 bit. This is a great little board with a lot of potential and it runs Mac OS Leopard great, good luck!

Do you mean that we're supposed to burn Kakewalk.zip to a CD and it will bootable by itself? Or should we rename the Kakewalk.zip to Kakewalk.iso THEN burn it?

Hej mrjanek, thanks for the updated links - I am going to rebuild again so will use the version 2 now.

 

As you may have noticed from a couple of my recent posts I have been having difficulty with my nVidia 9500GT - after update to 10.6.3 my display will not size correctly on my 42" Toshiba TV which is my display. I get the correct resolution 1080P but if overscan is on the image on screen is too big and I lose the menu bar at the top and part of the dock at the bottom. If overscan is off the image does not fill the screen - it leaves black space around the image and is too small to be usable on my tv. My Kakewalk box is my media centre so the only display is the TV.

I have tried various things to fix the issue, including using DVI > HDMI cable from card to tv but the issue remains. I also added my device ID to the graphics kexts but that did not resolve the issue either. I am coming to the conclusion that what I am experiencing is down to Apple's changes with regard to HDMI or nVidia graphics cards. So I am considering changing the card to one that works correctly with HDMI, my TV and of course Kakewalk. I see you use a ATi 4890 card.

 

My question is are you aware of the issue with HDMI and if so do you know if it is only with specific cards or is there a general issue affecting all nVidia cards. I will swap the card from my other hackintosh an ATi 1950 Pro to test if that works with the DVI > HDMI cable - does that work "out of the box" with Kakewalk or should I use drivers from Bronya?

I'm not sure myself, better instructions for this are needed. But I think the .iso will be in the .zip.

Mike - You need to download the Kakewalk2.0CD.zip and then expand it (if it is not expanded automatically when you download it). Once you have expanded it you will see that you have a Kakewalk folder. Inside the Kakewalk folder will be Guide.pdf, KakewalkCD (application) and an Optional folder. Run the KakewalkCD application and select the type of motherboard you are using and that will create the kakewalk.iso on your desktop.

 

I have not done this myself yet as I used a USB install in the past - I simply read the instructions so I hope I have stated it correctly.

I would like you to know that in my case, I have no problem with DVI/HDMI connections after 10.6.3 update.

May be, because my graphic card is a GeForce GTX 260.

Did you know that Kakewalk also works great with GA-EP41-UD3L if you choose G41M-ES2L to install ? I only had problems with ALC888 but that feels almost "normal"

Just for the record, I just updated to 10.6.3 on my hackintosh with a EP45-UD3R motherboard, and everything worked great.  Didn't even need to use the audio fix.  :censored2:

I see a number of users (including mrjanek apparently, according to his sig) using the Radeon 4890 with Kakewalk. Is this a challenging card to use when installing Snow Leopard via Kakewalk, or will Kakewalk take care of it?

 

I've got a GIGABYTE GA-EX58-UD5 system ordered, except I need to pick and order my graphics card. Would love the power of the 4890, but it seems that an nVidia 9800 GT 1GB would be an easier install (according to some of the posts I've read) but would love to be proved wrong about the 4890. (also, looking for dual screen output, so wondering if that works with this card via Kakewalk)

 

If the 4890 is kosher with Kakewalk, are there any specific ones I should consider? Thanks!
