mrjanek
I am also having the panic while trying to install using the latest version of kakewalk on a G41M-ES2L. Tried using the USB and the CD method, same results with either. I will look into this tomorrow (Saturday). I've had a busy schedule lately. Byzentean
Its a laptop. This guide works for desktops.you have the wrong CPU and motherboard. Even if you could somehow get it to start, your DSDT would be completely different. Nothing would work. Nothing in your laptop is compatible with this guide. Nothing. Well, maybe the shift key on your keyboard, but only if its USB instead of PS2. Is there another guide I could use??
ChemicalWeather
mrjanek I don't suppose you have any idea why my HDD is not showing up in disk utility? quoting my original post: I installed kakewalk onto my USB drive and I have an MSI x58 Platinum, I selected the one MSI board in the installer thinking it would be similar as the platinum is a popular choice for hackintoshes (I had mine up and running perfectly for about 6 months until I got a kp and opted to reinstall). Anyway, it seemed to work fine booting up (no kp) and I got the snow leopard install screen which I figured meant I was good to go. However when i went to transfer the OS to the HDD in disk utility my 1TB SATA hard drive is not showing up. I know the hdd still working and like i said i've been using a hackintosh for a while so it's definitely compatible but it is just not showing up in disk utility. Any ideas? Thanks in advance. Kyusaku
I am trying to do this on a Gigabyte EP45-UD3P system, and I keep getting the error "Image checksum error, sorry... Boot failed: press a key to retry" This is via the KakewalkLegacy.iso I don't have a Mac install to try the other install method.
mike366
mrjanek, thanks. Installing the latest bootloader fixed the sleep issues with the EP45-UD3P. Thanks you!
glogulus
I have a question mrjanek. What happens if I want to change my video card to a gtx285. Can you give me some directions on what I would need to do to an already running system in order to upgrade? I'm currently running an 8800GTX and am thinking of going to a GTX285. mikedddd
Is there another guide I could use?? Really, I have no idea. Laptops are very individual. They have their own controllers for sound, video, etc. Try searching around the site for your laptop, or something close to it, and give it a try. Good luck
Katskull
Well first I have to say mrjanek this is all amazing so far. I personally haven't got very far but the work you have done and the attention you have given this keeping it up to date is truely impressive. Now my problem probably is already answered I browsed about 20 pages until I got bored. I am using the cd version it loads up and I replace cd Snow Leopard begins to load, little spinning icon for a minute or so then it just comes up telling me to restart. I followed the guide I know my motherboard isnt an exact, but I am hoping it is close enough to work Processor i7-920 Motherboard Gigabyte X58A-UD3R Ram 3x 2gb 1600 corsair Video cards 2x bfg tech gtx 260 I am assuming thats enough specs. Whenever you can get to this it will be apprecated. I will continue to troll the pages looking for a similar problem/answer
toyz923
mrjanek I don't suppose you have any idea why my HDD is not showing up in disk utility? quoting my original post: Correct me if i'm wrong, but you're trying to install SL to a 1TB drive, right? The bootloader Kakewalk uses cannot use 1TB size hdd, it has to be a smaller one 750gb, 500gb, etc. I hope you can sort it out.

mike366
Are you making any money in the way of donations? I think you have the best code going, and I don't want to see you quit what you are doing, it has to be a time drain. I think everyone should donate. What is the average donation? I will donate. I think $100.00 per person is fair, or is that too little? If everyone who uses your install program donates $100.00, that would at least be some money for you. Thanks mrjanek, you're the man :-) Here you go my man, don't spend it all in one place :-) This email confirms that you have donated to mrjanek the amount of 73.43 EUR using PayPal. Currency Conversion: $102.54 USD = 73.43 EUR Come on people, you buy expensive hardware, don't be cheap, donate to Mr J. today! He has done a great job. JustinHoMi
mrjanek, thanks. Installing the latest bootloader fixed the sleep issues with the EP45-UD3P. Thanks you! Really? Mrjanek, what other changes were there to account for this? The changes you mentioned previously wouldn't explain sleep suddenly working. Can someone recommend a good sata dvd writer that will work with osx? It appears to not like my ASUS sata dvdrw at all. It sees it can't seem to use it. Also, will the stock mac keyboard and mouse work okay? Sony Optiarc seems to work well.
S3Atze
Hi! i just updated to Kakewalk 2.0 using the EX58A-UD7 selection in the installer on my X58A-UD7 Board. Works so far very nice, but one thing i wonder about is that all harddrive icons are orange now, just like firewire or usb drives but without the usb/firewire symbol inside the icon. how come? Install the that package to your SL partition. Hi! Still the same problem. icons are still orange. another problem came up: shutdown in macos works, the hardware goes off, but after a few seconds the computer starts up again. strange... could that possibly be kakewalk related or is that a problem with my bios? sgunes
The first page only mentions out of the GA X-58A series the UD7 model but not the UD3R and UD5 models. Do those two models work as well as the UD7 or are there any known problems? I just do not want the complexity of water cooling, if I can avoid it. Thanks. soemo
I'm having great success with Kakewalk. My EX-58-UDR3 is working well, but I can't seem to get analogue sound working. I have a digital device showing, but I don't have a digital receiver to test it. I've googled endlessly and only found dead links to kexts. Is there a definitive way to get the audio fully working on 10.6.2 with this motherboard? I think sleep is resetting too, but working in safe mode. Sigh. I thought my motherboard was a ex-58-UDR3 when it was infact a GA-X58A-UDR3. Surprising I got that far.
