bobross
I have it running on my AMD 10.5.8 machine, and I managed to boot into snow leopard on my i5 machine with it, but didn't get it fully running, as I don't intend to keep it in that system. I don't remember exactly what I used to get it running under Leopard, but I'd be happy to grab all the possibly applicable kexts and send them to you (can't do it until Friday though). Pm me if you're interested. As fo doing it under sl, I didn't do anything at all to get it running in vga mode, it just worked albeit with some artifacts. Yeah mine worked great on 10.5.8 too. Can't find any Snow support though, maybe it's a 64-bit issue? I can only get 1024x768 working by default.
maccompaq
mrjanek, have you found a solution for us HD 4850 graphic card users? I really do not need this Core i7 computer for anything but to run the flight simulator X-Plane 9 to keep my pilot skills current. X-Plane 9 runs good on my Core2Duo 2.8 GHz Hackintosh, but if I max out the settings, the computer runs out of power. So I built the Core i7 with an Apple compatible graphics card to give me the extra power. The Core i7 runs in SAFE Mode, but that will not be a satisfactory way to operate. I have upgraded to 10.6.2 and am waiting to benefit from this new beast of a computer. Sleep that does not work is fine with me, because I have never put my computers to sleep. I need LAN, sound and graphics acceleration. Would I be better off installing a Geforce 250 GTS? Would it work out of the box? All suggestions are appreciated. wildchild
Hi everyone! I have been using the Kakewalk method on my EP45-UD3R with a q6600 and a 9400GT 512MB for a couple weeks now with zero problems. The only minor issue I have run into is with torrenting. I'm not sure if this is a kext thing or jsut an OS X thing. I have all my prots forwarded correctly and whatnot. However, I can never seem to get speeds higher than 25 k/b. Anyone else run into this problem?
juniorspades
Need some assistance here, third time asking never got a reply.. Here is the build: GA-P55A-UD4P motherboard i7 860 processor 7950GX2 Graphics 8GB DDR3 memory 1 Dedicated HDD 700W Power Supply I've noted that this board isn't OFFICIALLY supported, but I checked on Gigabytes website and it isn't too different from the Gigabyte P55M-UD2. Since I haven't had any replies I'm going to go ahead and use that board in Kakewalk and see what works and what doesn't. Any replies would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. septicdeath
I can find quite a bit of information about people using dual graphics cards, seems when its not working, it starts with just not having video on one of the cards, and needing nvinject or other methods. My problem seems to be a little different, I get a KP during boot when I have both 8800GT cards in my system. Anyone have any success on dual nvidia cards in a system built with the cakewalk method? specs: EX58-UD5 F10 bios 920 2.66 proc 12gb (6x2) ocz gold pc-16000 memory 80gb Intel SSD pci-x4 4 port firewire card 8800gt 512mb (EVGA) 8800gt 512mb (PNY) no overclocking, no memory tweaks, just default bios plus the changes need to fire up the system. Of course system was built with 1 card in and 2nd card added later. Wont boot without a KP with both cards in. 100% KW install, nothing tweaked, nothing added. Thanks in advance. by the way, doing a verbose boot, the system hangs right after switching to the graphic mode (ie: all the verbose output completes and when the graphics kick in to start, it KP's right then). schaefer.vince
Hey Guys, I've been spending the last few weeks doing research, and mrjanek's guide really looks like the BEST! I am very thankful for the time and effort he and others have put into this! I'm preparing to Build my first Hack... I noticed others (Jonaldo) had used the GA-X58A-UD3R. Im going to be using the same board and GFX. How was the Audio problem solved? Any follow up on this project? Thanks in advance. -Vince

JustinHoMi
Not to say Kakewalk won't work, but have you looked here? http://tonymacx86.blogspot.com/ It looks like a good resource for getting P55 boards working. mike366
Will this work with i-3, using the i-3 chip's on-board video and GIGABYTE GA-P55M-UD2 ? Also, no takers on the sleep issues with EP45-UD3P? Thx in advance
JustinHoMi
I seriously doubt it will work with the i3's onchip video... as far as I know there are no solutions for that.
mwpmo
I got kakewalk to work on my GA-P55M-UD2 with F7 Bios. (w/ 9800GT video card) I cant get the Mac OS X 10.6 installer to work though with the kakwalk boot disc, the machine always reboots when loading the installer DVD. I ended up using tonymacx86 boot cd from: http://tonymacx86.blogspot.com/2009/12/ins...ectly-from.html to install Snow Leopard. Next I rebooted, installed the KakewalkBoot.dmg from the kakewalk cd, and everything is working now. Not sure what the issue is with kakewalk cd and 10.6 installer DVD, but it definately didnt work for me. I got the same problem with you. I never get kakewalk CD work with my new P55M-UD2 w/ F7 bios. (But my EP45-UD3L can install SL with kakewalk CD in less than an hour without any CLI work) But I follow your procedure, I used tonymac86's boot CD to boot up the system, install SL and install the KakewalkBoot.dmg, my P55M-UD2 just keep reboot and never get in SL. Now I need to use tonymac86's boot CD to reinstall SL, install 10.6.2 combo update and use his new ##### programme to install all the "patches" for my P55M-UD2. My Config P55M-UD2 (v1.0) (F7) i5-750 2Gx2 DDR3-1600 9800GT My Steps 1) use tonymac86's boot CD as lonestar2006 to boot and install SL 10.6.0 2) copy 10.6.2 Combo Update & ##### to this computer using USB flash drive (cause the ethernet port is not working in this stage) 3) Apply 10.6.2 Combo Update, do NOT restart 4) Start #####. Install: Chameleon RC4 PC-EFI Audio 888B Realtek Network DSDT for P55M-UD2 (F7) the "unsupported plist" the "iMac plist" tonymac86 Theme 10.6.2 patched kernel fakesmc jmicronATA Showallfiles KextUtility 5) Reboot Finally I got SL work perfectly in my P55M-UD2. ---- 1) Hope other users can use this guide to install SL for P55M-UD2 2) Hope the reboot problem in P55M-UD2 can be fixed in future Kakewalk release I don't know why after several users here said it is not working, P55M-UD2 is still on the compatible list, maybe the problem is the new F7 BIOS itself. (Cause in #####, there is a DSDT file specially for F7 bios) Hope mrjanek can recheck the list or included BIOS version of the board tested (maybe now it just work on F3 bios), cause I just follow this list to buy my new P55M-UD2 after I successfully install SL in my EP45-UD3L using Kakewalk. mrjanek, if you need any assistance to make kakewalk work on P55M-UD2 (F7), please feel free to let me know. Thanks, Luis @ mrjanek ' hundra tusen tack ' ! everthing worked OOB. CooSee ' Ya Mr. Janek Just wanted to thank you for your excellent work. mwpmo
I just wanted to say, after all of the research, reading, pounding my head on the wall trying to get this thing to work, it finally works!!! This guide was the most simple to understand, straight forward guide that anyone who has some computer skills can understand. My hats off to MrJanek who has done this. Everything works!! My dual monitors, internet, sound, everything. But not to say I had a couple of hick-ups the first couple of installs. I will tell you what did and did not fork for me. Oh and my mouse is a little skippy when you go slow, could be batteries or install, dont know yet. First, this is what I have ex58-ud4p mobo with f-10h 3gigs ddr3 1600 corsair ram gtx 260 2 150 gig velociraptors 2 75 gig raptors 1 320 gig wd external I first backed up one of my 74 gig raptors just cause my others are full, put the thumb in, followed bios instructions, got to the format screen, and my raptor drive was not even on the list. WTF! But my 2 150's and 320 hd was. so now I figured Im going to have to use the 320 cause my windows is on the 2 150's. I took apart my external 320 and threw that in the computer and restarted. Sweet now i can format the 320 and install! Did that, got 5 minutes through install, install failed, WTF again! tried it again, same thing. So I unplugged all of my hard drives except my 320, and it failed again. Went into bios and took the profile 1 off on the ram settings(That puts your ram to the stock speed, mine of 1600mhz) and put my ram to about 1066, and install worked!! So I wanted to know what did this, the ram or the hardrives. I plugged everything back and left the ram at 1066 and tried to install everything again. Nothing, it failed again. Unpluged the 75 gig raptor and it worked. Bottom line, for me, this hackintosh thing does not like my 75 gig raptors. Even when I restart the computer, it will not boot back up with a 75 gig raptor plugged in. Works fine everytime with it unplugged. Thought I would share that with anyone who might have this same trouble, but right now I have none at all and love this guide. Gsxrjunky, besides on the problem on raptors, can you tell us more on how to install SL in EX58-UD4P? Anyone else have experience on EX58-UD4P? In the latest version of Kakewalk 1.9.1, I just can found EX58-UD3R, UD5 and UD7, but no UD4P. What board on the list should I try to create the boot CD? mrjanek, any chance to include EX58-UD4P on the list? If you need any assistance, please feel free to let me know. JustinHoMi
I tried this, but it didn't help. In my case, the higher resolutions were available, but the screen turned blue or black after selecting them, and the same thing happened with switchresx. NVEnabler was the only thing I could find that worked. Is this something that's been hardcoded into the DSDT? If the option to turn the VT-x extensions off is grayed out, you can change this setting in the VBoxManage interface. Type the following into the console: vboxmanage modifyvm YourVirtualMachinesName --hwvirtex off The part where you type you virtual machine's name is case sensitive, which caught me out at first. JustinHoMi
Ah thanks, good to know. I ended up manually editing the xml config in ~/Library/Virtualbox/Machines/WindowsXP/, which did the trick. I suppose vboxmanage does exactly the same thing. The thing I wonder, though, is why Virtualbox was detecting my CPU as having VT-x. The guys on the VB forums seemed pretty surprised when I told them. Sounds like some issue here, rather than with virtualbox. Just curious what it is.
