JustinHoMi
I'm having a more serious problem now. I attempted to install a Prolific USB->Serial adapter. After rebooting, the system froze as the Finder came up. I rebooted again and held shift to disable extensions, and got to the Finder and deleted the Profilic kext from /System/Library/Extensions/. Then I rebooted, and once again, I'm getting that empty blue screen, and the sytem is unusable. Any idea what is going on?
VirtualTycoon
Anyone with a ATI 4850 card willing to do a fresh install of Snow Leopard?Need someone to try out the solution for the ATI 4xxx series. I'm willing to test a fresh install of Snow Leopard using an XFX ATI 4850 card. I'm currently attempting to get Kakewalk to work and am running into trouble. Here is my setup: CPU: Intel Quad Core 9550 2.83 GHz MB: Gigabyte EP45-UD3P (BIOS rev. 1.6) RAM: Patriot 4GB DDR2 (2 x 2GB) GFX: XFX ATi Radeon 4850 512MB DDR3 HDD: WDC Black 1TB I burned the KakewalkLegacy.iso to a CD and booted from it - no problems. I have a Flash Drive which I restored (using Disk Utility) from a Snow Leopard image file (.dmg). When I boot (or boot verbose) from the flash drive using the bootloader everything appears to be fine, but when it is complete all I get is a black screen with garbled vertical squiggly lines. I don't get to the part where it asks me what hard drive I'd like to install the Mac operating system on. I think it has to do with my video card, but I could be wrong. I'd like to use your ATi tool which you have included in the Kakewalk Optional folder, but I don't have a Mac to install it on. I was able to use the Disk Utility from another installer (Snow Leopard 10.6.1-10.6.2 Intel AMD made by Hazard ) to restore a Mac image file I have, but that installer is not working for me. Kakewalk is looking much more optimistic. Is there any way to run the ATi tool on a Windows System? Could I run it from the Terminal using an installer? I've tried the command "open ATI.app" at the terminal prompt, but it gave me the error "open: command not found". Please help! I've spent over 2 days trying to get this Hackintosh PC to work. Thanks much. -John
ProjectY
Hi mrjanek I have installed Kakewalk on my new Box The Installation went well and it worked on first Boot. (Thanks) Here it comes __ BUT when i changed the resolution to 1920 x 1080 in System Preferences, Display, the Screen went a nice shade of BLUE and stayed there I then pressed the POWER button on the front of computer and for an instant the screen came up and then went away again (There's More) I pressed the POWER button again and the Machine was back up and running as if nothing had happend..(now in 1920 x 1080) Is there any fix for this Please. If so please point me in the right direction Yours Ray
sirenoremac
Do you have the ATI Radeon XT1950 Pro 512 working? I've been trying forever to get mine working. I have it running on my AMD 10.5.8 machine, and I managed to boot into snow leopard on my i5 machine with it, but didn't get it fully running, as I don't intend to keep it in that system. I don't remember exactly what I used to get it running under Leopard, but I'd be happy to grab all the possibly applicable kexts and send them to you (can't do it until Friday though). Pm me if you're interested. As fo doing it under sl, I didn't do anything at all to get it running in vga mode, it just worked albeit with some artifacts. JustinHoMi
That's the same problem I'm having... except now it is stuck on the blue screen, and I can't get it back to normal. Be careful not to make any other major changes to your installation until the problem is resolved, otherwise you may get stuck like me! I'm trying to figure out what's going on... but I'm new to the hackintosh world, so it's taking some time. Edit: Have you tried using your other VGA/DVI port? I suspect that it is directing video to the wrong port... however I can't find my adapter, so I haven't tried it yet. Thanks much. -John Nevermind mrjanek - I got it working! Here is what I did to install Snow Leopard without touching a Mac. This will work if you unplug everything but the monitor/keyboard/mouse (you can plug everything else back in after the install) and if you have a similar setup to this: CPU: Intel Quad Core 9550 2.83 GHz MB: Gigabyte EP45-UD3P (BIOS rev. 1.6) RAM: Patriot 4GB DDR2 (2 x 2GB) GFX: XFX ATi Radeon 4850 512MB DDR3 HDD: WDC Black 1TB download the "Snow Leopard 10.6.1-10.6.2 Intel AMD made by Hazard" torrent file found at your favorite torrents site (torrentz.com). Burn the iso file to a DVD and boot from it. When the installer asks you what drive you want to use, there most likely will not be any listed. At the top of the screen, click on Utilities -> Disk Utilities. On the left there will be listed the new hard drive you just bought (or had lying around). Partition it using the format Mac OS X (Journaled). Exit the Disk Utility program and the drive will be listed - select that drive to install the OS. On the next screen, before you click the install button click the Customize button. Select the following options: Snow Leopard 10.6.2 Combo Update ATI 48x0 Injectors (under Graphics) ALC8889a (under Sound) Burn the KakewalkLegacy.iso file provided at this site by mrjanek to CD. Restart the PC and boot from that CD. Use the arrow keys on the dialog that pops up to select the Hard Drive you installed Snow Leopard to. If all goes well you will be greeted with flying "Welcome" letters - and that means you will have a Hackintosh PC. Click on the KakeWalk CD on the sidebar and double click the KakewalkBoot file. Follow the easy to use screens there and you are finished. Thanks to mrjanek for providing the bootloader software that made this possible. It wasn't as easy as a kakewalk, but it's the only bootloader that worked for me after more than 48 hours of trying. P.S. I did have a problem with the sound. It's not working as of yet. But if you plug in a USB headset and change the System Preferences -> sound to point to it, you will get decent stereo sound. When I get the rear input jacks and the 5.1 speaker set I have working, I will post the solution.

Hey Joe, mrjanek's method is not a distro. It is a Vanilla install with each person using their own Snow Leopard DVD purchased from Apple. Just wanted you to know the method being used is more honorable than a distro. I have had very good experience with Gigabyte. What soured you on them? upperdeck
Just created my first hackintosh using this method, its up and running and working quite well. When I first tried installing I kept getting a KP when it started to install. I switched my RAM around (was 1&3, moved to 2&4 or vice versa) and everything went smooth. Now to a few smaller questions: 1: Does this method allow you to OC your CPU in Bios? Whenever I try to overclock it fails to boot, but I'm not sure if thats due to my 400W PSU or something else? 2: I actually built this system to give it a try but really want to build a i7 rig with the Gigabyte UD5 - how has the success rate been with this board and a i7 920 (and overclocking). 3: I'm missing the AppleLPC.kext, do I need to install this for power/heat purposes? What exactly will it do for me. 4: There is a link for a updated bootloader in the first post...how is this different compared to what I have installed from last night? Thanks everyone! upperdeck
which board do I choose from the drop down menu to create a bootable disc for my ASUS p5lp-le board? I'm pretty sure these are only for Gigabyte boards (and one MSI)...otherwise there would be an option to choose the ASUS board.

I have no problem overclocking. I have had my cpu at 3.8ghz and ram at 2000mhz with cheap corsair ram. But i would have to say, my hackintosh does not like my ram much above 1650 mhz. Gets a little wacky. So i have been leaving it around 3.2 and 1600 just so its rock solid. It would probably be more stable if I tweeked the voltages, but really dont care enough to mess with that now. Iam just to damn excited to finally have a hackintosh!!! And yes, it could be that wimpy psu you have, but i dont think so. Probably just your cpu to ram multiplier. Leave your ram fixed at stock speed and bump your cpu up. crtz
yesterday I managed to get kakewalk installed and worked perfectly thankyou One problem I am experiencing though is that at first my magic mouse was working fine (although without the magic features) so I updated the software to 10.6.2. It is now recognised as a magic mouse, however it is very glitchy in movement it just stops every now and then for a few seconds and is unresponsive then goes back to being fine. I am using a generic bluetooth dongle system profiler shows it as 'Cambridge Silicon Radio' I have repaired the disk permissions but this makes no difference only causes kernel screen next time i restart . I have tried pairing the mouse up again and again but it stays the same. Does anybody have any advice as to what i could try to fix this glitchyness? mike366
I did a usb install to a Gigabyte EP45-UD3P, no problems on install. The issue I have is sleep. On wake from sleep, once I start using the mac, it panics and locks up. I then have to re-boot. Any ideas? Actually, now sometimes it won't even come out of sleep correctly, then I have to reset and re-boot. Any thoughts?

I have to mention that the problem in my opinion is dongle related. I have 3 hacks and it only does it with one dongle. The problem issimilar to yours, it slow down a tad for 2 or 3 secs. thedarkhorse
Any way to get sleep working properly? With my x58-ud3r when it goes to "sleep" it abruptly shuts the computer off, waking it up with the mouse does turn it back on, but it boots up, not wakes up. I tried installing that sleepenabler for 10.6.2 kext (first time installing a kext, used kexthelper), but nothing changed.
JustinHoMi
I finally got video to work with my Sparkle 9500GT 1GB. I think QE/CL are working. I had tried using EFI strings to no avail. Finally I downloaded NVEnabler from http://www.kexts.com/view/118-snow_leopard_nvenabler.html. To use it, dump it in /Extra/Extensions or /System/Library/Extensions. Then in the terminal type "sudo touch /System/Library/Extensions". Now go to /Extra/Extensions/com.apple.Boot.plist and change GraphicsEnabler to No.
