This honestly couldn't have been any easier. Definitely the best way to get a Hackintosh install a Hackintosh today. I also managed to get a dualboot with Windows 7 up and running using a MBR partition table, although I ran into some difficulties there.

Using a computer with these specs and just did a regular install.

Gigabyte EP45-UD3LR

Intel Core 2 Duo E8400

4GB DDR2 PC8500

XFX ATI Radeon 4890 1GB

I got the ATI-card running using netkas exotic qe/ci package and GraphicsEnabler, does your ATI-fix work similarly or does it do something else?

DSDT with a swinging mood... Is this normal or do I need a doctor?

I know no one noticed my last post but my case is getting more and more interesting. Today in the morning I had no DSDT: snow leopard booted without onboard sound and without full VGA support. But... tonight I turned my hack on and voila! DSTD working great again. QE/CI/OpenCL, onboard sound, everything. Is this recurrence normal or my Hack PC has a swinging mood? For the convenience of anyone interested in my story, I quote again myself below:

My success story collapsed!!!

After 4-5 days of a fully working SL, today I booted and had no sound and QE/CI (only 1024X768). It seems that the extensions from the extra folder are overriden voluntarily. However I have not touched the bootloader nor have I made any changes to SL in the last days. Anyone familiar with that? Should I reinstall Chameleon and DSDT?

Here is my (not-any-more) success story:

QUOTE
mrjanek you are genious! Thanx a million!

A success story for EP45C-DS3 users (not officially supported by the guide).

I followed your guide precisely and on Kakewalk install I chose Gigabyte EP45-UD3P, which has very close specs to my mobo. I installed, crossing my fingers, and after 25 minutes I saw on my screen... Install Failed!

Out of pure curiosity I ignored that and restarted, which proved very wise, because my Hackintosh booted into a wonderful and very stable Vanilla SL, with working sound, fully working VGA (MSI GTS250 1 GB). I updated to 1.6.2 with no problems so far.

Probably a dumb question, but how I boot into 32-bit mode?

I have no idea if Neo Player itself can run with 64-bit kernel but install package checks that you are using an Intel CPU by checking that hw.machine string is i386. When using 64-bit kernel that string is x86_64. Just boot using 32-bit kernel and install, next time boot with 64-bit kernel and check if program works with that.

Assuming that you are using Asere's booter then you type arch=i386 when Chameleon shows boot partition selection. If you want to use that option permanently then you add that as Kernel flag option in com.apple.Boot.plist. Easy way to check which mode you are running is to type sysctl hw.machine in Terminal, i386=32-bit kernel, x86_64=64-bit kernel.

Well following the usb thumb drive instructions all went off without a hitch so far, I was happy that my 2 DVI monitors were instantly recognized and set up perfectly(and were still perfect after the 4870 driver install).

Sound wasn't working at first but I just had to change the output to internal speakers, tomorrow I'm gonna see if the digital outs work(coax or optical) so I can get 5.1 in VLC watching HD MKVs. Hopefully coax since the 1 optical on my z5500's is used by my xbox.

Is there some sort of bootscreen I can install that allows me to select which OS to load? I already had Win7 installed on my other internal hard drive.

Core i7

EX58-UD3R

6GB G.Skill DDR3

xfx4870 1gb

2X1TB (1 for OSX - 1 for Win7)

Gigabit Ethernet on EP45-DS3L is not working for me. Seems to only go up to 100 Mb/s when I transfer through my LAN. I'm running 10.6.2.

I tried searching this topic, but the search seems broken. Is anybody else having this same problem? Is there a fix?

I'm preparing for a Kakewalk installation. I don't have access to a Mac, and I have Snow Leopard on a dvd img.

Can I restore the dvd img to a thumb drive, and then boot from the CD/DVD Kakewalk iso, followed by installing Snow Leopard from the thumb drive?

Restore the dvd .dmg file to a thumbdrive using TransMac in Windows. Then just boot the computer using the Kakewalk .iso with the thumbdrive plugged in. After that you just select the USB-drive in the booter and you're good to go.

This is vanilla. Every compatible motherboard comes with its own DSDT and Kexts.

How does your ATI-fix work? Is it similar to netkas exotic qe/ci package or does it work in a completely different way?

Exactly the same made easier to use. The app figures out your current version of Snow Leopard and installs the appropriate fix.

What did you do to get your graphics card recognized? Mine is giving me fits.

My bootscreen gives me a choice of which OS to use on each HD. My other 2 Hackintosh computers have the HD formated as MBR, and I have a bootscreen set up to choose which OS to boot from which partition on a single HD.

I would like to know if you have in mind, or in your "to do" list, a solution for those 10 Celsius degrees in excess that users of EX58-UD5 + i7 are experimenting. At least, is what iStat is saying.

The thing is that there is no elegant solution to this problem. If I use the known fix, namely adding NullCPUPowerManagement.kext then the Sleep functionality breaks. I also prefer to use as few kexts as possible to keep it clean.

Just as a matter of information, with the dsdt included in your bootloader, my sl installation only see one core on my i7 920, using a ex58-ud3r. How can I work it out to gain all the cores, wich I believe is 8?

Thanks.

ps: I will donate for this to work, to thank you for your help.

Hello all,

Back again. I'm starting a new Build since the last was so successful.

Quick question. I have a P55A-UD4P motherboard. I checked gigabytes website and saw that there were minimal differences between the P55M-UD2.

Will the Kakewalk install still work? Thanks in advance...

What install would be the best for my Gigabyte EP45-DS3R? I figured it would be the Gigabyte EP45-DS3L, but the sound won't work. Is another supported model closer spec.?

Then again if someone could baby feed how to get my Realtek ALC889A and ATI x1950 Pro working that would solve all my problems

SOOO CLOSE...

Thanks,

BR

Your 889A won't work because despite the name of the models being almost identical, they don't share the same chip. Ep45-DS3R has ALC889A but EP456-DS3L has ALC888. I had partial success with my board which comes with an ALC889A also, by choosing EP45-UD3P upon installation (same sound chip). I had sound and video, but my install is unstable and I will retry.

Step 1. Read the first page, or the title of the thread, and see if your motherboard and graphics are supported

Step 2. ??

Step 3. Profit.

Other than the wrong motherboard manufacture, chipset, graphics, sound, and network adapter, I think you're fine.
