Anyone else think Kakewalk should have it's own forum section? Its becoming hard getting answers out of one giant thread....

If the Search Topic field at the bottom of any IM topic page worked, it would make using InsanelyMac Forums much easier! The Google field at the top cannot be specific for this Kakewalk or any other topic, so one pours through hundreds of unrelated posts hoping for a relevant inquiry.

True but sometimes I'm not sure if my questions are being overlooked or just plain ignored. Stuff piles on this thread so fast I don't want to keep asking and seem like a bother - especially with seemingly minor problems. At least with each question being its own post things would be a little more clear.

I agree. I am such a novice at this, and I have needed help on many issues only to find I would be on my own. I try to answer questions others have when relevant to my own equipment, but most often I don't have a clue how to answer folks with such varied problems. Perhaps we need a moderator or a resident genius/geek. In the end, I think it best for people to inquire in the Post-Installation Discussion here at InsanelyMac.

Do you have sound working? I have a EP45-DS3R (using Realtek ALC889A) and I get no Audio hardware at all in preferences.

Sorry for the late reply, yes I have audio. Haven't checked all the outs though, because I record audio and I have professional sound cards. So all I ask from the onboard chip is a working stereo out, once that is achieved I quit trying (lazy one I guess). It's a bit strange that you don't have sound. In case you dual boot, check if a second bootloader interferes somewhere on boot-up (happened to me once). Also check if older kexts conflict with LecagyHDA, the one in the extra folder.

My success story collapsed!!!

After 4-5 days of a fully working SL, today I booted and had no sound and QE/CI (only 1024X768). It seems that the extensions from the extra folder are overriden voluntarily. However I have not touched the bootloader nor have I made any changes to SL in the last days. Anyone familiar with that? Should I reinstall Chameleon and DSDT?

Here is my (not-any-more) success story:

mrjanek you are genious! Thanx a million!

A success story for EP45C-DS3 users (not officially supported by the guide).

I followed your guide precisely and on Kakewalk install I chose Gigabyte EP45-UD3P, which has very close specs to my mobo. I installed, crossing my fingers, and after 25 minutes I saw on my screen... Install Failed!

Out of pure curiosity I ignored that and restarted, which proved very wise, because my Hackintosh booted into a wonderful and very stable Vanilla SL, with working sound, fully working VGA (MSI GTS250 1 GB). I updated to 1.6.2 with no problems so far.

My specs (Machine recognized as MacPro3.1):

Gigabyte EP45C-DS3 (recognized as Xeon 2,67)

Intel Q9550

2X2 GB Corsair XMS2 DDR2@800

MSI GTS250 1GB

various hdds

Thanks again!!!

P.S. Gigabyte users experiment, my guess is that even more mobos are supported.

What version of the Chameleon bootloader have you got on the Kakewalk app, mrjanek?

Chameleon RC3 has fixed 1TB addressing issues. Is it possible to update it?

The bootloader provided with Kakewalk is called AsereBLN Booter. It's based of the sources from Chameleon RC4, which means this fix should be included (if the fix actually works)

I did the standard install of Kakewalk. From looking at "About this Mac" under software it looks like I am running the 64-bit kernel and extensions. Is Neo Player not supported in 64-bit mode?

I have no idea if Neo Player itself can run with 64-bit kernel but install package checks that you are using an Intel CPU by checking that hw.machine string is i386. When using 64-bit kernel that string is x86_64. Just boot using 32-bit kernel and install, next time boot with 64-bit kernel and check if program works with that.

I've added a folder called "Optional" to the Kakewalk packages. In this folder you'll find a tool for ATI users that enables 48xxx cards in Snow Leopard. The changelog has also been moved to this folder.

It would be great if I could get some feedback on this ATI tool to see what's working for you and what isn't.

Some feedback on KakewalkCD and it's ISO creator would also be greatly appreciated as I haven't seen much of that (though that could be an indication of its success ;))

No wonder I couldn't find anything about that file in this thread. :D

I have a HIS ATi Radeon 4850 IceQ4 with a DVI-VGA adapter (old lcd monitor). At Installation (USB), Kakewalk starts up fine but after a while from the Apple logo with the spinny thing below, some black artifacts appear and eventually go away. Then the whole thing just freezes. Same thing with verbose mode, except it artifacts the whole screen with white funky lines.

More info about my setup:

Q9400

EP45-UD3R

WD 640GB

The lifehacker method worked at first, but I accidently reformatted the drive and had to start over. So I decided to try Kakewalk. ;)

A little update: I've managed to install SL via safe mode (-x). But artifacts still appear when I boot normally, and it freezes completely afterwards still, although safe mode boots up fine and dandy. But even after the ATi 48xx enabler was installed, the problem persisted. Okay, now safe mode with the ATi enabler works, but only with one display port, full resolution. I'm attempting to update to 10.6.2.

Safe mode 10.6.2 + ATi enabler works. But only one resolution is selectable (1024 x 768). No audio what-so-ever, nothing to select in "Output Devices". Chess extremely slow, seems like OpenCL isn't working.

Normal mode still has the artifacts showing up and freezing.

Help, please?

Thanks in advanced!

Just curious, I was running a 4870 simply by removing the 8800gt that the system was built with late last week, and installed it.I didn't need to add anything or do anything, it just worked 1920x1200 QE/CI, were these pulled from the older install where they were default or are these updated for the 4890?

I used your latest software, and did a reformat of the thumb drive and reinstalled Snow Leopard with the new software. It was only possible to boot in SAFE Mode. Upon rebooting, I got a floating box with the message "out of range".

Copy all the information regarding your graphics card from System Profiler and post it here please.

Also, worth mentioning.. If you upgrade your OS (say from 10.6.0 to 10.6.2) you have to rerun and install the ATI fix.
