Pepechuelo,

We have very similar equipment and I have successfully made an internal drive bootable clone of SL with CCC. Please see my post here:

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...t&p=1403421

Since I wrote this I have removed the cloned HDD and installed it internally. With my BIOS set up as noted, I now do not press F12 at POST and instead wait for the Darwin Chameleon prompt "press any key." It sees my drives and allows me to select either SL installation. I still use F12 when I want to dual boot into my Windows 7 HDD.

Good luck!

Dear trwoolley.

Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou!

The solution was in front of me and because of my ingnorance I was enable to solve the dual same system boot.

Yes. After clone my main bootup disk into a backup one, rebooting and pressing F12, choosing the correct SCSI disk address (the 3rd in my case) the booting process continue as a charm but from my backup disk.

I have no idea of the F12 possibilities.

Now I feel that I can resist and fight with more options any hypothetical system problem.

Thanks again and thanks also to everdone and ilia.

Anyone?

If the search worked on this forum, I probably wouldn't have to ask this, so I apologize in advance:

I currently have everything set up near perfectly, with a P45-UD3P and an 8800GT. If I swapped my graphics card to an ATI 5770, A) would it work at all, and ;) would I have to completely reformat and reinstall OSX, or is there a driver package I could install? I wouldn't mind terribly if I was forced to reformat, however I do want to make sure the card is compatible first.

I am so thrilled that I was able to help you, Pepechuelo! I myself had trouble finding anyone in InsanelyMac Forums with a solution that worked for my particular setup, so I more or less had to experiment on my own.

Your success makes the effort to help others so worthwhile.

New motherboard installed (EP45-UD3LR), and currently installing Snowy on a new 2tb drive (pre-partitioned in Windows so none of the partitions were over 1tb in size). Kakewalk has worked without a hitch so far. Around 15% installed so far.

I've disconnected all dvd/cd drives and hard drives that I'm not using - if all goes well, I'll reconnect them one by one, re-install Windows on its own drive and start transferring data :D

Quite excited (slightly prematurely, though, I might add). Thanks for this, Mr Janek - you're truely a talented individual. Once it's up and running, some monies will be sent.

Well...

It works. Absolutely fully functional - internet (on-board ethernet), sound (on-board, but going to try installing the drivers for my M-Audio Fast Track Ultra), graphics (8800GT XXX)...erm, and other stuff too.

I'm well impressed. Mr Janek, you're being sent some money as a thank you. Big thank you!

M-Audio Fast Track Ultra is installed and being used as my main sound device - can't see any problems with it yet. All 8 channels are recognised and working. Still amazed!

Still waiting on a few more pieces, then ITS ON. Going to use this guide as everyone has had really good luck with it.

My question.

If I choose to go with the x58a ud5 board, which do I pick in the Kakewalk DMG. Looks like the x58a ud7 is the closest match, so I just wanted to make sure this would work with my board.

Are there any other kexts i need to get rid of or add to make everything functional. (sleep, audio, wake, etc)

Thanks to all that have helped me already....

mrjanek you are genious! Thanx a million!

A success story for EP45C-DS3 users (not officially supported by the guide).

I followed your guide precisely and on Kakewalk install I chose Gigabyte EP45-UD3P, which has very close specs to my mobo. I installed, crossing my fingers, and after 25 minutes I saw on my screen... Install Failed!

Out of pure curiosity I ignored that and restarted, which proved very wise, because my Hackintosh booted into a wonderful and very stable Vanilla SL, with working sound, fully working VGA (MSI GTS250 1 GB). I updated to 1.6.2 with no problems so far.

My specs (Machine recognized as MacPro3.1):

Gigabyte EP45C-DS3 (recognized as Xeon 2,67)

Intel Q9550

2X2 GB Corsair XMS2 DDR2@800

MSI GTS250 1GB

various hdds

Thanks again!!!

P.S. Gigabyte users experiment, my guess is that even more mobos are supported.

Do you have sound working? I have a EP45-DS3R (using Realtek ALC889A) and I get no Audio hardware at all in preferences.

None of the ATI 5xxx series graphics cards work I'm afraid. There's currently no Mac with any of them.

Can I do anything to forward ATI x1950 Pro development? Was working under 10.5.x, but not Snow. I'm stuck at 1024x768 as my only option.

Hello, I'm very, very new to the wonderful world of hackintoshing, and I want to make sure that Kakewalk will work for the system I have planned before I order the parts. I see that the motherboard I plan on using (GIGABYTE GA-EX58-UD5) is compatible, but I want to make sure the rest of the parts I plan on using are as well.

Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-EX58-UD5

CPU: Intel Core i7-920 Bloomfield 2.66GHz

RAM: OCZ Gold 6GB (3 x 2GB) DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) OCZ3G1600LV6GK

Graphics: ASUS EN9500GT/DI/1GD2/V2/A GeForce 9500 GT 1GB

Wireless card: NETGEAR WN311B PCI Wireless Adapter

All these components would be compatible with Snow Leopard installed using Kakewalk, correct?

Sorry if I'm not asking in the wrong place, and thanks so much for all of your hard work to make this possible.

Good to hear that it worked out :)

Thanks a lot for your donation!

Also a big thanks to everyone for supporting this project!

Hi MHW,

Welcome to the place where Snow Leopard dreams come alive!

Of course your MOBO, CPU, and DRAM are exactly the same as mine - I can just about guarantee all will work very, very well with Kakewalk.

Your graphics should work, but as it has three various ports, HDMI, DVI, and D-SUB (VGA) you might have to fiddle a bit more than if you select a GPU with two DVI ports and perhaps a HDTV/S-Video Out like my video card below which also came with a DVI to VGA adapter. The reason for this is because late model Intel Apple desktops have only two DVI, no HDMI. Others may be able to attest to their success with this ASUS card.

These are the wireless adapter cards that are known to work - perhaps your selection will work as well:

Wireless Asus WL-138G V2 PCI Card

Wireless D-Link DWA-556 PCI Card

Wireless Dynex DX-BGDTC PCI Card

Also the Newer Tech 802.11g-b Wireless USB Stick is available from OWC for about $20 and will work fine.

Confusing, isn't it? Buy the questionable items from Newegg or Amazon with reasonable 30 day return policies if necessary.

Good luck, and again welcome to the Kakewalk simple life club.

Thanks a lot for the speedy response!

I'm going to try the D-Link DWA-556 wireless card instead of the Netgear card. I thought I remembered reading that the Netgear card was hackintoshable, but I'd rather be safe then sorry. Besides, the D-Link card is a bit cheaper on Newegg. ;)

Is there a similar GPU you would suggest that might be more easily compatible with Snow Leopard? I'll freely admit that I don't know as much as I probably should about graphics cards - they're a bit confusing.

Once again, thanks so much for your help!

I found some software that will not install on my Kakewalk install. The software refuses to install because it requires an Intel Mac. I am running a EP45-UD3R with a Intel Core 2 duo. Anyone know how to fix things so I can successfully install the software?

The software giving me problems is Neo Player. Neo Player is a free CineForm decoder that works with iMovie and Final Cut. You can get the free software by searching google for Neo Player.

Thanks for the help.

hello

first, congratulation for your installer, seems great !

plus you added some work to make it available for several mobo, pretty cool.

this installer might end as a reference if you continue this way (i hope !)

i've tried it on one config i have, using the EP45-UD3R package, on a EP45-UD3 mobo, there are almost indentical

everything worked fine, except the sleep but bonjour and stuff are working.

I've dropped 20€ couple days ago on your account to encourage you and thank you for the work you've done

In fact i have 3xEP45-UD3 mobo, 1x EP45-UD3LR and 1xP35. all running 10.6 now

I want to reformat all my drives using your installer, at least 4 systems, and it would be very cool if you could add a EP45-UD3 installer. I can drop another 20 if you do :wallbash: I have a EP45-UD3 test machine available so i can test stuff if you want.

thanks again for this great installer ! keep the good work ! :))

I have the same board. Actually 2 of that board.

Q1. The ex58-UD5 does not sleep well. I have tried many things. Nothing works. Solution = Don’t sleep it. My P55A-UD3 sleeps perfectly though.

Q2. After fresh boot and network prefs show new network prefs about your dongle, hit the apply button at bottom, you might have to do this a couple times. If after a couple times it doesn’t work, in network prefs delete the dongle from the list in the left pane. I am assuming you have a different network device to connect to the internet. Don’t delete it just delete the one/s associated to the dongle. I had a similar problem with a different kind of dongle and it eventually stopped adding new device on startup.

Q3. I would also like to know how to change the CPU info. I tried to use the ex58 install script tool one time but the results were less than satisfactory.

I hope that helps

Powel

Thanks for the info Powel! I got rid of the bluetooth error and that is nice. I will take your advice and not put this puppy to sleep until a bettero workaround for this board comes out (I hope). Now its just the smaller issue of getting the proper CPU to show up in "About this Mac". Minor I know, but I want to have the oooohhhh ahhhhh factor of it showing this beastly i7. I guess if I can't its fine but it would be nice.

Anyone else out there have thoughts on this?
