mikedddd
I've tried with Kakewalk on the P55A-UD3 and it just reboots when trying to load the Snow Leopard disc. I was able to get SL installed via tonymacx86-P55BootCD.iso , however I had difficulty getting my graphics card to work correctly. I was hoping kakewalk would be better, but no dice. Did you try running the Kakewalk bootloader installer on your previously-installed tonymac system?
mrjanek
I've tried with Kakewalk on the P55A-UD3 and it just reboots when trying to load the Snow Leopard disc. Compatibiity with P55, X58 and KakewalkCD is not great. I have a solution for this in the works which is a small app that creates an ISO specific to the motherboard you pick. In the meantime I suggest using the USB method.
waynegretzky
Hi there, I'm having some issues, maybe you can give me some advice: I'm installing on a EP45-UD3R, Q6600 stock at 2.4, 8gb DDR2-800. Bios is F9. Video card is an NVidia 9400GT PCI-e I am using the USB install method. I've followed the instructions and created the key and installed Kakewalk with the UD3R option checked. The key boots to chameleon and the kernel, but when it gets to initializing graphics the computer seems to lock up. I've tried switching the DVI adapter between DVI ports on the back, but neither produces any video output. My suspicion is that at this point the entire computer locks up because the light on the USB key stats to flash as if it were ejected. I'm at a bit of a loss. I've previously installed 10.6 on this machine with a more convoluted method, but I'd love to get this working if possible. Thanks! Edit: So I took the video device property string from my working com.apple.boot.plist file and placed it into the c.a.b.p file on the usb stick, removed the GraphicsEnabler string and it booted up no problem. Looks like there was some incompatibility between my 9400GT and graphicsenabler.
kevin36thi
Everything seems to be working fine but it seems that I can't overclock my CPU. When I overclock my CPU it hangs on the loading screen when I boot up. The overclock is stable as it boots into Windows 7 and I've also ran a stress test. The only overclock I've managed to achieve on a E6600 is 3.33GHz whereas I'm able to reach 3.5GHz-3.6GHz in Windows...but it OSX...it just hangs. Of course, I wouldn't be able to anyway, since I have no desire to push my Intel i7 beyond spec until the heat issue is solved. With the current status quo of this boot method, my 4 cores run at an ambient temp of 41-45°C (50-55° under moderate stress). When I boot into Windows 7, the temps are 35-39°C at idle. Perhaps when I learn how to do a safe and stable OC I'll need your advice! Good luck.
Terry32
Just wanted to report a successful install on my GA-X58A-UD7 using the USB method and also to post a question. I have Snow Leopard installed on its own hard drive and it works great, I have Windows 7 installed on its own drive and it works great also, I am wondering what is the easiest way to dual boot, right now I just change the boot order in the bios. I tried EasyBCD in windows to use the Windows 7 bootloader and didn't have much luck getting OSX to startup. For all the GA-X58A-UD7 users out there, if your network and sound don't work and you used the CD method try the USB method, that got my network working and sound started working after updating to 10.6.2 using the Apple Update. Thanks for the hard work. -Terry

See this thread for my successful dual boot on a GA-EX58-UD5: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=160695 Thanks, never thought of doing that, I guess it will work, just a pain if you have to identical drives as they will look similar in the boot list, will have to try it in a bit. hondafanboy
@Terry I don't know if that link helped you much. But I use to have the same setup as you (now I dual boot on the same drive, used GPTsync) All I did is set the OSX drive to boot first in the bios; and The Windows Partions showed up in the boot loader. It's just that it seems that when I overclock any more and try booting to OSX it just hangs straight after Chameleon, the loading screen. Does it have anything to do with AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext or anything that Apple is doing to stop non officially supported Intel processors to run OSX? Much help appreciated. Good thing drives are cheap these days! :-D John
flynreelow
I am wondering where all of the other Kexts for the install. I see a few in the extra folder, but what about the others? By others, I have been reading Cindoris posts about Do we need all of these, or do these come "pre loaded" when we select which gigabyte motherboard? mrjanek
This tool lets you create an ISO image for your motherboard. For Windows users: The previous ISO image (now called KakewalkLegacy.iso) is in the package as well. Compatability using the CD method should now be on par with the USB one. Direct download I am wondering where all of the other Kexts for the install. I see a few in the extra folder, but what about the others? Those are the only ones that are necessary. You just haven't read this thread very thoroughly. Those of us who have followed the guidelines have no trouble with sleep\wake. Whatever method you choose, you must follow it carefully. You quote Cindori above. You may choose the excellent method Cindori uses, but a bit more effort will be required by the user. Become a student, and someday you may become a master. zeigerpuppy
I get KP's as well, mostly when using Java. I have 2x2gb of ram, i took one out and didnt get one for about 5 days, figured that was the issue until i got one.. so now im running 2x2 again, just not in ddr. I notice my KP's are when im using Java in a internet browser. I think I resolved my random reboots, I noticed that shutting down a virtual machine seemed to be a major trigger, which made me think (rightly or wrongly) that cpu settings may have been to blame. I had a look at this post: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...9760&st=20# by jamzmar and implemented the same bios settings, I think that the c3/c6/c7 state support may have been the cause of my random crashes, anyway I disabled it and haven't had a crash since, (about 3 days but a fair amount of time spent sleeping). I think it is almost time to try overclocking now.... ps. also installed pleasesleep as some programs were preventing sleep, works really well http://www.dragonone.com/products/macosx/pleasesleep/ Thanks again to the community, please pm me if I can be of assistance with problems (especially ud7a)
qwark
@Mrjanek Again thank you very much for all the fine work you did - sure loads of people - like myself - who are not so handy in digging under the hood are totally blown away with this.... just wondering if it is possible to get this fine approach to SL going on a: GA EP45 - DQ6 (Bios F13) Q9550 Geforce 8800 GS Kingston 8GB - DDR2 SDRAM What would be an option to tick "on" - if any - for the KakewalkBoot.pkg to get an already installed 10.6.2 (booting off an commercial EFIx USB Dongle for now) to work? - (would be so great to get rid of the dongle and the headaches (sata, sleep, restart, networking...) that come with it) Any suggestions to the hardware above and how to get this working your "minimal effort" way? Would this board be a candidate to be supported permanently? Anyways thank you again for all your wizardry, witness and help
rabbit74
Hi, do any of you know if the Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD3 works ok with the Kakewalk method? My solution to the UD3 problem I installed using Kakewalk on a different board, (ex58-EXTREMe). After install i pulled the drive and stuck it into the p55-UD3 board. After booting i swapped the DSDT.aml to the correct one for the UD3. then used standard APPLEHDA.kext and HDAEnabler.kext in /system/extension/ and /extra/ to solve the lack of sound. Then everything was golden. Worth noting, The p55 is actually faster than my x58, which is really surprising because the p55 was much cheaper. I hope that helps P. Compatibiity with P55, X58 and KakewalkCD is not great. I have a solution for this in the works which is a small app that creates an ISO specific to the motherboard you pick. In the meantime I suggest using the USB method. the USB method also did not work for me on the p55A-UD3. I solved this by following the method mentioned in post 1274 of this thread. P. johnaldo
I was never successful in getting the 4850 to work BUT I never tried it with Kakewalk. I got frustrated with the 4850 failures so I went out and got a PNY Geforce 9800GT from Best Buy (had gift cards, that influenced the decision)... it works OOTB with Kakewalk. I will use the 4850 in another build I guess. Does anyone know if the Geforce 9800 or Geforce 250 work out of the box with this method?I am having no luck getting my ati Radeon HD 4850 to to work.
