I have tried all the other methods and get different errors and just will not boot up to SL, i LCD tried the retail install method and get a socket error.

Have you got anywhere with this? It's very irritating eh mate? I'm running OCZ memory 6gb and have taken out my network card and bt module just using a kb/mouse. Have tried cindoris method as well. Been working on this for 2 days now and this is my first hackintosh build and hopefully it's the end of it!

G'day Mate, yeah...has been pretty frustrating here, but I think we might be getting somewhere. After PM'ing a champion forum member, I was basically able to ascertain that our HD4850's are slightly painful. Therefore, I used mrjaneks method in safemode, and successfully installed SL. In all honesty, i'm pretty tired at the moment, so I haven't gotten much further than that; i'll begin hunting for reliable ATI Kext's tomorrow and will keep you in the loop. Thanks to all those who have lent valuable assistance thus far- Cheers NC

system extension "/system/library/extensions/realtekR1000SL.kext" was installed improperly and can not be used.

I'm unfortunately running into this issue too. Tried it several times both off the USB/floppy. Pretty sure I didn't miss anything in the bios (had this machine working with 10.5 a few months back before I switched back to windows)

I also tried the EX58 package from the UD5 guide in the tutorials forum (http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=185097) and had similar results. Everything else seems to work fine out of the box! Thanks for the great work... and I'd appreciate any ideas about the lan!

Thanks!

Hi everybody, my first post here,

what do you think about this configuration? Do I need a video card, or is it going to be ok with the integrated one? I'll use a 24'' monitor, but only work with audio, I won't play games on it...

Hardware.jpg

Thank you!

If I had to do it all from scratch i would buy

cpu-i5.660-3.33Ghz

ram-6G-1333

MB GA-P55M-UD2

HD-1T-seagate or WD

Seperate boot drive 120G is enough

video- nVidia 9800

The cost is a little higher on the front end but the power, performance, logevity and sheer joy of using this machine is well worth the extra.

Any chance of updating your installers to include a GA-P35-DS3R board? I have everything instailled already including the latest Chameleon RC4 installer package with all the fixes. but I really need EFI32 but I'm always booting as EFI64. I'm using arch=i386 in the apple.Boot.plist kernal flags & it is saying 'No' in the 'More Info' System software 64 bit kernel & extensions... but I'm still getting EFI64 when I run this 'ioreg -l -p IODeviceTree | grep firmware-abi' in the terminal.

Problem is that I need an EFI32 to run Pro Tools 8.0.3 otherwise the program runs eratically as it's not 64bit compatible... anyone help?

Powel, I think you are right. When I first thought to build my own Hackintosh I lusted after the ATI 4850, 4870, or even the 4890 that sharper guys than me managed to hack for their builds. I was first in awe of Cindori, Digital Dreamer, and many others but knew I couldn't handle the disappointment, frustration, and economics of failure. The new iMac 27" i5/i7 beauties came out about that time with the ATI 4850 but there was no way I afford one of those. Then the graphics on those iMacs started to cause buyers severe trouble as documented in the Apple Discussion Forums - I am so glad I chose the nVidia 9800 GT! I also made sure I bought a version with two DVI connectors without HDMI or VGA.

Since I built my machine specifically for Snow Leopard, not any version of Windows, I spent many long hours in a lot of forums learning what works out of the box and what doesn't. At first I was going to follow the brilliant Stellarola's LifeHacker system, but I wanted the future-proofing and performance of the latest Intel Processors.

Then I stumbled into this GigabyteOSX thread by mrjanek. When he added the EX58-UD5 to his support list, that was key for me.

You are right. It is a sheer joy!

Hi,

just bought:

Core i3

2x 2GB of 1333Mhz RAM

GA-P55M-UD2

Radeon 4850 with 2x DVI-out

Hope my fairly old IDE Harddrive & DVD will work.

Will report back in about 1-2 weeks when everything arrives if it works out.

BTW: Thanks mrjanek, you're great!

i had this same problem, what you have to do is when you go into the bios and under boot, hard drive 1st priority, but also click on priority and move the usbstick (it has to be plugged in) to the top, usually it will say 1 wdxxxxx 3fujistiyxxxxx 6 patriot usb xxxxxx so move the usb to the top and you should have not problem..

Thanks Meatwagon. I had overlooked that. After doing that, the Apple logo appeared with the spinning ball under it. But after about 20 seconds, the screen was left at gray with no further action.

I scratched the Snow Leopard DVD so I was afraid it might be a problem. But, after creating the Snow Leopard Disk Image, I verified it, and it reported that the Disk Image was OK. I also verified the DVD, and it was reported as OK.

I am open to suggestions.

Why does the boot message above say "cannot execute binary file"?

Hi everyone, I need a suggestion:

which base config would you choose:

-Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3LR + INTEL CORE 2 QUAD Q8300 + 9500GT

or

-Gigabyte GA-H55M-UD2H + intel i5 (I won't need a graphics card, right?)

Wich is the best, stable solution? will I have problems with firewire?

Thanks everyone!

Hi Maccompaq -

Allow me to answer your recent PM in public. Maybe it can help someone else as well!

You ask, "How did you manage to get your rig running. My system is much like yours, see my sig on a recent post, and I am having trouble with the Install. See my latest post. Thanks for any help."

I wish I could tell you that I had some magic trick to get my rig running, but I didn't. I'm just an ORG (old retired guy) with declining brain power but a strong will to succeed. With time on my hands but not much cash, I read a lot of stuff and did the best I could.

First, I selected the most Snow Leopard compatible hardware I knew about at the best price I could find. I splurged on the motherboard and processor since I figured I wouldn't want to upgrade them later. The video card, hard drive, etc. could always be upgraded in future as required with little trouble. Compatibility was easy to figure out - just look at the recent components Apple uses in the last year Mac Pro towers. I wanted a fast Mac Pro for Logic Pro music production, not a Windows PC. I have an old 2005 PowerBook G4 (not Intel) that couldn't handle my needs any more. So I spent a little over $1000 for a $3000 machine! Plus my time and labor - cheap!

Next I followed mrjanek's GigabyteOSX Guide to the letter using the GigabyteUSB flash drive method. I had to, I'm too ignorant to do otherwise. Pay particular attention to every detail in Step 5 - setting BIOS. Some folks overlook one detail and they are headed for trouble. Tweaking BIOS, overclocking, dual video cards - all that may be done later as OSx86 methodology matures and ones courage increases. It is not for me to guess what works. I formatted and partitioned one internal drive, booted the USB flash drive, and installed Snow Leopard. Simple, easy, and perfect.

Now, I would like perhaps later to OC my i7 920 CPU from 2.66GHz to about 3.2GHz. No matter - it is presently very fast, very stable. And I might want to add a Windows installed HDD if only to have access to the Gigabyte Utilities that came with the motherboard. I will need a lot of help to accomplish these things, I know!

I get private PMs from a variety of forums on the web asking how I did it. My answer - with the fantastic help of forums like InsanelyMac and great guys like mrjanek! There are no secrets. Google is your friend.

Argh. The plot thickens. From the sounds of things, our mobos do indeed have a similar back panel for audio I/O. Everything that you have described thus far fits my system exactly. According to the manual my mobo does not support audio input via the panel S/P-DIF connections, only output. Input would have to be achieved via a 3rd party card and using the headers on the mobo just as you described. I just can't seem to get the OS to recognize them so that I can use them. :)

I know that both my coax and optical cables are functional as I'm currently using them with other devices.

There seems to be one crucial difference between your A/M Setup and mine. I'm missing the entry for a digital out!

post-364769-1264999008_thumb.png

Patrick,

I noticed that! I wonder too why digital out shows up for me but not for you. I have downloaded the EP45-UD3P Manual from the Gigabyte site and our manuals have almost identical info. See your manual Appendix Chapter 5-2 - Configuring Audio Input & Output. A lot of useful information there, including on page 110 a nifty optional S/PDIF Input cable, apparently available from Gigabyte, that doesn't require a PCI slot. I may need one of these someday!

It may be that you will have to boot into Windows to configure the motherboard to accept digital input/output. I don't know why it would be different on my MOBO. I've not found anything in BIOS to accomplish that task either.

Ok, I have the GA-EP45-UD3P. I am using the CD install method. I can partition the drive and it begins to install OSX but at around 28 minutes to go, I always get a grey screen that pops up in several different langauges and tells me to power off the system. What could the problem be?

it's a kernel panic most often caused by a kext (driver) that conflicts with your hardware. you should boot in verbose mode -v and it will show you where the panic is. Then you have to research to find the correct kext and include it on the boot device. It could be sound, video, or really anything. I get the kp when I'm experimenting with audio kexts trying to get my sound to work. I'm using 10.6 retail and ChameleonRC4 on a 16 gb flashdrive. ga-p35-DS3L, intel e8400

I have tried a few things, i did another fresh install, and i didnt install a few things, menumeters, iwork/ilife, and it seems that i runs fine, then after about a week, ill get them, this time i took out one of my ram dims, well see how that works.

Hi Meatwagon,

I just left an Apple Discussion Forum about KPs. Are you by any chance using one of the popular Microsoft keyboards or mice? Or using VMware? If so, read this:

http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?t...13&tstart=0

Sounds like for this conflict new mouse and keyboard drivers are required for Snow Leopard.

I had a similar error when I had not configured my bios settings correctly. Check your ahci/ide, etc.

Mike

what did you have to change? I have changed the SATA RAID/AHCI MODE to AHCI & changed it to 64 bit in the power management settings like it says in the guide.. did you use a usb keyboard mouse? i am enabling usb keynoard and mouse functions.

thank you!

Yes, I use usb keyboard/mouse. I had one setting, I don't recall which now, that I had mis-configured compared to the guide and got that error. Redoing the BIOS fixed it. I'm sure there are many, many other possibilities.

I recall hearing people have had that issue if they are using the wrong sata port, you might want to try switching the port you are using. Avoid the Jmicron controlled ones, I think port 1 and 2 are preferred.

Good luck

Mike

Request DSDT patch for GA-EP45-UD3P to fix pci cards not working (without hpet option?). SL install went great and system is solid except for pci cards not working.

I have a UAD1(pci), UAD2(pcie), and Lynx AES(pci) card, none are working.

Thanks

i have your similar system

ud3p .. 1 uad1 1 uad2 and a firewire card

strange that uad2 in pcie don't work..

anyway.. i have disabled hpet and pci are all working (for me only one was not working before to disable hpet)

but the uad2 was working also before to disable hpet
