Just uploaded a new version of GigabyteCD. Download link in the first post.

It's hard to maintain compatibility with all these different motherboards.

If GigabyteCD won't work then I suggest using GigabyteUSB as it is far more compatible.

I don't have access to a mac so the USB method is not good for me.

Ok, I just did that and I got further along in the install process. The progress bar was about half way. Then it said an error had occurred.

Brett,

Your Intel Core 2 Duo E7500 and GA-EP45-UD3P ought to work just fine and are supported by mrjanek's GigabyteCD procedure. I am not sure about the 9500 GT, although others have had success with this graphics card. Perhaps you need to disconnect all unnecessary hardware, including any internal hard drives except the empty HHD you intend to install Snow Leopard on. I trust it is a separate, 1 partition GUID hard drive.

What optical drive are you using to load the Gigabyte CD? Is it an internal SATA, external USB, or what? Older disc readers sometimes fail midway through a long, hot install read.

That's strange..

What's your system specifications? Any exotic hardware?

No exotic hardware. I have the GA-EP45-UD3P, 4 gb of patriot 1066 RAM, MSI 9500 GT 512MB, 750 GB Seagate HDD and the e7500 processor. I have always considered myself a highly skilled computer user and this one has me stumped. I read in an earlier post that someone removed all of the install options like extra languages, printers, etc. I even tried that and still nothing.

I only have one internal hard drive. I have partitioned it as 1 partition. No other hardware is installed except for the DVD drive. It is a Lite-On SATA iHas324, brand new. I have tried an older external USB DVD drive and the same thing happens. I am pulling out my hair on this one.

Try installing with the log window open. Set it to "Show All". Then you should be able to see where/why it crashes.

1. You can safely remove that kext. I'll upload a version without it soon.

2. Very unlikely that it's related to the DSDT. Apple maybe cut the support with SL, like they did with a lot of other hardware.

i don'think is apple problem that dismiss some hardware

the same card placed in the other pci slot is ok

the problem is that i have two pci card ..one firewire card and one audio card

first slot (at the end of Mobo) is ok

second slot not.

tried the 2 card in first ok, not in second

First off a BIG thank you to MrJanek for making this so simple. I was able to get a machine up, running, and updated to 10.6.2 first try. Hot damn. And everything is working wonderfully. Ok, except one thing... but it may be more of an edge case.

I'm using the EP45-UD3P motherboard and successfully get both rear and front (case) audio, but cannot get anything of the digital outputs. I've tried both the optical and coax and get nada.

In the sound control panel, I show 4 options under "Output":

Internal Speakers -- green stereo-mini from mobo -- works

Headphones -- green stereo-mini from mobo header connected to case -- works

Line Out -- don't know where it maps; tried optical, coax -- doesn't work

Line Out -- don't know where it maps; tried optical, coax -- doesn't work

Under "Input" I show 3 options, one of which is interesting:

Digital In (Built-in Digital Input)

This got me thinking so I checked out "Audio (Built In) from within System Profiler. Low and behold, listed there are:

S/P-DIF Out: Connection: Combo

S/P-DIF In: Connection: Combo

This leads me to believe the system does, in fact, see them but is treating the interfaces as inputs only, ignoring that they can (should?) be outputs.

Has anyone successfully gotten digital out to work with the EP45-UD3P? And if so, can you please share how?

Thanks in advance,

Patrick

Patrick,

Open Audio Midi Setup in your Utilities folder, then the audio panel. Play with the settings. I can't remember exactly what they are, but they are intuitive and there is Menu Help. These settings take priority over Sound System Preferences. You may ignore the Midi panel unless you have a midi interface for Logic Studio, etc.

WOOOOOO HOOOOO!!! I finally got it to work!! It was not a software problem but rather a hardware problem. One of my ram slots must be bad. All I did was switch ram slots and os x installed on the first try. Thanks to all who tried to help me!

Brett, that is terrific. Based on what you had said before it did seem like a hardware problem to me too! I was even going to suggest you try a different slot for your video card, but that would have been a long shot.

Have fun, Tom :)

Ok i solved my problem with sleep not working properly.. you must check "start up automactically" in the prefreneces under energy saver.

Hey Meatwagon, that is awesome. I know it has been bugging you a long while. What about all the KP's?

What is funny is that I don't even have that automatic option in my Energy Saver Preference Pane! :)

Tom, thanks for the pointer. I'd never looked at the Audio Midi Setup before in all my years of owning macs. :)

This utility shows a "Built-in Digital Input" with "2 in/0 out" which would seem to jive with the Sound control panel showing no Digital Outs but a Digital In. Attempting to create an Aggregate Device in the Audio Midi Setup doesn't reveal any Digital Outs either. Am I missing something? Or perhaps there are differences between our motherboards complicating the matter.

Thanks!

I've got a question about the bootloader.

When I used Linux a few years ago (Ubuntu release), I could go in & modify the bootloader as far as the primary disc to boot to & not show older releases on the bootloader screen.

I was wondering if I could do the same with this? Can I perhaps change the appearance of the bootloader screen to where it says "OS X" & "Windows 7" instead of what it shows now & perhaps remove my data drive from showing as well?

Thanks.

These are the options you can pass to the bootloader:

Edit /Extra/com.apple.Boot.plist and add the options you want.

Options useful in the com.apple.Boot.plist file:
"Boot Graphics"=Yes|No	Use graphics mode or text mode when starting.
"Quiet Boot"=Yes|No Use quiet boot mode (no messages or prompt).
Timeout=8 Number of seconds to pause at the boot: prompt.
"Instant Menu"=Yes Force displaying the partition selection menu.

"Default Partition" Sets the default boot partition,
=hd(x,y) where 'x' is the disk number, 'y' the partition number.

GUI=No Disable the GUI (enabled by default).

USBBusFix=Yes Enable the EHCI and UHCI fixes (disabled by default).
EHCIacquire=Yes Enable the EHCI fix (disabled by default).
UHCIreset=Yes Enable the UHCI fix (disabled by default).

Wake=No Disable wake up after hibernation (enbaled by default).
ForceWake=Yes Force using the sleepimage (disabled by default).
WakeImage=<file> Use an alternate sleepimage file
						  (default path is /private/var/vm/sleepimage).

DropSSDT=Yes Skip the SSDT tables while relocating the ACPI tables.
DSDT=<file> Use an alternate DSDT.aml file
(default paths are /DSDT.aml or /Extra/DSDT.aml).

SMBIOSdefaults=No Don't use the Default values for SMBIOS overriding
						  if /Extra/smbios.plist doesn't exist, factory
						  values are kept.

 Rescan=Yes				Enable CD-ROM rescan mode.
"Rescan Prompt"=Yes Prompts for enable CD-ROM rescan mode.

I bought another Flash Drive & prepared it as directed. Installed the bootloader, but it does not work. Opening it in Terminal shows the following:

Last login: Sun Jan 31 18:08:00 on ttys000

john-dokes-mac-pro:~ johndokes$ /Volumes/OSX86/boot ; exit;

-bash: /Volumes/OSX86/boot: cannot execute binary file

logout

[Process completed]

When trying to boot the computer, it stalls at:

Verifying DMI Pool Data................

Error loading operating system

Please let me know what is wrong. Thanks.

Patrick, I am sure that our MOBOs have similar back panel audio I/O. The six six pink, green, blue, etc. analogs, plus 2 digital - 1 coaxial S/PDIF Out connector and 1 optical S/PDIF Out connector. Then I also have 2 front case connectors directly to the mobo - 1 mic input, 1 standard stereo out for headphones, etc. I have only a rear mic (pink) and the rear stereo out (green) connected, no digital toslink or coax connected. So my audio looks like this in the A/M Setup Utility. My mobo also has digital I/O headers should I ever add a audio interface card to work in my sound studio. My mobo does NOT have digital input from the back panel, only from the internal headers.

It is possible that either your optical cable is faulty or your motherboard output connector doesn't see it. Check your mobo manual for troubleshooting first. Good Luck!

Here's a snapshot from my A/M Setup:
