Meatwagon
The board I would propose would be one of the following...http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...8-406-_-Product (gigabyte p55-ud3l) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...8-405-_-Product (gigabyte p55m-UD2) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...8-425-_-Product (gigabyte p55-USB) The UD2 would probably be my choice for a build, all are around 100-120 USD Tonymac has a guide for installs with these boards, has DSDT's on them all. An automated installer would be excellent. Best Mike i would just get one that actually works with this install, E45-Ud3 works great and is cheaper. I have the UD3L no need for raid. but to each their own
mikedddd
i would just get one that actually works with this install, E45-Ud3 works great and is cheaper. I have the UD3L no need for raid. but to each their own Yes, but these are P55 boards, that can use the I7 chips. The 45's cannot, which is why I would propose adding p55 support to the process here. BluChrome
Amazing! Big thanks to MrJanek. (donated!) Installation was a breeze, installed on: - Gigabyte EP45T-UD3LR - Nvidia 9800GT - 4GB RAM - 640GB WD Black SATA - Pioneer DVD-R SATA I think I may have a small issue with the 9800GT, poor display after sleep. But this is currently connected via VGA, hopefully DVI will correct this. Also, no QE on the 9800GT, will this change when DVI connected? Do I need to inject drivers? Super noob question: (Search isn't working) Can someone detail the best way to update to 10.6.2 without locking me out. Thanks! I've done this install the hard way before and was pulling my hair out as I'm sure many others have. If you've found this method and package as helpful as I have then donate MrJanek a drink or two! CrazyCreator
Hello,in December 09 i dowloaded a version of the gigabyte.iso and installed it with SL 10.6 on my GA-EP43-UD3L. Entropism
Got everything up and runningn an EP45-UD3P using the USB method, the CD wouldn't work at all. Unfortunately, two days later BOTH LAN ports died, and I had to RMA the board. Currently being forced to use a Dynex card and Win7, until I replace the mobo later tonight. Meatwagon
Mr.janek do you offer any support with osx software raid? I have done a bit of research, and with my Mirrored Raid (osx software) i can boot fine with the usbstick, ( i get 3 options, 1usb drive, 2 SL disk1 , 3SL disk2, Both disk1-2 boot with no issues, but im stuck having to use the USB stick which is annoying since if you forget to boot the right disk you get loaded into SL install setup.. From what ive read SL, makes 3 partitions on each raid. So i followed the chameleon 2.0 rc4 manual install, RAID Install: ------------- Suppose that your installation is on /dev/disk3, which is either a mirror- or a stripeset consisting of /dev/disk0 and /dev/disk1 Mac OS X creates a small helper partition at the end of each RAID member disk, namely /dev/disk0s3 and /dev/disk1s3 - Install boot0 to the MBR of both disks: sudo fdisk -f boot0 -u -y /dev/rdisk0 sudo fdisk -f boot0 -u -y /dev/rdisk1 - Install boot1h to the bootsector of each boot partition: sudo dd if=boot1h of=/dev/rdisk0s3 sudo dd if=boot1h of=/dev/rdisk1s3 - Install boot to both helper partition's root directories. diskutil mount disk0s3 cp boot /Volumes/Boot\ OSX diskutil unmount disk0s3 diskutil mount disk1s3 cp boot /Volumes/Boot\ OSX diskutil unmount disk1s3 - Add "rd=uuid boot-uuid=506D8F03-0596-32D8-BE0B-E3A4E7D5C72A" to your kernel flags (replace with your root volume's UUID; find out using "Disk Utility.app", right click on your root volume, then Get Info"): nano /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist touch /System/Library/Extensions now this actually worked, but booted into KP immediately, on both drive , in -x mode and when i booted from the usb, it also reset my bios setttings as well. Now i guess im getting a KP because i used the CHA 2.0 RC4's boot0 and boot1h, and not the one from your package, and never moved the proper files to the 3rd partition. im guessing that i need to move Mr.Janeks files to the 3rd partition.. here is what is on it right now so can anyone help me with what i need to move (com.apple.plist) etc? extras folder?? Much much appriciated!

sw170
- Install boot0 to the MBR of both disks: sudo fdisk -f boot0 -u -y /dev/rdisk0 sudo fdisk -f boot0 -u -y /dev/rdisk1 - Install boot1h to the bootsector of each boot partition: sudo dd if=boot1h of=/dev/rdisk0s3 sudo dd if=boot1h of=/dev/rdisk1s3 - Install boot to both helper partition's root directories. diskutil mount disk0s3 cp boot /Volumes/Boot\ OSX diskutil unmount disk0s3 diskutil mount disk1s3 cp boot /Volumes/Boot\ OSX diskutil unmount disk1s3 that looks correct (double check, your partitions are 0s3; 1s3 and 0,1correct disks, just to be sure -osx likes changing disks numbers at every boot) - Add "rd=uuid boot-uuid=506D8F03-0596-32D8-BE0B-E3A4E7D5C72A" to your kernel flags (replace with your root volume's UUID; find out using "Disk Utility.app", right click on your root volume, then Get Info"): nano /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist touch /System/Library/Extensions[/code] you need to edit your com.apple.Boot.plist on Raid boot partitions (helper partitions) which are: (if above are your correct disks numbers) 0s3 and 1s3 so path to your com.apple.Boot.plist shoud be: /Volumes/Boot\ OSX/Extra/com.apple.Boot.plist <key>Kernel Flags</key> <string>boot-uuid=506D8F03-0596-32D8-BE0B-E3A4E7D5C72A</string> thats how it looks on my system, I dont use rd= and is fine Now i guess im getting a KP because i used the CHA 2.0 RC4's boot0 and boot1h, and not the one from your package, and never moved the proper files to the 3rd partition. im guessing that i need to move Mr.Janeks files to the 3rd partition.. here is what is on it right now so can anyone help me with what i need to move (com.apple.plist) etc? extras folder?? SunLizard
Sure, give me some examples and I'll see if I can add support. I do however, have a lot do with school atm and it might take a while (~2 weeks) before a new version is released. Is this causing any problems? I can not say definitively that it does. I will say that after an update or two, I lost sound and (kext was loaded, hw recognized but was being disabled) and broadcom wireless kext. I am doubtful whether FakeSMC had anything to do with that (more likely a apple update on Gigabyte HW thing) but I cannot rule it out. Ultimately, rather than trying to figure it out myself, I reloaded my install image (pre-update) as I had work to do. I still have the alert (I suspect it may be an issue with the dsdt) on FakeSMC. If I I lose sound/lan again I'll investigate further. What would be interesting is to see if anyone else with a 45T-UD3LR has the similar alert. Thanks for the package and the response.
