I only found 1 person that had success with the GA-EX58-UD4P in the past 11 pages...for that matter it's the only one I found using that specific motherboard.

I did a search to see what the difference was between the UD4P & the UD5 and here's what I found:

It doesn't have multi-rod copper heat-pipe channels spanning between the chips, instead it gets a lonely single aluminum heat-pipe rod. It also sheds the second NIC, and second JMicron SATA chip that the other two have. It does however pick-up a special TPM chip with 2048-bit encryption, which is unique to only this model.

My question is, is that "special TPM chip" going to make a difference if I use mrjaneks' iso & follow the instructions?

What is the best way to make a bootable backup clone of a GigabyteOSX installed drive? If I use Carbon Copy Cloner to an external firewire hard drive, will it be necessary to use the GigabyteUSB flash stick to load the boot file and Extra folder?

 

How have others in this forum accomplished a successful backup that will boot a Hackintosh?

 

Any help will be appreciated.

 

I was thinking of using carbon copy cleaner to copy my hard drive to another-one and then downloading Mr Janet's package and installing it on the second hard drive.

 

I'm interested to see if it would be possible to create a full backup from a time machine external HD.

 

Would be gutting if an accidental update killed my setup which has been working for months now.

I am having two issues, one has already been mentioned here when people update to 10.6.2 they get a black screen, I will try their suggestions and let you know. The other problem I am experiencing is if I change my screen resolution, the screen goes blue, but the desktop never comes back, if I reboot its all good and at the resolution I had selected before I had to reboot.

 

I am using:

 

Gigabyte EP45 UD3L

Intel E2160

2x1G DDR 667 RAM

PNY 8800GT

400GB SATA HD's X2

DVR SATA

Snow Leopard 10.6 vanilla install

Just ran the update to 10.6.2, reboot, still black screen, push power button, sleep, push again, comes back up and the screen is fine. Is this problem due to the update, and if so is a fix in the works, will I have to do this every time the computer reboots?

Managed to get ethernet running on UD7 following pjsallday's advice (USB method), thanks.

However, audio is still not recognised.

I'm wondering if I can just fix a kext rather than starting from scratch?

 

Just a reply to self, so that anyone with audio issues on the UD7 can benefit from my experience.

The combo update fixed my ausio issues, audio is now recognised (use line output2).

using the bootloader i was able to install Snow Leopard on my system

 

EX58-UD4P 10F bios

i7-920

6 gigs OCZ 1600 ram

Sapphire ATI 4890

IDE dvd drive

IDE 40 gig seagate drive <=== OS X installation drive

sata 1 tb WD drive <==== windows partitions

 

From the Bootdisk i installed the EX58-UD5 package

 

installed RealtekR1000 kext for lan

Used QIW_CI_Exotic_cards.pkg, Enabler_for_Nvidia_and_multiple_ATI_cards.pkg and QIW_CI_Exotic patch 10.6.2.pkg

to enable the 4890.

 

Is there a program i can run or something i can look for during boot to make sure everything is properly installed and running like if sleep and shutdown functions correctly. Because on shutdown it show fail for unmount /home then it shutsdown.

When i have changed the screen res i got this blue screen that can be bypassed by a sleep-wakeup procedure.

 

I have just changed from the VGA (dsub) to the DVI connector (and a DVI to VGA adapter) and all this problems were gone.

 

Unfortunately i could never make my OSX install work in dual view (with 2 monitors at same time). I would love to use it to watch my movies...

The only resolutions that are working are 800x600 and 1280x1024 - the native resolution (1920x1080) and my prefered one (1360x768) aren't working, the second one isn't even available, while it's useable with Linux and Windows. So i guess it's a problem with EDID and Mac OS. Tried all of the kexts available out there (+ EFI string).

Example: My resolution was at 1920 by 1080 and I changed it to 1600 by 900. The screen went blue and stayed that way. I had to turn off the power, then turned it back on, rebooted, and the resolution was then 1600 by 900. To get back to 1920 by 1080, I had to make the resolution change, power off and back on and then reboot.

 

The only reason I changed the resolution temporarily was to see how it looked using the Flight Simulator X-Plane 9. I prefer it at 1920 by 1080 for all the software I use.

 

All resolutions from 640 by 480 through 1920 by 1080 are available to choose from for my computer.

 

EDIT: I tried a resolution change again, and discovered that I did not need to turn off the power. Just pressing the RESET button on the computer forced a warm reboot into the resolution I selected before the blue screen appeared.

does anyone know how to force snow leopard to run in 32 bit mode? i have the EP45-UD3LR. I need to be running in 32 bit mode so that i can run some critical software.

 

i had it working before but after upgrading to 10.6.2 i cant get it to switch back???? what do i need to edit?

I rebooted waiting that Chameleon detect both bootables disks and offering me to choose which one I would like to boot from. But Cameleon only saw the original disk.

After that I open System Preferences > Startup Disk. There appeared the original startup disk, the cloned one and the network startup disk.

When I selected the cloned one a window saying "You can't change the startup disk to the selected one. The bless tool was unable to set the current boot disk".

What can I do to add the "bless tool" to the cloned disk to get it boot up? And to be detected by Chameleon?

Have you installed Mr Janet's package onto the second internal disk?

 

What happens if you disconnect your main disk and just boot with the 'backed up' disc.

Sorry, I just have one screen and it has only a VGA cable, so I can't tell you more about the dual screen fonctionality.

Do you have the geoforce Nvidia 9800 GT 1024 Mo with VGA, DVI and HDMI conector like mine?

If yes did you test the HDMI conector?

I'll buy a VGA/DVI adaptator and test it.

Ok maccompaq, but when you chose the resolution and push the reset buton, after the reboot of the computer, does the blue screen still appear?

I did it, but I still have the blue screen after the reboot .

I'll test tomorrow the DVI solution that CreativeBR gave me and tell you more about it.
