qwark
Hello all and a happy 2010 to you! Firstly a big hand and thank you to mrjanek! This is the most awesome hackinstall there is.... ! None till no fuss so far with the usb installation.... wow!! I am having one issue - might be no issue but still (first time to fiddle around with a pc box for me) : here my rig: ga-ep45-ud3lr Q9550 4GB OCZ DDR2 Dual Ch Kit @ 800mhz evga - geforce 9400gt 1024mb in the system profiler the processor reports as quadcore intel xenon 1 processor 4 cores @ 2.83ghz. istat also reports 1 processor 4 cores @ 2.83. so does this mean that only one processor of the q9550 is active? could someone please point me in the right direction to get both processors going? Cheers for the support.... Ooops me being confused.... all working nicely here...
joergd
The GigabyteCD package is zipped. You'll be able to get the guide from that archive. I have to admit that I never downloaded the CD-Package.
strukt
mrjanek: Many many thanks to you for putting together this easy to use installation utility. Because that is what it is. It is up to us to buy the correct hardware and everything should work right away. I used the USB installation option. And guess what, it works! This is the first time ever I have built a working hackintosh from scratch without getting any problems. (Or well, I had the 1GB+ partition problem but it was solved by creating a smaller partition). Here is the hardware I have used: Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-EX58-UD5 CPU: INTEL CORE I7-920 2.66G 8M RAM: OCZ TECH Platinum 6GB Kit GPU: XFX GeForce 9800GT 512MB DDR3 HD: HITACHI Deskstar 7K2000 2TB HDD Geekbench score was around 7 700 I think and world of warcraft was running just fine. mrjanek, I hope you will continue to support this in the future (10.6.3) . We all need simpler ways to install Mac OS X. Check your paypal account in a few minutes. A donation is on its way, you should be able to buy a couple of beers at least. Thanks again, from your norwegian neighbour...
Seef
Guys I have OSX up and running on the ga-ep45-ud3lr, and it runs very nice! However, I'm not able to install parallels: it gives the error "parallels desktop can only be installed on systems". However, I can't seem to find in the bios where to turn on hardware virtualization. I found the advice for the GA-EP45-UD3 which says: On the "Advanced BIOS Features" page: turn "Virtualization Technology" to "Enabled. But, I can't find this option in my bios. Any advice? Meatwagon
Hi... I just finished building my 2nd new Hackintosh. My first was built using the EP45-UD3P and following the Lifehacker guide. This time, however, I used the EP45-UD3L and again followed the Lifehacker guide. Everything is working GREAT except I have no sound whatsoever. No sound device showing up in System preferences. I realize this is a 889 vs. 888 chipset issue, so I downloaded the latest CD package from your site and installed it to my SL installation. After rebooting and re-trying the install, still no luck with any sound devices showing up.. Is there something I can try to get this thing fixed? Thanks so much for helping! I have the same board and i used Janeks zip file and sound works again. Just download the newest version, and install it on the HD. It should work, dont use the lifehacker one, it doesnt have the sound driver. Hello to all!!!Guys, does anybody know how to enable all sound outputs on ALC888 (EP45-UD3LR)? I have the same board and i used Janeks zip file and sound works again. Just download the newest version, and install it on the HD. It should work, dont use the lifehacker one, it doesnt have the sound driver. Guys I have OSX up and running on the ga-ep45-ud3lr, and it runs very nice! toldi
Meatwagon, I`ve just used updated CDinstall , it removed OpenHaltReatart.kext, but no audio kexts was added. I have to say that audio is working, but only in stereo mode (exernal speakers). Mrjanek, what can I do to enable all alc888 sound outputs? Or this is impossible? THX upd. http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...188349&st=0 -- alc888 snow leo 64-bit kext. itsmishka
Hi I have a few questions, I have the EP45-DS3L mobo. Do I need a mac osx running computer next to me to be able to complete "restore" and run .dmgs? Because this is ridiculous, all the instructions are for people who already have macs. By "restore" do you mean copy and paste onto the thumbdrive?? Because thats what I did! How do I mount the GigabyteUSB and point it to the thumbdrive WITHOUT A MAC?? Please help, thank you. I just bought a 16gb thumbdrive, and after careful investigation realized i could have used my 8gb with the help of "MacDrive". Any information on how I can mount the GigabyteUSB.dmg and point it, or a link would be helpful thanks.
trwoolley
mrjanek - and everyone I am here to report total success with GigabyteUSB 1.5.1 install of Snow Leopard on my GA-EX58-UD5 mobo with the components as listed in my signature below. My biggest headache was waiting days for my power supply to arrive as I stared at my almost completed build. Well, the PSU did show up early yesterday and installing it was simple. Last night I downloaded the final 1.5.1 version of mrjanek's masterpiece. His work is exactly what I would expect from a Swedish artisan focused on simplicity, function, and economy (think IKEA here). His intent was to make it easy for old tomcats like me to realize a dream if I followed his simple example. He has wonderfully succeeded. No sleep problems - at all. Firewire and Ethernet perfect off the motherboard - no added PCI cards required. HD Audio with no hiccups. No need to fiddle with elaborate BIOS settings or adding/deleting KEXTS. No kernel panics, easy upgrade to 10.6.2. This is how it should be done. A perfect marriage of a specific motherboard(s) with specific software code(s). The whole process was far easier than installing Windows (any version) for the first time on a fresh machine. Kudos to you, mrjanek. I will definitely be contributing to your Swedish welfare soon! trapezoidscheme
ok, this is driving me nuts: I cannot get this or any other guide to work I have: Western Digital 1TB SATAII HDD 32M cache OCZ 60G Summit Series SSD Kingston DDR2 4(2x2G)PC6400 800Mhz Intel CORE 2 QUAD Q9650/3GHz Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3LR gigabyte 9800 gt firewire pci card pioneer dvdrw with your usb guide, the installer hangs at the spinning /|\- thingy with the cd, it gets to mounting: done, and then hangs at the spinning thingy again this is annoying because I had this working with windows install and easybcd but since then something has happened to make the snow leopard partition stop booting - and so I have tried re-installing using your guide - i have even deleted the old sl partition on the 60gb drive and then even the boot partition - and it still does the same thing windows 7 works beautifully could it be something to do with the partitioning? is it the ssd? I'm really hoping someone out there may have figured this out already
680i-osx
I’ve just uploaded a new version which adds support for another popular motherboard. Changes: v1.6 Beta - Added support for EX58-UD3R Download links in the first post. Hi mrjanek! I could finally manage to install SL with your thumb drive method!! :thumbsup_anim: The v1.6 is perfect! Thank you very much!!! Sound (analog and digital optical), network (both), video, JMicron SATA, firewire, everything is great! Even updated to 10.6.2, it took some time to do this but everything still working! My spec is as follows (my sig has the former hack...): - Gigabyte EX58-UD5 mobo - Intel Core i7 920 (still at stock speeds) - 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 1600 CL8 Corsair Dominator - Inno3D GeForce GTX285 1GB - 3 SATA HD and SATA BD/DVD/CD reader on the ICH10R ports - 2 SATA HD on the JMicron ports - 1 firewire HD and a HDV camcorder on the IEEE1394 ports - Apple aluminum keyboard, MS Intellimouse, HP LCD, B&W speakers, Marantz amp, etc For those with similar setup (mobo/CPU at least), go ahead and try Snow Leopard with mrjanek's method! It's just great! Great work mrjanek, thank you!

Try the following: a- Push the power button and make it to sleep, than push again. Repeat until the screen comes to life. b- Than try a lower resolution (mine working at 1440X900) I know it is not a permanent solution, but better than nothing! best
strukt
Have anyone noticed bad hard drive performance? If you try downloading something using torrent, and do something else at the same time. It constantly writes to the hard drive making it almost impossible to do something else. I could download torrents with my older macbook without having the entire system lagging, and the macbook have much less beefier hardware. Any ideas here? Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-EX58-UD5 CPU: INTEL CORE I7-920 2.66G 8M RAM: OCZ TECH Platinum 6GB Kit GPU: XFX GeForce 9800GT 512MB DDR3 HD: HITACHI Deskstar 7K2000 2TB HDD EDIT: I did some troubleshooting myself. The motherboard have as I understand it two different SATA chipsets. One ICHR10 and one JMicron. I originally connected all drives to the ICHR10 chipset. But now I tried connecting my boot drive to the Jmicron chipset instead and it seems like the performance is a little bit better. It still writes a lot to the drive while torrenting though, but it seems like I can do other things at the same time now. Crossing fingers...
