Both GigabyteCD and GigabyteUSB are bundled with the guide. It has everything you need to know about installing SL on your PC.

 

He is having problems to open the DMG on a Windows machine.

Step 1 - Creating an image of your Snow Leopard disc

1. Start Disk Utility (/Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility)

2. In the left hand pane select Mac OS X Install DVD

3. Click the New Image button in the toolbar, select a destination and click

Save

 

Step 2 - Formating and partitioning your thumb drive

1. Insert your thumb drive and start Disk Utility if you closed it.

2. Select the drive in the left pane and click the Partition button in the

right pane

3. In the Volume Scheme drop-down menu select 1 partition and insert a

name for the partition (eg. Hackintosh)

4. Next select Mac OS Extended (Case-sensitive, Journaled) from the

Format drop-down

5. Click Options select the GUID Partition Table option and click OK

6. Hit Apply!

 

Requirements:

Core 2Duo/Quad, i5, i7 IDE/SATA harddrive GigabyteUSB.dmg Mac/Hackintosh

Compatible motherboards:

Gigabyte EP45-UD3LR Gigabyte EP45T-UD3LR Gigabyte EP45-UD3R Gigabyte EP45-UD3P

Gigabyte motherboard NVIDIA/ATI PCI-E GFX USB drive (8GB+) Snow Leopard disc

Gigabyte EX58-UD5 Gigabyte EX58A-UD7 Gigabyte EP45-UD3L Gigabyte EP45-DS3L

 

Step 3 - Restoring the Snow Leopard Install image to your thumb drive

1. First the image we created has to be verified.

2. In Disk Utility click Images in the menubar and select Scan Image For

Restore.. then the image file and click OK

3. Next click your thumb drive partition (eg. Hackintosh) and click Restore

in the right pane

4. Now drag the Snow Leopard image file to the Source field.

5. Drag the thumb drive partition to the Destination field

6. Uncheck the Erase destination option and hit Restore

 

Step 4 - Installing bootloader to thumb drive

1. Unless you haven't, mount the GigabyteUSB.dmg volume.

2. A new Finder window should open. Double-click Install.

3. Select your thumb drive (eg. Hackintosh) and click Continue

4. Select your motherboard and Continue 5. Eject the thumb drive

 

Step 5 - Setting up BIOS

1. Insert the thumb drive in the PC you wish to install to.

2. Enter BIOS and go to Advanced Features

3. Change the Hard Disk Boot Priority to your thumb drive as primary

(Number 1) and set the harddrive you're going to install to as secondary (Number 2)

eg. 1. USB-HDD0: SanDisk 16GB 2. SCSI-0: WD 500GB

4. Go back (ESC), go to Integrated peripherals

5. IMPORTANT: Set SATA RAID/AHCI Mode to AHCI 6.

Go back (ESC), go to Power Management

7. Set the ACPI Suspend Type to S3(STR)

8. Set HPET Mode to 64-bit mode

9. Save and Exit, by pressing F10

 

Step 6 - Installing Snow Leopard

Your system should now be booting from your thumb drive. The bootloader will greet you, and after 5 seconds it will start the Snow Leopard install.

1. Once the Snow Leopard Installer is up and running click Utilities and then Disk Utility

2. In the left hand pane select the harddrive you wish to install to

3. Click Partition then select 1 Partition then click Options and check

GUID Partition Table hit OK

4. Finally enter a name for your partition (eg. Mac Pro) and Apply (Leave the

format drop-down to its default value)

5. When the partitioning and formating is done quit Disk Utility

6. Now go on with the Snow Leopard installer and select your partition (eg.

Mac Pro) and install.

7. When the installer has finished restart your computer and remove the

thumb drive.

I was just wondering if my setup is ok for this installer:

 

Intel E8400 Core 2 Duo Processor (3GHz)

4GB Corsair XMS2 (2x 2GB)

Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3L LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Motherboard

Western Digital Caviar Blue 640 GB Hard Drive

LG 22X DVD+R DVD Burner Black SATA

EVGA GeForce 7300GS 256MB 64-bit GDDR2 PCI Express x16 Video Card

Everything except the graphics card will be fine. If you want a cheap graphics card then I recommend Nvidia 9500GT.

I've just uploaded a new version of GigabyteOSX.

The changes affect only EP45-UD3P, EP45-UD3R and EX58-UD5 (missing component issue)

No need to update if you don't have any of those.

 

Changes: 

v1.5.1 Beta
- Removed OpenHaltRestart.kext from EP45-UD3P package
- Removed "Resource" folders
- Solved the "Missing component" issue. Hopefully;)

I'm sorry to say that the v1.5.1 didn't solve the "missing component" issue. :(

I wish I had good news for your project, but...

 

Just for your reference, with the v1.5 and 1.5.1 sleep works great, even in auto sleep, it shuts down the power supply and I can wake it with just a click on the mouse (optical USB mouse), the system comes back instantly, but none of them detects the HD attached in the JMicron SATA controller. The HD is not even recognized by the Disk Utility.

With the v1.4 it's exactly the opposite, the HD is detected and I can read and write normally, but sleep doesn't work as it goes to sleep (in auto mode) and I can't wake it up in anyway.

 

And another thing, that I don't know if it has anything to do with the hackintosh factor, my BD drive is detected (it shows up in the system profiler), but it can't mount the disks I put in. But if I boot the hackintosh WITH a disk inside the drive, it's detected and mounted without problems, then it works flawlessly all the way until the next boot... The drive is hooked in the ICH controller.

Again, it may not have anything to do by the fact it is a hack, and my drive is a read-only drive, it only reads BD, DVD and CD, it doesn't write in any of them. I bought it because it was like U$60 and all my backups are done in HDDs... ;)

 

In case you want to see the error message during the installation:

Well, it's almost there, I think the "missing component" issue is the only drawback now. :P

This is my 3rd hackintosh build, and I'm pretty sure I'm following your instructions to the letter.

 

Any ideas? Workarounds?

my only thoughts could be you image may be corrupt? If your using USB stick, try recreating that one? Although you are using a different mobo, my 1st suggestion.

May I suggest a workaround?

I have the same mobo (and same issue) and for now the only workaround I found is to proceed the installation (as you did), and then boot using the same thumb drive, press any key before the 3 seconds wait (the countdown that starts just after the bootloader appears), then choose the partition where you installed Snow Leopard.

This will make you to boot into the OSX, the first boot will take longer.

And finally you need to install the network kext (RealtekR1000SL.kext) by yourself.

Doing this, most things will work fine, but of course it will be great if mrjanek could release an update fixing that issue. :D

Hope this will help you to at least boot your hack.

In my case (and I think it's the same for all EX58-UD5 users) the message appears just after the last click you do to install SL, after the "customize" thing. Then the installer starts the whole file copying stuff...

I forget exactly what it said on the screen, but it's the one where it shows you all the hard drives in your system, and you click on the one you want to install Snow Leopard to. As soon as I click on the disk, it looks like it's going to start copying files or whatever, but then the error pops up.

Should be fine just installing it on top of the old one.

Hi...

 

I just finished building my 2nd new Hackintosh. My first was built using the EP45-UD3P and following the Lifehacker guide. This time, however, I used the EP45-UD3L and again followed the Lifehacker guide.

 

Everything is working GREAT except I have no sound whatsoever. No sound device showing up in System preferences.

 

I realize this is a 889 vs. 888 chipset issue, so I downloaded the latest CD package from your site and installed it to my SL installation. After rebooting and re-trying the install, still no luck with any sound devices showing up..

 

Is there something I can try to get this thing fixed?
