worf17
If you don't have a GUID disk, when the SL installer loads, you will notice that you cannot install on any drives. I'm not sure if it'll cause problems with booting the installer though. What I did was disconnect my MBR drive (just pulled out the SATA cable), leaving only one GUID formatted HDD. It seems that the workaround to get SL on an MBR drive involves getting an edited installer package for SL which isn't recommended. I'd suggest installing to a GUID disk and restoring it to the MBR partition. I'm keeping this old 120GB 5400rpm notebook HDD with SL on it just for this purpose. Are you still getting the KP on boot? Sadly yeah... I've got only till Sunday night before uni starts again and I won't bother with this till sometime in March. I only want SL to try out XCode and the latest version of the IPhone SDK =(
uswish
You can use the latest ISO mrjanek did for me uswish if you want as it worked perfectly. Thanks mrjanek and of course to you other members who have helped me out. Just gonna get it updated and whatnot and then see about restoring this HDD Partition to a Partition on my proper HDD that currently has Windows 7 on and a spare 200GB Parition I created to put this on. Lots of fun :-) Jamie Thank you soo much!! Took your advice and everything is up and running, this is awesome!
CreativeBR
Hi friends, I think i have advanced a little bit...8) 1) The old problem: "USB: I have got an 60GB HDD (PATA) into a USB 2.0 case but the restore Snow DVD to USB stick procedure is getting an i/o error at the end of the restore (from both DMG created or from the snow DVD directly). " I could make the SL DVD restore to my USB-HDD using Carbon Copy Cloner... 2) After pass problem 1 i got the gray screen lock after the USB boot... So i tried the VerboseMode boot and get a scrambled screen at the end. I remember to check if my video board is a problematic one and BINGO: ATI 4550 is not a friendly video board in this scene !!! I have replaced the old 4550 with a more old Geforce EN7300 that was retired for many months here at my office. BINGO again. The SL installer started to run! Unfortunately i have got the strange message "component not found for the UD3L" as USWISH and i have selected the UD3R one (as mine is EP45C-UD3R) in the GigabyteUSB installer. Let me see what happens know !!!! Thanks a lot for this nicely tool MrJanek !

CreativeBR
Hip....I have ignored the missing file warn from the UD3L and got a nicely SL running. These items were running: 1) USB speakers 2) USB ports 3) Network But (always there's a but) i decided to do a full software upgrade (the one inside the upper left apple) and it made 3 updates and asked me to reboot. Now the system loads but shows that dark gray square message that ask me to restart the computer holding down the power button in 5 languages. Sorry for the newba question but can i do apple software updates or not? {}s and thanks a lot my friends, CreativeBR
yhelotharlol
after preparing to install SL the old fashion way all december, i stumbled upon your guide today, and noticed that you updated to include the EP45-UD3L variant. yay! install worked w/o a hitch: - burnt iso to bootcd - loaded bootcd-> switched cd to SL Retail - installed SL - rebooted w/ bootcd, selected new SL partition - inside SL, lan/video working. audio drivers installed/"recognized", but no audio output (audio on the UD3L has always been problematic, since it uses the ALC888 chipset instead of the 889 like in the R) - installed GigabyteBoot.pkg (previously Install.pkg), and selected my mobo - done? I also updated to 10.6.2. looks ok for now...
mrjanek
now, the guide says install Install.pkg from the bootcd. am i missing something?what about updates, should i grab the 10.6.2 update? thanks a lot! Err.. that's a typo Should be GigabyteBoot.mpkg. So audio isn't working? I'll see if I can fix this. Updating to 10.6.2 should work but I don't know for sure as I don't have the mentioned motherboard.
yhelotharlol
cool, thanks for the quick reply! also just updated to 10.6.2, seems fine is there something that i can test the OS with to see if its stably-working? also, i had gotten audio working on 10.5.8, just don't remember which kexts i installed (i tried so many, so many...) yhelotharlol
Yup, that seemed to have done the trick. Thanks! Although I'm only 90% sure, I had tried installing a couple of HDAEnabler.kext, and it hadn't worked (and it wasn't in S/L/E initially). Also, the sound didn't work immediately, only after messing with the slider in SysPrefs, works fine after reboot. However, I'm going to install SL on a 2nd EP45-UD3L, and will let you know if that patch is all it takes (unless you'd want me to try an updated ISO install). Thanks again!!! Oh one last thing - when I go into Sleep (Standby) mode, the computer stays "on" (fans spinning) for a couple minutes, then seems to shut down automatically. Keyboard/mouse triggers power on computer, but its a full-on boot. Any ideas?
lapis05
Hi mrjanek Thanks for your great work. I just installed the SL in MY EP45-UD3LR with 10.6.2 update smoothly. But I found the SATA ports loss their hotplug feature. Could you tell me how to modify for the hotplug on my SATA ports? I need this for my 4 bay internal HDD rack. Many thanks. This is the Verbose boot: Searching a little with Google i could find some info about a bug with nVidia 7000 series and Snow 10.6.2. Does anyone knows if this bug is an old thing already solved ??? See my sig for details on what I had / have now Hopes this helps Edit: even the little dotted line where the pdf will normaly be on the dock is the same as I had with normal boot @MrJanek, maybe put a note on 1st post about 7800GT ? I still have mine and can do some tests 4 you with it. If you want to work on it just pm me.

I don't know if it'll work but I've successfully used VoodooHDA on a number of installations (2 laptops and 3 desktops) and it's never failed so far. ThePhoenixUK
OK, everything was working and now I've broken it on purpose and need to fix it. What I did was this: 1. Restored my Partition to a Partition on my Windows MBR HDD so I could setup a dual boot 2. Booted that partition using the GigabyteCD, then installed Chameleon RC4, Rebooted 3. Can boot SL from Chameleon no problem, but when I hit F10 toshow other discs and chose my Windows Parition it would no boot as the bootloader was stuffed. 4. Reinstalled the Bootloader after making my partition 0 the active partition again. 5. Can now boot Windows 7 fine but need to add SL into bootmenu, tried using EasyBCD but it wants the target drive letter and I don't have one and can't assign one as it's a unrecognised partition obviously. So.... How do I fix this so I can boot both ? My Drive setup is as follows: Partition 0 = 200mb System Reserved Parition 1 = 295GB Windows 7 Partition 2 = 195GB MAC OS Snow Leopard Hopefully one of you experts can help, then I'll have my system setup perfect and just the way I want it. Thanks Jamie.
leafhound
I don't think there is support for a standard UK keyboard layout, To make the @ symbol it requires Shift+2 and not Shift+' as it ought to be. In System Preference there's only Euro, US and Japanese layouts. Help?

Thanks Jamie. Before reinstalling the windows boot loader, could you boot to Windows using Chameleon? At the Chameleon boot screen, hit any key and it should give you a menu of partitions from which to boot. I'm using Chameleon RC4 to boot all my OSes and it works great (plus I can customize my startup screens with themes). To fix this, there are two ways, one of which I'm more familiar with, and the other I used it when I dual-booted Leopard (so that was some time ago). Boot using the SL installer with the "-s" flag. I'm guessing Chameleon is still on the SL partition so we just need to set that active. At the installer's terminal, type: /sbin/fsck -fy /sbin/mount -uw / Then, type: fdisk -e /dev/rdisk# (where # is the disk on which SL is installed) print (to see the partition table) flag # (where # is the partition on which SL is installed) write update quit Reboot and you should be able to boot into SL. Now at the Chameleon boot screen, try to see if you can select the Windows partition and boot from it. You can change the timeout on the bootscreen in SL by editing boot.plist (the default is 3 seconds so be alert!). OR: You can use Windows' repair utility to set the SL partition as active, and you should see Chameleon again, and you can select partitions from which to boot. PS. Am glad to see the restore-to-MBR option worked!
GrootWitBaas
Jamie, have you the boot CD or USB that you can put a Bootloader onto (from the 1st post) If so with the CD or USB can you select both partitions to boot, and test maybe 1st win then SL If this works you probably will be able to set the SL part active and install the Bootloader to it ... also see post above I don't think there is support for a standard UK keyboard layout, To make the @ symbol it requires Shift+2 and not Shift+' as it ought to be. ThePhoenixUK
OK, I have made some progress now. I have made Partition 3 Active so I can boot Chameleon, and since I have reinstalled the Windows 7 Bootloader I can now hit F10 and choose Windows 7 and it now boots successfully. So I have looked into Chameleon and found the bit to increase timeout, what I need to do now is: 1. Add the Windows 7 Partition onto the initial screen so I don't have to F10 and then choose, want it so I can choose either one on the same screen by default. 2. Set the Windows 7 Partition as Default as I let my sister use my PC a lot and want it to load into Windows 7 after the timeout ends that I set, that way if I am using it i'll just change the selection to MAC OS Want to set it up this way as then I'll spend more and more time on the MAC Side if I'm on my PC, cept when I am gaming or using something I can only work in windows for. That make sense ? If so please help lol Jamie. EDIT: Also, I have that same UK Keyboard problem, and my languages are set to United Kingdom and British everywhere, yet I still don't have " in the right place (see lol, I meant to put @ lol)

ltuff1
Wow, nice job on this install package! Up and running SL 6.2 on my EP45T-UD3LR with minimal effort (as promised!) using the 1.1 beta CD method (would not install with BIOS F6 but went fine on F5 without extras installed, recognized my GTX260, Firewire and Bluetooth keyboard/mouse, two monitors, audio and microphone automatically). Have been using it with Final Cut Pro 7 without problem. Thought I'd give the newer 1.3 beta with built-in EP45T support a try on an empty drive but have had less success (USB or CD). Although it seems to install fine, after running the install.pkg and rebooting it freezes at the blue screen. Running in verbose mode indicates a KP noting "CPU 2 has no HPET assigned to it". The BIOS (F5) is set up as it was for the 1.1 install (ie AHCI, S3(STR), HPET 64-bit on with the CPU Enhanced Halt, Thermal Monitor, and EIST Function disabled) which is still running fine as is. Wouldn't mind getting this newer beta running as I assume it has a DSDT specific to the 45T board, and hopefully for the F6 BIOS in particular which boots a bit faster... Tusechka
Hi. I have a set Gigabyte GA-EP45t-UD3LR е7500 core 2 duo Palit GeForce 9500GT Super HDMI Fan 1 GB Snow Leo 10.6.2 I have such problems with the v1.3 beta. 1. I can not enter into sleep mode, using the power button. With version 1.0 it worked. 2. Now the video card works well only with the DVI (HDCP) output. You can easily change the screen resolution. But the analog output at boot gives only a blue screen and loads normally only in Safe mode.
