Kakewalk: Minimal effort install (EP45, EX58, P55, G41)

I would also be interested to hear about this. I am unable to purchase an EP45-UD3LR here in Canada (at least from my usual haunts) so I would like to know how this would work with the EP45-UD3L. I have read another post that everything worked well in this forum. I was just wondering if the false CPU reading might have something to do with the safe mode install.

Cheers,

Thanks again for this MrJanek.

Current working setup:

EP45-UD3L

Intel Core 2 DUO E8500 3.16MHz

Gigabyte ATI4850 1GB HDMI/DVI/VGA (fully working with dual monitors)

Snow Leopard 10.6.2

My only problem is that the CPU appears to be running slow, System profiler(and geekbench) report it as 2.07GHz. Anyone have any ideas why this is?

I've just updated GigabyteUSB.dmg and GigabyteCD.zip with the latest release of Chameleon (RC4)

With this new version all ATI (46xx, 45xx 48xx etc) cards should work right out of the box.

The following changes have been made to the installer:

Gigabyte EP45-UD3LR Changelog

v1.0
- Added Chameleon 2.0-RC4 bootloader
- Removed PlatformUUID.kext as it is now obsolete
- Simplified the guide

There is also a new package called GigabyteBoot.zip

This is for those of you who have already installed Snow Leopard and want to upgrade.

As always, refer to the first post for the download links

Hi. I have a motherboard GA-EP45T-UD3LR. The only difference in the type of memory. EP45T has ddr3. Can I use your method?

Yes, although you may have to edit some files. I believe there are some instructions posted by someone in this thread.

Will I be able to use wireless keyboard and mouse?

Yes, as long as the receiver is connected by USB

Any compatible bluetooth device?

"All bluetooth devices" should work as long as your bluetooth dongle is supported by OS X.

EP45-UD3L just works. 10.6.2 update no problem.

First of all mrjanek;

Thank You Sooooooo Much for your great work.

Everything just ROCKS.

Instruction is simple and easy to understand.

Unlike other postings/sites which won't tell you how to install, while asking frustrated forum visitors to search the google, forum and/or study kext etc, your files and instructions are totally easy to follow and step-by-step.

Again thanks for your great work, help and support.

Should be able to update just fine.

Na, didn't work for me, I saw the "You need to restart your computer . . ." screen.

I had a backup, so didn't matter much.

System works very well with 10.6, though. Even Elgato EyeTV!

Would updating to RC4 make an update to 10.6.2 possible?

Will donate next week (also to AsereBLN)

Thank you,

J. Daehn, Hannover

Thanks

I'd suggest installing the bootloader update that you can find in the first post and then try to upgrade to 10.6.2.

I just made a Backup and will give it a shot right now.

No cigar, it didn't work. Got a KP after a few seconds into the system. I am using the same specs as AsereBLN used for his system in his guide, if that helps. Just the mainboard is the UD3LR. And the CPU is a 8300, I think.

AsereBLN's config

EDIT:

I just removed the PlatformUUID.kext-Thing and now it works.

Thanks,

Actually it didn't work. When I switched to internal audio -> KP. But I found out why: your update-pkg didn't ask to which drive/partition it should be installed to and I have 3: "Failsafe", "Hackintosh HD" and "Daten". When I manually copied the whole "Extra" and Realtek-whatever to the respective folders on Hackintosh HD it worked flawless. Maybe you can add a fork in the installer where it asks to what drive it should put the files? I know I have a special setup, most people probably have a one drive one partition setup.

Best regards,

Well, that KPed some 5 minutes later. I then booted partition "Failsafe" and started your installer, but I guess it doesn't fully install everything. Maybe it does for a USB stick, I don't know. I just copied everything by hand and now . . . I don't know. Up to now it (Hackintosh HD partition) works. But another reason for a multi-partiton setup :-))

I hope my beta-testing helps somehow . . .

EDIT:

Installer didn't update the USB-Stick neither. So I did it by hand.

That's very strange.. It's working just fine here. I've installed the update on three computers already. What does the log say? Window -> Installer log

Another KP after about 5 minutes. Hm. Maybe I should have updated after manually replacing "Extra" . . .

That's why I called it "Hackintosh HD", we're all hackers, to a different degree of course, me being merely an advanced user. :-))

So hopefully the dmg will work.

Just uploaded a new version of GigabyteBoot.zip that removes the PlatformUUID.kext file. Try that one.

Random KPs are most often caused by file permission issues. Try running the application "Kext Utility" and then reboot.

Thought of that, too. I'll give it a try.

Thanks,

Joerg

Awww no! Still KP after logon. And my DMG of that drive seems damaged, too. Okay, I am off for a week.

I hope everybody else has more luck than me.

That sucks :thumbsup_anim:

Anyone had success with the upgrade?

As I said earlier it works well on the computers I've tried it on. Not a single KP.

I think I have spoted the common denominator for this problem, the Q8300 ..... remember I also had problems with this and KP after upgrade ..... I'll also have a look into this later in the week. will also grab the new files, and try both single drive and multi-partitions. also on my main partition after I changed it to run 32bit (i386) it trashed my install .... lucky for backup

Edit

PS Had no clue what SEK is ..... hope that is worth at least a beer :D

Just awesome.

It works!

I installed the newest version (Dec,14,09) on my USB jump drive. Install went smooth and perfect. Recognizes my 9400GT, ethernet, etc.

I am currently installing 10.6.2 update via software update. Report below

Edit:12/14/09 Snow Leopard update to 10.6.2 went smooth. No problems with restart. Doing second auto-update now.

Edit:12/14/09 all updates installed. NO PROBLEMS YET!

Edit:12/14/09 Problems encountered! Firewire card NOT detected. I will search for a solution. The card is a TI 1394 card that was recognized before I installed this new system.

I have to correct myself: I have a Q8200. Now I am wondering if I should have bought a Q6600 (there was none available.)

Well, we will see.

OT:

As for my DMG: if the DMG is bigger (70 vs. 100GB) than the system partiton, but resides on an 800 GB partiton, will MacOS on the 70GB partition be able to mount it?

Thank you,
