Well everybody, i was just reading intels site and i found this:

Intel Core 2 Extreme demonstrated with 3.5 GHz

Santa Clara (CA) - Intel today gave yet another glimpse of the capability of its soon-to-be-launched Core microarchitecture. While the processor will launch at 2.93 GHz, Intel shows the CPU already running at significantly higher speeds. Perhaps most interesting is the chip's lower than expected power consumption - which may give Intel enough headroom to break the 4 GHz barrier.

and this

3.5 GHz and more may not be an unrealistic level for overclocked Core 2 Extreme processors - in fact, the processor may scale very well beyond that right from the start and without any extreme cooling requirements. One reason for that is the Core 2 Extreme's very low power consumption: Compared to AMD's current flagship, the 2.8 GHz Athlon64 FX-62, which is rated at a thermal design power of 125 watts, the Core 2 Extreme will consume a maximum of just 75 watts, according to Intel.

Well i think that this means that Apple will be releasing its desktop PC's early April or Late July.

This is just an educated guess but i cant wait till i can get dual 3.5 Ghz glory. :withstupid:

Also just for Energy saving people here is something to droole about

In that respect, we hear that a 4 GHz Conroe may consume about as much power as the current Netburst generation, which tops out at more than 130 watts. However, the performance gain for overclockers may be worth to sacrifice the power savings: Intel today claims that a 2.66 GHz Conroe processor will outrun a 2.6 GHz Athlon64 FX-60 by about 20%. The 2.93 GHz Extreme version will provide another 20% in added performance, Intel claims. Add to that equation an overclockable chip with 20 or 30% headroom and Intel may have a chip at hand that can cause more than just headaches for rival AMD.

Hm. It's going to be Apple's High Performance Desktop Computer... It's going to be able to do everything the lesser Apple's just cant. So... I guess it should be called PC.

JK.

A good name would be Apple Core. You know... cause, Apple's logo is of a bitten Apple... and it's the Core 2 Duo? And it's the Core of any creative professional's life.

:hysterical:

LOL. Big Mac. If Apple used that name, they'd have to create some long backstory of why that name belongs to them. Apple's fantastic at lying and schnookering, so it shouldnt be too much of a problem.

I'm sure a "genuine" copy of Ray Kroc's will might be found, where he will have bequeathed to Apple Computer the Registered Trademark of "Big Mac".

Yeah but look at the current prices of the dual core anything top of the line $1000.00.

Hopefully AMD will come up with something, forcing Intel to price cut - remember, if it wasn't for AMD Athlon, we would still be paying $400 for a 50hz gain! :gun:

AMD put an end to that foolishness along with RAMBUS.

Then of course there is this....

http://www.tomshardware.com/2006/05/10/dual_41_ghz_cores/

Also at toms is a first look at some new chips...the gains are not that huge, and if they are you WILL pay for them.

Personally, I'm thinking about trying a new set up...with onboard GMA until ATIX1600 dual display sorted out, with a INTEL chipset and maybe the 805 clocked to 3.8, or maybe just keep what I got.

Mine basically is a dual G5 for $490 so I can't complain too much and if I go the 805 route, I would save even more, but the memory would required an extra $50 for OCZ, something that can get high FSB easy and a steel, quiet case....

Yeah i was going to upgrade now, But i have 3 main reasons i'm not:

1: Intel "Conroe" chips are coming out, which are just better in all aspects.

2: Im going to buy a new motherboard later on in the year anyway so i might as well wait

and

3: I dont have enough money to do so at the moment :hysterical:

I see them most likely putting it in the Power Mac, as that is still PPC and livening it up with a name like "Power Mac Extreme" and all that jazz ;)

As much as I'd like a notebook, I'm still a desktop junkie, so maybe get what's coming out. :hysterical:

Hey, we should have a contest to see who can guess what the new desktop will be named!

I'ts rumored that the "Mac Pro" is going to be multi prossesor (not just multi core, like current ones), at least on higher end models. so people espect woodcrest on the Power Mac replacemnt.

Woodcrest will be the first server and workstation chip by intel using the core microarchitecture

Yeah woodcrest is awesome. read at the top of this topic ^.

I was goign to buy one (or probably still am) the good thin gis that its Dual-Core and the mobo is Multi-Processor so i could or we could aheva Quad Core Intel Beast.

P.S Woodcrests can be overclocked extremely well so if you were gogint to buy one buy the 2.8 version or the 3.0 GhZ version as these are the cheapest and offer best value fo rmoney ( if your not afraid of changing some settings)

not sure if everyone's read this or not but it's the initial conroe benchmarks compared with the fx-62 from tom's hardware.

It looks very promising especially since the test chip wasn't a final version and it wasnt on their standardized system.
