seanbperiod
I installed the 10.4.6 HotISO fine, and i set up and configured chain0 in the boot.ini.. upon reboot, I'm given my selection of windows and osx, and when i select osx, the screen blanks, then takes me back to the windows bootloader.. it doesn't even take me to the darwin bootloader.. i've installed and used OSX successfully in the past, but for some reason it's not working this time around with this installation.. does anyone have any tips/tricks to get this running? thanks in advance- Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/19493-jas-1046-install-went-fine-cant-load-it/ Share on other sites
pabloX
I have the exact same problem. Installed XP on one partition, then after installing 10.4.6, it boots right back into XP. Even after adding the chain0 line it doesn't work. Can anyone help us? Rammjet
Diskpart in Windows or Partition Magic or Acronis can set the partition active. Rammjet
don't know what else to tell you. I haven't ever seen a successful resolution except to reinstall and make sure you follow a good installation guide to be sure you caught everything. seanbperiod
i like the second guide that is mentioned on the wiki for 10.4.6- it seems pretty simple- except i would rather use the windows bootloader over acronis-because acronis takes too long to load.. is there any workaround that uses the same simple installation method with chain0? niteman1969
I havent got my osx partition as active and use chain0 and it works fine. All you have to do is hit F8 as soon as you hit the enter key to boot osx. Takes a fast finger or else it comes back to windows boot menu. Rammjet
Just find one with chain0 and substitute that part for the Acronis steps. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/19493-jas-1046-install-went-fine-cant-load-it/#findComment-127789 Share on other sites
Shaunyboy
Hey, I have a similar problem that I thought I'd add to this thread. I get a chain booting error when I try to boot OS X. I have had it installed before with no problems. I also know that my partition type is A7 rather than AF, but for the life of me, can not work out how to change this during or before the install. I erased the drive with Disk Utility during the install and chose "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)". Can anyone help me find how to set my partition as AF? Thanks. seanbperiod
during the first phase of my problem, it turns out that my partitions were overlapping.. i decided to follow the second guide on the wiki for 10.4.6 to the T, and i get an error from acronissaying the the OS selector cannot find the necessary configuration files.. i've reinstalled acronis, and keep getting the same result. i've no clue what to do.. the chain0 method still brings me back to the windows bootloader.. Rammjet
In the guide you are using, there are steps 3, 4, 3, 5.... Did you do the 2nd step 3: list disk select disk [the number of your disk] create partition primary id=af Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/19493-jas-1046-install-went-fine-cant-load-it/#findComment-128009 Share on other sites
free30
ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_...es/PTEDIT32.zip is a windows program useful for editing id's and such. "the chain0 method still brings me back to the windows bootloader.." This usally means that the bootloader is running Darwin and Darwin is running the active partition, ie windows and the bootloader. You have to change boot options of Darwin or try and press F8, though I never manged it. If you have dual boot windows you could use macdrive to edit the boot options. free30 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/19493-jas-1046-install-went-fine-cant-load-it/#findComment-128012 Share on other sites

seanbperiod
ok, so with some fiddling around, i was able to install the OS Selector at boot, rather than in windows.. Acronis found the both partitions, but here's what's strange.. It only will find an OS on the mac partition.. and it boots into it fine.. but when i run the OS detection, it won't find windows. even if i set the windows partition to be bootable and active.. it won't find one.. so the only way to get back into windows is to edit the settings of the OSX to boot from the windows partition.. so my dilemma now is, how can i get the acronis os selector to discover the OS's on BOTH partitions? johnnytluxury
Im guessing here, but Ive been through many installs and have had enuff probs with active/inactive primary partitions. My advice would be to set your Mac part active, and remove chain0, using Darwins bootloader for the choices. You dont have to hit F8, and you only loose out on having XP as your active OS. Oh and do you have both installed on the same HD, by chance? If not, consider making your HD with Mac on it, if you still want it primary active, to being set on the Primary IDE channel (master). im told that works, but Ive not tried it myself. voggorb
bringing up this topic... Does anyone have a working solution to the problem where clicking osx brings you back to the windows bootloader?? I used the jas 10.4.6.install.dvd.iso and made a logical FAT32 partition which i installed osx on (after the xp partition), with the right patches from the customize menu. Using acronis whithout chain0, i get "HFS+ partition error". With chain0, it brings me back to windows bootloader. I converted the osx partition to primary, which worked, and then i could also make it active. but every time i reboot it makes it inactive, so the xp partition is active instead. kj666k
All you have to do is hit F8 as soon as you hit the enter key to boot osx. Niteman1969 You can actually set the timer time so u wont have to be a cowboy and draw fast to boot windows. Just search the forums and you'll find it.
