I've recently bought MSI U200 notebook that uses Pentium Dual-Core SU4100 CPU (Penryn-3M CULV core, 2M L2 cache) but is in similar dimensions as U100 that uses Atom CPU. It also uses GMA4500MHD for graphics. As I noticed, there's a 'SnowyWindOSX' project that aims to get Snow Leopard on Wind notebooks, but it seems to target Atom-based U100 only.

Nevertheless, I tried getting SL using the 'vanilla' way, with Chameleon 2.0RC3 bootloader and Netkas PC EFI 10.5. I used the 'Extra' folder from this thread: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=191255 .

Unlike other folders I tried, this one actually got me to boot to the first setup screen. Problem is, it does not apparently recognise the keyboard or the touchpad, seeing how I can't move the cursor or anything. So I attached a USB keyboard and mouse to see if anything is different. Turns out the mouse can move the cursor, but I can't click anything. Nothing on the screen is responsive. So I'm now not sure if it's a hardware device problem or that the setup process somewhat froze at that point.

If anyone has seen a similar problem and know how to get around the issue, please help out. Thanks.

Well I was considering buying one of these to do same as you.

Have you tried ordinary Leopard (not Snow)? Do you know exactly what hardware the thing has (Realtek ALCxxx sound or Realtek RTL8xxx LAN) - care to share? Trackpad make/model?

ISTR that the GMA4500MHD will only do fixed resolutions and no QI/CE so that's not great.

I managed to install ideneb 1.6 (10.5.8)

It takes 6 minutes to boot but it works except for Wifi, Sleep and photobooth tells me that i need a Quartz card or something similar..

Video uses the GMA4500_Native_Resolution patch

Probably not the best choice to use with osx86 but it runs and i can play with it when i want :D

Some more info? What LAN and Sound chips please?

Does the BIOS support AHCI or not? Really slow boot might mean not or might mean the ICH isnt recognised/patched properly?

Off topic but whats battery life like and have you tried any OLD games on it under XP or W7 ??

Kernel--> Vanilla 9.8.0

Chipset--> ICHxFixed

Video--> nothing at install- added GMA4500_Native_Resolution later

Audio--> VoodooHDA

Ethernet--> realtek r1000

Wireless-> intel 5100 agn (not working i had a usb dongle that works)

x86patches--> voodooTrackpad

I think AHCI is enabled in bios... (i have to check that...)

sleep is not working either!

Any old games? like what?

Thanks.. maybe try switching AHCI on/off and diff ICH patches. Might be worth a try with Hazard Snow Leopard distro?

Re the old games..well my "old" fave is Red Faction but something from that sort of era eg Quake3, Wolfenstein, Call of Duty 1/2? All review says its no good for gaming but it depends if your trying COD2 or COD 4/5/6!!!

does anybody know if the snowywindosx will work on the msi u200c045?

Probably not, as it has completely other hardware installed than the original Msi Wind. I'm really hoping that our experts here will get snow leopard work on those "11,6inch,Intel CULV, 4500M" Netbooks. I wanted to get one soon.

I did try installing hazard 10.6.2...

but it only boots in safe mode!

i get kernel panic on AHCI ...

need more testing... since the options are different from ideneb...

I'll keep you posted...

Googling tells me

Sound ALC888S-VC2-GR - should be fine

LAN - Realtek RTL8111/8169 - should be fine (R1000 kext)

Video - GMA 4500MHD - the problem area

WLAN - Intel - replace with a Dell/Broadcom and then fine

I never tried to install without gma4500 kext...

but it did boot in safe mode (-x) i did not managed to boot in normal mode! :)

i'm pretty happy with 10.5.8

i'll wait for ideneb 10.6

1) try reading my earlier posts :D

2) try looking for AHCI options in BIOS. Enable it and then install and see ;)

3) boot in verbose mode and see where the delays are (where its pausing or take ages to go past a given point)

4) report back ;)
