I've tried a number of ways to get my usb drive installer to boot on my gateway 7805u but to no avail. I've successfully installed snow leopard on my desktop (MSI Neo2-FR, q6600, 8GB RAM, GTX 260) using the same usb drive.

I tried using the automator by dj nitehawk initially since it worked for my desktop, but there seems to be errors in the compilation of dsdt.aml. I got a KP almost immediately with a message about the number of cpu cores.

I next tried the x58 installer and used EFI instead of chameleon. This got me a tad further but I ran into the ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin KP.

Any ideas?

Is there no one trying to install Snow Leopard on a Gateway 7805u? It's a notebook with the PM45 chipset with 9800M GTS 1GB, 4GB of DDR3 RAM and a c2d P8400 processor.

Or is there someway I can get around the KP due to ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin? I've disabled virtualization and legacy USB in BIOS and even took out one of my DDR3 ram modules but no luck so far.

If someone has a working dsdt file for the 7805u, I'd also appreciate it!

Theres a trick to get it to book with the F10 option and show the USB HDD with the boot files.

You have to enable legacy just for the install portion and willneed a usbmouse only. (Dont plug in the mouse till the install gui is loaded and you see the curser) once theinstall is done and you are rebooting the min you get the bios prompt you can press and go and disable. I did a generic no extra kexts using the retail and can semi get it going. If I make some headway ill post more.

I did get it to boot using my USB drive installer with snow image restored on it and chameleon bootloader.

The problem is I get a KP once the boot-up process gets to ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin. Is there some kext I should have in my Extras folder to fix this?

Thanks for the replies!
