1. Uninstall Sigmatel audio driver from your system

2. Install (or better just update via Device Manager) Sigmatel Audio driver v.5.10.4991:

http://downloadmirror.intel.com/df-support...4_MCE_2K_V5.EXE

If you get an error during install complaining that the "software isnt compatible with your board...bla bla bla", ignore this-its just referring to the Intel Audio Studio it's trying to install :D

3. Download this .zip and doubleclick .reg file inside it

4. Go to Device Manager and disable->enable Sigmatel Audio driver or reboot (headphones works now)

5. Open stacgui.cpl, located in ...Program Files\Sigmatel\C-Major Audio\STACGUI and switch to Rear Mic under 'Recording Control' (internal speakers works now)

thats all,both works and headphones mutes speakers :)

P.S. It WORKS on my mackbook pro 17' and MAYBE on other systems (of course i can't guarantee)

gpio.zip

Tried this on my 1.8 MB and all i get is no sound no matter what i select in the sound applet, tried another version of the sigmatel drivers and all i got was audio out of the right speaker and no headphone, had to reinstall the driver from the apple driver directory under program files to get the sound back again

I only get external audio still on my MacBook pro 15" 1.83Ghz

however I now get a tick on the headphone port when something is plugged in. Previously it was showing a question mark.

Only thing I didn't do was uninstall my old drivers, is this important?

To support other models-if you are familiar with windows registry please go to Start->Run->Regedit.exe->HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E96C-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

And then expand it and you'll see many folders named 0000,0001,0002 ... etc. Click on 0000 and scroll down with arrows keys on your keyboard in order to see "DriverDesc"="SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC" string at the right pane. In my case its in the 0015 folder. Yours may be in 0005 or other. Post number please.

that got me headphones but neither internal speaker works even after setting the mic to the rear setting. if i click on the jack setup tab and on the green (rear) jack and say front speakers are plugged in i get audio out the right speaker but it sounds like its muffeled or something

no-go the only drivers that seem to work are the boot-camp 5.10.4889.0 drivers and the control panel app with that one doesnt show the soundcard as being a multi-channel one (ie no rear / front inputs) hell it doesnt even show the mic in the recording pane, just spdif and line, and with the gpio the setting sound still comes out both the speaker and the jack, this is on a regular macbook (nonpro) so they may have wired somethign wack internally...

i have a 17 inch mbp 2.16ghz and I can only get the headphones to work, not the speakers, any suggestions? When I was supposed to uninstall the sigmatel drivers, was I supposed to do anything more than click on remove sigmatel in the add/remove programs menu? Because I didnt.
