jrhende
Updated to El Capitan preliminary GM. Sleep doesn't work reliably. Updated my Yosemite to use Clover to isolate the problem. That configuration sleeps fine. Something with El Capitan causes my EX58-UD5 to not reliably sleep. Was going to transition to 10.11 permanently but now will have to wait until that problem is solved. Any ideas would be appreciated.
VirusX
are you still using a DSDT? What is causing your system to not sleep properly? check the system log what driver/service is waking your system up. Or does your system not go to sleep in the first place? jrhende
Ensured DSDT not used. Using config.plist from my Yosemite partition that works perfect. Same kext used as in Yosemite. The result is that when sleep is started the system wakes right back up. The log is as follows: 9/16/15 7:35:52.000 PM kernel[0] Sound assertion in AppleHDADriver at line 5761 9/16/15 7:35:52.000 PM kernel[0] Sound assertion in AppleHDADriver at line 676 9/16/15 VirusX
9/16/15 7:36:33.000 PM kernel[0] Wake reason: RTC USB0 (Alarm) I suspect that your USB hub is causing the wake up. Or another USB device (USB0). Try to find out which one it is. http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/300072-wake-reason-rtc-alarm-how-to-deactivate/ that thread might also be interesting to read for you since it is also and RTC alarm. My USB bluetooth dongle wakes my computer up too. But interestingly, I found out that the computer tries to go back to sleep immediately afterwards again and that time it works. I put my computer to sleep, it wakes up again because of bluetooth, I do nothing and after a few seconds, it goes back to sleep and stays put So maybe wait a few seconds too? edit: oh wait... what I described was in yosemite... Haven't tested El Capitan thoroughly enough to say if it's the same there...
nabziF99
Preface: My board is EX58-UD5, F12 BIOS. I thought it might help to write down all the steps again for the final Yosemite version.. Step by Step Guide for Yosemite on our EX58-UD5 and Clover . . . 4) boot from clover usb drive and select yosemite usb installer. Follow through the steps and install yosemite on your hard drive 5) boot from clover usb drive and select hard drive with the installed yosemite. 6) add/apply toleda's audio patch to clover's config and run his script. We have audio codec 885 (which equals to 889a) DONE I know it's been awhile since these nice and concise steps were posted, but I'm stuck at step 6. The link points to CloverALC, so I downloaded it (audio_CloverALC-master.zip), proceeded with the instructions there (i.e. "Double click: Downloads/audio_cloverALC-110.command"), and got this: File: audio_cloverALC-110.command_v1.0f EFI partition is not mounted Confirm Clover Legacy Install (y/n): y /Volumes/[path]/audio_CloverALC-master/audio_cloverALC-110_v1.0f.command: line 318: [: /Volumes/[Yosemite drive]: binary operator expected /Volumes/[Yosemite drive]/EFI/CLOVER not found No system files were changed (portions enclosed in brackets are unique to my system so I've redacted them) I figured maybe this meant I was supposed to first mount the USB drive's EFI partition even though that wasn't mentioned in the guide. So I did so, but that appears to be empty. I wasn't too surprised, because when I followed step 1 to create a USB installer, google led me here, and following the steps there appears to have installed Clover into a folder named "EFI" on the USB's main partition rather than in its EFI partition - and somehow it boots. Nevertheless, after mounting that EFI partition I ran toleda's script again, and predictably got the same error. So then I ejected that EFI, and instead mounted my Yosemite hard drive's EFI partition. It didn't yet have Clover (installing Clover to the Yosemite hard drive isn't mentioned until step 7), so that too was futile. So I thought maybe what the script is looking for is Clover installed in the Yosemite hard drive. So I did that (thereby skipping step 6). I rebooted, mounted the Yosemite hard drive's EFI partition, went back to try step 6 again, and get this: EFI partition is mounted Boot/Arguments = kext-dev-mode=1 found Error: no IOReg/HDEF; BIOS/audio/disabled or ACPI problem No system files were changed I googled that error, and all relevant hits seem to point here. I followed those troubleshooting steps which led me to add HDEF...at which point I stopped, thinking I must have made a wrong turn much earlier, otherwise VirusX would have mentioned all this. Step 6 sounded so much simpler... So I'm guessing there are two possibilities here: either I took a wrong turn on step 1 (i.e. I should have created the install USB based on some other guide than the ##### one due to the way it installed Clover I mentioned above)...or toleda has modified his script so much since VirusX's post that I'm missing some additional steps somewhere. Has anyone followed VirusX's steps lately using current versions (Yosemite 10.10.5, Clover v2.3k r3270, audio_cloverALC-110)? If so, have you encountered errors like the ones I've listed, and have an idea as to what I'm missing? (maybe I just need to proceed with taleda's troubleshooting steps?) Thanks! @ROBASEFR
USB Installers don't have EFI in ESP ! They have the EFI folder in the same place as the App and System folder. But you don't need audio configuration in the install process ! For the audio configuration: As the name suggests "audio_cloverALC-110.command" is for Clover boot only ! That command ads patches in the config.plist in the partition 0 of your disk:(ie) \EFI\CLOVER and only if this EFI partition is mounted and visible on your desktop ! I saw that you found that! Ok Your error message suggests: that you have to modify your bios to have HDEF support. (Azalia in the BIOS) and or you have to use an appropriate DSDT /SSDT for your MOBO ! EFI partition is mountedBoot/Arguments = kext-dev-mode=1 foundError: no IOReg/HDEF; BIOS/audio/disabled or ACPI problemNo system files were changed I suggest you try this DSDT first from dood http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/196771-ga-ex58-and-ga-x58a-dsdt-native-power-management-modifications/ DSDT_GA_EX58_UD5_F9m_S3_v6.zip If you use Clover put it in : EFI/CLOVER/ACPI/patched Success ! jrhende
Loaded latest official 10.11. Still have sleep problems. Note that could not get kexts to load from 10.11 or Others. Used a kext installer tool to install kexts like AppleHDA to get my audio to work. The tool must be placing them in S/L/E or the equivalent. Rather use the former method but gave up. Was able to upgrade 10.10 to 10.11 and keep all my applications and etc.
jrhende
Solved it. Narrowed down the issue where on sleep the system would immediately wake up. Removed USB Bluetooth DBT-122 and system would sleep. Didn't want to have to manually remove the DBT-122 every time needing to go to sleep (not desirable for auto sleep) so I used the kexts from 10.10.5 which were IOBluetoothFamily and IOBluetoothHIDDriver and the system can sleep and wake fine (two tests successful so far). Identifying the appropriate kexts was determined empirically. No apparent loss of functionality observed. Therefore, the transition to El Capitan is complete. This will be the last OS X version on the trusty EX58-EXTREME cross flashed to EX58-UD5. Not using any DSDT.aml and the config.plist is vanilla except for a few cosmetic tweaks taken from @ROBASEFR. Thanks VirusX for your help.
nabziF99
Thanks for the reply Robasefr! Just a couple clarifications: USB Installers don't have EFI in ESP ! They have the EFI folder in the same place as the App and System folder. But you don't need audio configuration in the install process ! Ah, so VirusX's step 7 (install clover to hard drive) should have come before step 6 (apply audio patch)? Your error message suggests: that you have to modify your bios to have HDEF support. (Azalia in the BIOS) and or you have to use an appropriate DSDT /SSDT for your MOBO ! ... I suggest you try this DSDT first from dood Oh...I had thought since I have the same board as VirusX (GA-EX58-UD5) that I could simply use his steps and not need a DSDT, as per his earlier post: I don't have a custom DSDT in my clover folder (like ROBASEFR has). Everything I need to be patched (orange icons, SSD trim, CMOS reset, Graphic inject), is inserted/created by Clover while booting. ...so does this sound like VirusX already modified his BIOS to have HDEF support and just forgot to mention it? jc84
Yes, I have installed 10.11 on two machine X58A-UD5 with GTX480 and SurfacePro 3 Both with Clover. I built the installer with this method http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/307003-clover-os-x-el-capitan-usb/page-1 and used ROBASEFR dstd.aml a few posts up. Audio is great. should have updated to this ages ago.

Thanks *: The BIOS corruption leads to the following behavior at startup: When I press the power button, the motherboard starts (internal leds light up, all fans start) and after less than a second, everything stops. And then it restarts again... and stops again after a second, and so forth... Symptoms look like an hardware issue, but clearing CMOS with the "Clr CMOS" switch solves it. VirusX
sorry for my late reply - haven't been around here in a while. or toleda has modified his script so much since VirusX's post that I'm missing some additional steps somewhere. yes that is indeed correct. He basically rewrote the script from scratch. Now the script looks up which codec you need etc automatically. More comfortable for most users I guess. The standard installation method in now on the EFI partition. Advantage: it survives any software updates. Disadvantage: usb installs don't have an EFI partition. Ah, so VirusX's step 7 (install clover to hard drive) should have come before step 6 (apply audio patch)? ...so does this sound like VirusX already modified his BIOS to have HDEF support and just forgot to mention it? yes, for toleda's patch to work, clover now has to be installed first onto the hard drive. I have never modified HDEF in BIOS - that's why I didn't mention it As far as I remember from my El Capitan test install on a spare partition, toleda's new script can also patch the AppleHDA. I don't recall what selections I made during the run of his script but it worked... But as soon as I update El Capitan, patch needs to be reapplied. If your system works fine besides the sound, install clover to your hard drive in the EFI partition, apply the patch (install in EFI partition) and you should be fine Good luck
iCore
Updated ! I have put my comments in red. For your Nvidia graphic card , Install the latest webdrivers 346.03.02f02 once you have installed OSX. Install OSX with nv_disable=1 in / Boot and put after webdriver install nvda_drv=1 then reboot ! Good luck Thanks for your comments, it was cristal clear. I followed your "instructions" and change my Clover configuration accordingly (replacing my DSDT and config with yours, and using the kexts you mentionned). The only things I didn't do, was to put the ApplePCIIDE (as I don't have any IDE device). and I did not follow you nvidia instructions, as my GTX660 is not handled by nvdia drivers (only GTX680 is). Instead I used the NVCAP string I was already using in my config.plist So the Graphics key looks like this (in case it may help people having the same graphic card: MSI N660 Gaming 2GB/OC TwinFrozr ) <key>Graphics</key> <dict> <key>Inject</key> <dict> <key>ATI</key> <false/> <key>Intel</key> <false/> <key>NVidia</key> <false/> </dict> <key>NvidiaSingle</key> <false/> <key>NVCAP</key> <string>050000000000FFFFFFFF00000000000E00000000</string> </dict> It works perfectly, with 2 screens: one is plugged in DVI, the second which is 4K using display port I also kept the VoodooHDA kext, until I investigate the toleda patch thing. Anyway, everything seems to works perfectly (sleep, poweroff, network, ...) Thank you very much.

minomus
I hope this question is okay to ask here, since the topic regarding the script for Snow Leopard links here.My situation is that I have had a Hackintosh for music producing since 2010, installed using digital_dreamers script. After unsuccessful .kext installation the OS went useless. There are tons of reasons I have not updated it further than 10.6.3 and I'd like to keep it that way. It's been many years since I built the machine, so I've lost a bit the touch when it comes to Hackintosh things and probably some things have changed.First of all, my rig: Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5Intel i7 920 8gb RAMATI Radeon HD 4830 dual-dvi OSX 10.6.3 (hopefully could keep it that way)Especially because of the graphics card, it was quite a mess to get working in first place. Doing a clean install is something i'd like to avoid if possible, as it would require days worth of installing to get back to my works in progress. So, I booted from USB installation stick, restored partition where Hackintosh was installed using Snow Leopard installer's restore/Time Machine. I've tried several ways to continue from there after managing to boot in safe mode, but always ended up with kernel panics of many kinds and therefore restoring again. Maybe it's worty to mention that I also ended up changing the installation partition to another one of two HDDs.While waiting for restore to complete again, my question is what should I do after the Hackintosh partition is restored? Is just running kext enabler in first safe boot enough? Am I correct assuming that restored (week old) partition should have right kexts and also right DSDT.aml in right places already? Or maybe only install the bootloader again using the script? Please help, I've wasted couple of days here already Another question is does anybody still have netkas Exotic patch 10.6.3 still somewhere? Can't find any mirrors as the original source is down and can't get ##### pkg opened (i think it contains it, but I don't want to mix things up with using ##### on recovered unclean install.) @ROBASEFR
Hello, I asume your old rig used Chameleon bootloader ? I moved for a while now on Clover, so you have to look elsewhere if you stay with that.... First of all your rig should work well with latest 10.11.1 ! Latest QE/CI patch for your graphic card from fantomas1 is here http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/files/file/415-qe-ci-exotic-patch/ An old Exotic patch for 10.6.8 is attached You could going on with the USB stick as bootunit meanwhile you fiddleup your old configuration If you decide to move to Yosemite or El Capitan with Clover Bootloader I can strongly advise you to use the install USB method from Chris1111 here :http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/files/file/471-clover-v23k-special-edition-v2/ His site is here with tutos and a lot more (but in french) ! http://www.hackintosh-montreal.com/ 1427-QE_CI_Exotic patch for 10.6.8.zip.zip Good luck
nabziF99
sorry for my late reply - haven't been around here in a while. yes that is indeed correct. He basically rewrote the script from scratch. Now the script looks up which codec you need etc automatically. More comfortable for most users I guess. The standard installation method in now on the EFI partition. Advantage: it survives any software updates. Disadvantage: usb installs don't have an EFI partition. yes, for toleda's patch to work, clover now has to be installed first onto the hard drive. If your system works fine besides the sound, install clover to your hard drive in the EFI partition, apply the patch (install in EFI partition) and you should be fine Good luck VirusX, thanks for the response! However I'm still stuck; I installed Clover on the hard drive, it seems to boot ok (though it would spontaneously reboot itself until I added NullCPUPowerManagement.kext). But I'm still getting the error from my previous post when running audio_cloverALC-110_v1.0f.command: EFI partition is mounted Boot/Arguments = kext-dev-mode=1 found Error: no IOReg/HDEF; BIOS/audio/disabled or ACPI problem No system files were changed Did I miss something? The only thing in my BIOS settings I see regarding audio is Integrated Peripherals->Azalia Codec->Auto...does that sound right? Toleda's troubleshooting guide leads to more steps that you didn't mention (stuff about adding HDEF, dsdt, ssdt, etc), that seems to have a dead end, so I figured maybe it's something wonky in the Clover config.plist I'm using. So I replaced it with the fresh vanilla config.plist the Clover installer created, rebooted, ran cloverALC, and now get this: EFI partition is mounted Boot/Arguments = kext-dev-mode=1 found No audio codec detected Toleda's troubleshooting guide sends me to the same place for this - adding HDEF, but then a dead end. Since our boards are basically identical, I'm hoping there's a simple step I'm missing that you might know about. Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks! <edited to abide by a forum rule I missed earlier>
@ROBASEFR
Toleda has made some changes... http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/308387-el-capitan-realtek-alc-applehda-audio/ Mirone here: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/297562-applehdapatcher/ Or this new patcher by Mickey1979 and Mirone: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/files/file/496-applehda-patcher/
nabziF99
I'm hoping there's a simple step I'm missing Update: success! Indeed the problem was relatively simple: Clover's config.plist was a "mess", wreaking havoc with toleda's script, as he pointed out. Changing config.plist/Devices/Audio/#Inject/0x0887 to config.plist/Devices/Audio/Inject/1 allowed the script to work its magic. (Apparently pound signs are used to comment lines out, and Clover's default config starts out with basically everything commented out. Not sure what's with the default value of 0x0887, but that's a question for another place.)
jrhende
Thanks to @ROBASEFR After upgrading to 10.11.2 noticed CMOS reset problem again. The perl script mechanism to patch my AppleRTC kext didn't fix it this time. (I have read that that patch makes the code jump over the call to reset the CMOS.) Took the ACPI section from his config.plist and put back the d00d DSDT.aml and problem gone. Not sure which thing did it. The problem manifests itself by not fully waking from sleep and my motherboard error code displays CF meaning a CMOS checksum error. I'm standing up a new Hack using an MSI X99S AC XPOWER i7 5820K. The old EX58 is being regulated to be the family computer.
