bernito
Its been a long time since I've posted as have been running smooth for a long time thanks to MAJ's efforts. I have an EX58UD5 and have tried every single solution posted on the web to try to fix iCloud and FaceTime to no avail. I am completely perplexed as I am using your script and following every step. I can boot up and use everything else, but no matter what settings I use I get the "This Apple ID is valid but is not an iCloud account." and "The server encountered an error processing registration. Please try again later." (in FaceTime). I have tried with both Chimera v1.5.4 r1394 and Chameleon v2.1svn r1627VS, deleting the com.apple.network.identification and NetworkInterfaces plists, deleting my network connections and setting the ethernet to e0, using Champlist to update my SMbios all to no avail. Any help would be appreciated as my eyes are about to fall out after trying for 18 hours! Thanks again to MAJ for his great work and everyone's follow-up posts. My drive is GUID partitioned, not MBR, but I am hard pressed to believe that would create issues

How can I best verify this? I have tried a variety of smbios.plist formats during my troubleshooting, although most of time I used the one posted with the script. In an effort to see if the smbios.plist was the source of the problem, I did try alternative constructions without success. Thank you once again for being generous with your time, I am hopeful we can solve this as others seem to be experiencing a similar problem. digital_dreamer
bernito, When you are at the bootloader screen, there should be text at the top left corner that displays the bootloader name and revision. everdone
I finally got iCloud to work using version 1495 of chameleon with a Simbios created using Champlist. I tried later versions of Chameleon as well as Chimera (version in DD's script 6.06 and the latest out) - none of those worked.
CruiSAr
Hi Guys, I am just writing this post to say farewell . The past 2 years + on here has been wonderful and without the great minds in this forum, we couldn't have achieved so much . My family is growing bigger and I need to make space so I have parted with my hackintosh. In it's place is a 27" iMac, SSD (boot), 2 TB HD for all my data and 16Gb of Ram. I take it that it was a fair replacement . I wish to thank Maj for his wonderful work, d00d for his DSDT patching and LocusOfControl for all the help. All the best to you all and if I one day get a bigger place which I plan on doing, I will definitely get back to running a hackintosh. Safe. InsanelyOne
As always... thanks to MAJ and his awesome HackInstaller script!! Just upgraded from 10.7.0 to 10.7.2 with no issues. It was too easy. Installed the Chimera bootloader, ran the 10.7.2 Combo Update, updated the boot caches, rebooted and presto!!! I'm up and running with 10.7.2. Got FaceTime and iCloud working just fine. Haven't tried out sleep yet. I'm assuming I need a new SleepEnabler kext. I suspect I need to patch the AppleRTC kext to fix the CMOS reset as well. Thanks again to MAJ and to all that have contributed to this guide. Edit: I've also got an Apple Bluetooth card wired directly to the USB on my motherboard so I can wake from sleep via Bluetooth keyboard / trackpad. See here for details. nabziF99
I'm assuming there is a valid reason RC4 is being used in your case. Would you explain why? Thanks for your quick reply! Well...I never bothered to update because I never had a need to. If it ain't broke... Now I've updated the bootloader and nothing seems to have broken (and restart actually works now) so all's well again. Just caught me by surprise is all. So that brings me to my latest conundrum. Your step 1 for installing 10.7 says to use MBR instead of GUID, but the 10.7 boot DVD I created using the script (per instructions #2 - #5) seems to discriminate against MBR partitioned drives. It's a fresh, empty drive, 2 partitions (second partition is intended for Time Machine). After booting the DVD, when it asks to pick the destination partition for Lion it doesn't let me pick the MBR drive, saying "to install on this disk...repartition this disk using GUID Partition Table." As I understand it, something must be modified in the boot disk before OS X can install to MBR. Doesn't your script make that modification when creating the boot disk (menu #15)? If not...how can I convince it to install to MBR as you suggest in step 1? Thanks again!

Use GUID for your main OS install. I suggested MBR for the USB drive, because the Gigabyte mobos (at least the UD5, like I have) always lock up with a GUID partitioned USB drive plugged in. Sorry that wasn't clear. You're right the Hackinstaller script should be stripping out the MBR check in the installer script. I've heard of cases where it wasn't working. Not sure what's going on here. If you look at the install log, you should find "OSInstall.mpkg: Removing MBR check", where below it will list the before and after results of the modification. The "after" edit should have the eraseOptionAvailable="true" portion removed. Anyhow, this should be moot in your case, as you'll want to use GUID. But, I'm curious about why the MBR check is not working. best regards, MAJ _______________________________ I wanted to take the time to thank CruiSAr for his many contributions to the Hackintosh community, especially here in these threads. CruiSAr made available his highly edited and extremely small DSDT file for UD5 users. This was useful for fast boots and bare minimum kexts for a vanilla-as-can-be setup. I think he was down to just one kext (FakeSMC.kext). Also included in the custom DSDT were d00d's SpeedStep mods, which allowed native CPU power management. CruiSAr also offered his time and expertise in troubleshooting many issues for various users in this thread, as well. Much appreciated, especially when I would be away for long periods. Happy Macintoshing on that iMac! I envy the 27 inches of monitor goodness, the speedy SSD access, and enormous 16GB of usable memory! kind regards, MAJ
BlueSky2000
Hi DD, Can you please help me with fixing iCloud issue? I get "This Apple ID is valid but is not an iCloud account" error. I'm currently using Chameleon 1683. I've spent almost a week trying to solve this problem. in /Library/Preferences/SystemConfugration/NetworkInterfaces.plist IOBuiltin = false. Could it be causing iCloud issue? I have EthernetBuiltIn=Yes in org.chameleon.boot.plist. How could I set IOBuiltin to true? I've tried using different Chameleon, serial number, and Chimera. Still no. Thanks.
digital_dreamer
BlueSky2000, How odd. Have you tried manually removing the services in Network Preferences, then deleting the NetworkInterfaces.plist, rebooting, the adding the Network services (if they don't reappear)? If that doesn't work, you can try added a EFI string for the network. kind regards, MAJ ________________________ BTW, I will be releasing a script update that will allow you to download the Chimera v1.6 update. Right now, the script doesn't parse the 2 digit v1.6 version correctly and is not able to compare it to v1.5.4 properly. It thinks it's comparing 16 versus 154, with 154 being a higher number. nabziF99
The MBR partition is only for creating a 10.7 USB installer drive. Use GUID for your main OS install. Oh. Right. So anyway, got 10.7 running (with App Store) yay! Next step: 10.7.2 since I do want to get on the iCloud train. I hope a new iCloud-compatible version of the script (with instructions) is coming soon. After reading all the headaches people have had with getting FaceTime and iCloud working, all the different methods with varying success... even if all it takes is a more recent boot loader, downloading/compiling/installing one seems a bit complex and intimidating lol! Unless I'm making mountains out of molehills and it's really easy as pie?

digital_dreamer
nabziF99, Congrats on the Lion install! You don't need to do any compiling for the bootloaders. By default, the script will download the precompiled binaries. So, just choose option #1 to check for updates and it will find the latest update for Chameleon. Option #1 will change to "download" update, so choose it again and download it. Then, install that bootloader for your system. Done. BlueSky2000, Great news! I gather you must have created the EFI string via some other application? The script is able to do this automatically. best regards, MAJ

Cosmin Petre
Hi MAJ, Can you advise on whether this would work? I have updated iStat to the latest version for Lion and I am no longer able to monitor cpu temps etc. AFAIK this can be fixed by adding some additional fakesmc plugin kexts (ACPIMonitor.kext, IntelCPUMonitor.kext, SuperIOFamily.kext) - available through #####. Can these be installed into my fakesmc.kext plugins folder manually and caches rebuilt? Also, there already appears to be versions of ACPIMonitor.kext, SuperIOFamily.kext (alongside IntelThermal.kext) in the plugins folder - do I copy over these and delete the IntelThermal.kext? Any advice greatly appreciated. thanks
