digital_dreamer
It's been a long time since I've been around here. Had a working install, updated to 10.6.8, couldn't boot due to sleepenable.kext. So I use pmVersion=0 to bypass it. I was able to boot fine. Not knowing what I'm doing, though, I downloaded DD's updated script and ran step 3 and 4 to update the kexts and boot caches. I guess I thought they would overwrite the original files. I think I was supposed to delete the original sleepenabler first? Anyway, first time I did that nothing happened; still hangs at "System uptime in nanoseconds" because of sleepenabler. So I run the script again but this time install SleepEnabler to /System. Rebooted. Failure... PmVersoin=0 no longer works. It seems to be hanging at AppleHDADriver at line 861. I'm usually OK with PC problems but this is way out of my understanding right now. I could use a quick helping hand so I can learn to fix it my self next time. Edit: Using EX58-UD3r Sorry, melee54, for the troubles. First off, I should have just removed the SleepEnabler.kext from the default install, like I usually do, so these things don't happen. The SleepEnabler.kext does, indeed, get replaced, but it requires the pmVersion=23 flag to work properly. Additionally, it can work in /Extra. As for why it stalls or KPs, I haven't a clue. Would need more info from you. Does it actually KP or does it just stall? a new issue: Can't log in to App Store. If I try to logs in I get: anybody have this issue? ideas? Not experiencing this now but I did in the past. I know exactly what you mean by subtle lag. Could be also some issues regarding CPU compatibility maybe? Stepping and all that. I remember these stuttering problems since 2006 when I was using OSX on AMD. Honestly, this is what I was afraid, as I don't know how these kernels REALLY work, so I looked at apple, seen they will go with 1155 platform so I did too. Just to be more compatible I guess. RE: App Store issue Do you have the EthernetBuiltIn = Yes flag in the boot plist? Failing that, make sure you have proper system identification in the smbios.plist: SMproductname, SMboardproduct, SMbiosversion, etc. RE: Lag Are you using the GeneratePStates or GenerateCStates flag for the bootloader? Or modified DSDT for these sleep states? Have you checked the activity monitor for any odd processes taking up CPU time? MAJ
seanmcgpa
MAJ, Wow - easy fix! THANK YOU! When I installed Lion I forgot to add <key>GeneratePStates</key> <string>Yes</string> <key>GenerateCStates</key> <string>Yes</string> Now everything is back to as fast as it was in 10.6.8. Lion really rocks. Even got my 3ware raid card working again. Thanks for the reminder. Still owe you that kiss!
dublove
Hey Maj, I had followed your install along with Crusair's mods a long time ago and all had been well. Infact nothing has ever gone wrong! I decided to test lion on a spare ssd with your guide. Anyway I followed it to the letter, with DDST tweaks and all was ok apart from the issues you mentioned such as wake from sleep. I have fixed my wake from sleep simply by adding generate C & P states in the boot loader plist. Thats the only thing i've done - Sleepenabler is still installed as per your script etc. The only other thing is audio, works fine but we need to get it outputting on line out instead of internal speakers. Years ago I discovered that internal speakers does adjust the sound (lacking bass.) I'm sure I raised the issue on this board. Maybe i'm out of touch and this is standard knowledge now My system: ex58-ud5 (F9 bios) i7 920 @ 3.8g 12gb corsair 285gtx Can anyone tell me what the options are these days for upgrading my 285gtx? I'd like to switch to ATI, 5870 would be ok, what about the 6xxx series? Will Chameleon RC5 just pick it up or would I need to get creative with kexts? thanks, dub... If I try to boot normally, it freezes (no visible KP) with "System uptime in nanoseconds", and mentions something about the SleepEnabler before hand. I've got a picture if that information isn't useful. And when I tried booting with pmVersion=0 yesterday, it didn't freeze, just stopped doing anything as soon as it tried to load AppleHDAdriver. I was able to type and all that. I'll post screen shots in a sec'. But now that I'm in OSX, should I just delete the SleepEnabler.kext? Another question to anybody - does SleepEnabler.kext affect my windows install? Ever since I installed OSX I haven't been able to put my Win7 to sleep, haha. Or is that Chameleon's doing? digital_dreamer
melee54, If your system sleeps and wakes without the SleepEnabler, kext, you can delete that kext if you wish. That's all it's for. Your pmVersion=0 log looks normal. I suspect it is booting normally, but without graphics. Do you need the ATY_Init.kext? What graphics card are you using and how did you have it enabled before? MAJ P.S. RE: Sleep in WIN During the bootloader installation, the script should prompt you regarding your Windows install. See my notes: Added ability to install the special Stage-0 booter (boot0hfs) which makes it possible to boot from a non-active OS X partition that has a Windows installation on the same volume, thus allowing the Windows installation to remain the active partition and permit proper sleep behavior in Windows 7. Unlike the normal Stage-0 booter that prefers active partitions first, this one prefers bootable HFS partitions first. The script will prompt the user for this option when it detects a Windows installation on the volume. Only the Chameleon RC5 bootloader has this option available. Many thanks to the developers' untiring efforts in making this possible. Allow the script to install the boot0hfs booter file. The script will not set the Mac OS X partition 'active' like it normally does. However, it will still be 'active' from the previous install. I'm not familiar with the WIN setup, but somehow you will need to have Windows set its partition 'active' again. This will allow it to sleep. Someone else may chime in on some suggestions or see the "Multi-booting..." forum. Additionally, there is an option in Preferences that will allow you to always install the boot0hfs booter, if your setup requires it. MAJ
melee54
MAJ, Thanks, got everything working after I deleted the sleepenabler. Of course, I can't sleep my computer now... But it's better than nothing I guess. Whenever I install the 10.6.8 SleepEnabler, the only way I can boot is with pmVersion=23 every single time. I don't think my graphics have to do with anything, but I'm using an ATI 4870 512mb. I'm going to try installing the boot0hfs now to see if I can get my Windows to sleep. EDIT: Lol, failure. Installing the new Chameleon RC5 seems to have locked me out of OSX. Now it freezes (no visible kp) similar to how it used to, except this time it's referring to power management rather than SleepEnabler. Sorry to be such a hassle. It's rather annoying. I may just wipe the dumb thing clean.

So I ran xBench with these results: For my GPU upgrade I was thinking at this card: based on this WIKI HCL 10.7 Seeds LIST list: SAPPHIRE 100315L Radeon HD 6850 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card with Eyefinity If someone have this or something similar please post some results. Yep, I've reworked the script to rename the plists. Will release shortly. I've also added ability to download the bootloader sources and compile on the spot. This will make it easier to stay on top of the updates. Much easier for me, as I don't have to keep the files updated on the server for everyone. I was compiling and uploading the updates when I had a chance, but a lot of users want access to the latest releases as they are available. JuliusWang
Hi dd, guys! Thanks so much for this script. It helped me setup the Lion Raid! Thank you thank you! One problem I am still facing is that, with RAID, there is a KP on IOGraphicsFamily.text (see image). I could have it run without any KP using the Lion ESD boot drive. I am thinking this should be some kext related issue but I have bumping my head into the wall for a bit while now. Could you offer some suggestions? Again, thanks! JuliusWang
I think I just fixed my own graphics issue. The main problem there is that, even though I have DSDT.aml place in the Extra file, it has never been accessed. I need to manually put "/Extra/DSDT.aml" to my com.apple.Boot.plist file located on the RAID hidden boot drive. Using option 7 to edit it. I am happy as a Mac! Thanks again and I would be happy to provide more details on my dual 480 gtx setup + lion!

digital_dreamer
JuliusWang, You're not the first to show the low disk warnings on RAID. KeNgoaiDao also had this issue. When you do a update boot cache or kext install, the log should show the free space of the RAID helper partitions, like the following: Writing changes to RAID:Available space on /Volumes/Boot OSX (disk3s3) before changes: 60.1M (Trash size: .5M) Copying "mach_kernel" from MacRAID to /Volumes/Boot OSX #### Disk3s3: Kernel files on /Volumes/Boot OSX: -rw-r--r--@ 1 root wheel 15M Jul 7 04:19 mach_kernel Copying /Extra directory from RAID disk3s3 to RAID disk3s3 Available space on /Volumes/Boot OSX (disk2s3) before changes: 60.1M (Trash size: .5M) Copying "mach_kernel" from MacRAID to /Volumes/Boot OSX #### Disk2s3: Kernel files on /Volumes/Boot OSX: -rw-r--r--@ 1 root wheel 15M Jul 7 04:19 mach_kernel I put in bold the important info. Check how much space you have on your helper partitions. If low, view them and remove any Themes you don't use. I might be inclined to change this portion and have the script just copy the theme that is in use. And, each time someone changes the theme, it will replace the existing one. That way, only one theme is in /Extra, saving disk space. Themes are currently at 30MB in size. Let us know the status of that disk space, okay? MAJ P.S. The RAID helper partitions appear to be in proportion to total disk size. So, the smaller the drive, the smaller your helper partitions.

digital_dreamer
lemarqq, I can't see any reason why an install wouldn't work for any OS X version. I would think that just using the GraphicsEnabler=Yes as the bootloader flag in the boot plist with the latest RC5 release should work. Do you have a reference GTX 285 with the standard outputs? What video out and monitor are you using? Have you used EFI strings for this? MAJ
