colddiver
Hello all, I just noticed that one of the added benefit of the memory detection in the newer Chameleon RC5 is that you can trim down your smbios by removing most of the SMmem[...] entries. In my case, I had values for SMmemmanufacter, SMmempart, SMmemserial (for all 6 memory banks) and SMmemspeed and SMmemtype setup in my smbios. I removed all these entries and Chameleon now properly detects everything (except SMmemserial values - it shows only zeros). Colddiver

colddiver
Everything works great apart from I regularly (but not always), get a CMOS reset on restart (i'm using openhaltrestart), and I've noticed the machine seems to wake itself from sleep, when left for a while. neither of these occur under SL, anybody got any ideas? This is under Lion? If so, make sure you upgrade to the latest version. You may also want to try the AppleRTC.kext that DD provided in his earlier post. student_al
Thanks Again DD for the wonderful script! I had to wrap my head around a lot! I love how well this script works! After farting around with the tonymacx86 Chimera package to get it to install to the MBR on these drives, I forgot that I could use pacifist and just extract out the boot files! Yay - And you made it cleaner than ever to install with your script! - It feels truly Vanilla! The only problem, is I am not able to get my install to reboot. **Fixed**I am thinking this is a DSDT problem. Everything works - sleep, graphics, etc... I was wondering if I have a pre-edited DSDT.aml file if I could just write over the scripted DSDT. Thanks again for writing an awesome script... ****Edit*** Everything is working! :-) There doesn't seem to be any reboot issue once I installed all software updates and did one forced shut down and booted back in! -al

Narayana
Hello- It has been some time since I have attempted a reinstall and would like to say I am a huge fan of the Boot Disk method. It has greatly simplified things. I did run into an issue where the EFI string for my GT260 did not work properly. Reverting back to the EFI string I used earlier (attached later), everything worked beautifully. Thanks so much, MAJ. EFI_string.txt I am currently running BIOS revision F14P on my GA-EX58-UD4P in 10.6.7. I am having some issues with restart and sleep. With no overclocking, the machine will not restart properly. My monitor powers off and the computer continues to whir along. Sleep is a bit finicky. Scheduled Sleep doesn't work (ie in energy saver pref pane), though I can't remember that it ever has. Sometimes, the machine will restart when brought back from sleep, other times it will work just fine, and other times the mouse won't work (connected via USB hub). In the past, I have found that some BIOS versions work better than others in regards to sleep. Do any other users of Snow Leopard have the same issues as above? Is there a preferred BIOS release that works better than the current beta? I was previously running F14B, which worked for me at one point, but had similar issues in the current install. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! EFI_string.txt

EFI_string.txt The attached EFI string is the one that works? I've been looking it over and am unable to see the difference. I blame my eyes and age. The only difference I see is the "rom-revision" string, but don't believe that has any bearing on functionality. When you create or import a EFI string with my script, the script's Install.log will create print the plist of this EFI string. I'd be tempted to see if you may see the difference between the two from the Install.log. I am currently running BIOS revision F14P on my GA-EX58-UD4P in 10.6.7. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Lack of scheduled sleep or idle sleep is a common problem. There are some free scripts mentioned on this forum that try to take the place of this OS feature. Are you using a SleepEnabler.kext? Each time you have a BIOS update, you should get rid of the current DSDT file, reboot, then let the script create a new one. That way you have a proper DSDT file that reflects the current hardware and BIOS version. Not doing this may create issues. Hey all. I'm having a major issue. Windows04
Allright, just for pointing out: I just installed Mac OS X Lion Developer Preview 4 using the script's boot disk feature and it worked flawlessly... Except, there's one more thing... The kernel didn't get copied to the boot disk, so you need to mount the Developer Preview 4, enable finder to see invisible files (using secrets or terminal) and copy the kernel manually to the root of the boot disk. Except for that, everything worked! And for users using the ga-ex58-ud5 motherboard with alc889a audio, if you use the files from tmongkol's thread (here), you can get 5.1 surround sound . Thanks again to DD and Tmongkol for a quick and easy installation of a BETA release of mac os x, truly, the hackintosh community has come a long way to make something like this so simple (well, at least for my setup ). Oh, and also after using it for a little while, it really feels like Lion is ready for its summer release, this preview is of golden master quality, or at least release candidate . When you say it doesn't boot, are you getting into the bootloader? No bootloader screen? Yes, we need to install the bootloader: With your boot disk as target drive, if you go to menu option #2 for Install Bootloader, does the script show the bootloader as installed? Even if it does, select the Chameleon 2.0 RC5 and install anyway. EFI partition install? While installing bootloader, you'll need to click "n" (for No) on the next option where it says, "Some bootloader support files already exist in YOUR_BOOT_DRIVE. Preserve this /Extra directory and its contents, instead of removing them and copying new ones from script's /Plists folder?" so that the script will replace the boot plist with the new drive UUID. (If you are using a different system partition or have erased the original partition, the partition with the system files has a new UUID. The UUID inside the old boot plist is likely pointing to the old, non-existent partition, so let the script replace and update the boot plist here.) You will have to run the Kext installer, DSDT patcher, etc. after this, as you will be populating the /Extra folder from scratch. Get bootloader screen, but no boot progress? Post your boot picture. Allright, just for pointing out: I just installed Mac OS X Lion Developer Preview 4 using the script's boot disk feature and it worked flawlessly... Except, there's one more thing... Ah, so DP4 has the same missing kernel issue as DP3. The kernel is no longer located in the BaseSystem.dmg, so needs to be copied from root after it does the restore. My script will simply check if the kernel is present and, if not, copy it from root. Easy to get around, just like you did. tonelab77
When you say it doesn't boot, are you getting into the bootloader? Bootloader...yes. But it returns a 'can't find mach kernel' error. When running the script, I am getting this message in the kext installer: "Waiting on OS to start updating boot cache on RAID helper partition..." That's where it gets stuck. I have a strong feeling this is the reason for my troubles. EDIT: I ran the dsdt patcher in a separate script window while "Waiting on OS to start updating boot cache on RAID helper partition..." was displayed on the original window, and...BAM! It completed. But now, it loads the bootloader and the only option is the original (cloned) drive, no matter which of the 2 SSDs I choose to load from. I'm about to shoot someone. Really though...very frustrating. I know I'm close... Please advise me. Thanks again MAJ! We're talking about Snow, right? The "Waiting for OS.." message should time out after about 15 seconds, and the script should continue its duties. This little delay is to make sure the OS doesn't decide to jump in and update the caches on the helper partitions while the script is copying files. Major chaos can happen here. So, now, the boot drive doesn't appear in the bootloader selection screen? I have a hunch about what may be happening. On a RAID install, some OS files are installed on the helper partitions (generally named "BOOT OSX". These include the kernel, boot cache and boot plist. These files are crucial to booting the RAID and are also used by the bootloader to detect a bootable partition. These files don't get copied over on a restore. This explains why the RAID doesn't show up. It' also explains why the "Waiting for OS..." message is on for so long - the OS never updates the caches, because they are non-existent. P.S. I did some tests and the time out portion wasn't working correctly. I have it fixed now. But, that doesn't fix your issue. RAID helper partitions should look like the following: We need to force the OS to populate the helper partition(s). I've never found a reliable way to do this. Hit and miss. You need to be booted on a system that has the RAID volumes connected, so that the OS (Snow Leo) can see them and work with them. Is that possible for you? After doing that, try deleting the system boot cache at: RAID_VOLUME/System/Library/Caches/com.apple.kext.caches/Startup/Extensions.mkext Then, force the OS to build the caches in Terminal (if it doesn't happen automatically after the delete): touch "RAID_VOLUME/System/Library/Extensions" Hopefully, the OS files will get installed. You can use the script to view those partitions. All this is what the OS Installer does when installing on AppleRAID setup. best of wishes, MAJ

digital_dreamer
tonelab77, Just to be clear: Chameleon doesn't need any of those files in the RAID helper partitions, except for the kernel, boot file and the Extra directory. The rest of those files are just for booting from a Apple Mac, actually. The script should copy the kernel over for each helper partition. Which script version are you using? Are you using a /Extra or EFI setup? When you run the bootloader install routine, does it actually install to both helper partitions? Can you see that two drives are being worked on, one at a time? When you had the script stalling, the /Extra directory and kernel were likely not getting copied over. But, I can't see why the bootloader doesn't show it. Do you have the boot0hfs install option disabled in preferences? This option will actually prevent the partition from being set 'active.' Not what we want. If anybody is interested in the procedure, I can post it. The v6.0b installer will work with DP4, with the exception of copying over the kernel. This will have to be done manually. However, the version I'm working on works fine. If you can wait a few days, I will release it soon. I'm currently trying to get it to create boot a DVD/ISO from the Lion installer. A lot of it is experimental. Plan to have it work with the DPX versions, for now. I'll put in a mod to work with the upcoming golden candidate release of Lion that comes off the App Store sometime later. As far as RAID, yes, v6.0 will install Lion on RAID. I just did last night. However, the Chameleon bootloader doesn't recognize the drives properly and you're not able to boot from it. I've filed a bug report on this elsewhere: "Installed on a RAID setup (striped) Lion DP4. It appears all is there as far as system files and bootloader support is concerned. However, Chameleon doesn't read the RAID correctly at the screen selection. My RAID is called "MacRAID" and the helper partitions are the default names, "Boot OS X". But, the Chameleon (r1002) screen shows "MacRAID 1" and MacRAID 2" instead. Of course, the boot process is very, very short and nothing gets loaded." This applies to both the /Extra and EFI installs. Doesn't sound like a difficult fix. Accessing Lion RAID info is slightly different from Snow. kind regards, MAJ
everdone
I made a boot USB using version 5.54 of DD's installer with DF4 (no raid attempted) using the same kexts and DSDT that were working with DF2 (upgraded to DF3), except I used RC2 r832 instead of the scripts 'standard' Lion bootloaded. Installed to a clean HD with no problem. Finished the script from SL after the initial install of DF4. At first boot into Lion DF4 all kexts loaded as if using -f flag. Once in Lion, ran the script again to update kests and create bootcache. On the next boot display behaved as expected using the -v flag.
