ArkaPro
OK I have managed to install 10.5.8 using the old DD script! on this hardware: looks great only the mobo I'm using is: GA-X58A-UD5 and Palit Nvidia 9800GT 1GB graphics card. It appears that the GA-X58A-UD5 mobo has a different sound card... thus its not working: The diffrence: GA-X58-UD5 Has a Realtek ALC889A codec GA-X58A-UD5 Has a Realtek ALC889 codec So sound is NOT working! does any1 have a GA-X58A-UD5 board in this thread with working sound? or where and how can I get it to work? ArkaPro
Use Mac OS X 10.6.3 with Legacy HDA in /extra and sound will work Thanks for repling - I have 10.5.8 running but having trouble to instal the Palit 9800GT 1GB card. so I might as well give a 2nd try to 10.6.3 ( i have a 10.6.2 10.6.3 retail images). tring to install with the boot CD I created on the 10.5.2 Kalyway temp install on the other Hdd the instructions of this script are a bit tricky for me (the 10.5.8 script was simpler.. to me) so which one of the Legacy HDA were u talking about - in what folder in the repository? thanks!! ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Update: I have managed to install 10.6.3! - using Boot CD - 10.6.2 Retail DVD - 10.6.3 CMB udate toggled spotlight off used the script for: installetion of kexts updadeting boot caches I chose SUPER COMBO for both KEXT AND CACHES - (Don't know what is the difrrence between normal COMBO and SUPER COMBO) All looks to be working great accept 3 things! 1. When Pressing ENTER from the Chameleon RC4 Boot-loader on the NEW 10.6.3 HDD. I get a lot of lines running until OSX loads up. WHY? 2. Palit Nvidia 9800GT 1GB is NOT working: even though I saw In 10.6.3 HCL table that it should work out of the box when GraphicsEnabler set to "Yes" - Why? what should I do? am I not setting the "GraphicsEnabler set to "Yes" right? 3. Sound not working because I have GA-X58(A)-UD5 - so it has ALC889 (NOT ALC889A) Like you guys have. So "Rankrotten" suggested me to install the LegacyHDA.Kext from Kexts_10.6/_audio/_repository/EVGA_X58_ALC889. still not working... Im not sure I installed it right (I just copied it to the "_audio" folder in Kexts_10.6 and ran the script...? But whats really bugging me is why the Palit card is not working?! But whats really bugging me is why the Palit card is not working?! 1 Your booting in verbose I believe, edit your boot.plist and take out the -v from the kernel flags or remove both for that matter if you'd like to run in 64 bit. 2 If the GraphicsEnabler isn't working you may try adding an efi string by adding a device property to your boot.plist. My card is supported out of the box, but my specific manufacturer board isn't supported by GraphicsEnabler, I had to add a string. 3 Not sure whats not wanting to play nice with this one, check that the output device in the sound preferences is selected. I know certain installs select the none default audio output. (I had to do this for my install so just a thought) If you have to reinstall Snow Leopard again, DD has suggested a different way to build the bootcache the first boot which involves booting in single user mode and the building the cache and restarting, instead of having to boot and disable spotlight. I think a normal Combo Update is sufficient, as DD said in the guide, all the standard choices are bolded and are usually safe to pick.
Rankrotten
ArkaPro, here is my zipped /extra folder which has an edited DSDT and the correct version of LegacyHDA for the X58A-UD5 board. Sleep, Power Management, Speedstepping and Audio all work correctly running 10.6.3 http://www.megaupload.com/?d=59NKY6VG Modify the AppleHDA in S/L/E using aschar1's instructions http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...6771&st=618 then it is safe to apply the Mac Pro Audio 1.1 update which will pop up in software updater. Note that my processor is an i7 930 so refer to d00d's thread, post 1 section 5 for the i7 920 speedstepping code http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=196771 Everything you need to get your board working correctly is listed on Page 1 of d00d's thread. kd5ftn
Okay, I'm trying this install with the same motherboard, and an EVGA GTX 260 896MB graphics card When I tried the preboot CD, as soon the SL Install GUI was to come up, my display turned off. So, this time I installed Kalyway on one drive, and used it to put SL on another and followed through the script, using the PC-EFI bootloader. However, at this point I can't seem to make the system boot into SL, it will only boot to Leopard/Kalyway. I've changed the Startup Disk in Leopard to no avail. Can anybofy tell me, what's the difference/what's best, between letting the bootloader inject the gfx strings with graphicsenabler=y and making my own gfx string aquamac style? Cheers Jon Both options work equally well. GraphicsEnabler is nice since you don't have to select the string (DD's script already has the GTX285 string you just need to select it to add it to your plist no need to make the string ala aquamacs guide). My card didn't work with GraphicEnabler, EVGA GTX 285, so I had to add the string. (When the system booted the screen went black and showed no signal). Everything is up and running great and I haven't had any graphics issues after adding the string.

Fitted the card (Zotac GTX 285) (and new PSU today), the Asere bootloader injection works OOB so I won't do a gfx string for now. Open CL demo app gives me 3x the frame rate of my old 9600GT, and Call of duty 4 at 1080p is awesome! Cheers Jon

It depends on your setup (it would help if you put details in your sig). If you are using things like sleep enablers you'll need to upgrade them. download this thread and search it for details. cheers Jon

I don't seem to ever remember there being a GA-EX58A-UD5. http://www.gigabyte.us/Products/Motherboar...366#Intel%20X58 Be careful with the GA-X58A-UD5 as I believe Gigabyte quietly updated that board to revision 2 which is substantially different then the revision 1 that a lot of people have been able to use. Kakewalk, for example, worked with the rev 1 but is having problems with the rev 2 version.

I have kakewalk prepared in a thumdrive. And people install it using GA-X58A-UD7, later they install some kexts to have sleep and audio working. It's all, no? If you had SleepEnabler in /Extra, then you have to try universal or specific 10.6.3 ! I don't use sleepenabler anymore ! I use a DSDT patch from here: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...771&hl=DSDT Try this one, works great for me ! http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...st&id=65245 For your video card look at this topic reply: #136 http://netkas.org/?p=382#comments "I have a ATI 4870. pcace
Hey, im Using Macosx 10.6.2 on my hackintosh. I Installed it via the script in post 1. My system has: the UD5 with i7 920, 3GB Ram, and a GTX 260 896mb (nVidia). so now here are my questions: 1. What do i have to do to update to 10.6.3? 2. I have to boot the system in 32bit mode. When booting the system in 64bit, i get a black screen instead of the Loginwindow! Why? and what can i do there? The biggest Problem is, that i can not use sleep mode. When i boot in 32 bit mode, the System does not wake up! So this is my configuration: (attachments) Has anyone an idea? PS.: Maybe someone has an dsdt.aml for me with the same configuration? PPS.: Does anyone know a good tutorial for me how to create and compile the dsdt.aml file? Thanks, pcace

If you want to update to 10.6.3 then you need to find the compatible sleep enabler for it. I will suggest you go for minimal kexts setup by using a patched DSDT. This method supports 100% native power mangement and sleep without third party kexts. I have a guide that uses such a DSDT. If you want to patch your own, you can head over to d00d's tutorial on how to. 2. You are getting a black screen in 64 bit mode because you are using a kext that is 32 bit compatible, I done see any graphics kext in your screen shot. Some modded bootloaders like AsereBLN auto inject graphics strings, you can either update your bootLoader or create efi strings for your GPU. That being said, 10.6.3 is obsolete, 10.6.4 is out now and works falwlessly with my guide, give it shot and let me know. For those using my setup, enjoy a flawless upgrade to 10.6.

worthingtoni
CruiSAr, I've been using your DSDT for a while and it's working pretty much flawless for me. I have a couple of questions though, and sorry if you've already answered them earlier. What's the main differences between your DSDT for i7 920 and d00d's? I figure one of them is the orange icon fix. What part in your DSDT refers to this fix? And since d00d's not using this in his DSDT, instead using orange icon kext, what's the advantage and disadvantage by fixing it in the DSDT? Is speed stepping functioning for you? If I start in 32-bit mode and run MSR Tools it tells me speed stepping is off. Maybe I've missed something here? Thanks for your hard work! Cheers, Jon EDIT: Updating to 10.6.4, through Software update, worked like a charm for me as well.

I don't see the reason for not including it if I can get rid of the kext as it is third party. The less kexts, the more maclike the machine, at least that is my interpretation. I don't use JMicron so turned it off in bios and deleted support for it in DSDT as well. Added ESB2 AHCI section to DSDT to get rid of orange Icons if the kext was not present. If you use DSDTSE you can compare my dsdt and d00d's side by side and then u can see the changes. I have never used speed step as according to d00d and others certain fixes and hacks must be applied to the macPro 4.1 plist file. I intend to stay as Vanilla as possible so i havent looked into the issue. I hope the info is helpful. Charles
