One thing I've come to notice from using CruiSAr's FakeSMC method is that the computer emits this really annoying high frequency hissing noise. It only does it on certain uses, but an easy way to reproduce it is to flip through album covers in iTune's coverflow mode. You'll get a hissing tick for every album flip.

Maybe it's tied to the BIOS version (I updated from F5 to F12 at the same time as upgrading from Leo to SL), but I haven't found a way to disable the speedstep option that's usually the culprit. Anyone come across this?

Sorry no hissing noise here....Speed step is disabled by default, if you want to enable it read here on how to. I am gaming in windows at the moment so I cant really help you on the hissing noise issue, I will check once I am in Snow.

I think it is your particular gfx card.

Hey after updating to 10.6.3 sometimes my fans stay on after shutdown. I remember this happened in Leopard and I fixed it but don't remember how. I am using the regular DD method. Any suggestions?

I think it is your particular gfx card.

Could be, but we have the exact same card, I'm assuming you don't have this issue?

On DD's original 10.5 topic, this issue was discussed, and the solution was turning off CPU Enhanced Halt (C1E):

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...t&p=1058848

Which does do the trick... in 10.5. I've just connected my old 10.5.6 HD and turning C1E on, the problem is there, turning it off, the problem goes away. However, loading 10.6.3 with C1E on/off doesn't make a difference.

I can't see why the problem only manifests itself on SL for me.

Keep in mind that I'm not entirely sure if you'd be able to hear the noise if you have a stock GPU cooler, noisy fans, etc. It's fairly high frequency so it should pierce through any low freq fan noise but I'm not sure, I've built a very silent hackintosh.

Well I dont have that noise and I use a pretty silent cooler myself, I even opened the system whiles everything was running and didnt hear a thing.....never had that issue even in Leopard...I suggest trying another CPU.

I was wondering did anyone ever get software raid to work and if so how did you do it? I currently am using DD script and would like ti continue using it for a fresh install on 2 SSD's. I know DD awhile posted to another topic if anyone had it working, but didn't see no reply to his question.

Thanks

I have bene running software raid for a long time now, google aquamac raid guide or visit his form and search under snow Leopard. If you need extra help, I will chip in.

Please Feel free to stop me if I'm heading the wrong direction, but I'm experiencing the Black Screen HDMI/HDCP 10.6.3 problem with an XFX 9800 GT (512MB) Card. Shouldn't that be a "supported GPU?" I understand that this card is essentially the same hardware as an 8800 GT, so maybe that's the problem, but I'm still not quite grasping why I'm having this issue on what looks to me like it should be a supported card. Anyway, please don't take this as argumentative. Just trying to learn. Thanks!

Replay:

I did not say that all Nvidia 9xxx graphics cards work. So far, the only boards that I tested that do work are in the 9xxx family. Google for the supported GPU's from Apple and that should tell you what works.

Cards on the 7xxx and 8xxx range appear to have been dropped.

Guys, please stop pming me asking me to email you my extra folder. How will you learn if you want things served to you on a silver platter. Even if I do send you my extra folder and your system works like you want it to, what will happen the next time an update is released and it messes up your install, will you ask for another extra folder? This is why we provide guides, you try them and learn in the process.

I have no problem in sending my extra folder, I might even end up attaching it for download but it wont help you, when you hit a wall, you will come back asking questions, questions you could have answered yourself by learning. I am not attacking anyone, I am just saying instead of asking silly questions like have you tried this, have you applied this update, will this work? etc, Why dont you just try it?

It either works or it doesnt and you learn through the process. IMHO it is just childish. Get a spare HD and use that for emergency situations or just for learning and remember to backup yout stuff, time machine is not part of OS X for decoration purposes.

Peace out

Very good answer. I second that. :)

It is still not easy to do a hackintosh but it's better to do it by reading a good doc and having the good files than to a all the stuff plug'n pray :-)

The main problem is: there is a lack of informations and files. I'm missing a very good file repository for example.

I can personally attest to CruiSAr's statement. I have used DD's script and then CruiSAr's guide to get me system up and running (see sig) reading is the key there are a lot of sites dedicated to many different setups. Through the process of trial and error I've learned so much about how the system works.

DD's script has many if not all the kexts many systems should need, and google searches for others can fill in the blank spots.

I now have a dedicated folder for all the Hacintosh apps and files that I play with.

Learn the process behind the setup and you'll save yourself from so many headaches when you mess {censored} up, cause you will and knowing what effects what helps debug your system.

epitaphic -

I have this exact problem using the same motherboard and video card. The noise is definitely coming from the video card, goes away when the display it put to sleep. I've found that using the Kakewalk method can get the noise to be a little quieter (probably imagining it being quieter) but I haven't found anything to get the noise to go away. Really annoying sound.

The next script release will have full Apple RAID support. In fact, that portion is done. Lots of fixes are included.

I have not added the boot-uuid kernel flags that's in the RAID tutorial, as it doesn't appear needed (for me, anyway).

I'm just now working on fixing up the boot disk portion (adding EFI string support). Hope to release it in a few days.

best of wishes,

Excellent news, will Asere boot loader also be an option.

Yes, it will.

Plus, you will be able to easily add any bootloader of choice to the script's bootloader directory and have it selectable within the script, provided it has the minimum boot files required (boot, boot0, and boot1h files in a /i386 directory).

best of wishes,

Hi DD

I am in the process of doing a raid install right now. I have got it to work with the raid tutorial but had to wipe my raid only to do it again and am having no luck the second time around, I can't see anything that I am doing wrong.

I would love to beta test your script right now if you would like and give you feedback on how it goes?

Thanks

rx7boy

PS. I have been using your script for awhile and has worked wonders on so many machines.

I'll release a beta this weekend. How about that?

Got some cleaning up to do in the meantime.

EDIT: I just sent a PM

Will still release a version for the weekend.

That sounds great! I will wait to try it out as soon as you release it. Just so frustrated why I could get to work the first time but not the second or third using raid tutorial by aquamac. I appreciate all your hard work.

Ok,i tried the DSDt again just to make sure its working as it should before i do a clean install and the system hangs if i restart (first time i tried i had this issue but it went away after running kext utility a few times) but that does not seem to do the trick any longer, but it shuts down ok.Also the internet takes around 45 seconds to kick in from boot.Concerning the restart issue any suggestions,on what may cause this and where should i look?Is this happening due to my GPU?

Hi Digital_Dreamer, If you need some more "beta" testers, I always have some spare time to install a RAID using your script. I know have it installed manually (and partially with your script) so I know what to do :(. So if you want, you can always send a pm :).

Hey DD pulling my hair out and it's Gray LOL i really love your scripts i'm a noob so in a nutshell this is what i have

working with a BadAxe2 board with Quadcore Q6700 I know your script is for i7 and gigabyte and i'm trying to get SnowLeopard going ..plz note I have total rock solid Leopard everything working but i want the 64 bit snow leopard other BadAxe2 users have got working...is it the kext files I need to change ? also i have 2600xt ATI i noted you made special attention about this card ...here is what i have

BadAxe2 Intel board aka "D975XBX2"

QUADCORE Q6700 2.6

GSKILL DUAL CHANNEL RAM 4 GIG 667 DDR2

ATI 2600XT DDR3512 MB(SAPPHIRE)

600WATT PSU

KOOLANCE H2O KOOLER

I hope this is enough info for you ...

I don't know how well DD's script will work on your board, but if you want to try it you have to use 64 bit kexts. If you are using the ATY kext for your graphics card you are going to have trouble as that is 32 bit only. Also you need to go to your boot plist in your extra folder or modify plist in the script and remove the -v and arch=i386 entries. Follow DD's guide for your graphics card specifically as I do not have experience working with that card. Although if I were you I would try to purchase a new card that is more supported by Apple/Hackintosh. One other thing you could try as well if you want to search through the Hackintosh community, you may find others that are using your motherboard specifically as well. Hope this helps.
