bbchucks
can anyone PM me the ATI4800Controller.kext from 10.6.2 ? i upgraded to 10.6.3 and now i can only VNC into my box...mac software info shows the video card but can't pickup any display connectors. i am just using graphicsenabler=yes, no evo or aty kext files. i tried the dvi2vga but that didn't do the trick either. Jon G
Hi all, First let me say thanks for all the hard work I followed many of the posts here and had a successful 10.6.2 installation. My 10.6.2 system was stable for months until a recent problem: Boot loader wont load - no boot loader seems to work. One day my 10.6.2 system stopped working. When it boots I get this: boot0: GPT boot0: testing boot0: testing boot0: done boot1: /boot then the screen clears I get a "spinning" cursor at the upper left of the screen that then stops.... and that's it. I have the same symptoms when I try to use any other method to boot - like the preboot disk (which previously worked fine). I've got a 10.5.7 system running fine from another HD, just can't get anything else working. Any help would be greatly appreciated. My config is basically what DD has but my graphics card is a ATI Radeon HD 2600. Thanks. JonG Figured it out.... sort of. I post this just in case someone else runs into this problem. Issue was: No bootloaders would work. Not my 10.6.2 Chameleon 3 installation, not the DD preboot CD, not any other bootloader out there. However I could boot the older 10.5.7 installation I had on another drive made with DD's original script. Problem: Turns out it is some sort of a Hard Drive Issue. In 10.5.7 I can see all my HD's just fine. When booting the newer 10.6.2 installation or any of the preboot CD's the process stops prior to the bootloader graphics and the HD light stays on. I moved some drives around and it seems like it could be a combination of using the white SATA ports as well as 1 specific drive that now has some odd issue - but only in the new bootloader. I've got 3 Samsung 1TB drives for storage, and the drive with the issue is one of these. If I place it on a white SATA connector it is not recognized during post. On a blue connector it is recognized on post and will show up in my 10.5.7 install. However, on the blue connector it will prevent the 10.6.2 bootloader from loading. Both SATA chips are active and ACHI is on for both. I don't know what the specific issue with the drive is - it primarily held my Time Machine backups - and I do get an error in 10.5.7 when I try to copy those to a new drive. It was previously working fine in 10.6.2 - no idea why it's got this minor glitch. Anyway, as long as I don't attach that drive I can boot into 10.6.2 or use any of the preboot CDs. FYI - I have other drives attached to the white SATA connectors and they are fine. maybe this will help someone out there who runs into a similar problem. - Jon

arez08
I've found a sleepenabler.kext that works on every version of snow leopard (10.6.3 INCLUDED). This sleepenabler.kext is made by several people through a google code project, so ALL credit goes to them , I'm only here to bring you the good news xD. I have a Ga-EX58-UD5 motherboard and have already tested this sleepenabler myself and it works! Don't forget to turn on the option "Start up automatically after a power failure" in the Energy Saver preference pane! Link: http://code.google.com/p/xnu-sleep-enabler/ On the right side you will see a sleepenabler for every version of snow leopard or a "universal" sleepenabler that works on any version. I have already tried the universal sleepenabler. Enjoy sleep and enjoy 10.6.3! Worked for me! thx
student_al
Hey All, I need some quick advice before installing the 10.6.3 update. My configuration is like this: Snowleopard 10.6.2 Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5 Processor: Intel Core i7-920 2.66 GHz Video Card: Sapphire RADEON HD4870 1 GB I was curious if I could install the 10.6.3 kexts for the video support with the HD4870 right before I installed the 10.6.3 update. Would this work, and if so, which kexts will I need? And do I need a new sleep enabler kext? Thanks in advance! -allan

luh3417
I took a lot at the log file you sent and it doesn't really give me any clues to why your DVD drive is acting the way it is. No program seems to be accessing it. Did you try updating the firmware? Will try firmware update. Thanks for looking at my log! 10.6.3 update straight from Software Update, on CruiSAr setup. Nearly 900MB download with iTunes. System running smoothly except, does not properly detect my 1920x1200 display. Seems to think its a TV and offer 1920x1080 at best. Now (maybe this is 10.6.3) moved an "Overscan" check box under the Display tab of Monitors rather than under Options tab. Using nVidia 9600GT. Here is new boot log http://rapidshare.com/files/370577460/10.6.3.boot.log.html OK I attached it also. System Profiler says this now if anyone has any ideas. Actually it said that before (except the 1920x1080 part, it should offer 1920x1200). seanmcgpa
Updated without problems. A big difference in xbench open gl. Went from 273 to 297 globally and open gl jumped almost a 100 points. I, too, am seeing some big improvements in OpenGL - specifically in World of Warcraft. Running around Dalaran at 2560x1600x32 with 4x AA and all graphics settings at "Ultra" I am getting at least 10-15 higher FPS than I was in 10.6.2. *Really* noticeable improvement. mpoidvin
Just wanted to add something in regards to sleep. Mine works perfectly, except if it sleeps for an extended period of time or is using a usb webcam and i force sleep. KP right away upon wake. So in reading around I find that a real Mac sleeps in a state that would more closely resemble s1 in the bios and not s3. So I changed it about a week ago, and even with the sapphire hd4870, not a single problem. I was wondering if I am the only one who got KP's after a long sleep or a forced sleep while the usb webcam is actually recording. Now I can honestly say that my rig is completly mac. Dual monitors, win7 64 bit in vmfusion. No matter how I try I can no longer even force a KP. Of course none of this would be possible without DD's guide, and again a big thank you. I am reposting this because 10.6.3 came out a few hours later, and attention was elsewhere. Still wondering if anyone had the same problems with long sleep, more than an hour. Input would be appreciated.

MikeBuzzsaw
This is a newb question, but since my computer refuses to completely shutdown, where can I get a log of the error or figure out what is causing it. I haven't changed any of the kexts and it use to be able to sleep and shut down just fine. Maybe one of my USB connected devices is causing this? Whenever I shut downdown, the computer shuts down but the blue light stays on and the computer fans is still running. The monitors don't work. luh3417
CruiSAr method, updated to 10.6.3 using Apple's Software Update. http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...97&st=2080# Note his instruction to go to Energy Saver and check Startup automatically after power failure. Noticed that the Ethernet was running slow. Went to System Preferences... Network... Ethernet... Advanced... Ethernet... Configure MANUALLY and forced it to 1000bt and Full Duplex, its about 5x faster now, proper gigabit speeds approaching 80 megabytes/sec. Not sure if this was the case in 10.6.0 and 10.6.2 or happened after the 10.6.3 update, CruiSAr users check your gigabit and report back. One thing that worked in 10.6.0 and after 10.6.2 updates but went south after 10.6.3 was my 9600GT. Can't really understand why, this is such a simple install technique. FakeSMC is still in /Extra and Realtek is still in S/L/E and the dsdt is still in place, so how did 10.6.3 mix me and how to get the proper monitor resolution back. I hit space during bootup and entered -s to boot into single user mode, then typed buildcache. This got me 1920x1200 back. But onevery strange problem remains: all the fonts look strangely pixellated, like they're the wrong resolution, or they're not anti-aliased. Click on the following picture. Some of the letters are too thin, some are too fat. The finder uses Lucida Grande. Its acting like the mac is faking this font. No console messages about Lucida. Actually all fonts in all apps are acting this way, so must be related to graphics not fonts. Font Book thinks all my fonts are fine. Sorry to take this thread out into the weeds, its just strange that 10.6.3 did this to me. Trying http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=87105 and http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=111606. CruiSAr says "The guide also uses automatic Efi string injection meaning you wont need to generate efi strings for your GPU." So when does the injection occur? After the initial install, can I change graphics cards repeatedly, hoping to find one that fixes the font problem, and it adapts and re-injects, or do I need to re-install or re-inject somehow?
