While getting tired of not being able to get 10.6.2 to work I decided to fresh install 10.6.0 again and update to only 10.6.1. Doing so I was able to boot just fine and everything still works.

My mind is boggled beyond belief.. I have no idea why 10.6.2 will not work.

your post contains little useful info

It working depends on whether you are are running native or using 3rd party kexts

try search or google

Try using RC4 with AsereBLN v1.9 bootloader. I havent tried PC_EFI on a raid before . I am using RC3 in my raid setup

I tried using AsereBLN bootloader but i have the same situation. RC3 gave me a kernel panic upon boot. Very strange situation... chameleon recognizes the drive but doesn't show it in the menu :s... It's not such a big problem (I can still boot) but when you accidentally press the keyboard during the countdown, i can restart my whole system just because I can't choose the mac drive :s...

I am sorry to hear that, probably you did something wrong or missed a step somewhere. What you can try to do is install on an extra drive you have (not raid) and make sure everything is working the way you want, then you can clone the drive onto your RAID setup.

I wish I could do more to help

Well, the strange thing is that everything is working perfectly (graphics, sound...) and i'm feeling a great improvement with this raid setup. It's just that one stupid, little problem...

Alright so in hopes that someone can help me figure out what is going on with my machine, I updated to 10.6.2 and then booted into single user mode.

The following comes up, and then it asks me to type exit to continue booting.

photo.jpg

Once I type exit, the next part loads as you see in the screen, and as soon as "DSMOS arrives" appears, the screen turns black as if it is about to load OSX but then it says that there is no video signal and the screen just stays black.

Thanks!

What graphics card are you using? If u you are saying your screen just stays black then it is due to unsupported GPU. How did you setup your graphics in 10.6.0, is it by efi strings or kexts (injectors) in S/L/E?

I'm using a EVGA 9800GTX. I'm not sure what I'm using for it. I used kakewalk to install the OS this time around so I'm not sure how that does the graphics and such but everything worked right after install.

When I installed it using DD's method I installed the efi using his script. The one that uses ATY_init. I followed the procedure on page 1 to the dot so whatever he said to do thats what I did. I wasn't sure if I was supposed to do something else to the graphics card when I got into SL since everything worked and it detected my 9800GTX in the "about this mac."

Why would the graphics card mess up with the install of 10.6.2? And if it is the graphics card what do I do now to fix my install? I have a running SL at 10.6.1 on another hard drive that I'm using so I could work on the other hard drive with the test SL install that is messed up with 10.6.2

Thanks again.

You can tell by checking it in system profiler. Click on the graphics card and the information will be displayed. If it says the rom is internal then efi string is being used other wise a kext is being used.

I am not sure which solution you are using but most graphics kexts are only 32 bit and will not load in 64 bit so check which kernel mode you are booting in. This information is also available in system profiler, click on software and it will tell you if the 64 bit kernel is loaded or not.

From your screen shot, I dont see any KP's

EDIT: Of course you cant boot to your desktop so you cant check the above

You shouldn't have to exit, i would suggest booting with boot132 disc get into SL and re-install a bootloader.

Gigabyte EX58-UD5

NVidia GTX285

Intel core i7 985

WDCaviar Black 1 TB

Have the MacOSX install dmg on my flash drive. It begins the install and I see a lot of code lines flash by. It eventually stops and I think the last line says "go to exit" but I am not sure because it is gone in a flash. Then the screen goes blank and nothing happens. I am a newbie and do not know how to add kexts to my install. i would like very specific instructions for how to add kexts and or scripts in terminal to my installation file.

Very much appreciate any help

Dana

Tried the Insanely Mac bootloader guide for the Gigabyte EX58-UD5 as listed above. I was installing onto a brand new drive with no OS. I simply had not gone through all the steps, with adding the kexts towards the end. When I went through all the steps it installed properly. A little tweaking by my computer whiz kid son and it installed and updated. The video card does not work, though, probably because it is the Windows version of the GTX 285. He is trying to change that out now, to the Mac version. Then I just need to get the computer back from him and check it out.

Hi Dana,

The windows version of the card works well with OSX, I use the zotac GTX 285, works like a charm. I am not sure if the mac version will work on a pc but who knows. With graphics, you can use either efi strings or chameleon to auto inject the string upon loading the OS.

Hi CruiSar, well i tried your installation method with only fakesmc in extra and it works but the only problem is that i get a kernel panic (related to the iCal helper?) when i wake up from sleep :s...

Also I see that you have installed Snow Leopard on 2 RAID drives... how did you configure the boot loaders because I'm trying to get this configuration but i keep having problems with the bootloaders...

Thanks :)

Hi,

I had the exact same ical helper kernel panic on wake form sleep. I fixed it by adding PlatformUUID.kext back into extra and then rebuilding bootcaches.

Thanks

Jon

Hi Jon,

Thanks for the update, its weird but I dont get that panic, actually no KP's at all. Can you maybe post a kernel log so I Can see what causes the problem? I am only using fakeSMC in Extra

Hi Crusar,

I got my computer to boot into 10.6.2 finally and have everything working. The problem is that it says I'm not running 64bit kernel and extensions. Is this something to be concerned about? How do I get it to boot into 64bit?

Also, when I check "about this mac" it says my CPU speed but doesn't say it is an i7 or anything. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

No it is nothing to be concerned about but I prefer to boot in 64 bit as this gives the system more performance. To get it to boot into 64 bit mode, you need to edit the com.apple.boot.plist file located in your extra folder.

Find this line and remove it completely..

<key>Kernel Flags</key>

<string> -v -x arch=i386...</string>

If you used DD's script to install then you can edit the processor info to your liking by using option #10 of the script.

@ windows04 and jhrfc

I dont understand the KP's you guys are getting, I have tried the iCal issue and I dont get a KP when I wake up from sleep or before sleep.

You guys can try and install the modded pcefi 10.6 by prasys. It also works with my setup.

I have just installed using your guide which seems to work very well. Thanks for you effort :(

I noticed a couple of things though, just wanted to see if you have the same on your system (my system is pretty much identical)

I noticed that analogue line out audio comes out of the black minijack instead of the regular default green lineout for these motherboards.

Second thing - if I look at system profiler, specifically Serial-ATA. Mine is listed as 'Intel ESB2 AHCI' instead of Intel ICH10 Ahci...?

If you could compare that would be cool...

thx, jay

Thanks tons man, this thread was my bible for the past 12 hours. Got a system up and running today, a few hiccups with the "AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement", but did a little research, patched a few kexts...and everything is working perfectly now. This was my first Hackintosh and I am sure I would not have been able to do it without the amazing legwork you and others put in.

CPU: Intel i7 920

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5

RAM: 8 Gig Corsair DDR3 1600

CPU Cooler: ZALMAN CNPS9900ALED 120mm

VGA: PNY NVIDIA 9800 GT EE 1024 MB

HDD: 1 TB 7200 RPM Seagate Barracuda

Case: COOLER MASTER Storm Scout

Dublove,

ESB2 AHCI is what Apple uses to recognise the chipset that cotrols the internal Drives on the logic board, PC's do not have this that is why we use IOAHCIBlockStorageInjector.kext so we dont have our drives showing up with orange icons.

Without this fix in DSDT, you will need to have IOAHCIBlockStorageInjector.kext or orangeIconFix.kext installed for the internal drives to show up as normal icons.

My green output port works fine, black doesnt, I dont really use analogue audio so it doesnt bother me at all. most people who use this setup combine it with audio kexts. Check d00d's thread out for more info.

Can someone explain to me what the difference is between Normal/Combo Cache update in the script. I was trying to get some information on it..

Thanks

fatty

Normal Cache builds seperate bootcaches, one with kexts from the extra folder and one with kexts from the system folder and these caches are saved in their respective folders.

Combo cache builds a combined bootcache from /Extra and /System and saves it in the /Extra folder. Read the very first post of this thread for more info.

A big THX to digital dreamer for this great tutorial.

I did exactly what the guide said (default stepts), ending up with a very fast Hackintosh:

- Motherboard: ga-x58a-ud5

- RAM: 6x 2GB DDR3-1600 PC12800 (Corsair)

- Disk: Intel SSD 80GB

- Graphics: Original NVidia GeForce 120 from Apple Sore (need the mini display port)

Additionally I added an EFI-String to enable the GeForce 120 (should be the rebranded GeForce GT 9500).

The system seems to work so far, but I experience random and spontaneous black screens followed by a reboot  .

Nothing found like "kernel panic" in log files...

Thanks for the guides, write-ups, previous knowledge and such.

I got my hackintosh going this evening and things went smooth.

I used Digital_Dreamer's script and CruiSAr's short SL install guide, his sig has it as Guide with only FakeSMC in Extra, to prep Digital_Dreamer's script. I didn't have sound, so used HDAEnabler.kext and LegacyHDA.kext and that fixed it.

I didn't have SleepEnabler installed, I do now after I updated to 10.6.2. I still have to see if sleep and wake work.

So far everything is stable, but I haven't put a load on it yet.

Hardware -

Gigabyte EX58-UD5

6GB of RAM

1TB WD Green drive

EVGA 9800 GTX+ 512MB
