Edit For Dumbness:

I have a question regarding using a time machine back up from my old computer to essentially restore my new one. is this possible or am I just dreaming and must do all the apps and file movements manually?

Edit: (again)

Well i did restore from a time machine backup and it had a kp( as expected) I then reinstalled osx on the same drive and I'm back up and running, the only problem is the hardware from my imac still has stuff listed in the system profiler ie it says i have an airport card and a bluetooth module (neither of which I have) do anyone know how to edit the system hardware list so i can delete the things I dont have? this is completely for cosmetics as they dont seem to have any adverse effects as of yet.

Hmmm I've ran DD's script on my iMac all except the DSDT part as thats gotta be done on the actual system and have still had no luck.

I just tried an OSX install only on the HDD added the efi string to its boot and still no go.

I am having one problem no matter how I set my bios to use a usb keyboard when I boot with the preboot cd you used the keyboard isn't recognized any ideas there?

I can confirm as I had this exact problem with both the preboot cd AND a script-built USB thumb drive. In both cases the machine froze with error code s0 on the MB. I think this was a keyboard initialization error code.

I got around the problem by running the script on my hackintosh laptop against an old laptop drive I had put into a usb enclosure. Once I had snowleopard fully installed I popped the drive from it's enclosure and attached it to the rear SATA cable. Then I simply booted into that drive and reran the scripts against the internal drive.

Success!

Geekbench is showing a score of just under 10,000 so I'm pleased.

Now if I could just get windows to cooperate and dual boot successfully...

Thanks DD for all you've done. I know that script must have taken an awful long time to write. Have a beer on me!

what's your specs?

mine is showing around 8300.

specs:

i7 920

ex58-ud5

6gb 1333Mhz ddr3

1gb 9400GT

on a different note,

Just wondering if there is any benefits of updating the bios on my EX58-UD5.

If so, how would I go about updating it if i have Snow Leopard.

One of the great things about this board is that no operating system is required to update the BIOS. I simply dropped the latest BIOS found in post #1 onto a USB stick and upgraded using Q-BIOS I think. (I'm at work so I'm going on memory here.)

I saw about the same score you did originally, but once I booted into 64bit mode my score jumped.

My system:

GA-EX58-UD5

i7 920

12Gb 1666 memory

GTS 250 with 512M

Everything is stock. No overclocking (yet).

I reckon that would work with a bit of manual manipulation. I installed by hand and this is effectively what I did

but I used a Leopard partition on a hack rather than a MAC, having done that it is even easier to do from a SL

partition.

AFAIK, should just be a case of installing SL, making it bootable then installing the chameleon bootloader then

editing a couple of config files. I've done this several times without issue. I don't think you actually need any

images, you can install directly via the SL DVD (that's what I do). Then you will need to move the drive to a pc

as chameleon isn't recommended for real mac's

why don't you try it, it will only cost you an hour of your time and at worst will be a learning experience

oh, and don't use migration assistant ... :)

Can the script be run but have it pointed to a USB flash stick but have SL install to a hard drive? This would install all the "hack" to the flash drive so the SL install could be booted in both the hackintosh and a real Mac.

DD's script stopped responding (even after rebooting), so I decided to start over. I reformatted the drive and updated my bios to f8. Now when I try to use the boot cd, I can't get past the Apple logo screen. The DVD is not being accessed. I went back to check the BIOS for changes. AHCI is turned on. The only difference I can see is that HPET is enabled and I don't think it was before. Any ideas?

I may be wrong here as I don't use a boot cd, but just a guess

On my machine when I reformat a drive it normally changes the boot-uuid of that drive (ie the one with SL on it)

On my machine I need to put boot-uuid=<uuid of the SL drive> in boot.plist, otherwise I get waiting for root device

hang when booting in verbose (-v) mode or spinning grey screen

Does the uuid of your SL drive match what is in your boot.plist(s)?

Try booting with -v switch

I used empire efi to boot the install dvd. Once installed, the first boot was done using empire efi and then I used the script here to install the kext and bootloader.

Again thanks DD for all your work and everyone else! Followed the 10.5 guide the first time and just got 10.6.2 on my computer with RC3 boot loader.

Everything works great! Except one small problem. Used CruiSAr guide to get to sleep/wake, but on wake I get a black screen in 32 and 64. Followed guide exactly. Graphics card's fans still spinning though. Any ideas?

I have a 9800 GT 1024 and used graphics string to get to work. Removed all the Graphics kexts. Fully functional under all other conditions. Has anyone gotten sleep to work successfully with this card?

Congrats to you too.

I don't understand the first part of your post. I'm just trying to get my machine to read the OSX Install DVD. Chameleon sees it after I wait for the drive to stop spinning and press F5. But then it won't read the DVD...it just stays on the gray apple screen with no turning circle.

I used the Tab key and typed in -v (Enter)

I got a bunch of text and the last item reads:

Not loading kext com.apple.driver.AppleHDAController - not found and kextd not available in early boot.

I'm using the same bootcd that worked before, so the kexts are the same. What is going on?

Also, my machine won't recognize the thumb drive I was using before to transfer files. My iMac and my PC can read it just fine, but not my target machine. My target machine has Windows 7 professional already installed on a separate disk. When I go to Disk Management, I can see the thumb drive, but I am not able to assign a drive letter to it. I just don't understand. Please help.

It's because you wrote

DD's script stopped responding (even after rebooting), so I decided to start over. I reformatted the drive

Before you did this everything worked ? and after it just hangs ?

On my computer when I've done that it changes the boot-uuid and I (and I presume you) need that to be set

correctly in the com.apple.boot.plist you are using to boot with.

Alternatively, if that is not the problem, there is a similar post a couple of months back

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...t&p=1319331

are you booting 32 bit or 64 bit?

But I haven't done an install the way you have done so perhaps I shouldn't advise you further in case I confuse you,

best if someone else answers (it isn't clear to me where these messages about loading kexts, grey screens etc

are coming from if you reformatted your drive and are trying to install from a dvd)

Your thumb drive is probably formatted HFS and GUID or some combination. I've done similar things by accident,

can be quite confusing. Put it in the imac and look at the info in disk doctor

DD, thanks. Your guide rocks:)

a minor issue after finish the install and update os to 10.6.2 - DVD Drive (SATA) is randomly accessed, I'd say every 30 seconds light on and quick scan noise and than off. I'm tried disabling kext's one at a time to see if it's any one in particular that is the culprit but so far no success.

Anyone else seen this?

I got mine installed using DD's script.

Couple things.

1. I cant seem to get the audio to work... I have tried installing kext/installer with the provided kexts. Am I doing something wrong?

2. Also when I go to about this Mac my memory is reporting at 400mhz .. I assume that is wrong. Under "more info" if I go to memory it doesnt have any info about my ram. Is there something I can do to make it recognize my ram in the system info.

3. How do I perform the update the 10.6.2 update without screwing anything up? I am at 10.6

thanks to all

Hello all,

I tested a few things lately and I want to share the results with you. I have been booting in 64-Bit since I moved to Snow Leopard without any issues (everything worked). I have a TASCAM US122 audio interface and there are no 64-Bit drivers for it so it didn't work. I wanted to make it work again so I decided to switch to 32-Bit. Since I did that, sleep stopped working (computer wakes up but monitor and mouse remain dead - this is with the latest SleepEnabler - the one that work on all versions of Snow).

I tried the latest Chameleon and PCEFI with the same results. I also tried the EvOreboot.kext and OpenHaltRestart.kext with both without any luck. I reverted back to 64-Bit for now (PCEFI 10.5, SleepEnabler, EvOreboot.kext). I am not using the audio interface everyday and working sleep is more important for now.

I did not notice any difference in the audio (mine works with a DSDT patch and that ALC998a.kext).

I ran geekbench both in 32 and 64-bit and notice a slight increase of performance in 64-bit (see my signature for latest numbers).

So I tried to install the Voodoohda kext (in system) using kext/installer and after reboot I get a KP. The only way I am able to boot into SL again is if I go into the bios and disable the audio codec and then I can boot into SL and remove the voodoohda. Does anyone have any input on how to get my audio working?

I got the audio working by removing the AppleHDA.kext and then adding the voodooHDA.kext.

The volume output is really low though even at max output level. So I am working on that and trying to figure out if my memory is running at DDR3 like it is supposed too. SL is reporting it as DDR2.

Had the same issue before where output volume was low, I believe I used the one from this post. There was some fix to increase the output level for SL and I believe they rolled that in the latest release

Heyy, the install and everything went great...

When i try to boot into my "snow" i get a lot of scrolling logs and then...

this screen shows up (see attached)

I was hoping someone has run into this problem as well... I thought that I had followed the instructions carefully

I am on a GA-EX58-UD3R system. and I am installing from 10.5.8 on a second hard drive.

Ronsega, Thanks for the info man thats good stuff. Which one exactly on that post did you use / download? Want to make sure I get the right one. Did you put voodooHDA.kext in /system and remove appleHDA.kext. I assume thats how but just to confirm. Thanks man.

Well everything has been up and running good for a few days now, I have noticed that my sleep (even with sleep enabler) doesn't work, not sure why exactly not a big deal as i don't put my comp to sleep, and also that the restart command doesn't work it shuts the comp down to all systems off but the board stays live still and never actually restarts. I have the open halt restart kext installed but still no go has anyone had better luck with any other kext?
