[GUIDE] Scripted Yosemite/Mavericks Install on Gigabyte Mobos

I'm confused (as usual). I found another com.apple.boot.plist, which DD's script hasn't been touching. It's in /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/. When I added my EFI string to that, the graphic card started working.

So can anyone tell me why are there 2 of these files?

What did I do wrong, and what else will it affect?

Had something really weird happen to me. Went to install some update through the updater, and after reboot i couldnt get into Snow Leopard. It would do the apple load screen then I would just get a black screen.

The weird thing is I can't even load my Kalyway anymore either. So it seems that some how this update affected my bootloader?

What's wrong with firewire? it just works, you shouldn't need to do anything to it other than make sure that any

application that uses it is SL compatible

I assume you've enabled Firewire in your bios?

Yeah I have Firewire enabled in my bios, and I have tried to just start fresh again and it still didn't work. I have tried removing APPLEHPET.kext in s/l/e as some have suggested and that didn't help either. This is quite frustrating, as I made this system for video editing and Firewire is kind of neccessary.

How do you have your graphics card connected to your display? I had mine connected through HDMI to my TV and after updating to 10.6.2 I also would get a black screen upon booting up. Apparently the NVDANV40Hal, NVDANV50Hal, and the NVDAResman kexts in s/l/e were the culprit as Apple changed them with the update. Something to do with the HDCP protection. I had to replace them with the ones from 10.6.1 as a temporary fix until a permanent solution can be made.

Sorry, don't know the answer then. For me it always worked out of the box (as I've read it does for 99% of people, you

shouldn't need do anything so I've read)

I did have a problem with the slide tray not working properly with a Nikon Coolscan 4000 but it was fixed when I

downloaded a patched SL version of vuescan

By the way I'm running a vanilla setup

I'm using an USB to run the script but when i reach STEP 6 nothing happens'The script will check for the presence of a mounted "Mac OS X Install DVD" (or ISO) and prompt you if you wish to run that installer (option #3 (EFI), or #4 (Extra)). Install from your Retail DVD.''What am i doing wrong here.If i want try restoring the image of SN/L to the usb i xant use this script right?

Just to clarify i dont have my Hackintosh assembled as yet(waiting for parts to arrive).I'm using an imac at work.I've created an image of a retail SN/L 10.6.2 DVD an downloaded the files given in this guide an formatted a 16GB usb stick.Can summ one guide me through this (I know it says the script fool proof so i guess i'm an exception :D.

Hi there to everyone!!!

I'm just SOOo HAPPY!! My UD5 is running Snow Leopard in 64 bits flawlessly(also in 32 bit); now, I have a question: Is there any of you getting NTFS R/W capability OUT OF THE BOX? if not, what program are you using?

Thanks againg DD againg for the script and for this thread, both are equally awesome!!

THANKS DD!

Just wanted to post my success. I was running 10.5.8 using DD's script and just now upgraded to Snow, I was waiting until I had the time.

Followed the instructions to the T and everything worked just fine in 32 bit mode. I just started running in 64 bit today and the only thing that broke was ntfs-3g and shutdown/restart (would shutdown OS but case and fans stayed on.) Also Temperature Monitor did not detect my CPU sensors.

I fixed restart/shutdown using EvOreboot.kext in place of OpenHaltRestart.kext

Is there any of you getting NTFS R/W capability OUT OF THE BOX? if not, what program are you using?

Fixed ntfs-3g by uninstalling ntfs-3g and macfuse, reinstalling ntfs-3g and installing macfuse 2.1.7

iStat menus can be used instead of Temperature Monitor.

Lastly, I was using Belkin Wireless N Adaptor F5D8053 for wireless. It ran fine in 32 bit mode but the Realtek WLAN client utility does not run in 64 bit mode. Still looking for a fix for this. Currently using ethernet and an old nyko wireless extender for game consoles for internet.

Other than that so far so good!

Thanks again DD!

Dajjal,

I need to update the instructions to coincide with latest script update. The menu numbers don't correspond to the features. I used to have the menu numbers change based on what features are available, but that made it confusing when the features changed (the menu numbers changed, too). So, now the menu numbers are the same on this latest release, making it easier to memorize.

You say nothing happens when you select "Run Retail DVD installer"? The ISO needs to be mounted for this to work. If it is mounted, what is the name of this ISO? It looks for this exact name, "Mac OS X Install DVD".

That's so odd, as the recent bootloaders only uses the one in /Extra. The one in /SystemConfiguration is used by real Macs or older bootloaders, like Chameleon 1.0.12. My script will list it in the Plist Editor if there isn't one in /Extra.

It makes me wonder what state the boot.plist in /Extra is in. Can you post that plist?

Which bootloader are you using?

I have asked this before but, there are so many people here now. And that is a good thing. Still questions get lost (or no one else knows but I doubt it). So here goes,

I have installed SNL on a single drive, but, I Still have two admin accounts and I Cant erase one. With that the startup icon is not showing on the desktop.

I have no sound in SNL either.

Hopefully I will see a full guide yet for my board due to the kindness of others. However, can anyone please comment on fixing the sound in SNL?

It would be good if anyone knows how to clear the added admin account as well.

Thanks

Hello all,

First of all, DD, thanks a lot! U did a great job!

Got my retail Snowflake up and running on GATEWAY FX6801-01 RT.

I don't know what motheboard it has or audio (gateway doesn't disclose this info for some reason, know it X58 intel based only), got Nvidia285GT.

Actually I started with D620SLV1.iso which is an image for Dell with Chameleon inside, then installed vanila Snowflake + patch from DD + generated 285GT configuration in OSX86Tools.

What is really surprising, I cannot enable my Audio with DD's tools but that image for Dell computers contains some kext that makes my audio working. I saw VoodooHDA.kext there, tried to install it but with no luck.

Just wonder how they did this trick? :)

Well, everything works great except for Audio and Network. 10.6.2 update was installed successfully as well.

So guys, if you have any ideas how to figure out why exactly this D620SLV1.iso enables my sound, please let me know ))

I'd really appreciate any assistance with that.

Good luck to everyone!

Actually I was too fast to say sound is not working.

I've deleted LegacyHDA and HDAEnabler from Extensions and keep VoodooHDA. Now my sounds works just perfect :shock:

DD, thanks again!

How large is that D620SLV1 ISO?

If it's reasonable size, I could download it and look at it for you.

Or, you could extract the kexts yourself.

When that ISO is mounted, there should be a Extra folder. Inside that folder may be a "Extensions" folder or some other named folder that contains the needed kexts. Those kexts may be missing and it's just compressed into a boot cache file (mkext file).

Edit: Okay, I see you got audio. Do you know what chipset is used for your Ethernet?

Sound on the UD4P is the same as on the UD5, AFAIK.

What kexts are you using for sound and where are they installed?

Also, what shows up in the Output panel of your Sound preferences panel?

FYI, the hard drive icons on the desktop is a Finder preference.

I not to sure if it was mounted so that could be my problem,but i cant try it until monday when i go to work :dance_24:.What i ended up doing was following this guide

and i replaced his Chameleon an boot file together wit with the ones u provided and did the restore to usb.On Another note i think if summ on could make a vid like the one i linked that will be great as well(for peps like myself an stuff).As i stated before i'm waiting on my case & psu so once it reaches i can try it.What bios should i have to get this working?If i want to overclock this should be done only after everthing is working right?also the other drivers such as sata,lan etc would be taken care of with the files provided X58 Mobo Patch Installer,Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5 motherboard kexts for Snow Leopard.Please excuse my newbieness but im accostom to normal windows install so this is out of my league an i know normally after windows installs then u install drivers.I'm doing this mainly for Logic studio so anyone out there have logic running good.

Sorry for the noobish response but, how can I tell? The script installs as 32 bit - I think.

I have not gotten it to bot in single user mode for a while now. So I assume this has to be done with loading the right script? On second thought .. I saw this once before - but not now. Looking at the apple.com.Boot.plist I don't see any flags about booting in 32. Can anyone suggest how this should look please?

Thanks

Click the Apple in the upper left corner, then about this mac, then more info, then software.

Look at the line that says " 64-bit Kernel and Extensions: No"

Click the Apple in the upper left corner, then about this mac, then more info, then software.

Look at the line that says " 64-bit Kernel and Extensions: No"

System Software Overview:

 System Version:	Mac OS X 10.6.2 (10C540)
 Kernel Version:	Darwin 10.2.0
 Boot Volume:	big mac
 Boot Mode:	Normal
 Computer Name:	mine
 User Name:	mine again
 Secure Virtual Memory:	Not Enabled
 64-bit Kernel and Extensions:	Yes
 Time since boot:	54 seconds

I take it this means I am booting in 64 bit mode? How do I change it to boot in 32 bit mode? I have not been able to do the command v to catch single user boot.

What kexts are you using for sound and where are they installed?

Also, what shows up in the Output panel of your Sound preferences panel?

The sound output panel, I don't know. But I can tell you that the menu bar sound slider is grayed out and at the bottom. I will have to reboot and check the sound output panel.

Not sure where I should look to tell you what it is booting ... The library/preferences/audio/apple.com.plist is this:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
  <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">
  <plist version="1.0">
  <dict>
   <key>version</key>
   <integer>1</integer>
  </dict>
  </plist>

Under Vanilla FIles, I have the following folders;

   AppleACPIPlatform.kext
  AppleAHCIPort.kext
  AppleEFIRuntime.kext
  AppleHDA.kext
  AppleSMBIOS.kext
  com.apple.boot.plist
  --->
  <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
  <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">

   <key>Kernel Flags</key>
   <string>busratio=20 -v macmodel=MacPro3,1 MemSpeed=1600 MemType=DDR3</string>
  </dict>
  </plist>

  IOAHCIFamily.kext
  IOATAFamily.kext
  JMicronATA.kext
  Mach_kernal
  System.kext

FYI, the hard drive icons on the desktop is a Finder preference.

No, this is different. There are two admin accounts. I did that because it was suggested I first set up a working install, then migrate over my old files. That left me with two admin accounts. Maybe that is why or maybe not but, I Have all the normal mounted disks on the desktop, except the boot volume. I haven't checked finder prefs but I don't think that is what you meant.

Anyone know where I can find these kexts for 10.6.1, I need hdmi support

NVDANV40Hal.kext

NVDANV50Hal.kext

NVDAResman.kext

Also would i just replace the kexts in the system/library/extensions folder?

i found these links in another thread. the first two files are on the first link and the last is on the second. all i did was replace these files in s/l/e with the downloaded 10.6.1 files. repair permissioins and reboot. hope this helps as a temporary fix until something more concrete comes along.

After migrating to a SSD with Carbon copy cloner and then installing PC EFI, I cant boot the drive from BIOS. However if I boot my old drive and use that bootloader, I can select this SSD and boot. Any thoughts on this? I also have tried settting partition active with DD script.
