Following the removal of NullCPUManagement & SleepEnabler I don't get the kernel panics with Safari, TimeMachine etc after waking from sleep

Are you saying that S3 sleep works correctly without NullCPUManagement & SleepEnabler ?

When I had my original intel cooler I was at about 40+ and just over 60C when running handbrake (the first light on the mobo used to light up) This was at stock speed

 

When I was at 3.6GHz I recall I was at about 68-72 in prime95 (with NullCPUManagement) with 3rd party cooler

 

I would expect 4.1 Ghz to be a couple of orders higher.

 

I don't think the temp sensors are quite right.

 

I'm running at 3.8Ghz on 40 idle and 71 under prime 95 load. That's what the Easy Tune application from Gigabyte says, and also what BIOS says.

 

The iStat menus say it's 50 idle and I even saw it touch 90 for a couple of seconds under load in OSX. It then jumped down to 80 while still under load.

Does sleep/wake work properly (with hibernate 0 or 3 in dsdt) in both 32/64 bit with this setup ?

Is anyone using GraphicsEnabler in their boot.plist and is it functioning correctly on EX58-UD5 with Cham RC3?

 

I've just loaded a new drive with Snow Leopard and DD's default kexts (not ATY) and plists. I noticed that both GraphicsEnabler and EthernetBuiltIn keys are in by default but I don't think either work (I still need to add EFI string for 7300GT and install a network kext).

 

Any feedback appreciated.

 

At my knowledge GraphicsEnabler = yes will work best when there is a rom image in /Extra. If you have a good EFI string you don't need it and vise versa.

(for GraphicsEnabler and ethernetbuiltin options)" (by default UID=0 )

 

I don't think that the use of GraphicsEnabler and EthernetBuiltIn keys is to forget all about kext of your material but more to better recognize and use the specific material you have !

Now I read of all these DSDT fixes and different network kexts. I saw that DD himself has quite a collection

in his script and I tried several myself. In the end I always switch back to the Realtek1000 one (1.8.1, I guess).

 

So @digital_dreamer: Will you integrate all these DSDT fixes for Power Management/Sleep/Audio etc in your DSDT patcher?

Working SL 10.6.2 32/64 Bit Install

 

Please read carefully and thoroughly, dont just scroll through because when things dont work the way you want them to, you'll start posting and asking questions that have already been answered in this post.

NOTE: If updating to 10.6.2 from fresh SL install or 10.6.1 then replace SLEEP ENABLER with the attached one. Delete the one in your /Extra/Stored_kexts folder, run DD's script and use option 6 to rebuild caches. Install 10.6.2 update, reboot.

 

Copy attached SleepEnabler to/Extra/Stored_kexts, run DD's script again to update boot caches and everything should be fine.

 

This was a request made by Emilo so for those interested you can download the files modify and use as you wish....besides they are not my files...

 

This method makes no use of patched DSDT's and neither does it incorporate automatic GPU and Ethernet Built In detection so if you want to use patched DSDT's then check out Emilo's guide here

 

Thanks to DD for his wonderful Script: Emilo, d00d, and LocusOfControl for posting the RealtekR1000 kext and to all you folks who pitched in here and there.

 

What works:

• S3 sleep in 32/64 bit modes (Issuing sleep from the apple menu puts the system to sleep immediately)
   
  
  
• Automatic sleep (idle mode)
  Note: System goes to sleep but 2 or more minutes after monitor goes in standby mode...This is due to a lot of factors (drives, peripherals, etc etc...still trying to figure out a fix, if there indeed is one)
   
  
  
• Wake from keyboard or mouse
  
• Onboard Lan, Bonjour in 32/64 bit
  
• 5.1 Surround Sound in 32/64 bit with VoodooHDA in S/L/E
  
• Video in 32/64 bit with Efi strings
  
• Restart/Shutdown
  
• Firewire
  
• Time Machine
  

For those of you who want to use bluetooth services, I advice you to purchase this dongle. it works OOB and doesnt go to sleep. (32/64 bit compatible)

 

Anyways, here is my method of install.

 

I burnt this boot CD and used it to boot and install off the Retail DVD. You can use DD's script from a working Leopard or SL install. I prefer usnig the BootCD because I can build my bootcaches without booting in single user mode and I get to install everything.

 

After install I used DD's script to patch my DSDT, install Chameleon 2RC3 and the necessary kexts.

Note I used ATY_Init in S/L/E on first boot. It is only 32 bit compatible.

 

Once booted into SL, create EFI strings for your GPU instead as this works in both 32/64 bit modes.

 

In S/L/E

RealtekR1000.kext

VoodooHDA.kext

 

VoodooHDA is both 32/64 bit compatible so if you dont want to patch your DSDT like moi, then use this kext. It has excellent layout options and my Logitech Z-5500 Digital 5.1 Speaker System works like a charm using 6 channel Direct effect. Full surround

I have no com.apple.boot.Plist in my Extra folder. I deleted this when I realised it was ignored and the one found in Library/Preferences/SytemConfiguration was being used instead. (who the heck makes these decisions..LOL)

 

Anyways I have attached the 2 kexts in S/L/E, smbios.plist and my DSDT (you dont need my DSDT since you can use the one DD's script patched for you in your extra folder)

NB. Paragon NTFS doesnt work in 64 bit mode so my Windows 7 disk fails to mount, Working on a FIX

 

Update : Windows 7 partition now mounts with full write support using NTFS 3G.

 

Install NTFS 3G, go into your system preferences and uninstall macfuse. Download this new version of macfuse and install, reboot and voila. As you can see in the screenshot, it says macfuse veriosn is 2.1.7 so do not update to 2.0.3 (makes no sense I know but I just want to be on the safe side

You can activate it using this tool http://whine.fr/sl-ntfs/. This guy found how to active it and wrote a tiny tool for this function.

You can also activate NTFS Write function on your own by reading his post : Activer l'écriture NTFS

 

It should work in 64 bits. I suppose that Apple didn't publish this because it's not reliable... (and I read there were some modification to the NTFS interface with the 10.6.2)

Here's mine - seems to work fine in hibernate 0 or 3, no kernel panics etc

Only issue is I need to manually restart bluetooth as it doesn't wake up after sleep

Installed using the kext installer and get no sound. iTunes plays at 10x its normal speed too.

 

Any Ideas? I haven't removed AppleHDA.kext or HDAEnabler.kext, could that be the problem?

Yes remove those 2 kexts from S/L/E and use kext utility to repair permissions and then reboot.

Like I wrote in my post, I only have 2 kexts in S/L/E, Realtek1000 and VoodooHDA

Well if apple didnt publish it based on unreliability then I will keep my fingers away from it...I dont want loss of data. I will try with NTFS 3G when I have more time.

I've been using a ga-ex58-ud4p motherboard in 64 bit mode. This 'native' OSX NTFS method really does lead to a lot of data errors both in OSX and in Windows. I've researched and tested 'read and write' compatibility using NTFS-3G (version 2009.4.4) along with MacFuse (version 2.1.7) and this combination works great. I have a 500gb drive that has over 120gb's of movie DVDs that I use for my media center. Most of the folders are in the vicinity 8-9gb each. I have 5 1tb samsung drives (including an eSATA drive) and I transferred all 120+gb's from one drive to another (over several days) and then back to my original drive.

 

When I plugged any one of these drives, I was able to access each DVD in my media center. Admittedly, I didn't watch all of every disc (would've taken me weeks) but I didn't find any errors or data loss. For my windows media center, I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit. I did all the testing on my disks using OSX 10.6.1 in 64 bit mode. Hope this helps a bit.

Has anyone been able to get two identical video cards working with this MB on 10.6?

 

I have the system booting with dual monitors right now on one eVGA 9500GT 1GB DVI/DVI, but when I add a second card in, I can't get it to boot. It just locks. When I switch to PCI16-2 in the BIOS, it boots all the way in, but my screens are black.

 

I am trying to get four monitors working.

I have windows 7 installed and the way I did it was unplugging ALL drives and leaving a NEW unformatted drive for Windows. booting from the W7 CD and installing to the blank drive. Once everything is done I shut done. Placed my OSX disk back in the FIRST SATA plug and the W7 on the second and hold the space bar at Cham boot to choose between the two.

I built this hackintosh using the UD5 board. I'm having trouble syncing my Apple TV to my hack? I'm thinking that my bonjour service might not be working properly. I have connected another mac to my hackintosh itunes and was able to stream but the Apple TV just doesn't want to connect. I have changed my router setting to allow AP isolation. Is the bonjour test that i can run to see what's the deal?

Try the Bonjour Browser program here:

If you can see local network services, like iTunes sharing on another computer on your same network, then Bonjour is good to go. You should be able to see you AppleTV, Time Capsule, Airport Express, etc. using this program.

 

If Bonjour does not work, try this kext which is supposed to fix the problem and is 32/64bit compatible. I have not yet tested it, though:
