Cool McCool
Have retail OSX86 installs gotten MUCH easier since I installed Leopard for the first time (May 2008)? Oooh yes. Back then I used Brazilmac shell scripts to create a bootable and modified OSX Leopard iso which I used to install Leopard. I knew nothing of OSX86, and it was a real trial by fire. At the time most people were using Kalyway, but I wanted to support Apple, buy the DVD, and do it myself. The Brazilmac scripts that I found were b-u-g-g-y. I mean REALLY buggy, and I had to edit the scripts, and since I was a newbie it meant I had to first figure out what wasn't working. It took me a week to sort through it all, but finally I had my golden Brazilmac Leopard DVD. It was a real thrill to see the system boot for the first time. Ahh those were the old days, but I'm not going to call them GOOD. Thanks to tseung who created these instructions, I had Snow Leopard installed and running in less than an hour. Wow. THANKS TSEUNG AND TO EVERYONE WHO HAS CONTRIBUTED TO OSX86.
Stellair
Tell me tseug, I read that some people have some problems to overclock their Q6600 when they have more than 4gb ram. I want to have 8gb of ram. Are you aware of this? Does someone know if there is a board that hasn't the sleep problem and perform like the DS4 or better? red!
hi tseug it worked great on my pc too. also the update to 10.6.2 the only problem i have right now is, when i change my resolution higher than it is defined after the installation, it hangs and you see only a blue background. when i restart it boots ok until it wants to load the logon screen or automatically wants to log me in. i followed your instructions until step #7 and then followed the instruction on this thread how to install 10.6.2 update. so far so good, just that the resolution is not very great. Do i need to try NVinject or add the graphic card with EFI Studio to the boot.plist? thx red!

Unklemac
Hi again all. Firstly thanks for the excellent guide! 1000 cheers! So I finally got it up and running "perfectly", but then I updated to 10.6.2 in a combo update directly from apple, and I get this KP at boot-up. My system: EP35-DS4, E8400 CPU, 8800GT. I can see there is something about the sleep-enabler, but not sure if that is it alone. What do you think ?

Hi, you have to switch to another sleepenabler.kext version. Delete the old one, download and install the appropriate sleepenabler for 10.6.2. You can find it in previous posts. remember to follow the appropriate way to instal kext (chmod, chown, etc.) Bye.

protech
updated to 10.6.2 and changed SleepEnabler.Still KP any suggestions? Thanks, oetzi, I figured that out and it worked! FavleX, you have to let Software Update download the update, then before installing, replace the existing SleepEnabler.kext with the new one found here: http://files.netkas.org/10.6.2/SleepEnabler.kext.zip repair permisions, Kext Utility is useful for that, and then you can press "Restart" buttton in the Software update, which installs the update and reboots. It booted without a problem, writing this from 10.6.
protech
SL is running greatly using this guide, and I am extremely satisfied and grateful. The only problem I currently have is that my second ethernet adapted (PCI card) is not recognized (it was running ok on 10.5). Can you guys help me with how I can add it and where? Is this what EFIstudio is for? And how to use it? Thanks a lot!
michaspoli
Thanks for the guide. Works perfect. But i have always the Bios ACPI Problems, wenn i shutdown the HackMac. I know its possible to solve this problem with dsdt, but i had problems with dsdt - with grafik or sound. And its not so easy to create a perfect dsdt. Whats the Best Bios for P35-ds4? Does it give a kext for the acpi Problems (start problem bios, loop - black screen...)? ________________________________________________________________________________ When i use the dsdt Patcher 0.6 from this thread, Bios problem doesnt exists more. But now i have no sound more. Can I delete the HDEF section of the dsdt? My Sound Chip is ALC 889a

omf
Everything is working beautifully with the exception of hard drive speed. There seem to be long pauses and frequent "beach-balls" with anything having to do with disk access. Has anyone else seen this? I'm using a GA-P35-DS4 v2.1 with the ICH9R controller. My BIOS SATA settings are configured for "AHCI" and "Native SATA".

Nvidia 8600 GT 512 MB I also installed KX Sound Drivers for my Creative Audigy Sound Card. Much better from sound card of my mobo. I also use PC EFI 10.3 cause Chameleon 2 RC3 had some serious problem with boot. I dont know why. I have some issues...but i think that can be solved. One of them is automatic sleep. It just doesnt work... It works only for Display Sleep not for Computer. I tried "PleaseSleep" application but nothing yet Any suggestions? omf
Check your bios settings... Read the first post again.. BIOS settings are for ACHI and native SATA access (though I've also tried all the other options, just in case). I doubt it's a drive problem, as it works fine with Windows and Linux. Plus, other users have reported slow SATA issues using the ICH9R controller, so assumed it was not uncommon. What kexts or other mods are you using? Anything not specifically included in this guide? martinW
Thank you so much for taking the time to put this guide together! Nothing exciting here, just an EP35-DS4 with an NV8800GT graphics card but all the same I'd been putting off my upgrade on the hackPC since the day the Leopard DVD dropped through the door (release day!). I will add what I did though as I don't think it was typical and it may help others... I already had a good fully working Chameleon / 10.5.8 install and I didn't desperately feel like starting over so since everything was backed up to my Time Capsule I went for it anyway. I created the boot disk, then booted the Leopard install DVD. It allowed me to do an upgrade quite happily. Then rebooted, again using the boot CD and followed the rest of the instructions. Worked perfectly. Something else I had to modify was that after running the Snow Pack install I had to manually install Chameleon RC3 and move the boot & Extra folder to my EFI partition since at one point in the past I set my system up to have all the custom stuff on the EFI partition. Only other thing was having to insert the string for my GPU into the boot.plist but that was all there in the guide. Thanks again!
davejones
Hey guys, I was just wondering has tseug abandoned this project? Only reason I ask is that I have not seen any replies/advise from him for quite some time, and there have been no updates to the Installer to coincide with the new releases of certain updates to kexts and the Chameleon boot loader files? Anyways, just curious... Let me know  Cheers, davejones
