1)I am using the versions you linked to in your 1st post

That is:

nForceIOATAFamily.kext from Part K. Item 3. from joel

32bit and 64bit patched IOATAFamily kexts that are apparently patched for fast boot times (posted by scififan68) from Part K Item 6. MeDevil & Slashack & AnV / imk AppleNForceATA_Snow.zip ( 728.29K ) : A functional 64bit AppleNForceATA.kext

2)The are in S/L/E. How do I check what is loading from a kextstat command?

Type

kextstat

in Terminal. This will tell you if nForceIOATAFamily.kext and/or 64bit IOATAFamily.kext is loading

3)I have no idea what you are talking about so I assume the answer is no.

This was discussed in Part K items 3. and 6.

Here are the results of the kextstat command

I'm not sure if the kexts are local root or root. Should I change them to root and if so how do I go about that.

The kextstat command does not show nForceIOATAFamily.kext being loaded.......I guess because it probably is a 32bit only kext but I could be wrong....?

Go to Show Package Contents >>>> Contents >>>> Info.plist and look down at the bottom for:

<key>OSBundleRequired</key>

look for

<string>Local-Root</string> if not already changed

or

<string>Root</string> if already changed

Change the OSBundleRequired property value in the Info.plist file of the 64bit IOATAFamily.kext and of the kexts in PlugIns from Local-Root to Root if not changed already....

I have not yet checked using XCode to see if and how nForceIOATAFamily.kext and the 64bit IOATAFamily.kext differ......

I am following part b on your guide with the DSDT.aml

specifically the post with you and Msaleh where he is trying to

1. Generate a RTC patched DSDT.aml file for SL [Part B]

2. Produce a USB flash drive installer employing an image file of your Retail Mac OS X Snow Leopard Install DVD [Part C]

3. Use Disk Utility to get the UUID for your target SL OS X volume

4. Establish OS X target HDD ownership

and so on....

Anyway on part b I am following your guide to make a DSDT and copy it to my desktop...

I go through the Copy fassl's DSDT_Patcher1.0.1e.zip file

and am getting about half way through... It is not producing a backup for me... more specifically its not copying it to the desktop at the end because it says it doesnt exist....

Here is what is going on in terminal

I dont have the same things that you do for patching... like i dont have a att1

could you please look over mine and tell me whats up and possibly help me out?

I will attatch a copy on my folder with the files in it...

Thanks again.

also i should not i have just finally installed leopard with kalyway 10.5.2 I dont have any kexts yet for graphics and the usb still doesnt work... I just had an ethernet card laying around and that worked thankfully for the internet.... Also in system profiler it says my core 2 duo only have one core.... and my ram says 667... im pretty sure its 800 but i can double check.

I am very new with this... is this info that also needs to be is the DSDT???

my specs are as follows

ddr2 800

msi p6n sli downgraded bios to 2.2

i installed this kalyway maybe like a year ago or more and i remember a seatbelt.kext for some reason and

1. The DSDT_Patcher1.0.1e folder should itself be placed on the Desktop, then the DSDT Patcher UNIX executable file will create a Debug folder within the DSDT_Patcher1.0.1e folder and generate a number of files within the Debug folder:

dsdt_fixed.txt

dsdt.dsl

hpet_fixed.txt

nforcer.tar

rtc_fixed.txt

and a dsdt.aml file within the DSDT_Patcher1.0.1e folder......

2. Device (RTC0) it is the same thing as Device (RTC).........your DSDT.aml file has compiled properly with no errors and warnings......

3. As for System Profiler showing the correct RAM speed, you need to have:

<key>SMmemtype</key>

<string>19</string>

<key>SMmemspeed</key>

<string>800</string>

in your SMBIOS.plist file in /Extra.....

4. Your gtx400 graphics card (which is a Fermi card) will need at least 10.6.5 to give full support for Core Image and Quartz Extreme.....

I am currently reinstalling kalyway, i tried to install snow leopard a few times with no success...

The folder was on the desktop, and the desktop did have those files in there from what i recall including the debug fil...

does the patcher automatically fix that stuff because i noticed when i opended them all the values that i could tell were fixex....

the value for the rtc was there but i couldnt find the value for the hdd1 and resource one....

This time when installing kalyway im installing with the 800 smbios

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

After update it is now detecting 2 cores and 800mhz for the ddr2....

I will try patching the dsdt again...

ok so im running into the same problems... everything goes fine until im to the part where we are trying to get DSDT.aml to the desktop

first time the only thing i have is the DSDT_Patcher1.0.1e folder on the desktop... i dont have dsdt.aml on the desktop that is within the patcher folder...

greg-stevenslys-mac-pro:DSDT_Patcher1.0.1e gregstevensly$ cp dsdt.aml /Users/greg stevensly/Desktop/DSDT.aml

usage: cp [-R [-H | -L | -P]] [-fi | -n] [-pvX] source_file target_file

cp [-R [-H | -L | -P]] [-fi | -n] [-pvX] source_file ... target_directory

the second time i was like well maybe i need to point to that folder... even though i know im already in that folder..

greg-stevenslys-mac-pro:DSDT_Patcher1.0.1e gregstevensly$ cp /Users/greg stevensly/Desktop/DSDT_Patcher1.0.1e/dsdt.aml /Users/greg stevensly/Desktop/DSDT.aml

usage: cp [-R [-H | -L | -P]] [-fi | -n] [-pvX] source_file target_file

cp [-R [-H | -L | -P]] [-fi | -n] [-pvX] source_file ... target_directory

the third time i went into the patcher folder and copied the dsdt.aml on the desktop....

greg-stevenslys-mac-pro:DSDT_Patcher1.0.1e gregstevensly$ cp dsdt.aml /Users/greg stevensly/Desktop/DSDT.aml

usage: cp [-R [-H | -L | -P]] [-fi | -n] [-pvX] source_file target_file

cp [-R [-H | -L | -P]] [-fi | -n] [-pvX] source_file ... target_directory

greg-stevenslys-mac-pro:DSDT_Patcher1.0.1e gregstevensly$

Im assuming this step should produce DSDT.aml on my desktop... but its not. Can i just manually copy and paste it to the desktop and rename it DSDT?

Also do i need anything in that debug folder within the patcher folder? or only the dsdt that is in the patcher folder?

Also part of the reason for the reinstall was because my usb flash drive is detected in system profiler but not finder or disk utility... any ideas?

usage: cp [-R [-H | -L | -P]] [-fi | -n] [-pvX] source_file target_file

cp [-R [-H | -L | -P]] [-fi | -n] [-pvX] source_file ... target_directory

the third time i went into the patcher folder and copied the dsdt.aml on the desktop....

greg-stevenslys-mac-pro:DSDT_Patcher1.0.1e gregstevensly$ cp dsdt.aml /Users/greg stevensly/Desktop/DSDT.aml

usage: cp [-R [-H | -L | -P]] [-fi | -n] [-pvX] source_file target_file

cp [-R [-H | -L | -P]] [-fi | -n] [-pvX] source_file ... target_directory

greg-stevenslys-mac-pro:DSDT_Patcher1.0.1e gregstevensly$

Im assuming this step should produce DSDT.aml on my desktop... but its not. Can i just manually copy and paste it to the desktop and rename it DSDT?

Also do i need anything in that debug folder within the patcher folder? or only the dsdt that is in the patcher folder?

Also part of the reason for the reinstall was because my usb flash drive is detected in system profiler but not finder or disk utility... any ideas?

DSDT Patcher generates the dsdt.aml file within the DSDT_Patcher1.0.1e folder......make a copy of this on the Desktop and then rename it as DSDT.aml and put DSDT.aml in /Extra......although DSDT.aml is the file you need, the original dsdt.aml file and the dsdt.dsl file in the Debug folder are worth keeping......dsdt.dsl is the file that is patched and then compiled to produce the patched dsdt.aml file in the DSDT_Patcher1.0.1e folder......

Have you set up your BIOS correctly using my 650i BIOS template (see link in post #1) and partitioned and formatted your bootable USB flash drive as initially FAT32 or NTFS.......both are readable by OS X......and then re-partitioned and formatted it as GPT and Mac OS Extended (Journaled), respectively......?

hey so i got 10.6 to install

all was great then i decided to update to 10.6.7 using #####

I dl my DSDT file on my desktop (i had emailed it to myself)

then i dl ##### and combo update

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

when i installed the combo update i went ahead and started #####

i chose the chameleon 2 rc5 pre release

when im doing this i followed the instructions

after all was done i went to reboot and then i kept getting the no smoking sign on the apple so i booted verbose mode

after doing so i see it was waiting for root device...

when looking on the bootloader it said rc2 and i chose rc5 from #####.... and even chose rc3 for my thumbdrive install

so i took out the thumb drive, made sure it was booting from my hdd and it still said rc2....

is this because the dsdt file?

My dsdt file was created when i was able to successfully install kalyway 10.5.2

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

so i figured i need to repartition the drive.... i unplugged my hdd from the computer then hooked it up to my mac (i have a internal hdd but i have some hardware that can make it to an external)

ran disk utility then it failed to mount...

so i did it again and it went past mounting.... then it failed during partition....

i then plugged in back to my pc and now it isnt even recognized in the bios....

Download and run the standalone 10.6.7 Combo Update installer..........backup your OS X system to the 2nd OS X volume that I hope you have set up (as I recommend) and quit all open applications before running the installer............if you have any problems, then boot in verbose Safe Mode (i.e. boot with -v -x) and then re-run the Combo Update Installer..........running OS X installers in Safe Mode can be very effective at solving system problems because of what Safe Mode accomplishes.......see here.........

The DSDT.aml file does not affect which version of Chameleon is installed.......the DSDT.aml in /Extra is loaded into RAM by the Chameleon bootloader overwriting the original unpatched DSDT uploaded by the BIOS..........

The manual installation procedure for Chameleon on a normal non-RAID system is as follows:

Normal Install (non-RAID):

--------------------------

Suppose that your installation is on /dev/disk0s2

- Install boot0 to the MBR:

sudo ./fdisk440 -f boot0 -u -y /dev/rdisk0

- Install boot1h to the partition's bootsector:

sudo dd if=boot1h of=/dev/rdisk0s2

- Install boot to the partition's root directory:

sudo cp boot /

No need to use startupfiletool anymore!

after installing max osx 10.6 on my hdd, do i need to install chameleon on the hdd?

i know we installed it on the thumbdrive but do we need to do this on the hdd so we can boot?

Im not sure if this is part D on your guide because you are telling us to do things on our desktop... are you assuming we have leopard installed on a partition at this point? I have been doing all my usb work on a separate imac because when i installed kalyway my usb's didnt work because the kernel didnt match the system.kext

everytime i tried to fix it i couldnt boot into leopard anymore...

Yes.........you need to install Chameleon on the HDD..........follow part D using your USB flash drive installer produced following Part C, after having sorted out your DSDT.aml file by following Part B........

Have you booted from the Kalyway Install DVD and used Disk Utility to repair OS X permissions.....? Or simply reinstall OS X Leopard......

Ya im just trying too many things at once... I should really just start paying attention to my kernal panics and posting them..

Weird things are happening, like my usb thumb drive only works once then i get waiting for root.

or for example if my hdd is formatted hfs and i need to reinstall the drives arent recognized when i get to disk utility.

i have to boot the xp cd and format to ntfs then it will see it.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

currently i am trying to just go back to what worked to get osx 10.6

then take it from there

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

would you recommend to put kalyway on one partition, keep it there then install osx 10.6 on a different partition?

I did patch my DSDT, I think i uploaded it in a earlier post if you can take a look.. I think its fine, but i think i just need to understand the dsdt...

Can i used my DSDT i extracted from kalyway on the thumbdrive to install to SL?

I will try and boot to kalyway then follow your guide through D...

My issue is getting the HDD to boot after i install SL, and i think part D will fix that.

My issue is when im in kalyway it wont detect my usb, and if it does and i unplug it it freezes the machine.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Also would it be ok to install rc5 on my sl boot drive? I only ask because from what i read it is the only way to get the gtx 460 drivers to work.

Thanks again for all your help... im going to have to buy you a bottle when all is said and done... lol

Has anyone been successful on an nforce 750i sli motherboard? If yes, could you explain how you did it in steps. Thanks, much appreciated

Yes, quite a number have as you can see from the survey results at the head of post #1 of this topic...........

If you are happy with a cut-down distro SL install, then follow http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...p;showentry=816, otherwise if you want a full Retail SL install then follow the guide in post #1 of this thread as outlined below:

First of all, check your BIOS settings against the recommended settings for 750i in post #1 of this thread and change as required......

With a SATA DVDRW and AppleNForceATA.kext and OS X, you may have disk reading problems and will not be able to burn disks.......hence, with a SATA DVDRW and 3GB RAM, then you should/can useMeDevil's AppleNForceATA_TEST.kext (but if you have >3GB RAM, then you have to use maxmem=3072 in com.apple.Boot.plist with this kext).....

With an non-fully AHCI compliant nForce chipset MOBO such as a 750i chipset, a SATA DVDRW and SATA HDD combo is often a problem, as is a SATA DVDRW and IDE HDD combo........the best combo is a SATA HDD and a PATA (IDE) DVDRW that is jumper-set and connected as Master to your MOBO using a 80-wire IDE cable......with a PATA DVDRW, you can use slashack's AppleNForceATA.kext (and its later variants, e.g. by AnV etc.) with >3GB installed.......

For convenience, you should install OS X Leopard (either temporarily or permanently - your choice) on a HDD volume on a HDD(s) in the PC onto which you want to install Snow Leopard (either on a separate HDD and volume or on a another volume on the same HDD as Leopard:

1. Generate a RTC patched DSDT.aml file for SL [Part B]

2. Produce a USB flash drive installer employing an image file of your Retail Mac OS X Snow Leopard Install DVD [Part C]

3. Use Disk Utility to get the UUID for your target SL OS X volume

4. Establish OS X target HDD ownership

5. Run EFIStudio or OSx86Tools to generate the graphics string for your graphics card (to insert into com.apple.Boot.plist) UNLESS you propose to use Chameleon 2.0 RC3, 4, or 5's GraphicsEnabler=Yes flag in com.apple.Boot.plist OR NVEnabler.kext.......

6. Install Chameleon 2.0 RC3 (or RC4 or RC5) onto your target SL OS X volume and in the process generate a /Extra directory.....

Then

Read PART C if you want to produce a USB flash drive installer employing an image file of your Retail Mac OS X Snow Leopard Install DVD......

and then

Read PART D if you want to install from a USB flash drive to a GPT HDD volume.....

OR

Read PART E if you want to install from a USB flash drive to a MBR HDD volume.....

BUT

Read PART F if you want to install from a Retail Snow Leopard Mac OS X Install DVD disc to a GPT HDD volume using my nForceSLBoot132DVD......

UPDATE:

Ok so i just want to make sure I am doing this correctly...

first thing i have is 1 500gb hard drive with 4 partitions guid journaled

PArtitions:

1st: Leopard

2nd: Snow_Leopard

3rd: Snow_Leopard_backup

4th: other

on the first partition i installed kalyway 10.5.2

-I used the kernel: kernel_9.2_sleep

-did the usb fix

-dl chameleon 2 rc5

-dl osx86tools

I had created the patched DSDT.aml on here. I them emailed it to myself.

On a different real imac i had dl your Snow files 2.2

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

creating the usb

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

-dl the dsdt file to my real imac

-dl your snow files

1) partitioned 8gb thumb drive to guid

2) got the uuid of the thumb drive

3) unched the ownership in get info

4) installed chameleon 2 rc3 installer from your snow files

5) put my dsdt on the usb volume.

6) added the extensions folder into extra (for some reason rc3 doesnt create that folder)

7) added the smbios and boot.plist in extra folder

8) added uuid for the thumb drive and 800mhz memory to smbios

9) used the boot.plist you had in snow (dont recall making changes to it

10) added your recomened kexts to the extra/extensions folder

11) in the platformuuid.kext I added the uuid for the thumbdrive

12) restored the retail dvd disc to the thumb drive

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

preparing the computer partition

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

booted into kalyway leopard 10.5.2

got the uuid for the Snow_Leopard partition

got the graphics string

pasted both in stickies

1)made sure ownership was unchecked (it was)

2)ran the command in terminal to fix permissions

3)installed chameleon v2 Rc5 installer to Snow_Leopard

I then proceeded to turn off the mac

took the usb installer from the imac and inserted into pc

changed boot to usb

the installer came up just fine, and I was able to install osx 10.6 fine.

It then rebooted, and i wasnt in the room but it went ahead and started to try and load osx

it came up with the no smoking sign above the apple logo, which in my experience has usually been because of waiting for root device

I then changed boot to SATA drive, and now i get an error before chameleon or anything comes on right after it posts saying

"H00000000

HFS+ partition error"

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I am trying to follow your guide the best I can but sometimes it takes me 3-5 times to re read something because you jump around a lot...

did I miss any steps or am i doing something wrong?

Should I not be putting these on the same hard drives?

im going to try and boot kalyway install dvd and see if i can erase the SL partition so I can at least get kalyway 10.5.2 to boot (hopefully)

Also since I am installing rc5 on the actual harddrive do i even need to put the platforuuid in the extra/extensions folder?

also if you would like to take a look on how i edited the plists and driver i can post that too. (im not sure if im putting the wrong uuid in there)

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

update

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXx

ok so i booted to kalyway disk and its saying the total capacity of my hard drive is 0 bytes and there arent any partitions on it.... very strange... its not letting me partition or anything... Guess i need to see if windows can reformat it.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

also after going back and re-reading some posts i see you say to put dsdt in the /extra folder..

do you mean to do this on the install thumbdrive? or do you mean when i install rc5 on the other partition it will put the folder /extras/extension and copy the smbios boot.plis and dsdt in the extra folder, and then copy over the other drivers in the extensions folder, and then install osx 10.6?

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

ok so i ended up re-reading the post because i was reading off a printed a version and missing the part where it explained to put kexts and stuff in the extra folder on the installing hard drive....

ok so i have a question, in your above posts you says to put dsdt in /extra folder on the hard drive; however on the guide you said to put it in /volume and not extra...

so after doing all this i get wait for root... wow...

usually what resolves this for me is remaking the usb install osx thumb drive

so im currently doing that right now...

will post when i have more info

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

w00t after recreating my thumbdrive (seems like after every install i have to recreate it for some reason or else i get waiting for root device)

I HAVE 10.6.0 with being able to boot from the hard drive.

i ended up installing leopard on one sata hd and sl on a different...

So far i have dl ps2 kexts and my ethernet kext... My ethernet card worked vanilla but it stops working and gets self asigned ip's after about 10 mins...

im about ready to update my os and have made a .dmg and restored the other drive with my install

xxxxxxxxx

i noticed my mouse flashes a lot for some odd reason, do you think its because i dont have my video card setup yet?

xxxxxxxxxxxx

So I have been fiddeling around with this for a long time now

-i cant get nvidia to install (im going to do a fresh install with a different rc5 version (the version that is with #####))

-i cant get my sound to work at all... I have alc888 on my msi p6n board

-usb devices, like my thumb drive do not mount... i will check out the link you gave me earlier to see if anything is in there about snow leopard

im a bit confused..so do I install the chameleon bootloader in the partition that im going to install snow right?

It is best install OS X on its own HDD rather than on a HDD that is shared with another OS such as Windows or Linux as if you install Chameleon bootloader on the HDD it will overwrite the Windows or Linux bootloader in the MBR (Master Boot Record).......unless you want to use Chameleon as your bootloader for Windows and/or Linux.........

You need to install the Chameleon bootloader on the USB flash drive OS X installer (if you are not using my SL Boot132DVD approach) and on the HDD onto which you intend to install OS X........

Manual installation of Chameleon:

Normal Install (non-RAID):

--------------------------

Suppose that your installation is on /dev/disk0s2

- Install boot0 to the MBR:

sudo fdisk -f boot0 -u -y /dev/rdisk0

- Install boot1h to the partition's bootsector:

sudo dd if=boot1h of=/dev/rdisk0s2

- Install boot to the partition's root directory:

sudo cp boot /

No need to use startupfiletool anymore!

im a bit confused..so do I install the chameleon bootloader in the partition that im going to install snow right?

Depends on how you are going to install...

basically you need to build the thumbdrive

then you need to build the hard drive you are going to install to.

What i would recommend is to install kalyway 10.2 leopard first

the reason i recommend it is

1) you can easily create your dsdt file needed for the thumbdrive and the harddrive preperation

2)you have access to the snowleopard install just in case it fails

in the thumbdrive you need to

1)partition to journaled guid

2)install chameleon on the thumb drive (i would recommend rc3 installer so you dont have to change out the boot files)

3)download verdands snow_support_files v2.2 or 2.3

4)place your dsdt on the thumbdrive

5) if you use the rc3 installer on the thumbdrive it will have an extra folder, but no extensions folder... you have to create an extensions folder

6)place any kexts you need from snow_support_files in the extensions folder.. I only used 4

7)open disk utility (another good reason to have leopard if you dont have a separate mac)

when disk utility is open click on your partitioned thumbdrive then on top left click on info...

this will tell you the uuid of the thumbdrive (it changes everytime you partition the drive)

copy this to stickies

8)take the smbios mac.plist from snowfiles and drag it to your extra folder on the thumbdrive

open it up in text edit. Paste the uuid you just copied into the smbios mac.plist... It will be under something like

<key>SMUUID</key>

<string>C34001D4-D3FF-3E37-A448-A59AA6BD54F4</string>

the part in the string section is where you replace that uuid with yours.

9) rename the smbios mac.plist to SMBIOS.plist

10)move the com.apple.boot.plist to the extra folder

-open the plist and you will see -32 or arch=i386...

since you are using chameleon delete the other one next to it, you only need arch=i386

save the plist.

11) move another dsdt to your extra folder (confused on this part, but it still should work)

12) get the SL DVD or iso and mount it.

13) find your thumbdrive in finder and right click and click get info... expand the permissions section and unlock it by clicking the lock... make sure the checkmark on the bottom of ignore ownership of this drive is unchecked... lock it again and close

14) open disk uitility and click on your thumb drive there should be a restore tab... click it

drag the snow leopard iso or dvd to the source, drag your thumbdrive to the destination.

uncheck erase destination

then click restore... this should take around 30 mins to restore on a 8gb thumbdrive

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

if you have leopard installed (recommend kalyway)

1)you should have your partitioned harddrives on the desktop

right click the one you want to install sl to and uncheck the option for ignore ownership

2)fix permissions on the drive you are going to install too... verdant has instruction on this on part d of this posts guide.

3)install chameleon to your install hard drive... I recommend rc5 v2 r877 because this is required in order to install any higher end graphics cards

4)the DSDT file and smbios and boot.plist you created earlier can be re-used... if you look on the hd you installed chameleon to you will see and extra folder place the dsdt, smbios, and boot.plist in there

5) also put the dsdt straight on the root of your install harddrive.

6) use snow_support_files again and drag over the same kexts you used on your thumb drive to the extra folder

7)restart your pc and boot into bios

8) change boot to the usb

9) when chameleon loads hit any key and boot from the thumbdrive, use -v

10) when the installer loads go through the prompts, click customize and choose what you want installed.. this doesnt really matter

11) choose the hard drive you made all those modifications to and the destination drive.

12) install and after install you can change the boot drive to your hard drive in bios

13) you can you the apple update it wont break anything

14) hopefully you have internet access so you can start fixing other stuff that doesnt work... lol

Ok, so I managed to get into retail installation, it installed successfully, but after the reboot, I load the SL partition and the screen just turns black and it reboots. Any idea....so close. Thanks
