i've recently installed 10.6.2 on my old c2q 780i system. this is my second attempt at a hackintosh, and it was altogether very painless. i used all the kexts listed before, nforceata, nforcelan, and such. i had to use the modified nforceata to run 8gb of ram. for graphics i use a gtx280 with just an efi string added to boot.plist. every works and benchmarks great, it's been running hard for a while now with no kp's or anything.

 

the only problem i have is that i can't boot 64 bit due to the nforceata kext. does anyone know when a 64 bit version will be available and if one is where to get it? thanks.

 

edit: i tried the 64 bit applenforceata a couple pages back and it wont load x64, only in x86. also i am having the same USB issue as above. booting the system with a usb 1.0 device attached is causing the same error message. if i unplug any usb 1.0 devices (mouse) i get no error and full 480mbps. any way to fix that permanently without having to unplug?

 

Have you tried AnV's latest AppleNForceATA kext......see BREAKING NEWS Latest in post #1 in this thread........?

 

I have not got an immediate answer for your USB issue........it could be a BIOS USB setting / DSDT / IOUSBFamily.kext issue.......but see here on solving USB issues for Leopard......when you ran/run OS X Leopard on your MOBO did/do you have the same USB issue or not.....?

Which AppleNForceATA kext are people using where SATA DVDRW read/burn is working?

 

Recently picked up an Optiarc 7240S SATA DVDRW but unable to get it working with an Nforce 680i and 10.6.2. A Pioneer PATA DVDRW reads/burns, but the Optiarc SATA DVDRW does not read nor burn.

 

I've tried AnV's AppleNForceATA.kext and wasn't able to boot at all -- was stuck at "waiting for root device".

I've tried a few versions of AppleNForceATA.kext but none would work.

 

I've tried setting the DVDRW in a SATA port before and after the two HDDs. Unsure if it makes a difference, but current SATA ports setup is:

SATA 0 = DVDRW 0

SATA 1 = HDD 0

SATA 2 = HDD 1

I tried MeDevil's AppleNForceATA_Test kext and was able to read (very cool) but not able to burn, using a SATA DVDRW. I wonder what it takes to get SATA DVDRW's to read AND burn.

Hello verdant i an new to installing snow leopard i had leopard installed before but not any more can i as you how can i generate that DSDT.aml from windows or do i need a installation of leopard thank you again for your work

 

You can try using koalala's DSDT patcher in Windows or use fassl's DSDT Patcher in OS X.........because Leopard is helpful when installing SL, I would recommend installing Leopard on a small volume......

Everything is still running SMOOTHLY! Only thing that I'm noticing is Quicktime X and iTunes make the mouse a little choppy at times...kinda like when people updated to Quicktime 7.5.5 in Leopard...has anyone come across something like that? I hope it's not my GPU that's just one of those problem GPUs!

Disable AppleUpstreamUserClient.kext by renaming it as for Leopard.........

 

cd /System/Library/Extensions/

Asus P5N-e SLi ( nForce 650i / MCP51 )

Nvidia GeForce 9600 GSO ( (G92) 384MB )

3GB DDR2-667 ( 3 x 1GB DDR2-PC2-5300 )

Maxtor IDE Harddisk ( 160GB ATA133-7200RPM )

 

I'm running Snow Leopard 10.6.2 using the following configuration:

 

EFI Partition (disk0s2, 200MB, HFS+):

- Containing Chameleon 2 RC3 and PC EFI 10.5 Bootfile.

- com.apple.Boot.plist, smbios.plist and dsdt.aml -files.

- Extra folder containing required kext files and useful utilities.

 

SnowHDD Partition (disk0s3, 159,4GB, HFS+ Journaled):

- Containing a clean install of Snow Leopard updated to 10.6.2

- The installation is 100% unchanged.

- Installed using my Retail DVD (i was able to boot the retail DVD because of the EFI partition)

 

I think i can call it a success, the following devices are working:

 

Sata controller (Jmicron) using AppleNForceATA.kext

Realtek RTL8139 (PCI) using AppleRTL8129Ethernet.kext and IONetworingFamily.kext

Nvidia GeForce 9600 GSO using EFI String / EFI Studio

 

Onboard LAN is disabled. Other devices which i need, are working out of the box.

FireWire is disabled because i don't use it.

Other Extensions not mentioned above are:

 

- AppleACPIPS2Nub.kext

- fakesmc.kext

- OpenHaltRestart.kext

- PlatformUUID.kext ( not sure if it's there for a reason, somebody suggested me to use it )

- VoodooPS2Controller.kext

 

 

Questions and tips are welcome, please tell me what you think of my setup/installation method.

Congratulations on your success.......I am not aware of many who have tried and/or use the "hidden" EFI Partition (disk0s2, 200MB, HFS+) method for booting.......

 

BTW is your DVDRW a SATA or PATA (IDE) drive.....? If a SATA DVDRW, can you read and burn discs in OS X using it......?

 

What about sleeping/waking from sleep......?

 

If it works 100% for you, did you have to patch your DSDT.aml file (AND how.....? ) to get sleep working?

 

A post from you on DSDT patching to enable sleeping/waking with Snow Leopard would benefit a great many readers of this thread......both in enabling sleeping/waking AND in saving time on figuring out what generic mods are required for each MOBO-specific DSDT.aml file.....

 

I ask because a common problem with nForce chipset MOBOs and Snow Leopard (and even Leopard post-10.5.6) is that the PC will go to sleep and the display will blackout but the fans will continue to run.......and on waking, HDD activity will be heard but the display blackout remains.....

Sleep is not working, it did in 10.5.4 (kalyway) .... i never use Sleep but maybe i could figure some things out for people who do want to use sleep on theire nForce board.

Never burned a DVD using OSX to be hounest i'll try soon. reading SATA DVDRW is OK , same as IDE DVDROM.

I think this is the best 'partition the bootloader to.. this way i'm able to boot my Retail DVD without any USB Flash disks or whatever to make a clean and fresh OSX Install ;)

By booting into Chameleons GUI on the EFI partition i can boot the Retail DVD using rd=<pathto-retaildvd> ...

This is not working for me. I don't suppose someone can post their fixed aml or dsl that they use (or point me to an existing link for one) with HDEF fixes in place that i can look at, preferably from a i680 based EVGA or similar board. w 885 audio etc. I would like to compare and find out what i am missing/doing wrong. I've poked through the boards and not found anything. I don't have a AZAL in my dsdt. I'm not sure if i'm overlooking the actual audio device or it is simply not there in the first place.

Did you read post #2 and remember to insert the DTGP method patch between Name (OSFL, 0x01) and Method (STRC, 2, NotSerialized), as well as inserting the _DSM patch after Device (HDEF).....?

 

BTW the device may be named Device (AZAD) as in my 650i DSDT.......and while this DSDT patching from THe KiNG should work for all audio codecs, you will still need a pseudo-kext (i.e. legacy kext or plist kext) for the ALC885 chipset.......

 

Out of interest, have you tried VoodooHDA for SL......it may work for you......? Anyhow, if and when I get some free time tomorrow, I will look at your DSDT file...... :thumbsup_anim:

You cannot just cut and paste DSDT code from post in this forum into your DSDT because it

adds hidden characters (0x0d) that will stop the DSDT from being compiled successfully.......you need to modify your own DSDT file by manually typing entries......

I'm very new to hackintosh and am now suffering from information overload. I'd like to install snow leopard, but I don't want to risk my current OS, windows 7, because I only have 1 computer.

 

My computer(it's old):

EVGA 750i w/q6600

nvidia geforce gtx 260

sata hard drive

sata dvd drive

usb wirelss mouse/keyboard

4gig ddr2

 

1. What would be the simplest, low risk way for me to install snow leopard?

 

2. I would like to dual boot, what is the best way? (I've heard that chameleon can do this)

 

Any help from this point is always helpful.

1. Simplest, low risk way is a separate internal HDD for OS X alone is ideal but failing that an external USB or eSATA HDD.......

 

2. Chameleon bootloader on OS X HDD(s)......and EasyBCD 2.0 Beta on Windows 7......best of both world then.....

 

BUT you will be better off getting a PATA (IDE) DVDRW drive if you need/want to burn discs using OS X.......and with 4GB RAM use slashack's AppleNForceATA.kext.......and use graphics string to sort out video for your 260 GTX......see here, especially post #33..........

I found that out fairly early on; i've been doing all my editing in BBEdit and/or nano (w/ no copypasta) to prevent the addition of the extra unicode or ascii characters that the compiler didn't like. And no, the force compile didn't work.

 

I'm going to build a dsdt using a linux distro and compare it with my one made from dsdt patcher later this evening;I shall see if that yields any light etc.

 

On a indirect note : I was at one point in time having firewire drop out when transfering files; I was using a older ATA kext (slash i think) at the time and upgrading to the more current one (which verdant has in his guide at the moment) has made my firewire problem free. (the AppleNForceATA 1.0.4 by MeDevil). Not that it is obviously related but that is the result from the swapping of the drivers.

I would set up 2 OS X volumes (first as Main and 2nd as Backup.....so that you always have a working OS X system to fix the other....) of equal size, of say at least 40GB.....it all depends on how much space you wish to use for OS X and whether or not you set up a separate Archive volume for all your documents, music and video files etc.

 

Install Chameleon on each OS X volume and EasyBCD on the Windows volume......this way you can boot into OS X when booting Windows HDD and boot into Windows when booting OS X HDD......

 

I suggest you do as follows:

 

1. Use a Leopard OS X Install DVD distro (see my Series 7 nForce Leopard thread and my blog for Leopard install guides) to set up the two OS X volumes and install Leopard onto the 2nd OS X volume

 

2. Assuming you

 

[a] can boot into a working Leopard system on the PC you want to install Snow Leopard onto and

 

that your MOBO BIOS allows booting from bootable USB flash drives, just follow in order, the following stages from my Snow Leopard Guide:

 

1. PART B. Generating and modifying the DSDT.aml file specifically for your MOBO:

 

2. PART C. Making a bootable GPT partition USB flash drive OS X 10.6 Installer:

 

3. PART E. Installing OS X to your target HDD volume partitioned/formatted as MBR/HFS+

as I assume your extra internal sata drive is MBR partitioned.......

 

Once SL is working 100% on the 1st OS X volume, you can then clone it onto the 2nd OS X volume overwriting the Leopard system........I use Carbon Copy Cloner for cloning......and install Chameleon again on the 2nd OS X volume......

I would set up 2 OS X volumes (first as Main and 2nd as Backup.....so that you always have a working OS X system to fix the other....) of equal size, of say at least 40GB.....it all depends on how much space you wish to use for OS X and whether or not you set up a separate Archive volume for all your documents, music and video files etc.

 

Install Chameleon on each OS X volume and EasyBCD on the Windows volume......this way you can boot into OS X when booting Windows HDD and boot into Windows when booting OS X HDD......

 

I suggest you do as follows:

 

1. Use a Leopard OS X Install DVD distro (see my Series 7 nForce Leopard thread and my blog for Leopard install guides) to set up the two OS X volumes and install Leopard onto the 2nd OS X volume

 

2. Assuming you

 

[a] can boot into a working Leopard system on the PC you want to install Snow Leopard onto and

 

that your MOBO BIOS allows booting from bootable USB flash drives, just follow in order, the following stages from my Snow Leopard Guide:

 

1. PART B. Generating and modifying the DSDT.aml file specifically for your MOBO:

 

2. PART C. Making a bootable GPT partition USB flash drive OS X 10.6 Installer:

 

3. PART E. Installing OS X to your target HDD volume partitioned/formatted as MBR/HFS+

as I assume your extra internal sata drive is MBR partitioned.......

 

Once SL is working 100% on the 1st OS X volume, you can then clone it onto the 2nd OS X volume overwriting the Leopard system........I use Carbon Copy Cloner for cloning......and install Chameleon again on the 2nd OS X volume......

 

 

Oh so you need to install leopard first and then upgrade to SL. I thought you'd just obtain an install DVD from Kalyway or something and just install it straight into your PC.

 

How about the on board LAN on my 750i, does it work? I saw on some guides saying you should just buy a seperate NIC card, but it was a while back. I don't know if they found kext's for this yet or not.

 

I have to ask this - When I've finished installing OSX and it tells me to reboot, will it override my windows 7 MBR? So what I'm trying to say is will I no longer be able to boot into windows? It shouldn't, right, because I would have OSX on a totally different hard drive. I asked that because I had Ubuntu and Windows on 1 machine a long time ago, and it was hell to setup dual boot.

I have figured out my audio issue with the EVGA i680 after dealing with a number of oddities. My original DSDT has some weird corruption or something wrong syntactically when i compile/recompiled, and i had better results with a fresh one.

 

My audio device was showing up as Device (AZA) , not AZAL or AZAD.

 

there was a reference to it in a place that i didn't see mentioned elsewhere at "Notify (\_SB.PCI0.AZA, 0x02)" that i also changed + verdants dsdt modifications.

 

DSDT compiled with no errors or warnings.

 

Audio now functional with LegacyHDA + DSDT :)

Just proves how MOBO-specific DSDT files are! Glad you got Audio sorted by replacing all instances of AZA with HDEF plus the mods in post #2......... :( What about sleep/waking......does that work for you?

There is a AppleNForceATA.kext containing SL OS X Install DVD distro by Hazard but in order for it to fit on a single-layer DVD, it is a "stripped-down" installation like all OS X distros....

 

BUT my guide is for using your SL Retail OS X Install DVD via my nForceBoot132 DVD, or its image via a USB flash drive.......which gives you the full Retail OS X installation......with all non-Apple kexts being in the /Extra/Extensions directory [with symbolic links to /System/Library/Extensions/ where necessary] via Chameleon bootloader, leaving the freshly installed /System/Library/Extensions directory untouched.......

 

Your 750i on-board LAN can use eno's nForceLAN kext, or a separate PCI NIC Gigabit Ethernet card such as the Netgear GA311 with a Realtek 8169S chipset.......

 

You should have no problems booting into Windows because:

 

1. It is on a separate HDD volume so you can boot that HDD directly from the BIOS boot menu via F8 or F12 depending on your BIOS/MOBO....

 

2. You can install EasyBCD 2.0 Beta in Windows 7 before you install OS X......

 

3. You will be installing Chameleon 2.0 RC3 or RC4 bootloader on the OS X HDD, which you too can boot that HDD directly from the BIOS boot menu via F8 or F12 depending on your BIOS/MOBO....
